  • Suicide Squad goes free less than a year after launch in January 2025’s PS Plus games

Suicide Squad goes free less than a year after launch in January 2025’s PS Plus games

It’s a new year, but more importantly it’s a new month, which means that Sony is ready to give a new stack of games to PS Plus subscribers. Among the January 2025 PS Plus games is the excellent The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered, both of which are excellent additions to the service. Also, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is there.

All of January’s PS Plus games will be available to subscribers from January 7, 2024 until February 3, 2024, regardless of their subscription tier.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was first released on February 2, 2024 as a co-op action-adventure game with live service elements. It released to very middling reviews, averaging 60/100 on review score aggregator Metacritic, and while it did get some post-launch DLC, including new playable characters, it didn’t do much to help rescue the title and support for it will be ending this month.

Our own review for Suicide Squad wasn’t particularly glowing, either, with GLHF’s Kirk McKeand giving the game a 5/10 and blaming the live service elements for its downfall:

Those who are looking for a great story from some of the best storytellers in the business will be left disappointed by how hamstrung it is by its live service trappings, and those who want to shoot numbers out of things will wonder where the meaty endgame content like raids are. On the one hand, some of this stuff can be fixed with regular updates, but on the other, that’s another studio we’ve lost to “player engagement” metrics.

Still, free with PS Plus is a pretty good price for a game you otherwise might not have picked up.

On a more positive note, The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe is a fantastic pickup, especially if you’ve never played it before. It’s an “expanded re-imagining” of the original 2013 narrative puzzle game, with heaps of new additions, new choices, and new secrets, as well as a host of visual and accessibility upgrades. It’s a fantastic game with an ending that makes absolutely sense — but we won’t spoil that particular ending just yet.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered is pretty good too, but needs much less explanation. It’s a remaster for Need for Speed Hot Pursuit – the 2010 game, not the 1998 game – that includes all the DLC, cross-platform multiplayer, and more. If you like racing games, you’d be hard pressed to go past this one.

In the meantime, you have a few more days to pick up last month’s PS Plus games — It Takes Two, Aliens: Dark Descent, and Temtem will be available on PS Plus until January 6, 2025.

Attention all PS Plus subscribers! Exciting news for all fans of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League – the highly anticipated game has been announced as one of the free games for January 2025!

That’s right, less than a year after its initial launch, Suicide Squad is now available to download for free for all PS Plus members. This action-packed game, developed by Rocksteady Studios, follows the infamous Suicide Squad as they take on the formidable Justice League in an epic showdown.

With stunning graphics, immersive gameplay, and a gripping storyline, Suicide Squad has received rave reviews from players and critics alike. And now, you have the chance to experience it for yourself without spending a dime.

So, if you haven’t already, make sure to download Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and join the squad in their mission to take down the world’s greatest heroes. Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to play one of the hottest games of 2024 for free in January 2025!

  • SpaceX set to hold final launch on New Year’s Eve after delay

SpaceX set to hold final launch on New Year’s Eve after delay

Dec. 30 (UPI) — In what is expected to be SpaceX’s final launch in a record-breaking 2024, the company announced it had delayed its newest deployment of Starlink satellites to New Year’s Eve.

The launch, which was slated for early Monday, was scrubbed and rescheduled for Tuesday at 12:34 a.m. EST from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. SpaceX said the launch window would be open until 1:28 a.m.

SpaceX did not give a reason for the delay in its note on its website.

“This is the 16th flight for the first stage booster supporting this mission, which previously launched Crew-6, BlueBird-1, USSF-124, mPOWER-B, and 11 Starlink missions,” SpaceX said.

If the launch goes off as planned, it will be SpaceX’s 134th orbital launch of the year, shattering its old record of 96 sets last year, a nearly 40% increase.

With its breakneck schedule, SpaceX has only run into a few hiccups. On July 12, the upper stage of a Falcon 9 record launched from the Vanderberg Space Force Base failed to deploy 21 Starlink satellites losing all 20 onboard.

Tuesday’s launch is expected to put 21 new satellites into orbit, 13 with direct-to-cell capability. It would be SpaceX’s third launch in three days, following a Starlink launch at Vanderberg and the four-satellite deployment for Astranis at Cape Canaveral.

After several delays, SpaceX is finally set to hold its final launch of the year on New Year’s Eve. The launch, which was originally scheduled for earlier in the month, was postponed multiple times due to technical issues and unfavorable weather conditions.

The rocket, a Falcon 9, will be carrying a payload of satellites into orbit for a commercial client. The launch is expected to take place in the early evening, providing a spectacular sight for those in the surrounding area.

SpaceX has had a busy year, with numerous successful launches and milestones achieved. This final launch of the year is sure to cap off 2021 with a bang.

Stay tuned for updates on the launch and be sure to tune in on New Year’s Eve to witness the event live. Here’s to a successful launch and a bright future for SpaceX in 2022! #SpaceX #NewYearsEveLaunch #Falcon9

Updated Dec. 30 at 4:42 p.m. EST (2142 UTC): SpaceX adjusted the T-0 liftoff time.

SpaceX is preparing to end its orbital launch year in the same way it began, by launching a batch of Starlink V2 Mini satellites including 13 featuring direct to cell phone capabilities.

The Starlink 12-6 mission will launch onboard the company’s 132nd and final Falcon 9 flight of 2024. Liftoff from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center is set for 12:39 a.m. EST (0539 UTC) on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Launch was original scheduled for 1:02 a.m. EST on Monday, Dec. 30, but appeared to slip to the end of the window because launch preparations were running behind schedule. As of 6:25 p.m. EST on Sunday, the rocket had not rolled out of its hangar.

Spaceflight Now will have live coverage beginning about an hour prior to liftoff.

On Dec. 28, the 45th Weather Squadron issued a forecast for the mission, suggesting a 60 percent chance of favorable weather at liftoff. Meteorologists cited cumulus clouds and anvil clouds as possible constraints to launch.

“The main weather feature this weekend is a cold front expected to reach down into the Florida peninsula on Sunday, passing the Spaceport early in the morning on Monday. Ahead of the front, we can expect scattered showers with a chance for some isolated storms,” launch weather officers wrote. “Most model solutions have the showers moving offshore just prior to the opening of the window, and a weak secondary line is expected to make its way through after the close of the window.

“Thus, for the primary launch attempt, concerns will be for lingering storm and anvil activity, especially near the beginning of the window.”

The Falcon 9 first stage booster for this mission, B1078 in the SpaceX fleet, will launch for a 16th time. Its previous missions included Crew-6, USSF-124 and 11 Starlink missions.

A little more than eight minutes after liftoff, B1078 will target a landing on the SpaceX droneship, ‘Just Read the Instructions.’ If successful, it will mark the 104th booster landing on JRTI and the 390th booster landing to date.

    Another record year

With a successful mission, SpaceX will close out another record-breaking year for its Falcon family of rockets. It increased its launches year-over-year by nearly 40 percent ending 2024 with 134 orbital launches compared to 2023’s 96.

Here’s a breakdown of the year by quarter:

    • Q1 – 31
    • Q2 – 36 (one Falcon Heavy)
    • Q3 – 27
    • Q4 – 40 (one Falcon Heavy)

SpaceX faced a few stints during the year where the Falcon fleet was grounded due to anomalies that occurred in flight. Most notably was an upper stage failure on the Starlink 9-3 mission, which launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base on July 12 and resulted in the loss of the 20 Starlink satellites on board.

A notable amount of ice builds up around the Merlin Vacuum engine on the Falcon 9’s upper stage during the Starlink 9-3 mission. Image: SpaceX

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grounded the fleet while SpaceX conducted a mishap investigation. The company was cleared to resume launches on July 25 while the investigation remained open. Its first launch following that happened on July 27.

The following month, a failed booster landing on the droneship, ‘A Shortfall of Gravitas,’ resulted in another fleet grounding, though this was cleared by the FAA within a few days.

Finally, following successful deployment of the Crew Dragon spacecraft on the Crew-9 mission on Sept. 28, there was another upper stage issue which caused a mistiming of the deorbit burn. A third mishap investigation was opened, but SpaceX was allowed to launch the Hera mission for the European Space Agency on Oct. 7 because the mission didn’t require a deorbit burn.

The FAA cleared a return to flight for SpaceX on Oct. 11.

The company is aiming to further ramp up its launch pace in 2025 while introducing new customers and more astronaut missions. SpaceX is poised to launch at least two commercial astronaut missions (Fram-2 and Ax-4) and two crew rotation missions to the International Space Station for NASA and its partners (Crew-10 and Crew-11).

There may also be another private astronaut mission before the end of the year, though that hasn’t been announced yet by NASA. Vast is vying fly a commercial crew to the ISS as it works towards achieving its own commercial space station.

Among its many customers in 2025, SpaceX is also poised to launch three batches of Project Kuiper satellites on behalf of Amazon. The online retail giant said in a December 2023 blog post that launches onboard Falcon 9 would take place beginning in mid-2025.

However, that post also noted that it intended to begin deployment of its satellite fleet in “the first half of 2024” and would “have enough satellites deployed to begin early customer pilots in the second half of 2024.” Amazon also said in late 2024 that its first operational batch of Project Kuiper satellites will launch on a United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket in the first quarter of calendar year 2025.

SpaceX Set to Launch 21 Starlink Satellites on Falcon 9 Rocket from Kennedy Space Center

In their latest mission, SpaceX is gearing up to launch 21 Starlink satellites into orbit on a Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The launch is scheduled for [insert date and time here] and will mark another milestone for the company’s ambitious Starlink project.

The Starlink project aims to provide high-speed internet access to underserved and remote areas around the world using a constellation of small satellites in low Earth orbit. With this upcoming launch, SpaceX will further expand their Starlink network and bring internet connectivity to more people.

The Falcon 9 rocket, known for its reliability and reusability, will once again demonstrate its capabilities as it propels the Starlink satellites into space. After liftoff, the rocket’s first stage will attempt a landing on a drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean, showcasing SpaceX’s commitment to sustainable space exploration.

Stay tuned for updates on the launch and the deployment of the Starlink satellites as SpaceX continues to revolutionize the way we connect to the world. Don’t miss this exciting event as SpaceX pushes the boundaries of space technology once again.

The leak suggests that Asus may introduce a new “Astral” sub-series of GPUs under its high-end ROG brand. In addition, two retailers, Intcomex and El Changarro, accidentally put up listings for the Asus ROG Astral RTX 5080 ahead of launch.

Asus categorizes its products into three distinct lineups: Prime, TUF, and ROG, ranked from most budget-friendly to most premium. The leaker mentioned three GPUs across Asus’ three product families: the RTX 5080 from Nvidia, the RX 9070 XT, and the RX 9070 from AMD. For the uninitiated, the RX 9070 XT is renamed RX 8800 XT since AMD’s RDNA 4 family will allegedly be rebranded RX 9000.

Exciting news for all you tech enthusiasts out there! The highly anticipated Nvidia RTX 5080 and AMD RX 9070 GPUs have been listed ahead of their official launch, and rumors suggest that Asus is gearing up to release a new “Astral” GPU lineup.

With the next generation of graphics cards on the horizon, gamers and content creators alike are eagerly anticipating the performance improvements and cutting-edge features that these new GPUs are expected to bring. The Nvidia RTX 5080 is rumored to offer even more powerful ray tracing capabilities and faster processing speeds, while the AMD RX 9070 is said to deliver exceptional performance for high-end gaming and multimedia tasks.

Asus, known for its top-notch hardware and innovative designs, is reportedly working on a new GPU lineup called “Astral” that will feature these latest Nvidia and AMD GPUs. With Asus’s reputation for high-quality products and attention to detail, we can expect nothing but the best from their upcoming releases.
