Luka Dončić isn’t the only one leaving the Dallas Mavericks.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Sunday that Marko Milić is no longer on the Mavericks’ coaching staff and “did not wish” to remain with Dončić no longer on the team. Milić was a notable name as the first Slovenian to play in the NBA, but his time with Dallas is over.
The connection with Dončić was obvious, as the five-time All-Star is also from Slovenia.
Milić spent seven years on the coaching staff of the Basketball Federation of Slovenia before the Mavericks hired him before the 2022-23 campaign. He also played professionally for 21 seasons from 1994 to 2015 with stops in seven different countries (Slovenia, Turkey, Spain, Italy, France, Iran and Kuwait).
He came to the NBA as a second-round pick in the 1997 NBA draft and appeared in 44 games across two different seasons for the Phoenix suns.
Milić was never more than a secondary scorer and averaged 2.5 points and 0.7 rebounds per game while shooting 56 percent from the field.
As for the Mavericks, this is more fallout from a shocking trade.
Dončić appeared well on his way to becoming a franchise legend with a Rookie of the Year, five First-Team All-Pro selections, a scoring title, five All-Star Game nods, an NBA Finals appearance and a Western Conference Finals MVP on his resume through just seven seasons.
Yet they moved him to the Los Angeles Lakers in a trade that landed them 31-year-old Anthony Davis.
While Davis is an excellent player himself, it was still stunning to see Dallas move on from the 25-year-old face of its franchise.
Marko Milić, an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks, has reportedly left the team following the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Milić, who joined the Mavericks’ coaching staff in 2018, was known for his strong relationship with Dončić and played a key role in his development as a young star in the NBA. However, with Dončić now heading to the Lakers in exchange for a package of players and draft picks, Milić has decided to part ways with the Mavericks.
The news of Milić’s departure comes as a surprise to many in the basketball world, as he was highly regarded for his coaching acumen and ability to connect with players. It remains to be seen where Milić will land next, but his departure is sure to have an impact on the Mavericks’ coaching staff going forward.
In the meantime, the Mavericks will have to regroup and adjust to life without both Dončić and Milić as they look to move forward and compete in the highly competitive Western Conference.

Tennessee special teams coordinator/outside linebackers coach Mike Ekeler is leaving for Nebraska after four seasons on Josh Heupel’s staff, a source close to the situation told Knox News on Monday. The source requested anonymity because Ekeler has not indicated his plans publicly.
Ekeler, who is from David City, Nebraska, coached for the Cornhuskers in 2008-10.
He will be Nebraska’s special teams coordinator and replace Ed Foley, who was not retained after the 2024 season.
Ekeler has been one of the best special teams coordinators in college football.
In 2024, Tennessee led the SEC in punt return average for the third time in Ekeler’s four seasons. The Vols gained 1,298 punt return yards and allowed only 128 punt return yards during his tenure.
Under Ekeler’s watch, Boo Carter was also an SEC All-Freshman performer as a punt returner, and Josh Turbyville was an All-SEC third-team selection as a kickoff specialist.
Max Gilbert made 20 of 26 field goals in his first season as the primary placekicker. Punter Jackson Ross averaged a career-high 43.9 yards per punt.
Here are Josh Heupel assistants who left Tennessee
Heupel has enjoyed relative stability on his coaching staff. Ekeler is only the fifth assistant that Heupel has lost in four seasons at Tennessee, and none were fired.
After the 2021 season, UT wide receivers coach Kodi Burns left for the same position with the New Orleans Saints.
After the 2022 season, UT offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Alex Golesh left to become the head coach at South Florida. In December, he hired Burns as his new co-offensive coordinator and assistant head coach at USF.
After the 2023 season, UT running backs coach Jerry Mack took the same position with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is now the head coach at Kennesaw State.
Also after the 2023 season, linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary left to become Michigan’s defensive run game coordinator and linebackers coach.
After just one season with the Tennessee Volunteers football team, Mike Ekeler has decided to leave and join the coaching staff at his alma mater, the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Ekeler, who served as the special teams coordinator and inside linebackers coach for the Volunteers, is set to take on a similar role with the Cornhuskers. This move marks a homecoming for Ekeler, who played linebacker for Nebraska from 1991 to 1994.
During his time with Tennessee, Ekeler made a significant impact on the team, helping to improve their special teams unit and mentoring the inside linebackers. His departure is sure to be felt by the Vols, but Nebraska fans are excited to welcome back one of their own.
As Ekeler embarks on this new chapter in his coaching career, we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors with the Cornhuskers.
After more than two decades of delivering the news, another Jacksonville TV anchor is stepping away from the anchor desk.
Dawn Lopez, who co-anchors Action News Jax This Morning and Action News Jax at Noon, is leaving the news organization.
Seated next to her longtime co-anchor Phil Amato, Lopez made the announcement on-air Thursday morning, her final day at Action News Jax, which broadcasts its newscasts on CBS affiliate WJAX-TV 47 and FOX affiliate WFOX-TV 30
“I’m gonna miss you all,” Lopez told viewers. “But I keep saying ‘It’s just new chapters, it’s not goodbye.’ “
“Thank you, Dawn,” Amato said, celebrating Lopez’s work at the station and in the community as well as their friendship.
“For more than 25 years, this anchor desk has been Dawn’s place to connect with you and tell your stories,” Amato said in a produced video. “I had the honor sit next to her every morning, so I got a front-row seat to see what a gift she truly is. To watch her bring joy to those around her. To see her serve her community with so much passion … So as we send off my good friend, Dawn Lopez, I think I speak for the whole city of Jacksonville when I say ‘Thank you, Dawn.’ “
Action News anchor John Bachman left station in July 2024
“Tonight is my last night with Action News Jax. I hate these things. After 10 years [at Action News] and 27 years in TV news, it is time for a change,” said Bachman, who had anchored the station’s marquee newscasts at 5, 6 and 11 p.m. on WJAX and at 6:30 and 10 p.m. on WFOX.
After leaving the station, Bachman and a partner launched a communications company in the area.
News4Jax anchor Tom Wills retires after 49 years at WJXT
Bachman’s departure was the second notable TV anchor departure of 2024.
Lopez, a Jacksonville native and University of North Florida graduate, had anchored the morning and noon newscasts at Action News since then-WTEV TV-47 became Jacksonville’s CBS affiliate in July 2002 after WJXT TV-4 split from CBS after 53 years.
A fixture on morning TV for a quarter century, Lopez was one of the longest-tenured on-air personalities at Action News. For the station’s viewers, Lopez was a steady presence in daytime as high-profile anchors have come and gone at Action News’ evening broadcasts, including Bachman in July 2024 and the 2014 departures of Mark Spain, Paige Kelton and Tera Barz. (Kelton remained at the station in other roles until March 2021.) Morning anchors Lynnsey Gardner and Mike Barz also left in 2014.
Before joining Action News, Lopez worked for affiliates in Columbus, Georgia, and High Point, North Carolina, according to a profile on actionnewsjax.com.
“What a privilege, what an honor,” Lopez told viewers Thursday morning. “… I thank you for your support.”
After more than two decades at the anchor desk, Dawn Lopez is bidding farewell to Action News Jax. Lopez, who has been a staple in the Jacksonville news community, announced her departure from the station earlier this week.
During her time at Action News Jax, Lopez has covered a wide range of stories, from breaking news to in-depth investigations. She has earned the trust and respect of viewers and colleagues alike, thanks to her professionalism and dedication to delivering accurate and informative news.
Lopez’s departure marks the end of an era for Action News Jax, but her legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts and minds of those who have watched her over the years. As she embarks on a new chapter in her career, we wish her all the best in her future endeavors. Thank you, Dawn Lopez, for your years of service and commitment to journalism.

Troy Police give update after medical center explosion
Police and fire officials in Troy said a 5-year-old died after the hyperbaric chamber he was in exploded Friday morning.
(FOX 2) – Officials in Troy confirmed a child died after an explosion at a medical center Friday morning.
Fire and police officials said the boy died after a hyperbaric chamber blew up at a center on Kirts Boulevard.
What we know:
Units from the Troy fire and police departments responded to 165 Kirts Blvd in Troy around 8 a.m. Friday morning following reports of an explosion.
A 5-year-old boy was killed after a hyperbaric chamber blew up inside the building. His mom, who was next to the chamber at the time, also suffered injuries to her arms.
The deceased was a resident of Royal Oak.
Upon arrival, fire officials dealt with a fire inside the chamber. It was contained to the room. Medical staff also at the building were not injured in the explosion.
“Shortly after 8 a.m. this morning, Troy Fire and Police Department responded to a medical facility at 165 Kirtz Boulevard for a report of a hyperbaric chamber explosion with a child still inside the chamber,” said fire Lt. Keith Young.
While the scene is still active, the facility is secure.

What we don’t know:
Police only had preliminary information and did not know what was the cause of the explosion.
It’s also unclear what the child was being treated for while in the chamber.
Officials are still working to confirm what accreditation the center had and whether it was allowed to operate a hyperbaric chamber.
What’s next:
Social workers from the Oakland Community Health Network will be available to work with emergency personnel who responded to the scene, as well as medical staff at the facility.
Because the state oversees these centers, the investigation will involve multiple jurisdictions, Young said.
What is a hyperbaric chamber?
Dig deeper:
A hyperbaric chamber is a pressurized room or container that has 100% oxygen inside.
According to the Mayo Clinic, patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy use it to treat a condition called decompression sickness, which occurs due to rapid drops in the surrounding pressure.
The goal is to get more oxygen to tissue in the body that’s been damaged by disease or injury.
In a hyperbaric chamber, the air pressure is increased two to three times higher than normal air pressure. That way, lungs can receive more oxygen, which can enhance new growth of blood vessels and boost one’s immune system.
FAYETTEVILLE, NC – AUGUST 04: Wayne Tart of Clinton, North Carolina lies in a hyperbaric chamber at Cape Fear Valley Wound Care Center August 4, 2010 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The pure-oxygen environment of a hyperbaric chamber, which was rece
Because the chamber is pressurized, it can become highly combustible.
“A hyperbaric chamber contains 100% oxygen, which is up to five times the amount of oxygen in a normal room. The presence of such a high amount of oxygen in a pressurized environment can make it extremely combustible,” Young said.
He added these kinds of explosions are extremely uncommon.
On the morning of June 15th, tragedy struck at a medical facility in Troy as a hyperbaric chamber exploded, resulting in the death of a 5-year-old child. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning the loss of a young life.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but initial reports suggest that a malfunction in the hyperbaric chamber may have been the catalyst for the tragic event. Emergency responders rushed to the scene to provide medical assistance, but unfortunately, the child could not be saved.
The medical facility has been closed while authorities conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones of the young child who lost their life in this devastating accident.
As more information becomes available, we will provide updates on this heartbreaking story. In the meantime, we urge everyone to hold their loved ones close and cherish every moment together. Life is fragile, and tragedies like this serve as a reminder of the preciousness of every moment we have with those we hold dear.

SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants’ pairing of the Rogers Twins couldn’t have gotten off to a rockier start. Taylor gave up earned runs in four of his first five appearances as Tyler’s teammate, and after a particularly rough appearance against the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 12, 2023, he tossed his glove in a dugout trash can.
From there, everything turned.
For most of the last two seasons, the lefty has given the Giants what they expected, and Tyler continues to churn out one valuable relief season after another. But on Wednesday, the Giants broke the pairing up.
Taylor and $6 million were sent to the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, with the Giants getting a relief prospect back in return. The move opens up some bullpen innings, but mostly it gives the Giants salary relief.
Taylor Rogers was due $12 million in the final season of a three-year contract that was given out by Farhan Zaidi. The question for now is whether new president of baseball operations Buster Posey plans to reinvest those savings.
Team sources said after the trade that no other move appeared imminent, and Posey told The Athletic’s Andrew Bagarly that the Giants would keep looking but “feel pretty set with the roster the way it is right now.” If this is it for the offseason, the Giants will start the year well short of where they were last season in terms of payroll.
The Giants currently are at about $217 million in luxury-tax payroll, according to Roster Resource, well below last year’s estimate of about $252 million. They do not intend to go into the tax this year, as they did last year, but they still have roughly $24 million to spend before they hit that line — if they want to.
The problem at this point is that there aren’t many players to pursue even if the Giants made a late charge. Pete Alonso and Alex Bregman remain on the market, but the latter plays the same position as Matt Chapman and Alonso would cost the Giants multiple draft picks at a time when the farm system is lacking, and he plays the same position as the only top 100 prospect — Bryce Eldridge — in the organization.
Ha-Seong Kim, an early target and a potential option at second base, signed with the Tampa Bay Rays earlier Wednesday. There still are several good veteran relievers on the market, but that’s one area where the Giants are pretty deep.
The bullpen lost some veteran depth with Wednesday’s deal, but Taylor Rogers had fallen down the pecking order under manager Bob Melvin and was pitching earlier in games than he was accustomed to. The new staff decided pretty quickly last season that Erik Miller would be the high-leverage lefty, and with Miller, Ryan Walker, Tyler Rogers, Camilo Doval and Randy Rodriguez, the Giants are pretty well-covered late in games.
Where they now are lacking is overall depth from the left side, although Joey Lucchesi will be in camp as a non-roster invitee and he can fill that second role. Other options likely will be brought in, as well.
If the Giants stand pat right now and opt to simply save the $6 million, they always could reinvest at the MLB trade deadline. That, however, would require being in contention, and after a relatively quiet offseason, there are still very valid questions about just how high the ceiling is for this group.
The San Francisco Giants made a big move this offseason by trading for left-handed reliever Taylor Rogers. This trade has significant implications for both the team’s payroll and bullpen entering the 2025 season.
With Rogers now on the roster, the Giants have added a high-quality arm to their bullpen, which was already a strength for the team. Rogers, a proven closer with a track record of success, gives the Giants added depth and versatility in their relief corps.
However, the addition of Rogers also comes with a financial cost. The Giants took on Rogers’ contract in the trade, which will impact their payroll going forward. With Rogers set to make a significant salary in 2025, the Giants will need to make corresponding moves to stay under the luxury tax threshold.
Overall, the Taylor Rogers trade leaves the Giants with a stronger bullpen but also a tighter payroll situation. It will be interesting to see how the team manages its finances and roster construction in the coming season as they look to build on their success in recent years.

WICHITA, Kansas — Figure skaters often say they are competing only against themselves.
That certainly has become the case for Ilia Malinin at the Prevagen U.S. Championships.
The reigning world champion is simply in a league by himself on the national level.
He showed that again in Saturday’s short program, winning by 19.14 points, with Andrew Torgashev second and Jimmy Ma third, 3.03 points behind Torgashev. It is a record margin for the men’s short program winner at nationals.
And Malinin also topped himself, with a score (114.08) that is more than three points higher than his previous short program best at nationals.
“I was pretty surprised about the score,” Malinin said. “I thought that performance might get 110, 109.”
Malinin makes the extraordinary look easy to a degree so that even he can underestimate its impact on others, including judges.
“You always have to see behind the scenes and how everything works at practices,” he said. “It’s not always going to be so easy looking.”
And it is almost disappointing when he does merely a quadruple flip and a quad Lutz-triple toe loop combination, as he did in this short program, opting to eschew his trademark quad Axel for a triple.
“I think there is the pressure of trying to do the quad Axel at every competition, but I always trust myself and know what’s best for me and my body,” Malinin said.
That translates to, “Why take unnecessary risk when you simply are so much better than anyone else in the field?” That means Malinin’s next barrier-breaking feat, whether a quintuple jump or quad-quad combination, will have to wait, even if fans would like it sooner.
“I think that now that I have done the quad Axel, they want to see something more, bigger and better,” he said. “For me, since the (2026) Olympics are around the corner, I just want to play it safe for myself.
“But after the Olympics, then I’ll go ham.”
(For those unfamiliar with the slang Gen Z expression, “going ham” means letting it all hang out.)

Ma, in his 11th senior nationals at age 29, has the perspective of having skated against 2022 Olympic champion Nathan Chen during his six years of national dominance and now seeing Malinin assert his supremacy as he heads for a third straight title. The free skate final is Sunday (4 p.m. ET, NBC and Peacock).
“I don’t even think of it as a competition anymore because that’s not something I can achieve,” Ma said. “It’s an honor just to be able to skate and be friends with two people who can be considered GOATs in their own way. They inspire me to push my old body to its limits.”
Malinin, who turned 20 in December, is the first to land a quad Axel in competition, first to land six quadruple jumps in a free skate, first to try all six types of quad in a free skate. He is sui generis, which creates a singular set of expectations.
“It’s a little bit scary that I kind of have to push myself and see where I can take the sport as (compared to) a few years ago, where I’d be following all these other skaters — Nathan Chen, Yuzuru Hanyu, Shoma Uno,” Malinin said on a recent media call.
Because his array of quads gives Malinin a sizeable advantage in base value scores, especially in a free skate, it seems that error-free performances like Saturday’s make him unbeatable. He has won seven straight competitions.
“I haven’t really thought about that,” Malinin said. “I still feel I am not at the best I can be. I have miles ahead.”
Floppy-haired, baby-faced and willowy, quick to smile and play with an audience, unimposing physically, Malinin’s athletic flights of fancy seem like magic. He can gather to full speed instantly, and the tightness of his rotation on jumps makes it look as if his body is a single, linear element.
He has realized that he can’t be what others might prefer — a skater with balletic skills. He chooses contemporary music and movements that reflect power more than delicacy.
“You could call it tricks or trying to defy gravity or create this whole new form of entertainment for people watching the sport,” he said.
He has added eye-catching fillips like the “raspberry twist,” a butterfly jump with a twist that involves several changes of edge. Saturday, Malinin’s execution of it was a sweet delight, with a takeoff so powerful he seemed to go airborne.
That was one reason why Malinin felt as if he had performed to “my maximum capability.” After all, he is about taking the sport to new heights.
Philip Hersh, who has covered figure skating at the last 12 Winter Olympics, is a special contributor to NBCSports.com.
Ilia Malinin plans to do a backflip at Skate America after figure skating officials made it legal for the first time in nearly 50 years.
Ilia Malinin, the rising star in the figure skating world, has once again left audiences and fellow skaters in awe with his latest performance. Known for his technical precision and artistic flair, Malinin has continually pushed the boundaries of what is possible on the ice.
His latest routine showcased a combination of breathtaking jumps, seamless spins, and intricate footwork that had spectators on the edge of their seats. With each graceful movement, Malinin seemed to defy gravity and captivate the audience with his mesmerizing performance.
As the figure skating world eagerly awaits his next barrier-breaking feat, it is clear that Malinin is a force to be reckoned with. His dedication to his craft and unparalleled skill have solidified his place as one of the top skaters in the world.
With each performance, Malinin continues to raise the bar for what is possible in figure skating, leaving fans and fellow competitors alike in awe of his talent. We can only imagine what incredible feats he will achieve next as he continues to push the boundaries of the sport.
