  • Biden leaves TikTok ban decision to Trump administration

President Joe Biden won’t enforce a ban on the social media app TikTok that is set to take effect a day before he leaves office on Monday, a U.S. official said Thursday, leaving its fate in the hands of President-elect Donald Trump.Congress last year, in a law signed by Biden, required that TikTok’s China-based parent company ByteDance divest the company by Jan. 19, a day before the presidential inauguration. The official said the outgoing administration was leaving the implementation of the law — and the potential enforcement of the ban — to Trump. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in order to discuss internal Biden administration thinking.Trump, who once called to ban the app, has since pledged to keep it available in the U.S., though his transition team has not said how they intend to accomplish that.TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew is expected to attend Trump’s inauguration and be granted a prime seating location on the dais as the president-elect’s national security adviser signals that the incoming administration may take steps to “keep TikTok from going dark.”Incoming national security adviser Mike Waltz on Thursday told Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” that the federal law that could ban TikTok by Sunday also “allows for an extension as long as a viable deal is on the table.”The push to save TikTok, much like the move to ban it in the U.S., has crossed partisan lines. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said he spoke with Biden on Thursday to advocate for extending the deadline to ban TikTok.“It’s clear that more time is needed to find an American buyer and not disrupt the lives and livelihoods of millions of Americans, of so many influencers who have built up a good network of followers,” Schumer said Thursday on the Senate floor.Democrats had tried on Wednesday to pass legislation that would have extended the deadline, but Republican Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas blocked it. I don’t want to get ahead of our executive orders, but we’re going to create this space to put that deal in place,” he added.Separately on Wednesday, Pam Bondi, Trump’s pick for attorney general, dodged a question during a Senate hearing on whether she’d uphold a TikTok ban.Trump has reversed his position on the popular app, having tried to ban it during his first term in office over national security concerns. President Joe Biden won’t enforce a ban on the social media app TikTok that is set to take effect a day before he leaves office on Monday, a U.S. official said Thursday, leaving its fate in the hands of President-elect Donald Trump.

Congress last year, in a law signed by Biden, required that TikTok’s China-based parent company ByteDance divest the company by Jan. 19, a day before the presidential inauguration. The official said the outgoing administration was leaving the implementation of the law — and the potential enforcement of the ban — to Trump.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity in order to discuss internal Biden administration thinking.

Trump, who once called to ban the app, has since pledged to keep it available in the U.S., though his transition team has not said how they intend to accomplish that.

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew is expected to attend Trump’s inauguration and be granted a prime seating location on the dais as the president-elect’s national security adviser signals that the incoming administration may take steps to “keep TikTok from going dark.”

Incoming national security adviser Mike Waltz on Thursday told Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” that the federal law that could ban TikTok by Sunday also “allows for an extension as long as a viable deal is on the table.”

The push to save TikTok, much like the move to ban it in the U.S., has crossed partisan lines. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said he spoke with Biden on Thursday to advocate for extending the deadline to ban TikTok.

“If the Supreme Court comes out with a ruling in favor of the law, President Trump has been very clear: Number one, TikTok is a great platform that many Americans use and has been great for his campaign and getting his message out. “He’s a deal maker. I don’t want to get ahead of our executive orders, but we’re going to create this space to put that deal in place,” he added.

Separately on Wednesday, Pam Bondi, Trump’s pick for attorney general, dodged a question during a Senate hearing on whether she’d uphold a TikTok ban.

Trump has reversed his position on the popular app, having tried to ban it during his first term in office over national security concerns. He joined TikTok during his 2024 presidential campaign and his team used it to connect with younger voters, especially male voters, by pushing content that was often macho and aimed at going viral. He pledged to “save TikTok” during the campaign and has credited the platform with helping him win more youth votes.

In a surprising twist, President-elect Joe Biden has announced that he will not make a decision on the TikTok ban and will instead leave it up to the Trump administration to handle.

Many were expecting Biden to reverse the ban on the popular social media app, which has been a source of controversy and tension between the US and China. However, Biden’s decision to defer to the current administration has left many scratching their heads.

Some speculate that this move is an attempt to avoid taking a stance on a divisive issue and instead focus on more pressing matters facing the country. Others believe that Biden may be trying to maintain a sense of continuity and stability in the transition of power.

Regardless of the reasoning behind Biden’s decision, it is clear that the fate of TikTok remains uncertain. Will the Trump administration move forward with the ban, or will they reconsider in light of Biden’s hands-off approach? Only time will tell.

  • Bobby Marks predicts what happens with Phoenix Suns and Bradley Beal if Kevin Durant leaves

With no way of getting out of their current situation, the Phoenix Suns will have to ride it out with their mediocre roster.

After trading for Bradley Beal, the Phoenix Suns were expected to take the Western Conference by storm, but there was one little wrinkle in their plan.

Bradley Beal is one of two players in the league with a complete no-trade clause in his contract, so fans thought that, in the unlikely event that the Suns don’t perform well, the franchise would be stuck with an overpaid star.

As it turns out, that’s exactly what happened.

Kevin Durant #35 and Bradley Beal #3 of the Phoenix Suns look on against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first quarter at Target Center on April ...

    Where can Beal be traded?

Beal has complete control of the Suns’ situation. He reportedly will only play for the Miami Heat, Denver Nuggets, and Los Angeles Lakers. That eliminates pretty much any team that could conceivably add him, and even teams that could trade for him might not want to.

“People say, well, Detroit would take him,” said ESPN’s Bobby Marks..

“I don’t think so, man. Charlotte would take him? You’re not taking 57 million or 53 million unless you’re getting a lot back. That just doesn’t, that just doesn’t make sense here. So it’s a fascinating situation because it’s not going to get much better in Phoenix next year.”

The Pistons could use an established shot creator, and the Hornets are just a good financial fit, but would Beal waive his no-trade clause to go to Detroit or Charlotte? Absolutely not, so the discussion isn’t even worth having. The Lakers and Heat are the only realistic suitors, but LA would have to give up a prized player to add him, and that wouldn’t be worth it.

The Suns are in a bad situation long term

Even with the Beal dilemma, it’s hard to argue that he, Devin Booker, and Kevin Durant are not high-level players. Booker has drawn some interest on the trade market, but the Suns aren’t excited to part with him. Each one of the “Big Three” will make $53 million or more next season, and after that, Beal has a player option for $57 million. It’s hard to imagine him turning it down.

With no draft capital, no financial flexibility, and a 19-20 record on the season so far, Phoenix is in a bad place with no way out.

“We might be doing this podcast a year from now and you’d be like, what’s going on with the Suns?” predicted Marks.

“I’ll be like, Groundhog Day right there, guys are going to be older, they’re still going to have one first-round pick to trade.

“They’re still going to be in the second apron. They’re still going to pay a record high, maybe $500 million in luxury tax and penalty. And they’re going to have hard decisions to make as far as if they have to pivot off this.

“And if you pivot off it, whether it be Durant, let’s say, the likelihood is that Beal is still gonna be on your roster, right? Like that’s just the reality of it here.”

Plenty of teams have made massive moves with the hopes of finding success. The Brooklyn Nets added Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving and never made the Finals, the Sixers did the same with Harden and Joel Embiid, and the Los Angeles Clippers broke the bank for Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.

The Suns are just the latest team to mortgage their future for a bleak present.

With the uncertainty surrounding Kevin Durant’s future with the Brooklyn Nets, NBA analyst Bobby Marks has weighed in on what could potentially happen with the Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal.

Marks predicts that if Durant decides to leave Brooklyn in free agency, the Nets could look to make a big move to replace him. One option could be pursuing a trade for Bradley Beal, who has been rumored to be on the trade block.

The Suns, who have emerged as a legitimate contender in the Western Conference, could also be in the mix for Beal. Marks believes that Phoenix’s young core of Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, and Mikal Bridges could entice Beal to join forces and form a formidable trio in the desert.

While nothing is set in stone, Marks’ prediction adds another layer of intrigue to an already eventful NBA offseason. Will Bradley Beal find himself in a new home if Kevin Durant departs Brooklyn? Only time will tell.

  • Magic’s Jalen Suggs Leaves Game vs. Toronto Raptors in Second Quarter with Back Spasm

Magic’s Jalen Suggs Leaves Game vs. Toronto Raptors in Second Quarter with Back Spasm

Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs left Friday night’s game versus the Toronto Raptors in the second quarter with a non-contact injury.

With his team up 56-41 with just over three minutes to play in the first half, Suggs went for a steal and missed, falling to the floor. But instead of popping up off the court, the fourth-year pro didn’t make an attempt to get up.

Instead, he was grabbing at his lower back as he laid on his side. After a missed shot, the Magic called timeout as Suggs remained down on the court in the same position.

His Magic teammates began pouring onto the floor and surrounded him, and they were joined by a few on-looking Raptors players as well. With broadcast cameras focused in on him, Orlando teammates began lifting Suggs off the floor before it became evident that he was in too much pain to move.

A wheelchair was brought onto the floor to help the former Gonzaga product off the floor. With a towel draped over his head, Magic VP of player performance and wellness Arnie Kander wheeled him into the team’s tunnel.

Cole Anthony started the second half for the Magic instead of Suggs. Officially, the team ruled him out for the remainder of Friday’s game with back spasms.

it’s a potentially devastating development for an Orlando team already currently down its top two scorers, Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, to torn obliques and an ACL tear in Moe Wagner’s left knee ended his season less than two weeks ago.

Second-year guard Anthony Black is also unavailable Friday night due to a low back contusion – his third straight absence – and Gary Harris is currently out with a re-aggravated left hamstring strain.

Magic’s rookie guard Jalen Suggs left the game against the Toronto Raptors in the second quarter on Monday night due to a back spasm. The 20-year-old had been making an impact on the court, showcasing his skills as a versatile player on both offense and defense.

Suggs, who was the fifth overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, had been averaging 11.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game so far this season. His absence was definitely felt by the Magic as they struggled to maintain their momentum without him on the floor.

It remains to be seen how long Suggs will be out of action due to this injury, but Magic fans are hopeful for a speedy recovery for the promising young talent. Stay tuned for updates on his status as he works towards getting back on the court and helping his team secure more wins in the future.

  • Magic’s Jalen Suggs leaves game against Raptors in wheelchair after apparent back injury

TORONTO — Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs was taken off the court in a wheel chair because of an apparent back injury late in the first half Friday night against the Toronto Raptors.

Suggs stumbled playing defense without any contact and fell over clutching at his lower back. He stayed down for several minutes before being helped to his feet and into the wheelchair.

Suggs covered his face with a towel as he was wheeled off the court.

The fifth overall pick in the 2021 draft, Suggs came in averaging 16.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists for the banged-up Magic. He scored six points in 13 minutes before leaving.

Orlando was already without forward Paolo Banchero and forward Franz Wagner, with both recovering from torn right oblique injuries. They were among six Magic players not available Friday.

In a shocking turn of events, Magic’s rookie Jalen Suggs left the game against the Raptors in a wheelchair after suffering an apparent back injury. The 20-year-old guard was seen grimacing in pain after a collision with Raptors’ player Fred VanVleet.

Suggs, who has been a key player for the Magic this season, was unable to put any weight on his legs as he was helped into the wheelchair and taken off the court. The extent of his injury is still unknown, but fans are hoping for a speedy recovery for the young star.

The Magic went on to lose the game to the Raptors, but the focus remains on Suggs and his health. The team has yet to release any official statement regarding the severity of his injury, but updates are expected in the coming days.

Our thoughts are with Jalen Suggs as he recovers from this setback, and we hope to see him back on the court soon. Stay tuned for more updates on his condition.

  • Canucks’ Thatcher Demko leaves game vs. Kraken

Canucks’ Thatcher Demko leaves game vs. Kraken

Starting goaltender and 2024 Vezina Trophy runner-up Thatcher Demko left Thursday’s game against the Seattle Kraken and was replaced between the pipes by Kevin Lankinen. He was ruled out by the team prior to the third period, but did not specify his ailment.

Though it was not immediately clear when Demko was injured, he did make a sprawling save on Oliver Bjorkstrand just minutes before leaving the ice. Canucks defenceman Noah Juulsen also skated into Demko earlier, and the netminder was slow to get up off of the ice.

Demko, 29, missed the first two months of the season with a knee injury that he suffered in Game 1 of the playoffs. He made his season debut on Dec. 10 against the St. Louis Blues and has started in six games prior to Thursday, with a 3.43 goals-against average and .879 save percentage.

Sportsnet’s Dan Murphy reported during the intermission that the Canucks would be dressing an emergency backup.

Demko, the 36th overall pick by the Canucks in the 2014 NHL Draft, owns a career 2.81 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage.

In a surprising turn of events, Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko was forced to leave Saturday night’s game against the Seattle Kraken due to an undisclosed injury. Demko, who has been a key player for the Canucks this season, was replaced by backup goalie Jaroslav Halak in the second period.

The loss of Demko is a significant blow to the Canucks, who are already without several key players due to injuries and COVID-19 protocols. Demko has been playing some of the best hockey of his career this season, with a .918 save percentage and a 2.85 goals against average.

It remains to be seen how serious Demko’s injury is and how long he will be out of the lineup. In the meantime, the Canucks will have to rely on Halak to hold down the fort in goal.

Fans are hopeful that Demko’s injury is not serious and that he will be back on the ice soon. In the meantime, they will be keeping a close eye on updates from the team regarding his status.

  • Naomi Osaka’s Inspirational Comeback Leaves Ex-Pro Stunned as She Builds High Anticipation Ahead of New Season

Naomi Osaka’s Inspirational Comeback Leaves Ex-Pro Stunned as She Builds High Anticipation Ahead of New Season

You need to have the will to fight more than the other person, and I feel like I finally found that again,Naomi Osaka, who started 2025 with a powerful statement, said on Wednesday. The former World No. 1 made her return to the spotlight by reaching her first WTA Tour quarterfinal in six months, defeating Julia Grabher 7-5, 6-3 at the ASB Classic in Auckland. Osaka, who admitted to not being a confrontational person, has caught the attention of an ex-WTA pro, who was best known for her angry on-court outbursts!

Last year was no walk in the park for the four-time Grand Slam champion. Returning from maternity leave after giving birth to her daughter Shai in 2023, Osaka faced a tough road. She didn’t advance past the second round in any Grand Slam or the Paris Olympics, and a back injury in October cut her season short. Her final record for the year, 22-17, reflected her struggles. Talking about her journey in an interview before the Auckland Open, she admitted, “I think 2024 humbled me, but I also feel like I grew a lot. I worked way harder than I’ve ever worked before.”

Despite the challenges, Osaka remained determined to turn things around and her resilience has not gone unnoticed by an ex WTA pro, Coco Vandeweghe.

On January 2nd, the ‘Tennis Channel’ podcast team, including Vandeweghe, Steve Weissman, and Prakash Amritraj, analyzed the United Cup semifinals and Osaka’s performance at the ASB Classic. Steve, the show’s host, recalled what said after her United Cup match.

“I was thinking about this last year, but I’m not a really confrontational person. But when you’re on the court, it’s like you’re in a boxing match. You need to have the will to fight more than the other person and I feel like I finally found that again. So I’m just really grateful for that,” said Osaka.

Vandeweghe, praising the Japanese star’s resilience, said, “I think it is the will to fight and the will to win because that’s the difference maker of when the chips are down and your back’s against the wall, can you push? Can you find that next gear?”

She added, “Last year, Naomi was still finding herself, finding the Naomi of new because she was always banking on the Naomi of old… Now it’s a different Naomi. She’s playing with a different motivation. And I think it’s really nice to see that she still has that fire in the belly.”

That fire has defined the 4-time Grand Slam champion’s career. In 2018, she shocked the world by defeating Serena Williams 6-2, 6-4 in the US Open final to win her first Grand Slam. She went on to claim three more major titles: the 2019 Australian Open, the 2020 US Open, and the 2021 Australian Open. These victories cemented her place in history as the first Japanese player to win a Grand Slam singles title and the first woman since Serena Williams in 2015 to win back-to-back majors.

However, after her 2021 Australian Open triumph, things took a difficult turn.

Osaka began grappling with mental health challenges, even publicly expressing that winning no longer brought her joy. These struggles, coupled with injuries and time away from the sport, created a bumpy road ahead. But while the 27-year-old is ready to brave it all, she has also given herself an ultimatum.

Naomi Osaka states she won’t ‘hang around’ for a long time

Naomi Osaka has made it clear that while she will put in her all for this season, if it does not yield good results, she might just hang up her racket.

Ahead of the ABS Classic, in an interview, she hinted the possibility of stepping away from the sport if she doesn’t meet her own standards. “I don’t think I’m the type of player that would hang around,” Osaka told reporters. “I have a lot of respect for all the players on tour, but the point of my life that I’m at right now, if I’m not above a certain ranking, I don’t see myself playing for a while. I’d rather spend time with my daughter if I’m not where I think I should be and where I feel like I can be.
