Lakers Injury Report: Anthony Davis, LeBron James probable vs. Hawks

After missing Thursday’s game against the Blazers, Anthony Davis looks set to rejoin the lineup on Friday. The Lakers’ injury report ahead of their showdown with the Hawks on the second night of a back-to-back lists AD as probable with his left ankle sprain.

LeBron James, who played on Thursday and was not on the injury report, is listed as probable with left foot injury management.

Notably, Gabe Vincent is listed as out with a left oblique strain. Previously, Gabe had not been ruled out on the injury report.

Prior to Thursday’s game, head coach JJ Redick said Gabe was still considered day-to-day but was “still dealing with some pain” from their injury sustained against the Kings.

Gabe’s absence is a bit more easily absorbed with the arrival of Shake Milton, even he has been inconsistent in his minutes.

As for AD, seeing where the Lakers go with their big men depth will be interesting. While they’ve used more small ball lineups, when AD sat on Thursday, the Lakers used a healthy amount of Jaxson Hayes and Christian Koloko.

It’s maybe a bit surprising to see LeBron listed as probable, too. Against the Blazers, LeBron exerted a whole lot of energy to help the Lakers secure the win. It certainly wouldn’t have been a surprise to see him rest and AD play on Friday.

That being said, LeBron did play on both sides of the team’s last back-to-back in Utah and in Minnesota. This is an important stretch of the season for the Lakers, specifically with this being the final contest of their four-game homestand and perhaps that also played into LeBron’s availability for this one.

Either way, the Lakers are going to need both AD and LeBron and more in this game given how their last game against the Hawks played out.

The Los Angeles Lakers have provided an injury report ahead of their matchup against the Atlanta Hawks, with stars Anthony Davis and LeBron James listed as probable.

Davis has been dealing with a knee injury but is expected to suit up for the game. The Lakers will certainly need his presence on both ends of the court to secure a victory.

Meanwhile, James has been nursing an ankle injury but is also likely to play against the Hawks. His playmaking abilities and scoring touch will be crucial for the Lakers’ success.

Having both Davis and James available will be a huge boost for the Lakers as they look to continue their winning ways. Stay tuned for updates on their status leading up to game time.

Fans Theorize Drake Dissed LeBron James on ‘Fighting Irish’ Song amid Kendrick Beef | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

Superstar rapper Drake seemingly took some shots at NBA legend LeBron James in his new freestyle entitled Fighting Irish, which dropped Friday.

Multiple X users expressed their belief that Drake was alluding to LeBron in the song, including a line about them trading watches:

    Shotta @ShottaSV

“Remember we traded watches I gave you the arabic dial and you gave me the numbered edition”

Looks like Drake had some words for Lebron James on his new “Fighting Irish” freestyle pic.twitter.com/6U9yYcAGTo

If Fighting Irish is indeed about James, it is indicated in the song that he and Drake were once close before drifting apart.

Drake apparently taking aim at the Los Angeles Lakers star and one of the greatest basketball players of all time led to plenty of reaction on social media:

Perhaps removing any doubt about Fighting Irish being about LeBron is the fact that the team name for St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, which James attended prior to going No. 1 overall in the 2003 NBA draft, is the Fighting Irish.

While the exact genesis of Drake’s beef with James isn’t known for something, there is a good chance that it stems from LeBron’s position in the feud between Drake and fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar.

Lamar’s diss track about Drake entitled Not Like Us was one of the biggest songs of 2024, and he performed it multiple times at his Pop Out concert at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, back in June.

James was in attendance and seemed to be enjoying himself, while fellow NBA players DeMar DeRozan and Russell Westbrook joined Lamar on stage.

LeBron, who is in the midst of his 22nd NBA season, turned 40 on Monday, making him the first player in league history to appear in a game as both a teenager and a 40-year-old.

Fans have been buzzing with theories after Drake dropped his highly anticipated track “Fighting Irish” amid his ongoing beef with Kendrick Lamar. The song has sparked speculation that Drake may have taken a subtle jab at NBA superstar LeBron James.

In the song, Drake raps, “I’m the king in this game, no need for a throne // My reign will never end, I’m in a league of my own.” Some fans have pointed out that these lyrics could be interpreted as a diss towards LeBron, who is often referred to as “The King” in the basketball world.

While Drake has not directly mentioned LeBron in the song, some fans believe that the timing of the release and the lyrics are too coincidental to ignore. The speculation has only intensified as Drake and Kendrick’s feud continues to escalate.

Regardless of whether or not Drake intended to diss LeBron, one thing is for sure – fans are eagerly awaiting LeBron’s response, if any, to the song. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.

  • At 40, LeBron says he could play at high level 5 to 7 more years — but won’t

At 40, LeBron says he could play at high level 5 to 7 more years — but won’t

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — The gray in LeBron James’ beard was unmistakable as he addressed reporters on his 40th birthday Monday after Los Angeles Lakers practice.

“I had a decade of the 30s, so to just wake up and just be like, ‘Oh shoot, oh damn, you’re 40?’” James said, back with the team after missing Saturday’s game against the Sacramento Kings while recovering from an illness. “It’s kind of laughable, really, to know where I am, to see where I am still playing the game at a high level, still being such a young man but old in the scheme of how many years I got in this profession.”

James, who was the youngest player in league history to reach scoring milestones at 1,000 through 40,000 career points, is now just the second to play 22 seasons, tying Hall of Famer Vince Carter.

And when he faces his former team in the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday, he will become just the 32nd player to appear in an NBA game in his 40s, according to ESPN Research.

Though James admitted he has “of course” pondered retirement more than ever before, the four-time champion — fresh off a gold medal run with Team USA at the Paris Olympics, winning tournament MVP — said he could play a lot longer, should he so choose.

“To be honest, if I really wanted to, I could probably play this game at a high level probably for about another — it’s weird that I might say this — but probably about another five to seven years, if I wanted to,” James said. “But I’m not going to do that.”

James’ production this season would support that claim. He is averaging 23.5 points on 49.6% shooting, 9.0 assists and 7.9 rebounds while appearing in 28 out of the Lakers’ 31 games.

When he was approaching Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s career scoring record during the 2022-23 campaign, James told ESPN the last goal he hoped to accomplish after the scoring feat would be to share the court with his son, Bronny James.

He achieved that objective on opening night this season, closing out the second quarter of L.A.’s win over the Minnesota Timberwolves with Bronny, whom the Lakers selected with the No. 55 pick in the second round of June’s draft.

“You came in as an 18-year-old kid and now you’re sitting here as a 40-year-old, 22-year vet with a 20-year-old in the NBA, as well,” James said Monday. “So, it’s pretty cool.”

James has since told ESPN that his last remaining motivation is the chance to compete for a fifth championship.

James was asked if the Lakers, who are currently just 1½ games out of the No. 4 spot in the Western Conference, won the title, would it prompt him to keep playing with a chance to compete for another one or free him up to walk away on top?

“You ask that question, the first person I thought about was Jason Kelce,” James said, referring to the former Philadelphia Eagles center who now works as an NFL analyst for ESPN. “Earlier this year, he had a sit-down [interview] with [Eagles quarterback] Jalen Hurts talking about that same factor, the fact that [the Eagles are] extremely good this year and have you had the thought of coming back and maybe not retiring? Of course [he has]. But he’s very happy with the decision he’s made.”

    As for the Lakers?

“Right now, I think we’re a very good team,” James said. “I think we have a chance to compete with anybody in the league. Are we at a championship level? Can we win a championship right now? No, I don’t think so. But that’s good because we have so much room for improvement.

“I don’t know if that determines if I stick around longer because it doesn’t change my career in any sense or fashion.”

Though James was unsure of the Lakers’ championship chances, he was firmer in his belief that he will not play for another franchise.

“That’s the plan,” James said. “I would love for it to end here. That would be the plan. I came here to play the last stage of my career and to finish it off here. But I’m also not silly … [not] to know the business of basketball. But I think my relationship with this organization speaks for itself. And hopefully, I don’t got to go nowhere before my career is over.”

LeBron James, the NBA superstar who turned 40 this year, recently stated in an interview that he believes he could continue playing at a high level for another 5 to 7 years if he wanted to. However, he also made it clear that he has no intentions of doing so.

Despite being in incredible physical shape and still performing at an elite level, LeBron explained that he wants to prioritize spending time with his family and focusing on other business ventures once his playing career comes to an end. He emphasized that his family has always been his top priority and he wants to make sure he is there for them as much as possible.

LeBron’s dedication to his family and his future beyond basketball is admirable, and fans around the world are sure to support whatever decision he makes regarding his playing career. While it may be disappointing to think of LeBron eventually hanging up his sneakers, it is clear that he has a bright future ahead of him no matter what path he chooses to take.

Bryce James, son of NBA superstar LeBron James, commits to Arizona

    CNN
     —

Bryce James, the younger son of basketball legend LeBron James, has committed to the University of Arizona as a member of the Wildcats’ 2025 class.

The 17-year-old made the announcement on Instagram with a photoshopped image of himself playing for the team next to Wildcats head coach Tommy Lloyd, along with the caption “100% committed.”

Bryce’s father, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron, posted the same graphic on Instagram along with the message: “CONGRATULATIONS MAXIMUS!! SO PROUD OF YOU!!!”

Bryce is rated by ESPN scouts as a four-star prospect. He played 14 games last year for his father’s Strive for Greatness program on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League circuit, in which he averaged 6.9 points and 2.2 rebounds. His shooting was 39% from the field and 36.8% from three-point range.

The six-foot-four small forward also had offers from Ohio State and Duquesne, per ESPN. The Dukes, who are coached by LeBron’s close friend and high school teammate Dru Joyce III, made an offer all the way back in the summer of 2022.

Bryce joins Arizona as the second player recruited to the 2025 class, following the arrival of top prospect Dwayne Aristode in October. The Wildcats are reportedly still chasing three top-15 players: Koa Peat, Brayden Burries and Alijah Arenas.

Since making history alongside his father on October 22, Bronny has been assigned to the Lakers' G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.

LeBron’s older son Bronny spent one season with USC in 2023-24, but suffered a cardiac arrest due to a congenital heart defect before the season, which limited him to six starts for the Trojans.

He was selected by the Lakers in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, before he and LeBron became the league’s first father-son duo to feature in a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves in October.

Speculation over LeBron’s future has been rife all season. “To be honest, if I really wanted to, I could probably play this game at a high level, probably about another – weird that I might say it – about another five or seven years if I wanted to,” the four-time league MVP said on Monday, his 40th birthday. “But I’m not going to do that.”

In a shocking turn of events, Bryce James, the son of basketball icon LeBron James, has decided to commit to the University of Arizona for his collegiate basketball career.

The decision comes as a surprise to many, as Bryce had been heavily recruited by top programs across the country. However, he ultimately chose Arizona for its strong basketball program, impressive facilities, and coaching staff.

Bryce is following in his father’s footsteps as a highly-touted prospect, known for his athleticism, scoring ability, and basketball IQ. With his commitment to Arizona, he is sure to make a significant impact on the college basketball scene.

Fans are already buzzing with excitement at the prospect of seeing Bryce James donning the Arizona Wildcats jersey and showcasing his skills on the court. It’s safe to say that the future looks bright for this young star in the making.

Bryce James, the younger son of LeBron James, has committed to Arizona as part of the Wildcats’ 2025 class.

James made his announcement on Instagram, with the caption “100% committed.”

James, a four-star prospect from Sierra Canyon (California), also held offers from Ohio State and Duquesne. The Dukes were his first offer, extending it back in the summer of 2022, and James took an unofficial visit to Ohio State in the fall of 2023. He also recently took an unofficial visit to Arizona.

In 14 games last spring with the Strive For Greatness grassroots program on the Nike EYBL circuit, James averaged 6.9 points and 2.2 rebounds, shooting 39% from the field and 36.8% from 3-point range in 22.0 minutes per game. He made multiple 3-pointers in seven games, highlighted by a 21-point, six-rebound effort against NightRydas Elite when he shot 5-for-9 from behind the arc.

He played five games with SFG at the Nike Peach Jam, averaging 5.6 points. He again had his best performance against NightRydas Elite, scoring 12 points in 23 minutes.

James was also invited to the USA Basketball under-17 national team training camp last June.

James’ older brother, Bronny, played one season at USC before turning pro. Bronny suffered cardiac arrest during a team workout the summer before his freshman year, impacting his lone season with the Trojans. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of last June’s NBA draft.

Arizona now has two players in its 2025 recruiting class, with James joining top-25 prospect Dwayne Aristode, who committed to the Wildcats in October and put pen to paper during the early signing period. Tommy Lloyd has a trio of high-level targets left in the 2025 class, including Koa Peat (No. 8 in the ESPN 100), Brayden Burries (No. 10) and Alijah Arenas (No. 15), who recently reclassified from 2026 into the senior class.

LeBron James’ youngest son, Bryce James, has officially committed to playing basketball at the University of Arizona. The 17-year-old guard is following in his father’s footsteps and continuing the family’s basketball legacy.

Bryce is a highly touted prospect, known for his elite ball-handling skills, basketball IQ, and scoring ability. He has been playing AAU basketball for years and has garnered attention from top college programs across the country.

LeBron James, who played college basketball at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, has been a vocal supporter of his son’s decision to play for Arizona. He took to social media to express his pride and excitement for Bryce’s future.

Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd is thrilled to have Bryce join the Wildcats’ program and is confident that he will make an immediate impact on the court. With his talent and dedication to the game, Bryce has the potential to become a star player for Arizona and continue to make his family proud.

Wildcats fans are eagerly anticipating Bryce James’ arrival on campus and are looking forward to watching him excel in the Pac-12 conference. • LeBron James, Stephen Curry 3rd at positions in NBA All-Star voting

LeBron James, Stephen Curry 3rd at positions in NBA All-Star voting

The NBA’s first round of All-Star voting was released Thursday afternoon, and in the latest sign of a transition in eras in the association, LeBron James and Stephen Curry rank third at their respective positions.

James sits third overall in the West frontcourt voting — still in a starting spot — with 1.17 million votes, sitting behind Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic (1.4 million votes) and Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant (1.27 million), though James has a healthy lead for the third and final starting spot over Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis and San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama, who each have over 900,000 votes cast.

Golden State‘s Curry, meanwhile, could be finding himself coming off the bench for a second straight year out West, as he sits behind Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (1.05 million votes) and Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic, whose 870,071 votes is about 60,000 ahead of Curry’s tally.

Doncic, however, is out for the next several weeks with a calf strain, which could allow Curry to get himself back in the mix to start in his home All-Star Game in San Francisco in February.

In the East, meanwhile, Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo — after snapping James’ seven-year streak as the top vote-getter last year — is leading all vote-getters again this year with 1.7 million votes cast thus far. He is followed by Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum (1.38 million), who is on course to make his sixth consecutive All-Star Game, while New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns had the third starting spot with just over 1 million votes.

No other East frontcourt player has even half a million votes, putting those three in a very strong position to finish the voting in those three spots.

The closest battle of all the position groups comes in the East backcourt, where LaMelo Ball, with just under a million votes, is in first, but Donovan Mitchell of the NBA-leading Cleveland Cavaliers is just 13,000 votes ahead of Bucks guard Damian Lillard for the second starting spot in the East.

Jalen Brunson is in fourth with just under 500,000 votes, and Trae Young is fifth with just over 350,000.

Voting totals will be updated again Jan. 9 and Jan. 16, with voting concluding on Monday, Jan. 20. Fan voting makes up 50% of the voting when it comes to who starts, with media and player voting accounting for 25% each.

The starters for both conferences will be announced Jan. 23, and the reserves will be unveiled a week later.

The NBA All-Star voting results are in and two of the league’s biggest stars, LeBron James and Stephen Curry, have landed in 3rd place at their respective positions.

LeBron James, a 17-time All-Star and one of the greatest players of all time, received the 3rd most votes among Western Conference forwards. Despite his impressive resume and continued dominance on the court, James found himself behind Kevin Durant and Nikola Jokic in the voting this year.

On the other hand, Stephen Curry, a 7-time All-Star and one of the best shooters in NBA history, also finished in 3rd place among Western Conference guards. Curry, who has been putting up incredible numbers this season, was edged out by Luka Doncic and Ja Morant in the voting.

While both LeBron James and Stephen Curry may not have secured the top spot in All-Star voting this year, there is no doubt that they will still be major attractions at the All-Star Game and will continue to showcase their incredible talent on the court.

LeBron James and Stephen Curry, two of the biggest superstars in the NBA, are currently sitting in 3rd place at their respective positions in the All-Star voting. Despite their incredible skill and popularity, they are facing tough competition in this year’s All-Star race.

LeBron James, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, is currently behind Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo in the frontcourt voting for the Western Conference. Known for his incredible athleticism and basketball IQ, LeBron has been a perennial All-Star and is considered one of the greatest players of all time.

On the other hand, Stephen Curry, who plays for the Golden State Warriors, is currently behind Kyrie Irving and Bradley Beal in the backcourt voting for the Eastern Conference. Curry is known for his sharpshooting and playmaking abilities, and has led the Warriors to multiple NBA championships.

While it’s surprising to see these two superstars not leading in the All-Star voting, there is still time for fans to cast their votes and help them secure their spots in the starting lineup. With their talent and impact on the game, LeBron James and Stephen Curry are sure to be key players in this year’s All-Star game.

In a shocking move, the Sacramento Kings have decided to fire head coach Mike Brown after a disappointing start to the season. The Kings, who currently sit near the bottom of the Western Conference, have struggled to find consistency under Brown’s leadership. It remains to be seen who will step in as the interim head coach for the Kings as they look to turn their season around.

Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors find themselves in a conundrum with rookie Jonathan Kuminga. The highly touted prospect has shown flashes of brilliance on the court, but has also struggled with inconsistency and turnovers. The Warriors are faced with the difficult decision of whether to continue giving Kuminga significant playing time or to limit his minutes in order to prioritize winning in the short term.

And in other news, NBA superstar LeBron James is celebrating his 40th birthday today. The future Hall of Famer continues to defy age and expectations, putting up impressive numbers and leading the Los Angeles Lakers to success on the court. As he enters his fifth decade, LeBron shows no signs of slowing down and remains a force to be reckoned with in the league.

It will be interesting to see how these storylines develop in the coming weeks and months as the NBA season progresses. Stay tuned for more updates and analysis on all things basketball. #NBA #SacramentoKings #GoldenStateWarriors #LeBronJames #BasketballBirthday
