The Evolution of Network Management: From Legacy Systems to SD-WAN

Network management has come a long way since the early days of legacy systems and manual configurations. With the rise of Software-Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN), network management has evolved to become more efficient, flexible, and automated.

Legacy network management systems relied heavily on manual configurations and were often complex and time-consuming to manage. IT administrators had to manually configure each network device, monitor performance, and troubleshoot issues, leading to high operational costs and limited scalability.

However, with the introduction of SD-WAN technology, network management has undergone a significant transformation. SD-WAN allows organizations to centrally manage and control their network infrastructure through software, rather than relying on hardware-based solutions. This shift towards software-defined networking has revolutionized the way organizations manage their networks, offering a more agile and cost-effective approach to network management.

One of the key benefits of SD-WAN is its ability to provide improved visibility and control over network traffic. By using software to define network policies and routes, organizations can ensure optimal performance and security across their network infrastructure. SD-WAN also enables organizations to prioritize critical applications and services, ensuring that they receive the necessary bandwidth and resources to function effectively.

Another major advantage of SD-WAN is its ability to simplify network management through automation. SD-WAN solutions offer centralized management and configuration capabilities, allowing IT administrators to easily deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot their network infrastructure. This automation not only reduces the time and effort required to manage networks but also improves overall efficiency and reliability.

Furthermore, SD-WAN technology offers greater flexibility and scalability compared to legacy systems. Organizations can easily scale their network infrastructure to accommodate changing business needs and growth, without the need for costly hardware upgrades. This flexibility allows organizations to adapt quickly to evolving technologies and market trends, giving them a competitive edge in today’s fast-paced business environment.

In conclusion, the evolution of network management from legacy systems to SD-WAN has revolutionized the way organizations manage their networks. SD-WAN technology offers improved visibility, control, automation, flexibility, and scalability, making it a valuable asset for businesses looking to optimize their network infrastructure. As organizations continue to embrace digital transformation and cloud-based technologies, SD-WAN will play a crucial role in shaping the future of network management.

  • U-19 World Cup – Ecstasy for Indian teens who want to create ‘legacy of winning ICC trophies’

“Coming at the start of the tournament, I think I mentioned one thing that we are here to dominate, we are here to make sure that India stays on top.”

Those were the words of India captain Niki Prasad after she led India to a second consecutive Women’s Under-19 World Cup title in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. And dominate is what India did throughout the tournament, winning all their games and not letting any team score more against them than the 113 for 8 that England made in the semi-finals.

India had chased in four of the six games before the final, and they won all those matches comfortably, never losing more than two wickets. After South Africa won the toss and chose to bat in the title bout, India just replicated the template that served them so well through the competition, their spinners playing a pivotal role in getting the opposition out for 82.

India then chased down the target in 11.2 overs, with G Trisha – who also returned figures of 3 for 15 with the ball – scoring an unbeaten 44.

“We are definitely going to create this legacy of winning ICC trophies, winning a lot of trophies for India,” Prasad said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Prasad had to put behind her the disappointment of not making the squad for the previous Under-19 World Cup, which India won under the captaincy of Shafali Verma in 2023, but she’s soaking it all in now.

“I think I’m feeling really happy that I am right here standing, making sure that India stays on top. And it’s obviously a special moment that we’re playing the World Cup and doing this for India,” she said.

India lost the toss and were asked to bowl. Prasad said India drew from their experience bowling first in most of their matches in the competition.

“I think all of us just tried to stay calm and down-to-earth and just stick to doing what our job is,” she said.

“I think if we would have won the toss we would have definitely chosen batting but you know throughout the tournament we’ve been bowling well and we’ve been bowling first [more] so nevertheless we just wanted to go out there and show what we can do.”

Trisha, who was named Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament, dedicated the latter award to her father, who was in the audience.

“Because of him I started playing cricket. I don’t think without him I would have been here,” said Trisha, who was also part of the team in 2023.

While she played in the middle order in 2023, Trisha was pushed up to open this time around, and she ended up topping the run charts with 309 runs from seven matches with an average of 77.25. No other batter reached the 200-run mark. Her strike rate of 147.14 was also the best in the tournament.

Trisha, who said she idolises Mithali Raj, has been working on her power game in recent times and credited India’s batting coach Apoorva S Desaii for giving her role clarity before the competition.

“So we’ve been working on [my power game] since a while. For this tournament our batting coach Apoorva sir he has kept telling ‘you are going to open the innings and make sure you’re ready for it’,” Trisha said.

Apart from her heroics with the bat, Trisha also returned seven wickets from the six games she bowled in.

    India’s left-arm spin trio ‘like a family’

While Vaishnavi topped the charts with 17 strikes, Shukla and Sisodia were not far behind with 14 and 10 wickets respectively.

According to them, the three are close and have developed a great understanding between themselves.

“I guess back in the room in the hotel, what all three we talk about is nothing related to our bowling,” Sisodia said after India’s win. “All our bowling just came and, you know, in the game coming on we just enjoyed ourselves.

“We keep telling each other a little bit of, you know, what the batters are doing, helping each other [on the field].

“At this point, I guess, we are just, you know, eye contacting and we are understanding each other now.”

With all of them being left-arm spinners, is there competition or does this fact not affect them?

“We are like the best friends,” Sisodia was quick to respond, with emphasis on the “best”. Vaishnavi, who was too overcome with emotion to speak a few minutes earlier was quick to interject: “We are like family actually. We all are family.”

Asked about their plans for the future, Sisodia said: “I guess all of us… I mean, not just us [three] but the whole team, we all want to just go ahead and, you know, never look back from here.”

Wicketkeeper and opener G Kamalini, who was animatedly photobombing the interview, then came in and summed up the feelings of the team in a line in Tamil: “World Cup-pa thookittom [We have lifted the World Cup].”

The U-19 World Cup has always been a platform for young cricketers to showcase their talent and make a mark on the international stage. For Indian teens, it is more than just a tournament – it is an opportunity to create a legacy of winning ICC trophies.

The Indian U-19 team has a rich history of success in the tournament, having won it four times in the past. The likes of Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, and Mohammad Kaif have all made their mark in the U-19 World Cup before going on to have successful careers in the senior team.

For the current crop of Indian teens, winning the U-19 World Cup is not just about the trophy itself, but about setting a precedent for future generations. They want to create a legacy of winning ICC trophies and continue the tradition of producing world-class cricketers.

The ecstasy of winning the U-19 World Cup is unparalleled for these young cricketers, as it not only brings them personal glory but also puts them on the radar of selectors for the senior team. It is a stepping stone towards fulfilling their dreams of representing India at the highest level.

As the Indian U-19 team gears up for the upcoming World Cup, the excitement and anticipation among the players and fans are palpable. They are determined to make their mark on the world stage and create a legacy that will be remembered for years to come.

  • 5 keys that defined Calipari’s Kentucky basketball legacy

On Saturday, John Calipari will return to Lexington for the first time since he left Kentucky for Arkansas in April.

His homecoming is one of the biggest events of the 2024-25 men’s college basketball calendar. Calipari is, after all, responsible for taking Kentucky to seven Elite Eights, four Final Fours and one national championship title, as well as for finding and signing elite young talent who went on to be NBA stars.

“Walking in that arena, storied arena, and walking in the wrong door, the other door,” Calipari said during his weekly radio show ahead of Saturday’s showdown (9 p.m. ET, ESPN). “Seeing my friends the night before. Having my friends — dear friends, lifelong friends — but they’re Kentucky fans. Their whole life they’ve been Kentucky fans. I just hope they’re neutral. But they are Kentucky fans. We gave our heart and soul. [My wife] was like a mother to those kids. So, yes, there is going to be some emotion.”

For all of Calipari’s successes, the end of his tenure in Lexington was frustrating — for everyone. When he left, his legacy was marred by two NCAA tournament first-round upsets in the previous three seasons, a public spat with the school’s football coach and a lack of bringing Kentucky more of the national titles fans were accustomed to.

He was expected to bring his earlier successes to the Wildcats’ SEC rivals in Fayetteville, but the Razorbacks are currently struggling in SEC play, having lost six of their past seven games. Additionally, star freshman and NBA prospect Boogie Fland is out for the season because of a hand injury. The Razorbacks will need a miraculous finish to play their way onto the NCAA tournament bubble.

It’s a stark contrast to how Kentucky is faring in its new era, under coach Mark Pope.

The No. 12 Wildcats are poised to secure a top seed in the NCAA tournament after marquee wins over Duke, Gonzaga, Louisville, Florida and Tennessee. They’re currently 4-3 in SEC play, commendable given the caliber of the league this season. They’re clearly thriving under their new coach, who has brought a new energy to the blue blood program.

Still, Pope hopes Calipari is treated with grace in his return.

“We have been blessed at the University of Kentucky to have some of the greatest coaches to ever coach the game of basketball,” Pope said on his weekly radio show Wednesday. “Certainly, Cal is one of those. He’s a Hall of Fame coach. In his 15-year tenure, what he accomplished at the University of Kentucky was incredible. In some ways, he revolutionized the game of college basketball, and that probably won’t be reproduced in the same way he did it.”

Ahead of Saturday, let’s take a look at key moments that defined Calipari’s 15-year tenure in Lexington.

    An explosive, star-filled debut

When Calipari became Kentucky’s head coach on April 1, 2009, he was inheriting a program that had been stuck in the worst postseason drought in school history. Though it had made the NCAA tournament nearly every year since 1992, Kentucky hadn’t reached the Final Four in 11 years.

Those 2009-10 Wildcats went viral. Calipari had signed one of the best recruiting classes in the country, including DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall, who went on to be first-team AP All-Americans. They and three others were picked in the first round of the 2010 NBA draft — a record at the time. “The John Wall Dance,” performed by the star freshman before the season began, was mimicked around the country.

Calipari invited Drake to Big Blue Madness, Kentucky’s preseason kickoff, and the rapper showed up, announcing his new allegiance to the Wildcats. (In his 2015 song, “Scholarship,” the Canadian star even rapped, “I rock Kentucky blue,” highlighting his friendship with Calipari and other Wildcats.)

He and other celebrities — Jay Z, Ashley Judd, Samuel L. Jackson, Shaquille O’Neal — attended Kentucky games, putting a stamp on the program’s newfound popularity and cultural appeal beyond basketball. That the Wildcats once again fell short in the Elite Eight in 2010 didn’t matter. Calipari had restored the program’s name and elevated expectations in his first year on the job.

Yet, Calipari also angered some when he said the 2010 NBA draft was “the biggest day in the history of Kentucky’s program.” The statement hinted at his eventual approach to college basketball: sign as many future pros as possible and market Kentucky as their best landing spot before the NBA.

    A national championship and a near-perfect season

In 2010, Calipari received a tip about a young talent in the Midwest who’d grown seven inches over the summer and would soon attract offers from every top program in the country. At Perspectives Charter School in Chicago, Anthony Davis didn’t even have access to a real gym, so he and his teammates had to practice at a nearby church.

Coming off the success of his first season in Lexington, Calipari pursued Davis, who would anchor a decorated 2011 recruiting class featuring three top-10 prospects (Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Marquis Teague). Davis became just the second freshman in the sport’s history to win the Wooden Award after he and his teammates led Kentucky to its eighth national championship in 2012. Davis and Kidd-Gilchrist then became the first teammates to go first and second in the NBA draft, respectively, that year.

The national championship run not only made Kentucky a giant of that era — it was part of four Final Four appearances from 2011 to 2015 — it also established the blue blood program as an NBA factory for young stars. And Calipari seemed to own his reputation as the greatest recruiter of the one-and-done era.

Prior to the 2014-15 season, he held an NBA combine-like workout in Lexington just for his team, attended by dozens of NBA scouts and executives. That team, starring Karl-Anthony Towns and Devin Booker, won its first 38 games and was undefeated until it lost to Wisconsin in the Final Four. Still, six players — including No. 1 pick Towns — were selected in the NBA draft that summer.

It seemed then as if Calipari’s greatest years had just started. If Mike Krzyzewski was the king of college basketball, then Calipari was the game’s prince. The truth, however, was that Kentucky had unknowingly peaked.

An evolving landscape costs Kentucky its grip on elite talent

In 2013, Krzyzewski stated his concerns about the trend of freshmen turning pro after one season and the instability the shift could create within the sport. Two years later, Krzyzewski won his fifth and final national championship with a team led by Jahlil Okafor, Tyus Jones and Justise Winslow, three one-and-done players. Coach K’s switch had coincided with a swift change throughout the sport: Calipari no longer had a monopoly on one-and-done talent.

Elite players continued to sign with the Wildcats — De’Aaron Fox, Bam Adebayo and Malik Monk led the program to the Elite Eight in 2017 — but at a decreasing rate. The 2019 recruiting class represented the first time Calipari had failed to sign a top-10 recruit in ESPN’s rankings at Kentucky. By then, however, the sport was changing again, with coaches craving more veteran talent via the transfer portal, which was introduced in 2018.

On top of that, an additional year of eligibility granted to every Division I player because of the COVID-19 pandemic meant more fourth-, fifth- and sixth-year players were available. Teams could regroup, and had to, every year with experienced players, rather than going with freshmen. Combine all this with the change to transfer eligibility and NIL rules, and the market for talent has significantly shifted toward older players. For Calipari, who failed to reach another Final Four after 2015, it had rapidly become more difficult to recruit and win.

“Everybody was mad about a young player coming in and only staying one year,” Calipari said of the portal during a 2023 SportsCenter interview. “Well, now we’re doing it with older players. It’s the same as one-and-done.”

    He added: “We’ve got 26- and 27-year-olds playing 18-year-olds.”

A disconnect with a passionate fan base

Before 2014-15, Calipari hosted a celebrity softball game for charity. Fans packed a ballpark near the Lexington campus to watch local standouts and celebrities such as Steve Zahn (“The White Lotus”) and former NFL star Cris Carter compete. Calipari was hounded by fans as he walked throughout the venue. They wanted pictures. They wanted to shake his hand. They wanted to see him up close.

Nearly a decade later, however, Calipari, per sources, became reclusive and disconnected from a fan base frustrated that he hadn’t hung more national championship banners from the rafters at Rupp Arena. He called members of Big Blue Nation, Kentucky’s fan base, “Basketball Bennies,” which some saw as condescending. He also stopped doing some of his weekly news conferences himself, instead tagging an assistant to do them on his behalf. And he ignored interview requests from local and national media.

As Calipari appeared to distance himself from the spotlight while trying to adapt to the changing sport, his staff experienced significant turnover as well.

“You know,” said one former staffer who worked under him at Kentucky, “Calipari only does things one way.”

On the court, Calipari’s squads collapsed. We’ll never know what a team led by Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey would have done at the end of the 2019-20 season because the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the cancellation of the NCAA tournament. During the 2020-21 campaign, Kentucky finished 9-16, its worst record in more than 100 years. A year later, a 26-win group led by Wooden Award winner Oscar Tshiebwe earned a 2-seed in NCAA tournament but was upset by 15-seed Saint Peter’s in the opening round.

Kentucky’s supporters experienced a feeling they had not endured in over a decade: embarrassment.

“We were all ready for this year,” Calipari said in an Instagram post after the loss. “This team didn’t disappoint and I remain proud and fond of each of these players. Please steer your disappointment and anger toward me. These kids did this for all of the [Big Blue Nation] and I wish I could have dragged them over the finish line.”

Just three years after he’d led his team to the Elite Eight in 2019, Calipari had suffered through two unimaginable seasons. The marriage between Kentucky and Calipari, it seemed, was suddenly on the rocks.

Arkansas’ Calipari on last-second win vs. Georgia: ‘These kids fight’

John Calipari talks about the events that led to the Razorbacks getting their first win of conference play and the ebbs and flows that come with the game of basketball.

Amid an apparent rift with his team’s fan base and even his own athletic department over athletics facilities, Calipari — who had a lifetime contract — entered the 2023-24 season with a sense of urgency. He had multiple projected lottery picks (Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham) again. He had Antonio Reeves (20.2 PPG, 45% from the 3-point line), one of America’s best players. He also had the best 3-point shooting team in America.

But then it happened again. The 3-seeded Wildcats fell to 14-seed Oakland in the first round of the NCAA tournament. It was Kentucky’s third consecutive failure to reach the second weekend, and the second opening-round loss in three years.

Days later, Calipari and AD Mitch Barnhart held a joint interview together on a local TV station as questions about Calipari’s future percolated. They wanted to show the top brass at Kentucky and its most prominent coach were on the same page.

“I put my heart and soul in this program,” Calipari said during the interview with Lex18, a local station in Lexington. “So, yes, I care. What we do is a reflection of how we are and how much we care. The state — I believe I’ve proven who I am across the state.”

Just over a week after that, Calipari bolted for Arkansas. And one of Kentucky’s most impressive, trend-setting but ultimately turbulent and troubling chapters ended.

    1. Recruiting Dominance: Calipari’s ability to consistently bring in top-tier talent to Kentucky has been a major factor in the team’s success. His recruiting prowess has led to multiple No. 1 ranked recruiting classes and produced numerous NBA draft picks.
    2. Final Four Appearances: Calipari has led the Wildcats to four Final Four appearances during his tenure, including a national championship in 2012. His teams have consistently been contenders in the NCAA tournament, making deep runs and capturing the attention of college basketball fans.
    3. Player Development: Calipari’s emphasis on player development has been another key to his success at Kentucky. Many players have improved their skills and draft stock under his guidance, with several going on to have successful NBA careers.
    4. SEC Dominance: Under Calipari, Kentucky has been a dominant force in the SEC, winning multiple conference championships and consistently being ranked among the top teams in the country. His teams have set high standards for success in the conference.
    5. Cultural Impact: Calipari’s tenure at Kentucky has had a significant impact on the college basketball landscape. His innovative coaching style, commitment to excellence, and ability to attract top talent have raised the bar for programs across the country. He has helped solidify Kentucky as a powerhouse program with a rich tradition and a bright future.

The Evolution of Network Management: From Legacy Systems to Modern Solutions

Network management has come a long way since the early days of computing. In the past, network management was a manual and time-consuming process, often requiring IT professionals to physically visit each device on a network to monitor and troubleshoot issues. However, with the advent of modern technology and the rise of complex networks, the need for more efficient and effective network management solutions became apparent.

The evolution of network management can be traced back to the development of legacy systems, which relied heavily on command-line interfaces and basic monitoring tools. These systems were often limited in their capabilities and required significant expertise to operate effectively. As networks grew in size and complexity, it became clear that a more advanced approach to network management was needed.

The shift towards modern network management solutions began with the development of SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) in the late 1980s. SNMP allowed network administrators to monitor and manage devices on a network remotely, providing a more efficient and centralized approach to network management. This was a significant step forward in the evolution of network management, as it enabled administrators to monitor and troubleshoot network issues from a single interface.

The advent of cloud computing and virtualization further revolutionized network management, allowing for the centralized management of distributed networks. Cloud-based network management solutions provided administrators with real-time visibility into network performance and allowed for the automation of routine tasks, such as configuration management and troubleshooting. This shift towards automation and cloud-based solutions has significantly improved the efficiency and effectiveness of network management.

Today, modern network management solutions offer a wide range of features and capabilities, including real-time monitoring, automated alerting, and predictive analytics. These solutions enable administrators to proactively manage and optimize their networks, leading to improved performance and reliability. Additionally, modern network management solutions often integrate with other IT systems, such as security and compliance tools, to provide a comprehensive view of the network environment.

Overall, the evolution of network management from legacy systems to modern solutions has been driven by the need for more efficient and effective ways to manage the complex networks of today. By embracing new technologies and automation, network administrators can better monitor and manage their networks, leading to improved performance and reliability. As networks continue to grow and evolve, it is clear that the future of network management lies in advanced, cloud-based solutions that offer a comprehensive and centralized approach to network management.

After premiering just before Thanksgiving last year, Gladiator 2 was one of the biggest movies of the year, earning over $450 million at the worldwide box office to narrowly pass the original, although not as much as Paramount executives were likely hoping for. After debuting on digital platforms around Christmas and seeing a dual run in theaters and on VOD, Gladiator 2 finally hit streaming last week, and to no one’s surprise, the film has been an instant hit. Gladiator 2 currently occupies the #1 spot on Paramount+ at the time of writing, even edging out the original Gladiator which sits at #3 at the time of writing. Gladiator 2 earned scores of 71% from critics and 82% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, lower than the original but still respectable.

Original Gladiator director Ridley Scott also returned to helm the sequel, with Peter Craig and David Scarpa penning the script for David Franzoni receiving writing credit as well for his work on the original Gladiator. Scott has been making blockbuster movies for the better part of 50 years now; one of his earliest works is also his most famous. In 1977, Scott directed Alien, the hit sci-fi horror thriller that was such a hit that the franchise is still going to this day. Scott is also known for his work on Blade Runner, the 1982 sci-fi film starring Harrison Ford, but he passed directorial duties off to Denis Villeneuve for the sequel, Blade Runner 2049, which also brought Ryan Gosling into the cast. Scott is also famous for his work on The Martian, the 2015 sci-fi thriller starring Matt Damon that’s based on the novel by Andy Weir.

If you’ve watched both Gladiator movies on Paramount+ but are still looking for something else to dive into, look no further than Top Gun: Maverick, the 2022 smash hit aerial action film starring Tom Cruise that earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office and was an international sensation. Mel Gibson‘s Braveheart, which won him Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director, is also one of the more popular movies on Paramount+, along with Transformers One, the animated Transformers flick starring Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson that was released last year.

Gladiator 2 stars Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington and was directed by Ridley Scott. Stay tuned to Collider for future streaming updates and watch Gladiator 2 on Paramount+.

  • Johnny Depp, Jude Law keep Heath Ledger’s legacy alive

Heath Ledger is famous for playing Joker in The Dark Knight
Heath Ledger is famous for playing ‘Joker’ in ‘The Dark Knight’

Heath Ledger, who died due to accidental overdose of prescription medications on January 22, 2008, was already working on some projects prior to his demise.

Soon after his sudden death, the ventures he was working on were left in the middle.

For instance, Ledger was working on The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus before his death.

After he died, director Terry Gilliam feared that it might tank the project as the late Australian actor was playing a very significant character in the fantasy adventure.

This is when, Terry came up with the idea of recasting Heath’s role. Therefore, he took on-board three actors and close friends to The Dark Knight actor to portray the act with all having the same character.

Therefore, he first approached Johnny Depp to feature in the film, who happily agreed to do the role as he was quite a good friend of Ledger.

Later, the creator turned to Jude Law and Penguin star Colin Farrell to continue the late actor’s legacy in the movie. All happily agreed to do the movie.

Gilliam first thought to use CGI to supplement Heath’s appearance, but he ditched that idea himself and came up with another brilliant plan.

There is a scene in the 2009 movie where ‘Tony’ passes through the mirror and changes shape. The director felt he could infuse the three superstars in that part.

As the character passes through the mirror three times, therefore it seemed logical as well to use three different actors.

Surprisingly, Jude, Colin and Johnny all three gave quite wide ranging performances, reported Collider.

Johnny Depp and Jude Law, two talented actors who were close friends with the late Heath Ledger, continue to honor his legacy in their work and personal lives.

Ledger, who tragically passed away in 2008 at the young age of 28, left behind a lasting impact on the film industry with his iconic performances in films such as “Brokeback Mountain,” “The Dark Knight,” and “A Knight’s Tale.”

Depp and Law, who both worked with Ledger on various projects, have spoken fondly of their friendship with him and have expressed their admiration for his talent and passion for acting. In interviews, they have praised Ledger’s dedication to his craft and his ability to fully immerse himself in his roles.

In recent years, both Depp and Law have continued to pay tribute to Ledger by taking on challenging and diverse roles that push the boundaries of their acting abilities. Depp’s portrayal of eccentric characters like Captain Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise and Law’s transformative performances in films like “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” are a testament to their commitment to their craft, much like Ledger’s own dedication to his work.

As fans of Ledger, Depp and Law have also taken steps to keep his memory alive by supporting initiatives and projects that honor his legacy. Depp, in particular, has been vocal about his admiration for Ledger and has spoken out about the impact that his friend had on him personally and professionally.

In a time when Hollywood is constantly evolving and changing, it is heartwarming to see actors like Depp and Law continue to remember and celebrate the life and work of their dear friend, Heath Ledger. Through their own performances and actions, they are ensuring that Ledger’s legacy will never be forgotten.

  • New Ferry Named After Jackie Robinson Celebrates Legacy

On January 29, 2025, New York Waterway proudly christened its latest ferry, aptly named the “Jackie Robinson,” honoring the legendary baseball player and civil rights pioneer. The 500-passenger ferry is scheduled to begin operations on January 31, providing additional transportation options during the temporary closure of the Hoboken PATH station. This ceremony not only highlights the ferry’s practical role but also pays tribute to Robinson’s enduring legacy.

At the christening ceremony held in Weehawken, New Jersey, Jackie Robinson’s granddaughter, Sonya Pankey, expressed her family’s gratitude for such recognition. “We are honored to have something like this to really honor [our grandfather’s] legacy. But I hope the next generation will really learn and embrace what we did for society and baseball,” she said. Her words reflect the family’s commitment to keeping Robinson’s memory alive, both on and off the baseball field.

The legacy of Jackie Robinson, the pioneering African American baseball player who broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball, is being honored in a unique way. A new ferry has been named after Robinson, celebrating his contributions to the world of sports and civil rights.

The Jackie Robinson Ferry will transport passengers across the water with the same grace and determination that Robinson displayed on the baseball field. This tribute serves as a reminder of the impact that one individual can have on society, inspiring others to break down barriers and strive for equality.

As passengers board the ferry, they will be reminded of Robinson’s courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to justice. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who continue to fight for equality and inclusion.

The Jackie Robinson Ferry is more than just a mode of transportation – it is a symbol of hope, progress, and unity. Let us honor Robinson’s memory by continuing to work towards a more just and equitable world for all.

  • Hogwarts Legacy PC Mod Support Launches Later This Week With Free Update

Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Software have confirmed plans to launch Hogwarts Legacy mod support for PC, opening the floodgates for players to add whatever their hearts desire to the Harry Potter video game.

The team announced the addition with a special video presentation, below, revealing a release date of January 30, 2025 for a free update that includes the highly requested feature. It’ll only be for PC for now, with the team sharing no news about when or if players can expect to see modding come to consoles.

“We’ve made it easy for everyone. It’s all simplified with official tools provided by us,” Avalanche community manager Chandler Wood said. “For mod creators, you’ll be able to get the official Hogwarts Legacy creator kit, free on the Epic Games Store. The creator kit provides powerful tools right at your fingertips, allowing you to flex your inner developer like the ones here at Avalanche and conjure the magic with custom mods that other players can enjoy, too.”

Hogwarts Legacy mods will almost certainly devolve into chaos immediately as players rush to add Shrek, Thomas the Tank Engine, and more nonsense to the open-world Harry Potter game. Thankfully, Avalanche is here to help fans get a head start. The studio said it’s been working with members of the community to make a few mods available on day one, including creative broom options like dragons and a vacuum cleaner as well as unique cosmetics, an endless dungeon experience to test your combat skills, and a magical creature fetch quest. More community-generated content will no doubt appear in the months ahead, giving players more than enough content to keep them busy as Avalanche looks ahead.

Hogwarts Legacy launched for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S in February 2023, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions following in May and the Nintendo Switch version following in November. That means it’ll celebrate its two-year anniversary next month with full-on mod support, but the free update is far from the only post-launch support the project has received since it arrived.

Last year alone saw previously PlayStation-exclusive content coming to other platforms as part of a summer update that also added photo mode, new cosmetics, and more. Hogwarts Legacy has sold an incredible 30 million units as of November 2024.

While we wait for mod support to drop, you can read up on why Avalanche says Hogwarts Legacy 2 is one of its “biggest priorities.” You can also see how the sequel may share a few elements with the upcoming Harry Potter TV show.
