    Quelle: BILD

Leipzig will zurück auf Platz 4

In a shocking revelation by German publication BILD, it has been revealed that RB Leipzig’s CEO Oliver Mintzlaff was on the verge of becoming the boss at Bayer Leverkusen. According to the report, Mintzlaff was approached by Leverkusen for the top job but ultimately decided to stay at Leipzig.

This news comes as a surprise to many in the football world, as Mintzlaff has been instrumental in RB Leipzig’s rise to prominence in the Bundesliga. Under his leadership, the club has consistently punched above its weight and established itself as a force to be reckoned with in German football.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Mintzlaff and RB Leipzig, but one thing is for sure – his decision to stay at the club will undoubtedly have a significant impact on their continued success. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Bundesliga-Konferenz, 19.

SC Freiburg – FC Bayern -:-

RB Leipzig – Bayer Leverkusen -:-

Borussia Dortmund – Werder Bremen -:-

    FC Augsburg – 1. FC Heidenheim -:-

    FSV Mainz 05 – VfB Stuttgart -:-

    Bundesliga-Konferenz live (15.30 Uhr)

    Borussia Dortmund – Werder Bremen

Personal: Zesiger fehlt Augsburg Gelb-gesperrt.

FSV Mainz 05 – VfB Stuttgart

The Bundesliga-Konferenz for the 19th matchday was full of surprises and intense matchups.

One of the biggest shocks of the day was Bayern Munich’s embarrassing loss to Freiburg. The reigning champions suffered a 2-1 defeat, with Freiburg putting in a strong performance to secure the victory. This result has raised questions about Bayern’s form and ability to maintain their dominance in the league.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund faced a tough test following the departure of Nuri Sahin. The team showed great resilience and determination in their match, securing a crucial win to keep their title hopes alive. The absence of Sahin was felt, but the team managed to pull through and secure the important three points.

In Leipzig, fans were treated to a thrilling match between two top teams. The game was a real nail-biter, with both sides giving it their all to secure the win. In the end, Leipzig emerged victorious in a close contest, showcasing their strength and determination to compete at the highest level.

Overall, the 19th matchday of the Bundesliga provided fans with plenty of drama and excitement, setting the stage for an exciting second half of the season. Stay tuned for more thrilling action in the weeks to come!

  • Preview: RB Leipzig vs. Sporting Lisbon – prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday’s Champions League clash between RB Leipzig and Sporting Lisbon, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Sporting Lisbon will look to get their Champions League campaign back on track when they face an RB Leipzig side who have already been eliminated.

Back-to-back defeats in this competition to end 2024 saw Sporting plummet down the standings, while Leipzig are rooted to the bottom, with six defeats from six.

    Match preview

RB Leipzig's Christoph Baumgartner looks disconsolate on December 10, 2024© Imago

An already dismal campaign had another low at the weekend for Marco Rose‘s Leipzig, as they squandered a 3-0 lead to draw with bottom-of-the-table Bochum in the Bundesliga.

Being without Benjamin Sesko and Lois Openda after their red cards in the defeat at Stuttgart, Rose will have been delighted to see his men blow Bochum away inside the first 45 minutes, until a Myron Boadu hat trick hauled the hosts back level, and ultimately saw Leipzig drop out of the top four.

Their two star strikers will return here, but even with their quality, RB have been unable to pick up a single point in the Champions League so far, and another defeat here will see them equal the record for most consecutive UCL losses by a German club – currently held by Bayer Leverkusen (seven in 2002-03).

Leipzig are not alone at the bottom of the standings with nul points though, as Swiss strugglers Young Boys and debutants Slovan Bratislava are also yet to get off the mark this season.

This will be a tricky test for a side who have been hopeless on the continent, but with Sturm Graz to come on matchday eight, Leipzig will be hugely disappointed if they end the campaign still without a point.

Die Roten Bullen’s clashes with Portuguese clubs have often gone quite well, suffering just one defeat in four meetings, against Porto back in 2017.

Sporting had a very enjoyable evening the last time they visited Germany in the Champions League though, sweeping Eintracht Frankfurt aside 3-0, but they must regain some consistency if they are to enjoy any repeat here.

Francisco Trincao of Sporting Lisbon on November 26, 2024© Imago

Form has fallen off a cliff since Ruben Amorim left for Manchester United, with his replacement Joao Pereira already sacked.

Under Pereira, Sporting lost 5-1 at home to Arsenal, and away to Club Brugge on matchday six, after Amorim had taken 10 points from a possible 12 before his departure.

That leaves the Lions on the brink of their longest losing run in this competition in almost a decade, but the positive is that results have picked up since Rui Borges was given the job just after Christmas.

Pereira suffered four straight defeats, including at home to Santa Clara, and away at Moreirense, and was then sacked on December 25, with Borges coming in and recording home wins over both Porto and Benfica.

The new manager has suffered a huge disappointment already though in his brief tenure, losing the Taca da Liga final to Benfica earlier this month, but a 3-0 win at Rio Ave paired with Porto’s defeat at Gil Vicente this weekend means they sit three points clear at the top of the Primeira Liga.

Attention now turns to the Champions League though, and it is likely that only one more point will be required for Sporting to be assured of a playoff spot, while two wins would give them an outside shot at breaking into the top eight, with Bologna at home to come on matchday eight.

    Team News

RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko on January 12, 2025© Imago

Leipzig are set to be without injured trio Xaver Schlager, Castello Lukeba and Andre Silva until February at the earliest, but West Ham are believed to have enquired about the latter over a potential move this month.

Yussuf Poulsen returned after two months out injured at the weekend, but a place on the bench is likely for him, with Sesko and Openda available again after suspension.

Benjamin Henrichs will miss the rest of the season with a serious leg injury, so new signing Ridle Baku has stepped in and started the last two games at right wing-back in his place.

Pedro Goncalves is set to be the big miss for Sporting after he did not take part in training ahead of this encounter.

Potentially joining Goncalves on the sidelines are defensive trio Eduardo Quaresma, Nuno Santos and Matheus Reis, with all three also being absent from training, but Viktor Gyokeres should return to the starting XI after scoring as a late sub at the weekend, notching a sixth goal in four games.

Sporting have already entered the transfer market this month too, signing Real Betis keeper Rui Silva on loan for the rest of the season, and he has instantly taken the place of Franco Israel, on his return to Portugal after eight years in Spain.

    RB Leipzig possible starting lineup:
Gulacsi; Geertruida, Orban, Klostermann; Baku, Vermeeren, Seiwald, Raum; Simons, Openda, Sesko

    Sporting Lisbon possible starting lineup:
Rui Silva; Fresneda, Diomande, St Juste, Quenda; Catamo, Morita, Hjulmand; Trincao, Gyokeres, Araujo

    SM words green background

We say: RB Leipzig 2-3 Sporting Lisbon

Entertainment is often assured when Leipzig are involved, but none of that has gone in their favour in this Champions League campaign so far.

A few weeks ago, Sporting were losing every time they took to the field, but results have steadily improved and they will feel confident of returning to form on the continent here to make sure of their spot in the knockouts.

RB Leipzig will take on Sporting Lisbon in a highly anticipated match this weekend. Both teams are in good form and will be looking to secure a crucial victory in this fixture.

RB Leipzig are currently sitting in a strong position in the Bundesliga and will be looking to continue their impressive form in this match. With players like Christopher Nkunku and Andre Silva in top form, RB Leipzig will be a tough team to beat.

On the other hand, Sporting Lisbon have also been performing well in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. With the likes of Pedro Goncalves and Paulinho leading the attack, Sporting Lisbon will be a threat to RB Leipzig’s defense.

In terms of team news, both teams are expected to have a full squad available for this match. RB Leipzig will be without the services of Marcel Sabitzer who is sidelined with an injury, while Sporting Lisbon will be missing Goncalo Inacio due to suspension.

The predicted lineups for this match are as follows:

RB Leipzig: Gulacsi, Klostermann, Orban, Halstenberg, Mukiele, Haidara, Kampl, Forsberg, Nkunku, Olmo, Silva

Sporting Lisbon: Adan, Porro, Coates, Neto, Reis, Vinagre, Palhinha, Ugarte, Tabata, Goncalves, Paulinho

This is expected to be a closely contested match with both teams possessing quality players in their ranks. However, RB Leipzig’s home advantage could prove to be crucial in this fixture.

Prediction: RB Leipzig 2-1 Sporting Lisbon

RB Leipzig vs Sporting CP predictions

What a miserable season RB Leipzig are having in the Champions League.

The German outfit have not been also-rans in Europe’s premier competition in recent years. They reached the knockout phase in four of the last five seasons, including a run to the semi-finals in 2019/20.

Their aim at the start of the current campaign was to once again advance to the round of 16, most realistically via the knockout stage play-offs.

Instead, Leipzig have crashed and burned. A dismal record of six defeats in six games means their fate has already been sealed. Even a play-off place is out of reach for Marco Rose’s men.

What has gone wrong? It should be pointed out that Leipzig were handed a tough draw, with games against Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Liverpool, Celtic, Inter and Aston Villa. Most of their matches have been close, with five of their six defeats coming by a one-goal margin.

On paper at least, upcoming duels with Sporting CP and Sturm Graz look more winnable than some of those encounters, but the damage has already been done.

This is not a vintage Leipzig team. They are currently fifth in the Bundesliga and have a battle on their hands to qualify for next season’s edition of the Champions League.

Leipzig are a streaky side. They began the campaign with an eight-game unbeaten streak in the league, before going on to take one point from the next 12 available. Leipzig blow hot and cold, which does not help when they are facing stronger opponents in Europe.

Sporting CP, on the other hand, remain in the mix for a play-off place. Finishing between ninth and 24th is sufficient to extend a team’s participation beyond the league phase, and the Portuguese outfit are currently 17th.

It has been a turbulent few weeks for Sporting. Ruben Amorim left for Manchester United in November, with erstwhile B team boss Joao Pereira stepping up to take charge of first-team affairs.

However, Pereira only lasted until Christmas after a dismal run of results during his six weeks at the helm. The new man in the dugout is Rui Borges, who was poached from Vitoria de Guimaraes.

A win here for Sporting would probably confirm their place in the play-offs with a game to spare. That is what Borges will be aiming for in his first ever match as a Champions League manager.

RB Leipzig vs Sporting CP betting tips

Will RB Leipzig or Sporting CP come out on top in this Champions League clash on Wednesday?

    Sporting CP to win

There is no longer any possibility of a team in the Champions League dropping into the Europa League, a consolation prize that was removed with the move to a league phase.

That could have an impact on several games taking place both this week and next. RB Leipzig, for instance, have nothing tangible left to play for.

    Free Bet Offers

Get the best free bet offers all season

Of course, Rose’s team still have their own professional pride, but that is not as strong a motivational factor as Sporting CP’s push for a play-off place.

The Portuguese league leaders have returned to form of late, with Borges gradually beginning to rebuild confidence in the camp. Sporting can get the job done at the Red Bull Arena.

Tip Sporting CP to win at 50/21 with SBK

    Over 2.5 goals

This bet would have paid out in four of RB Leipzig’s six Champions League matches to date, as well as in each of Sporting CP’s last three European assignments.

The pressure is off RB Leipzig and that could contribute to an open game. The hosts are free to take risks in the knowledge that the result does not really matter.

Leipzig are not particularly convincing defensively at the best of times. They have shipped 12 goals in their last four outings in the Bundesliga, for instance.

Sporting have not been as solid at the back since Amorim’s departure. A 4-4 draw with Vitoria de Guimaraes at the start of the year illustrated that.

This promises to be an entertaining encounter in Germany.

Go for over 2.5 goals at 8/13 with Paddy Power

Viktor Gyokeres to score any time

It was widely assumed that Viktor Gyokeres would be the subject of several bids in the winter window, but it looks like the Sporting CP striker will stay put until the summer at least.

That is fantastic news for a club that faces a real title battle with both Porto and Benfica, the two other clubs that complete Portugal’s ‘big three’.

Gyokeres, who is thought to be a target for Arsenal and Manchester United among others, is enjoying a magnificent season.

The Sweden international has scored 33 goals in 31 games in all competitions. He can reach 34, and perhaps even more, on Wednesday.

Back Viktor Gyokeres to score any time at 5/4 with Copybet

Sporting CP, on the other hand, has been performing well in the Primeira Liga and currently sits at the top of the table. This match is expected to be a close one, with both teams having the potential to come out on top. However, RB Leipzig may have a slight edge due to their strong attacking options.

    Odds:
The odds for this match are likely to be close, with RB Leipzig being the slight favorites due to their higher league position. However, Sporting CP should not be underestimated and could pull off an upset. The odds for a draw are also worth considering, as both teams are evenly matched.

  • RB Leipzig vs Sporting Lisbon Prediction, Odds & Picks

6 defeats from 6 games ensure that RB Leipzig’s Champions League campaign will end after the league phase concludes, but they should contest a high-scoring meeting with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday. Die Roten Bullen are 1 of 3 teams yet to pick up a point in the competition, although it must be noted that they were handed one of the toughest draws in the league phase. Meetings with Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Liverpool, Celtic, Inter Milan and Aston Villa have all ended in defeat, but Sporting have only won 5 of their 13 games since Ruben Amorim’s departure for Manchester United so Leipzig could be competitive. An abundance of goals looks likely, with 4 of the hosts’ 6 Champions League games and each of Sporting’s last 3 in the competition all featuring 3 or more goals. Each of the hosts’ last 6 in all competitions have also gone over 2.5 goals, so that looks a solid bet.

RB Leipzig vs Sporting Lisbon Prediction, Odds & Picks

RB Leipzig will face off against Sporting Lisbon in an exciting matchup that is sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats. Both teams have been in good form recently, making this game a difficult one to predict. However, based on current form and recent performances, we believe that RB Leipzig will come out on top.

RB Leipzig has been on a hot streak lately, winning their last five matches in a row. They have a strong attacking lineup led by star striker Andre Silva, who has been in top form. Sporting Lisbon, on the other hand, has been struggling in recent games and will have a tough task ahead of them.

In terms of odds, RB Leipzig is the favorite to win this match. They have been given odds of 1.75, while Sporting Lisbon has odds of 4.00. This indicates that bookmakers believe RB Leipzig has a higher chance of winning.

  • 3:3 nach 0:3-Halbzeitrückstand: Bochum überrascht Leipzig mit Comeback

    Stand: 18.01.2025 17:27 Uhr

Boadu macht Comeback vom Elfmeterpunkt perfekt

Bochum in Gladbach, Leipzig gegen Leverkusen
