Hello Percy Jackson fans! Today I want to talk about the first book in the series, The Lightning Thief.

Percy Jackson is a demigod, the son of Poseidon, who discovers his true identity and embarks on a journey to find Zeus’s stolen lightning bolt. Along the way, he faces many challenges and battles monsters, all while trying to navigate the world of Greek mythology.

I absolutely loved this book. The characters are engaging, the plot is fast-paced, and the world-building is fantastic. Rick Riordan does an amazing job blending modern-day settings with ancient mythology, creating a unique and captivating story.

If you haven’t read The Lightning Thief yet, I highly recommend it. It’s a thrilling adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Percy Jackson is definitely a hero worth rooting for!

  • Red Wings Out for Redemption Against Lightning

DETROIT—Saturday night, the Detroit Red Wings host the Tampa Bay Lightning at Little Caesars Arena, with an eye toward a stronger performance than last Saturday’s effort in Tampa, when the Bolts rolled for a 5–1 victory.

“I thought we started slow in their rink, just on our heels right from the beginning. It wasn’t our best game,” assessed Detroit defenseman Ben Chiarot after Saturday morning’s pre-game skate.  “When we start fast, get on teams, get shots to the net early in the game, get us momentum, I think that’s when we’re at our best, and we didn’t do that in their rink.”  That was precisely the sort of start the Red Wings enjoyed Thursday night against the Canadiens, en route to a season-high 45 shots on goal and a 4–2 victory.

Sunday will mark exactly one month since new coach Todd McLellan (and his top assistant Trent Yawney) were hired, but Saturday morning, he stressed that there remain chunks of the game he and Yawney haven’t had the chance to fully imprint their vision on the team.

“There’s a lot of…segments of our game where we’re just figuring things out as a staff and figuring out what we’re doing,” McLellan said Saturday morning.  “Trent and I are catching up.  I think the day that I got hired, I said there’s no way that we’re gonna be able to adapt or change everything.  We just don’t have the practice time…When you take a paint brush and just wipe it all out, it can be dangerous too.  There were some really good things that they were doing here before, so we don’t have to fix everything, but there are areas that we still haven’t gotten to.”

One area McLellan has repeatedly emphasized from the moment of his introduction is confidence and spirit.  To Chiarot, Detroit’s ability to bounce back from a difficult road trip against the Habs Thursday illustrates McLellan’s success in generating that kind of belief.

“Confidence is everything in sports, I think, and he’s been able to create that within the group,” Chiarot said after morning skate.  “And the group has done a good job of taking it and running with it, and when we lose it for a little bit like we did on the trip, getting it right back with things like…getting those shots to the net, playing in the offensive zone, good things happen for us, so it’s been a good lesson for us in how to gain momentum and confidence and how to keep it.”

Detroit will look for that confidence to manifest in another fast start Saturday night against the Lightning (a 7 PM puck drop on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit and 97.1 The Ticket).  Per McLellan, the Red Wings will be rolling with the same lineup from Thursday night, down to Cam Talbot in net.

  • Lightning at Red Wings: The light at the end of the tunnel

Game Forty-eight: Tampa Bay Lightning (26-18-3) at Detroit Red Wings (22-21-5)

    Time: 7:00 PM EST

    Location: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit

TV/Stream/Radio: FDSNSUN, FDSNDET, ESPN+, 102.5 FM, Lightning App

    Odds: Lightning – 135

Know the Opponents: Winging it in Motown

If nothing else, the Lightning’s 4-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks last night stemmed the point-bleeding for at least one night. They picked up two important points, which allowed them to move back above the Wild Card fray for the moment. Now, all they have to do is do it all over again. While they may be a little tired (chances are they didn’t get into Detroit until the wee hours of the frozen morn) they can look forward to, if not a relaxing break, at least a return to a bit of normalcy.

Following the game tonight, the Lightning have two days off before starting a five-game home-stand on Tuesday against Chicago. Games against the Blackhawks and Kings will close out the busiest month of the year, a month that they definitely survived more than thrived. The good news is that the rest of the schedule should roll out fairly normally with just one back-to-back before the majority of the team gets a 4 Nations Face-Off related break in February.

Tonight is another “win by any means necessary” type of affair. All the Lightning should be focused on is getting the two points and getting out of Motown. A win, and they open up a healthy eight-point lead on the Red Wings, which puts quite a bit of distance between them and a team that was on their heels just a couple of weeks ago. Not that the Bolts can breathe too much as there are still more than enough teams in their own division right on their heels.

Last night’s game was a little closer than it needed to be, especially considering the shot domination that the Lightning displayed in the first and third periods. As has been the case for most of the last few seasons, when they did lapse for a little, their opponents took advantage as Chicago struck twice in a span of two minutes. At least they mixed things up a bit in their “two-period” style of play by taking the second period off instead of the first.

There was more good than bad though. The re-aligned power play continues to cook as they tallied three more goals with the extra skater or two. While Chicago is struggling overall, their penalty kill was pretty solid at 81.2%, so to go three-for-three against them is nothing to casually bat aside.

If the Bolts can pull is off tonight, it’s a good, but not great, road trip and they can refocus on getting through this stretch. A team doesn’t want to be playing their best hockey in February, but they do want to be building towards being better. They also don’t want to fumble away a playoff spot. So far the Lightning have done the second part, but they need to start working on the first.

The Tampa Bay Lightning faced off against the Detroit Red Wings in a thrilling matchup that left fans on the edge of their seats. The Lightning, known for their lightning-fast speed and skilled players, were up against a tough Red Wings team that was hungry for a win.

As the game progressed, both teams traded goals and the intensity of the game continued to build. The Lightning’s star players, including Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos, showcased their talents and helped the team maintain a slight lead over the Red Wings.

But it was in the third period that the Lightning truly shined, scoring two quick goals to secure their victory over the Red Wings. The energy in the arena was electric as the Lightning fans cheered on their team, knowing that they were witnessing a special moment.

As the final buzzer sounded and the Lightning celebrated their win, it was clear that they were a team on a mission. With their sights set on the playoffs, the Lightning showed that they were a force to be reckoned with.

  • Lightning Acquire Ryder Korczak From Rangers

The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired forward prospect Ryder Korczak from the New York Rangers in exchange for forward prospect Lucas Edmonds. Both players are in the midst of their third AHL season, after third-round selections in the 2021 and 2022 drafts respectively.

Neither player has managed much scoring in their early pro careers. Korczak has spent slightly longer in an NHL system. He was originally selected 75th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft, after a season of being heralded as a second-to-third round pick. He was admired for his hard-working two-way play, high scoring, and leadership abilities through four years with the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors. He worked his way up to a staggering 69 games in 48 games in 2022-23, his final WHL season, before joining the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack for five games at the end of the year. Korczak has since worked his way through a middle-six role in Hartford. He scored 20 points in 67 games last season and is currently riding 11 points in 35 games this year. It’s commendable depth scoring, but far from what New York was hoping for from their gritty third-rounder.

After not landing a draft selection in 2019, 2020, or 2021 – the early-birthday Edmonds finally earned the 86th-overall selection in 2022 after posting 113 points in 68 games with the Kingston Frontenacs. He moved to the AHL in the following season and posted a commendable 15 goals and 27 points in 49 games as a rookie. But Edmonds has struggled to match those numbers since, totaling just 21 points in 71 games through the last two seasons.

Korczak and Edmonds share a lot of parallels – and will now get a chance to use a change of scenery to try and return to the heights of their junior scoring.

In a blockbuster trade, the Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired forward Ryder Korczak from the New York Rangers. Korczak, a highly touted prospect, is known for his speed, skill, and scoring ability.

The Lightning are hoping that Korczak will provide an immediate impact on their roster, as they look to make a deep playoff run this season. With his talent and potential, Korczak could be a key piece in helping the Lightning compete for another Stanley Cup.

Fans are excited to see what Korczak can bring to the team and are eager to watch him in action as he suits up in the blue and white of the Lightning. Stay tuned for updates on how Korczak performs with his new team! #GoBolts #NHLTradeDeadline.

  • Lightning acquire forward Ryder Korczak from New York Rangers

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired forward Ryder Korczak from the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Lucas Edmonds, vice president and general manager Julien BriseBois announced today.

Korczak, 22, has played in 35 games with the American Hockey League’s Hartford Wolf Pack this season, recording three goals and 11 points with 14 penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating. The 5-foot-11, 172-pound forward has skated in 107 career AHL contests, all with Hartford, registering 12 goals and 31 points with three power-play goals and 42 penalty minutes. He made his Calder Cup Playoffs debut last season with the Wolf Pack, collecting one goal and two points in 10 postseason contests.

A native of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Korczak was originally drafted by the Rangers, 75th overall, in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have made a bold move to bolster their forward depth by acquiring Ryder Korczak from the New York Rangers. Korczak, a highly skilled and versatile forward, is expected to bring a jolt of energy and scoring prowess to the Lightning lineup.

General Manager Julien BriseBois expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating, “We believe Ryder Korczak is a dynamic player who will fit in seamlessly with our team and contribute to our success on the ice. We are thrilled to have him join the Lightning family.”

Korczak, a former first-round pick of the Rangers, has shown great promise in his young career and is poised to make a significant impact for the Lightning. Fans can look forward to seeing him in action as he dons the blue and white of Tampa Bay.

Stay tuned for more updates as Korczak settles in with his new team and makes his mark in the Lightning lineup. #GoBolts #WelcomeRyder

Who’s ready for a Brandon Hagel Revenge Game on a Friday night at the United Center? In all seriousness, the Blackhawks come in having played well enough to win in their last three games, but have only one victory to show for it. Tampa’s a good team, so this is another strong test.

The Blackhawks made a couple roster moves on Thursday, placing Craig Smith on IR and recalling Ethan Del Mastro from Rockford.

    What to Watch For

    • The Blackhawks have points in their last three games (1-0-2). Tampa’s another really good team. Let’s see if they can put together a full 60-minute effort.
    • Bedard has points in 12 of his last 14 games but did not register one in the loss to Carolina. He scored a goal in the game following a pointless game the last two times he was off the board.
    • Del Mastro and Allan played a lot together in Rockford last season (with Del Mastro on his off-side on the right). The Blackhawks are looking for some of that chemistry tonight. Here’s hoping they have it and can stick together at the NHL level.
    • Let’s get a goal from Nazar and/or Dach tonight.

  • Lightning vs Blackhawks Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Bolts have dominated its series with the Blackhawks since 2017, and our expert NHL predictions expect Tampa Bay’s dominance to continue tonight at Chicago.

Tony Sartori - Betting Analyst at Covers.com

    Jan 24, 2025 • 06:46 ET

    • 4 min read

The Chicago Blackhawks host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday evening at the United Center at 8:00 p.m. ET. According to NHL odds, Tampa enters this game as a -220 favorite, with the total set at six goals.

The Bolts have dominated this matchup over the past decade, winning 16 of the past 19 meetings. 15 of those 16 wins have come by at least a two-goal margin.

Read on as I explain my Lightning vs. Blackhawks predictions and NHL picks for Friday, January 25.

    Lightning vs Blackhawks prediction

    My best bet
    Lightning -1.5 (+115 at BetMGM)

    My analysis
It shouldn’t be very shocking that the Tampa Bay Lightning have dominated this matchup since 2017, given each organization’s direction since then. This gap continues to widen in 2025, as Tampa is the stronger team in every category.

One of the best goaltenders of this generation, Andrei Vasilevskiy, is slated to guard the cage for the Bolts on Friday. Vasilevskiy is 20-14-2 with a .914 SV% and 2.38 GAA through 36 starts this season.

The strong two-way play in front of him has made his job easier. The Lightning rank ninth in xGA/60.

Meanwhile, this blue line and goaltender can play confidently, knowing that this team can light the lamp at any time. Entering this matchup, Tampa ranks 10th in xGF/60 and first in goals scored per game.

This success in the offensive zone is likely to continue against the Chicago Blackhawks, a team that ranks 26th in xGA/60. Goaltender Petr Mrazek, who is projected to start between the pipes on Friday, has struggled with the product in front of him.

    Through 28 starts, Mrazek is 9-16-2 with a .896 SV%.

The Bolts possess the stronger goaltender, offense, and blue line, and there is little reason to believe that they won’t win by two or more goals against the Hawks once again.

Lightning vs Blackhawks same-game parlay (SGP)

    Lightning -1.5

Brayden Point any time goal scorer

Jake Guentzel any time goal scorer

If we are backing Tampa to win by two or more goals, then we need some of its skaters to find the back of the net. There are no two better candidates than Brayden Point and Jake Guentzel, who rank first and second, respectively, on the team in both goals and power-play goals.

They skate together on both the second line and first power play unit, two relatively easy ways to attack Chicago. The Hawks rank 20th in penalty minutes taken per game and 28th in xGA/60 at 5-on-5.

At least one of either Point or Guentzel scored in three of the past four games, while both scored in two outings.
