Borg’s DFS Cash Lineup Review for Week 16 (Fantasy Football)

This week is going to be a whirlwind between Christmas … and the onslaught of DFS slates we have in front of him.

Make sure you bookmark ChristmasFootball.com for all of your Christmas football needs.

The goal of this article is neither to boast nor wallow in “shoulda, woulda, couldas” but rather give a transparent look at my thought process for the week. Hopefully, this will help DFS & Betting Podcast listeners and DFS Pass subscribers get a deeper window into the ups and downs of playing DFS and help you in your selections each week. On Tuesdays, Betz and I review our cash lineups, and this week we’ll give some common overreactions we see and hear.

For cash, I specifically play 50/50s, Double-Ups, and H2Hs on DraftKings. I’ll share my unfiltered gut reaction, and the thought process behind this lineup construction, and at the bottom, I will post my weekly results including the cash line and H2H record to stay accountable with you.

If you want to go back to the drawing board, we did an overview podcast before the season on DFS Cash Game Strategy + Creating Player Pools. I also published an article on DFS Strategy for Beginners and another entitled: How to Approach Each Position in DFS & Gain an Edge.

    Week 16 Cash Lineup

Draft % and cash lines each week will be from DraftKings’ $25 Single-Entry Double-Up with roughly 3,200 entries. This is a slightly elevated price point from the $1, $5, and $10 double-ups and I think gives a solid idea each week of double-up roster percentages.

    The Thought Process

    Cash Locks (In My Opinion)

    • In our Week 16 DFS Best Plays (which comes out on Saturdays for DFS Pass subscribers only), I shared the pool of players and this week was blatantly obvious who the top plays were.
    • Two of the RBs were locks: Jahmyr Gibbs and James Conner. That much was clear after over 2/3rds of the field decided to play both of the RBs in great spots.
    • I also conceded Brenton Strange in my cash lineup. I’m assumed 60+ percent of the field would play him in Double-Ups so instead of trying to get cute in cash, Strange is the pierce I play and move on. The outcome sucked but he didn’t really affect outcomes of cash lineups.
    • The only other lock in my lineup from the beginning of the week was D.J. Moore. His 16 targets against the Lions previously loomed large and while 14 PPR points is a fine outcome, you were left wanting moore.

    Gut-Wrenching Decisions

My goal in this section is to discuss the pool of players I considered for cash and how I arrived at my final lineup.

    • Ok, I need to be 100% transparent. This is something I shared on the podcast and probably isn’t the most actionable advice for DFS here but I emotionally hedged this week in cash. I wish I could say I could remove myself and be above this… nope!
    • I ran this poll below a few weeks back but my main home league is the elusive title for me in fantasy. Always the bridesmaid. In my semi-final matchup, I was facing (get this) James Conner, Brian Thomas Jr., Chase Brown, and Brenton Strange. Yep, four dudes who profiled as legit cash options this week.
    • With Conner and Strange already in, the hardest part was sifting through RBs. I liked Bijan Robinson the most but his price was causing me to feel uncomfortable at some of my other WR spots. Also, he is on my main league team. There was more emotional hedging than you could know. If Bijan went off, hey I’ll be happy! Chase Brown was a happy consolation prize knowing he’d been an RB1 for six straight games! And if he went off, I could feel good in DFS but bad in my main league. I know… not that complicated, perhaps a bit myopic and self-centered!
    • In case you thought you were the only one, the RBs on Week 16’s slate went absolutely bonkers. In tournaments, you could’ve had two guys hit 25+ points and it probably didn’t matter. You needed three of them and there were so many different guys who hit that mark (Betz’s Slatebreaker JTT, James Cook, etc.)
    • At QB, Michael Penix Jr. and Anthony Richardson were the only real options on my radar. I once again emotionally hedged here playing Richardson > Penix for my Falcons fandom. But also, I was worried that Atlanta would turn him into a game manager. You certainly played the slate right playing Penix knowing so many other stud RBs balled out. However, I did think Richardson’s rushing floor was enough to push him to my QB1 spot in the Best Plays rankings.
    • The real question for this slate was what you would do in the middle range of WRs. Here were our WR Best Plays and honestly, I liked a lot of them.

    • Meyers snuck in above BTJ thanks to AOC being the QB for the Raiders. Malik Washington was a late addition and probably a bit lazy of a player to throw in there at the last minute.
    • At DST, I shared that paying up (above $3K) was what builds were dictating this week. I hate paying up for a defense but BUF and CIN both looked like prime spots at home to ball out. Both were excellent plays and I landed on the Bills.
    • Also, something I shared with our Discord:

    What Did the Field Do

My goal in this section is to discuss the pool of players used the most in cash style contests. You can compare the roster percentage, DK outputs, and how much of their salary they X’ed this week.

    Mistakes Were Made …

Every week I’ll highlight my biggest mistakes which range from not weighing low-end outcomes to assuming, to not thinking, and ultimately moving away from plays I started with. We’ve all been there… stay water. Don’t try to justify yourself or make things sound better than they were. You made a decision, now deal with it.

    • In hindsight, the extra cash I used getting up to the Bills could’ve been used elsewhere. The Bengals were certainly in play against DTR so I probably should’ve saved that $300 and paid up at another spot: JSN for Nabers rom Jakobi? Either of those pivots would’ve definitely had me hit the cash line.

    2024 Results

Each week I’ll post my head-to-head (H2H) win percentage here to give you an idea of what type of week I had. Keep in mind there are varying price points, competition, and players who take my H2Hs in the lobby that have no rhyme or reason. The volume of my H2Hs differs each week due to my feeling of the slate and my weekend activities with my family. Every week I will also post the “cash line” from the $25 Double-Up from DraftKings.

Week Cash Line DK Pts H2H Win% Note
    1 125.98 113.08 23% Engram Failure
    2 128.84 139.04 88% Godwin Life

    16 141.88 136.24 35% Emotional Hedging
    AVG 131.97 134.75 59%

Welp, I missed the cash line for the first time since Week 9! However, that emotional hedging was worth it as I currently will be playing for my home league title.

Borg’s DFS Cash Lineup Review for Week 16 (Fantasy Football)

Week 16 of the NFL season is in the books, and it’s time to review how the Borg’s DFS cash lineup performed. Let’s take a look at the players who helped us cash in this week:

    Quarterback:
    – Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles): Despite facing a tough Arizona defense, Hurts came through for us with a solid performance, throwing for 338 yards and three touchdowns, as well as rushing for 63 yards and another score.

    Running Backs:
    – Alvin Kamara (New Orleans Saints): Kamara had a big game against the Vikings, rushing for 88 yards and a touchdown, while also catching three passes for 36 yards.
    – David Montgomery (Chicago Bears): Montgomery continued his hot streak, rushing for 95 yards and a touchdown, and adding 40 receiving yards.

    Wide Receivers:
    – Keke Coutee (Houston Texans): Coutee had a breakout game against the Colts, catching eight passes for 141 yards and a touchdown.
    – Marvin Jones Jr. (Detroit Lions): Jones had a solid performance, catching six passes for 62 yards and a touchdown.

    Tight End:
    – Dallas Goedert (Philadelphia Eagles): Goedert was a reliable target for Hurts, catching seven passes for 135 yards and a touchdown.

    Defense:
    – Chicago Bears: The Bears defense came up big against the Jaguars, recording two interceptions, a fumble recovery, and a touchdown.

Overall, the Borg’s DFS cash lineup had a strong showing in Week 16, with several players exceeding expectations and helping us secure a winning lineup. Stay tuned for more lineup reviews and fantasy football analysis in the weeks to come.

The St. Louis Blues are set to close out to close out the 2024 home slate in a Sunday matinee matchup against the Buffalo Sabres (2 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network, 101 ESPN, Blues App).

With a midday matchup, the Blues will not have a morning skate Sunday morning at Enterprise Center. Media availability with Head Coach Jim Montgomery and practice lines are based on Saturday’s practice at Centene Community Ice Center.

Minimal lineup changes are expected for the Blues after coming off a 7-4 win over the Nashville Predators on Friday.

Alexandre Texier, who missed Friday’s game with illness, could be an option to return for the Blues after rejoining the team for Saturday’s skate.

Montgomery confirmed that Texier could re-join the top line upon his return, and could push Jake Neighbours to the third line.

Additionally, Jim Montgomery confirmed that Radek Faksa, who has played only one game since sustaining a skate cut near the groin on Dec. 10 in Vancouver, could potentially draw back in for the Blues on Sunday.

“Faksa, he looks better in practice. [He’s] making the steps, but we’ve got to see how he responds,” Montgomery said. “That was a pretty hard 45-minute skate, so we’ve got to see how he responds to it.”

Jordan Binnington is expected to start in net.

  • Confirmed Liverpool lineup vs. West Ham: 1 change with Diaz up front – Liverpool FC

Confirmed Liverpool lineup vs. West Ham: 1 change with Diaz up front – Liverpool FC

Arne Slot has named his starting lineup for Liverpool’s final game of 2024, with just one change vs. West Ham.

The Reds are looking to sign off the year with a resounding lead at the top of the table, and can confirm that with victory in east London.

Alisson, who spoke before the game about the importance of this Liverpool making their own history, ends 2024 in goal.

He starts behind the back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson.

With Dominik Szoboszlai suspended, Slot has been forced to change his rotation plan, with the trio of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones retained.

There is an alteration in attack, though, with Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo joined by Luis Diaz as No. 9.

That leaves a strong bench including the likes of Harvey Elliott, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, but Federico Chiesa is not in the squad again.

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Jones; Salah, Gakpo, Diaz

Substitutes: Kelleher, Quansah, Tsimikas, Endo, McConnell, Elliott, Nunez, Jota, Danns

West Ham: Areola; Coufal, Wan-Bissaka, Kilman, Mavropanos, Emerson; Alvarez, Soler, Paqueta; Bowen, Kudus

Substitutes: Foderingham, Todibo, Cresswell, Irving, Scales, Guilherme, Summerville, Ings, Fullkrug

Liverpool FC have confirmed their lineup for their Premier League clash against West Ham United, with one change in the starting XI.

The only change sees youngster Luis Diaz coming in to lead the attack up front, replacing the injured Diogo Jota. The rest of the lineup remains unchanged, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane flanking Diaz in the front three.

Here is the confirmed Liverpool lineup:

Starting XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago, Salah, Diaz, Mane

Substitutes: Kelleher, Konate, Tsimikas, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Keita, Minamino

Liverpool will be looking to secure all three points against a tough West Ham side, as they continue their push for a top-four finish in the Premier League. Let’s hope Diaz can make a big impact in his first start for the Reds! #YNWA #LFC #LiverpoolFC #PremierLeague #WestHamUnited

Flames’ Projected Lineup & Notes Against Sharks – 12.28.24

The Calgary Flames (16-11-7) return from their Christmas break with a min-two game road trip that begins against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night.

It will be the first time 2024 first-overall pick Macklin Celebrini will play the Flames in his young career. Calgary recently played the top pick from the 2023 draft, Connor Bedard, who scored his first goal against the club in a 6-4 loss.

Tonight’s game will be memorable for Dustin Wolf, born in Gilroy, CA, a town roughly 35 minutes south of San Jose. This is the 23-year-old’s first game against his “hometown” team.

    He’s 10-5-2 this season with a 2.80 GAA and .910 SV%. However, he’s just 1-4-1 on the road with a 4.16 GAA and .862 SV%.

Meanwhile, against the two other California teams, the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings, Wolf is 2-0-0 with 2.00 GAA and .921 SV%.

The Sharks plan to start rookie Yaroslav Askarov, who has been 1-1-2 in four games since joining San Jose following a trade from the Nashville Predators this past summer.

Moreover, Celebrini will look to continue his strong play at home, where he has nine goals and 15 points in 12 games. As one of the front runners for the Calder Trophy, he’s got 11 goals and 26 points in 26 games, ranking fourth in team scoring.

Regarding their places in the standings, Calgary (39 points) ranks fifth in the Pacific Division and is two points behind the Vancouver Canucks for the last wildcard spot in the Western Conference.

The Sharks (28 points) remain last in the Pacific Division and have the NHL’s second-worst record, but they are front runners to win the NHL Draft Lottery for the second consecutive season.

  • Suns Announce Starting Lineup vs Warriors

Suns Announce Starting Lineup vs Warriors

The Phoenix Suns will have a new starting lineup tonight against the Golden State Warriors with Devin Booker and Jusuf Nurkic both out.

Booker (left groin strain) will be missing his fifth-straight game, while Nurkic is beginning his three-game suspension for his role in an altercation in last night’s 98-89 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

Grayson Allen (concussion protocol) and Bol Bol (left knee contusion) also did not make the quick trip and will both be out for the fifth-straight game.

Here’s the starting lineup coach Mike Budenholzer is rolling with tonight:

Jones is one of two Suns to have played in all 30 games this season. He will look to bounce back after a season-low three points against Dallas.

Beal also struggled against the Mavericks with only 11 points on 5-of-18 shooting and four turnovers after having arguably his best game of the season against the Denver Nuggets on Christmas. The Suns will need Beal to be aggressive tonight and feed off his energy.

Dunn is in the starting lineup for the third-straight game with Booker out. Phoenix will once again go to Royce O’Neale off the bench in favor of the rookie, who will have a tough test defensively against Stephen Curry and company.

Durant, as he has been in several games this season, was the lone bright spot against the Mavericks, leading the way with 35 points on 11-of-19 shooting. He will look to carry over this performance against his former team.

Plumlee will be making his eighth start this season in place of Nurkić. The big man has not scored in double figures since Nov. 12, but has been big on the glass and with his playmaking.

Tonight’s game tips off shortly after 6:30 p.m. Arizona time.

The Phoenix Suns have announced their starting lineup for tonight’s game against the Golden State Warriors.

Starting for the Suns will be:
    – Chris Paul at point guard
    – Devin Booker at shooting guard
    – Mikal Bridges at small forward
    – Jae Crowder at power forward
    – Deandre Ayton at center

This lineup has been a strong and cohesive unit for the Suns throughout the season, and they will look to continue their winning ways against the Warriors. Tune in to see these talented players in action as they take on one of the top teams in the Western Conference. Let’s go Suns! #PhoenixSuns #StartingLineup #NBA #GoldenStateWarriors

  • Penguins’ Projected Lineup & Notes Against Islanders – 12.28.24

Penguins’ Projected Lineup & Notes Against Islanders – 12.28.24

The Pittsburgh Penguins (16-15-5) return from their Christmas break, sitting one point from a wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference.

Their first opponent is the New York Islanders, a team just four points behind them in the standings and hoping to crash the wildcard race party.

Tonight, one of the key things to watch for is whether or not Sidney Crosby can become Pittsburgh’s all-time assist leader. Before the break, he had three helpers in a contest against the Philadelphia Flyers to tie Mario Lemieux’s record of 1,033 helpers.

Meanwhile, the last time the Penguins scored a touchdown in a game was on Dec. 12, when they defeated Montreal 9-2. However, the Ottawa Senators shut them down in their next contest, and they lost 3-2 in overtime.

Which Penguins team will show up on Long Island tonight? Will it be the NHL’s 10th-best offense or a team scrapping for every possible point who sometimes can’t score more than twice in a game?

Between the pipes, Tristan Jarry will get his first start against the Islanders this season since Alex Nedeljkovic suffered the shutout loss in November.

It will be his 16th career start against New York, one of his favorite opponents, thanks to an 11-3-1 record. Jarry’s record is 8-5-2 this year with a 3.47 GAA and .885 SV%.

The Islanders are rolling with Ilya Sorokin in goal, who is making his 26th start of the campaign. He is getting a lot of work these days while Sergei Varlamov recovers from a lower-body injury.

Sorokin is 9-5-0 in 14 games against the Penguins and playing very uncharacteristically this season, with a 10-11-4 record, a 2.95 GAA, and a .898 SV%.

New York (33 points) ranks eighth in the Metropolitan Division and has the seventh-worst record in the league. Meanwhile, the Penguins (37 points) remain fourth in the Metropolitan Division and one point out of the wildcard race.

    Penguins & Islanders Leaders

    • Goals: Rickard Rakell (16) / Anders Lee (13)

    • Assists: Sidney Crosby (29) / Bo Horvat (16)

    • PIM: Michael Bunting (30) / Maxim Tsyplakov (22)

    • PPG: Michael Bunting (5) / Anders Lee (3)

Tonight is the second of four meetings between the Penguins and Islanders. New York won the first contest at UBS Arena on Nov. 5 by a 4-3 score in a shootout.

The game is available on Sportsnet Pittsburgh and MSGN. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. ET.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are gearing up to take on the New York Islanders tonight at the PPG Paints Arena. Here is the projected lineup and some key notes for tonight’s matchup:

    Projected Lineup:
    Forwards:
    1. Jake Guentzel – Sidney Crosby – Bryan Rust
    2. Kasperi Kapanen – Evgeni Malkin – Evan Rodrigues
    3. Danton Heinen – Jeff Carter – Jason Zucker
    4. Teddy Blueger – Brock McGinn – Zach Aston-Reese

    Defense:
    1. Brian Dumoulin – Kris Letang
    2. Marcus Pettersson – John Marino
    3. Mike Matheson – Chad Ruhwedel

    Goalie:
    Tristan Jarry

    Notes:
    – The Penguins are coming off a dominant 5-1 win against the Detroit Red Wings and will look to carry that momentum into tonight’s game.
    – Sidney Crosby has been on fire recently, with 10 points in his last 5 games.

  • Alex Ovechkin back in Capitals’ lineup after missing 5 weeks

Alex Ovechkin back in Capitals’ lineup after missing 5 weeks

TORONTO — Alex Ovechkin will continue his pursuit of the NHL’s all-time scoring record when he returns to the Washington Capitals lineup Saturday against the Maple Leafs.

The Capitals’ winger has been sidelined since breaking his fibula on Nov. 18 in a collision with Utah Hockey Club forward Jack McBain. Ovechkin was leading the NHL with 15 goals in 18 games at the time — for 868 total goals in his career — and paused his hot pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s all-time scoring mark of 894.

That quest is back on now in a big way. But Ovechkin’s return means more than just that to Washington.

“The obvious thing [Ovechkin brings] is the goal scoring,” said Washington coach Spencer Carbery. “But I even just think the threat of him being able to score, I think it lifts up our entire group. Him being in the lineup, his presence, his infectious personality, demeanor, and him being on the ice…everybody in the building, along with our 19 other players, believe that he can score and that lifts our entire group up.”

Ovechkin said it was a “hard month” sitting on the sidelines with most of his efforts focused on working out in the gym. Getting back on Gretzky’s heels wasn’t at the forefront of his mind until he got the green light to back in.

“At that point, you don’t think about all the stuff happening around [the chase],” he said. “You just focus on your recovery, your injury, and you [try] to get better coming back.”

Many of Ovechkin’s teammates have been invested for years in his title run too, not only because of what it means for Ovechkin individually but their entire group.

“When you’re in the moment, you’re on the edge of your seat when he scores,” said Carbery. “But I honestly don’t think the guys pay that much attention to [the total], other than we’re just waiting for him to help us win another hockey game. I think it’s one of the reasons [Ovechkin] has been so successful; he’s so narrowly focused on helping us win a game tonight.”

The 39-year-old — who had never missed more than six games in his career with an ailment — was scheduled to be out 4-6 weeks following the injury. He resumed skating on Dec. 2 and had made steady progress into the NHL’s recent holiday break.

Ovechkin was back at Friday’s practice in his top-line spot with Dylan Strome and Aliaksei Protas and on the Capitals’ top power play unit, a strong indication that playing Saturday was the plan.

Washington went 10-5-1 without Ovechkin available and Carbery anticipates a significant “boost” for the Capitals as they try to maintain their position atop the Eastern Conference Standings.

“He’s our captain; he’s the greatest goal scorer of all time,” said Carbery. “You could feel it, like you were just waiting for the day when he’s going to come back in the lineup. You could feel his presence around and he’s participated a little bit more and now the day has come.”

After missing five weeks due to a lower-body injury, star forward Alex Ovechkin is finally back in the Washington Capitals’ lineup. The team and fans alike are thrilled to have their captain back on the ice, as Ovechkin is known for his scoring prowess and leadership on the team.

During his absence, the Capitals managed to stay competitive and maintain their position in the standings, but there’s no doubt that Ovechkin’s return will provide a much-needed boost to the team’s offensive production.

Ovechkin’s presence on the ice is sure to make a big impact on the team’s performance moving forward, and fans can’t wait to see him back in action. Welcome back, Ovi! #LetsGoCaps

Phoenix Suns Reveal Starting Lineup vs Dallas Mavericks

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns are looking to move 16-14 on the season tonight against the Dallas Mavericks – who will be without superstar G Luka Doncic.

The Suns are also set to be short-handed, with Devin Booker being ruled out for a third consecutive game.

Despite this, head coach Mike Budenholzer potentially cracked the code in terms of what works in games that Booker is absent in – that code could be going back to playing Royce O’Neale off the bench.

The starting five Budenholzer is rolling out tonight:

Jones is set to continue being one of two Suns to appear in all 30 contests this season – along with O’Neale – and is looking to reach double digit scoring figures for the 9th time in December.

Beal is coming off of one of his better showings of the season on Christmas – with a 27 point output in the victory over Denver.

Dunn will be receiving his second consecutive start – the rookie looks much more comfortable in the starting role compared to coming off of the bench.

Durant continues to build both an All-NBA and MVP case since returning from a mild ankle sprain – and will seek to outduel his former teammate Kyrie Irving.

Nurkic has been a recent topic in trade discussions, but did put up a 13-rebound, 6-assist effort in the last game.

Suns-Mavs is set to tip off shortly after 7 P.M. local time tonight.

The Phoenix Suns have officially revealed their starting lineup for tonight’s game against the Dallas Mavericks!

    Starting five:
    – Point Guard: Chris Paul
    – Shooting Guard: Devin Booker
    – Small Forward: Mikal Bridges
    – Power Forward: Jae Crowder
    – Center: Deandre Ayton

This lineup features a mix of veteran leadership and young talent, with Chris Paul and Devin Booker leading the charge on offense and Mikal Bridges providing strong defense on the perimeter. Jae Crowder brings a physical presence in the frontcourt, while Deandre Ayton anchors the paint with his shot-blocking and rebounding abilities.

It will be exciting to see how this lineup performs against a tough Mavericks team. Let’s go Suns! #RisePHX

Projected Lineup: Dec. 27 vs. Predators

Update: Alexandre Texier did not participate in pregame warmups and will not play in tonight’s game.

Coming off a 4-0 shutout win in Detroit prior to the holiday break, the Blues will return home to take on the Nashville Predators with a slightly new lineup look in the first of two home matchups to close out the year (7 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network Midwest, 101 ESPN, Blues App).

Alexandre Texier, who scored his second goal of the season after playing on the top line in Monday’s win over the Red Wings, did not skate Friday morning at Enterprise Center and will be a game-time decision due to illness, according to Head Coach Jim Montgomery.

“He earned the right to move up, to give us a different look up there… and I thought he was leading them [Robert Thomas and Pavel Buchnevich] with a purpose and pace. So that’s why he’s been rewarded with more ice time — I don’t know if he’ll play tonight but he’s going to get that opportunity again,” Montgomery said.

With Texier possibly out, Jake Neighbours would likely fill the left wing spot on the top line, while the second line of Dylan Holloway, Brayden Schenn, and Jordan Kyrou will stay together after creating two of Holloway’s three goals in Detroit.

Brandon Saad is expected to re-draw on the third line for Neighbours if Texier is unable to play.

Joel Hofer will return to the starter’s net for the Blues after going 4-0-1 in last five starts this season.

“We have to focus on ourselves [after] being off for three days. We played two complete games and we need to do that on home ice. It’s been a while since we’ve been able to be rested and give our fans something to cheer about for 60 minutes — and that’s what I’m looking forward to developing here.”
