  • South Carolina men’s basketball blows 14-point lead, loses 70-69 to Florida

South Carolina men’s basketball led No. 5 Florida for 38 minutes and 32 seconds of the 40 minutes, and spent another 1:23 tied.

Those other five seconds? The final notes of another heartbreaking loss.

South Carolina coughed up a 14-point lead in the second half, allowing Florida to steal a 70-69 win at Colonial Life Arena by taking its first and only lead of the night on a Will Richard drive with five seconds remaining.

Jacobi Wright’s last ditch shot at the buzzer missed wide to the left, and South Carolina (10-9, 0-6) is still searching for its first conference win after a third loss by three points or less in the last four games

After taking a 14-point lead with 12:46 remaining and still led by 13 with 8:49 left, Florida (17-2, 4-2 SEC) head coach Todd Golden switched to a three-quarter court press with some corner traps.

And with that, the Gamecocks melted.

South Carolina turned the ball over a staggering nine times in the final 8:49, looking completely overwhelmed and confused by the press. The turnovers came in all shapes and sizes, from poor inbounds passes, sloppy dribbling, questionable cross-court passes. The Gamecocks only hit three field goals over that stretch, failing to even get into their offense most of the night.

It was an all too familiar ending for this team, and a waste of one of the best halves the team has played all year.

Right from the start, Collin Murray-Boyles took over. He scored five points in the first 54 seconds of action, canning a straight-on 3-pointer and scoring on a finger roll on the first two possessions of the game. South Carolina quickly amassed a seven-point lead, an advantage it maintained all night mostly thanks to Murray-Boyles and the sharpshooting Zachary Davis who scored 22 points and was the main beneficiary of Murray-Boyles finding passing lanes out of his single coverage.

Defensively, it was a return to the best version of South Carolina. The Gamecocks were tenacious throughout the night and especially active in the first half, holding one of the best offensive teams in the nation under one point per possession and as Florida floundered for most of the first half.

And it was not much better for most of the second half. South Carolina built the lead as high as 14 points midway through the second half, before Golden finally changed things up.

South Carolina had no response to the press, and as a result still does not have a conference win.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, the South Carolina men’s basketball team blew a 14-point lead and ultimately fell to Florida by a score of 70-69. The Gamecocks seemed to be in control for much of the game, but a late surge by the Gators proved to be their undoing.

Despite a strong performance from star player Keyshawn Bryant, who finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds, South Carolina was unable to hold on to their lead in the final minutes of the game. Costly turnovers and missed opportunities allowed Florida to claw their way back and ultimately steal the victory.

This loss is a tough pill to swallow for the Gamecocks, who had a chance to secure a crucial win against a conference rival. It serves as a reminder of the importance of playing a full 40 minutes of basketball and not letting up until the final buzzer sounds.

As South Carolina looks to bounce back from this disappointing defeat, they will need to regroup and refocus in order to finish the season strong. With several key games remaining on their schedule, the Gamecocks will need to learn from this loss and come back stronger in their next outing.

  • Duke Basketball Squad Inexplicably Loses First-Place Vote

Duke basketball matched its highest ranking of the Jon Scheyer era by jumping one spot to No. 2 in the AP Top 25 Poll released on Monday afternoon. However, despite the fact that the Blue Devils (16-2, 8-0 ACC) are now enjoying the program’s longest winning streak in a decade at 12 games, they no longer boast any first-place votes after receiving one last week.

ALSO READ: Duke Signee Cameron Boozer Outperforms Former Blue Devil Target

No, this go-round, all 62 first-place votes belong to the Auburn Tigers (17-1, 5-0 SEC), whose lone defeat came on the road at the hands of Scheyer’s third Duke basketball team back in early December.

The Blue Devils went 2-0 last week, destroying the Miami Hurricanes at home, 89-54, on Tuesday night before tallying an impressive 88-63 road victory over the Boston College Eagles on Saturday night.

Following four straight weeks as the lone ranked ACC squad, Duke now has company from the conference in the form of the No. 25 Louisville Cardinals (14-5, 7-1).

So, the Blue Devils have now beaten two opponents who currently have rankings by their name. They knocked off the Cardinals, 76-65, as visitors on Dec. 8, just four days after outgunning Auburn, 84-78, in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Scheyer and his crew are now preparing their consistently improving Duke basketball machine for a road bout against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (14-4, 6-1 ACC), who received two AP Poll votes this week, at 4:30 p.m. ET Saturday (ESPN).

Stay tuned to Duke Blue Devils On SI for more Duke basketball news.

The Duke basketball squad, which has been dominating the competition all season, was dealt a surprising blow today as they inexplicably lost a first-place vote in the latest AP Top 25 poll.

Despite their impressive record and strong performances on the court, one voter decided to give their top vote to a different team, dropping Duke down to second place in the rankings.

Fans and analysts alike are scratching their heads at this decision, as Duke has been widely considered the top team in the country for most of the season. The Blue Devils have a star-studded lineup, led by standout freshman sensation Zion Williamson, and have been steamrolling their opponents with ease.

While losing a single first-place vote may not seem like a big deal in the grand scheme of things, it has certainly raised eyebrows and sparked debate among college basketball enthusiasts. Could this be a sign of doubt creeping in about Duke’s ability to maintain their dominance throughout the rest of the season?

Only time will tell if this lone first-place vote is an anomaly or a harbinger of things to come for the Duke basketball squad. Fans will be eagerly watching to see how the team responds to this unexpected setback and whether they can prove once again why they are considered one of the top teams in the nation.

  • MSNBC’s Biden interview loses out to comedy reruns in critical demo ratings

Despite extensive advertising and securing President Biden’s final television interview of his term, MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell’s interview ratings lost out in a major demographic to comedy shows and reruns on other platforms.

O’Donnell’s interview with Biden that took up the show’s hour drew 1.2 million total viewers and just 97,000 in the critical 25-54 age demographic.

Repeats of “Seinfeld,” “Family Guy”, “Friends,” “The Office,” as well as an episode of “South Park” were some of the shows that won over MSNBC’s interview with people between the ages of 25-54.

During the 10 p.m. ET hour, when O’Donnell’s interview with Biden aired, Fox News Channel commanded a 68% share of total cable news viewers and 71% among viewers between the ages of 25-54, while MSNBC had 23% and 15%, respectively.

Joe Biden and Lawrence O'Donnell split image

MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell interviewed President Biden last week in one of his final appearances before leaving office.

While O’Donnell was beaten out by multiple comedy shows among cable television viewers, his interview with Biden was more highly rated than the prior week.

Read On The Fox News App

O’Donnell’s ratings have dropped year-over-year from 2023-2024 with multiple age demographics, however. The ratings for “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” declined 5% in total viewers, 6% with people between 25-54 and 12% with ages 18-49 from 2023 to 2024.

O’Donnell’s show was also down 41% in total viewers, down 45% with A25-54 and down 38% with A18-49 from Dec. 2023 to Dec. 2024. O’Donnell was down 19% with total viewers, down 13% with ages 25-54 and down 85% with ages 18-49 from quarter 4 of 2023 to quarter 4 of 2024.

Lies About Biden’s Age, Health During His Presidency Is A ‘Scandal Of Epic Proportions,’ Scott Jennings Says

    Biden on MSNBC

President Biden discussed the legacy of his administration with MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell.

In 2024, Fox News Channel’s time slot rival to O’Donnell, “Gutfeld,” had an advantage of 69% in total viewers, and 152% higher ratings in the 25-54 age demo and 173% higher ratings in the 18-49 demo.

O’Donnell praised Biden throughout his interview with the president, telling him that he pulled off a “magic trick” by passing the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and combining “domestic and foreign policy” as president.

Original article source: MSNBC’s Biden interview loses out to comedy reruns in critical demo ratings

MSNBC’s highly anticipated interview with President Joe Biden failed to capture the attention of viewers in the critical 25-54 demographic, as the network lost out to comedy reruns in ratings.

Despite the buzz surrounding Biden’s first sit-down interview with MSNBC since taking office, the program failed to draw in younger viewers, with many opting to watch comedy reruns instead.

This disappointing outcome raises questions about MSNBC’s ability to attract a younger audience and maintain viewership in a competitive media landscape. As the network grapples with declining ratings, it will be interesting to see how they adapt their programming to appeal to a wider demographic.

  • Vučević meets the “norm” – Chicago loses, Denver can’t do without Jokić and Gordon

Nikola Vučević continues to meet this season’s high standards, but Chicago continues to lose – the Bulls recorded their third consecutive defeat, their second at home, despite new double-double performance by the Montenegrin center (14 points, 16 rebounds, four assists).

Atlanta won 110:94 despite the fact that they were without their most effective player, Trey Young.

Atlanta gained a key advantage with a 15:0 run at the start of the second quarter, when they led 42:27.

Keaton Wallace led the winning team with 27 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals. Dyson Daniels added 18 points and eight steals, while Onyeka Okongwa had another double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Bogdan Bogdanović scored three points (20/1 field goal shooting) and one assist in almost 10 minutes on the court.

For Chicago, Kobe White scored 16 points, with six assists, while Zach LaVine added one less point, with seven assists and six rebounds.

The Houston Rockets defeated Denver 128:108, recording their fifth consecutive triumph in the NBA.

Houston was in the lead throughout the match, with its biggest plus 24 scores on several occasions in the third and fourth quarters.

Nikola Jokić did not play for Denver due to an elbow injury, and Aaron Gordon did not play due to a calf injury.

Jaylen Green was the most efficient player for the Texas team with 34 points, along with five assists, Alperen Shengun added 20 points, along with nine rebounds and eight assists, while Fred VanVleet (eight assists) and Cam Whitmore (nine rebounds) each scored 16 points.

The home team’s best performers were Christian Brown and Jamal Murray with 22 points each, while Russell Westbrook scored 17 points.

Houston is in second place in the Western Conference with 27 wins and 12 losses, while Denver, after breaking a streak of four consecutive victories, is in fourth place with a score of 24/16.

The LA Lakers defeated Miami 117:108 at home, snapping a three-game losing streak.

Miami led 66:54 at halftime, but the home team went on a 15:4 run to take an 88:87 lead at the start of the fourth quarter.

The most convincing victory in franchise history was recorded by the Los Angeles Clippers, who defeated the Brooklyn Nets 126:67 on their home court.

It is also the most convincing defeat in the history of the Nets franchise, after the one in 1978, when New Jersey was defeated by Houston by 52 points.

In a surprising turn of events, Nikola Vučević met the “norm” in his first game with the Chicago Bulls, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to secure a win. Despite Vučević’s 26 points and 11 rebounds, the Bulls fell to the San Antonio Spurs.

Meanwhile, in Denver, the Nuggets were reminded of just how important Nikola Jokić and Aaron Gordon are to their team. Jokić put up a triple-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Gordon added 24 points in a crucial win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

It’s clear that both Vučević and Jokić are key players for their teams, and their performances will be instrumental as the season progresses.

  • Eagles Fan Loses Job at D.E.I. Firm After Misogynistic Attack on Packers Fan

A Philadelphia Eagles fan who spewed crude insults at a woman rooting for the visiting Green Bay Packers during Sunday’s wild-card playoff game lost his job this week at a New Jersey company that specializes in D.E.I. work because of his conduct, which was caught on a viral video.

The fan, whose name was not released by his former employer, BCT Partners, was also barred from future events at Lincoln Financial Field, the home stadium of the Eagles, a person briefed on the matter told The New York Times.

In the video, which was shared online early Monday by the woman’s fiancé and viewed more than 31 million times on X, the fan repeatedly called her a vulgar name and cursed at her during the Eagles’ opening-round 22-10 victory in the playoffs. The man was sitting in the upper deck, one row behind the couple, who were both wearing Packers jerseys and live outside Philadelphia.

The woman’s fiancé, Alexander Basara, a podcaster who focuses on the Packers, asked internet sleuths to help him to identify the man.

“What it’s like going to Philly just trying to root for your team…” he wrote. “Unprovoked, uncalled for. Packers twitter, help me out and find this guy…… this is not okay I hate that my fiancé had this happen simply cheering for her team.”

In a social media post late on Tuesday, BCT Partners, which is based in East Brunswick, N.J., wrote that it had “decided to part company” with the employee immediately after conducting an internal investigation into his actions at the game.

“We condemn our former employee’s conduct in the strongest possible terms,” the company wrote. “This individual’s conduct and language were vile, disgusting, unacceptable and horrific and have no place in our workplace and society. Such conduct is not who we are and what we stand for.”

Efforts to reach the fan involved in the episode by phone, email and text message on Wednesday were not immediately successful.

On the BCT Partners website, the company describes itself as minority-owned and “D.E.I. champions,” the abbreviation for diversity, equity and inclusion. The site states that the group’s corporate culture is guided by the “South African principle of Ubuntu, translated as ‘I am because we are’ or ‘humanity towards others.’”

The company offered an apology to the woman in the video and said that it was committed to gender equity.

The woman and her fiancé, Mr. Basara, did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Wednesday.

In an interview on Tuesday, the woman and Mr. Basara told NBC10 in Philadelphia that the man sitting behind them grew increasingly confrontational toward the end of the third quarter and started to insult her appearance.

“I think he attacked me more so because I am a woman and I’m not going to punch him in the face, or he didn’t feel threatened by me,” she said.

In a city known for being merciless to visiting sports fans — and where Santa Claus was once pelted with snowballs at halftime during an Eagles game in 1968 — the fan’s actions drew national attention.

It was not the first time this season in the National Football League that a fan’s misconduct made headlines.

In December, a Detroit Lions fan had his season tickets revoked by the team after getting into a shouting match with the Packers coach Matt LaFleur on the field before a game. The fan had been invited to help hold a giant American flag for the national anthem when he started taunting visiting players and coaches, including by making a throat-slashing gesture.

Also in December, the family of an 8-year-old cancer survivor attending a Buffalo Bills game said that they had left early after the girl, a fan of the San Francisco 49ers, the visitors that night, had been pushed by a fan of the home team.

    Kirsten Noyes contributed research.

Recently, an Eagles fan made headlines for all the wrong reasons after launching a misogynistic attack on a Packers fan. The incident took place at a D.E.I. (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) firm, where the Eagles fan was employed.

The Eagles fan, who has since been fired from the firm, directed a series of offensive and derogatory comments towards the Packers fan, including sexist remarks and threats of violence. The incident was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media, sparking outrage and condemnation from fans of both teams.

In a statement released by the D.E.I. firm, they expressed their disappointment and disgust at the behavior of the Eagles fan. They emphasized that such actions are completely antithetical to their values of promoting equality and respect for all individuals.

The Eagles fan has since issued a public apology for his actions, but the damage has been done. His employment at the D.E.I. firm has been terminated, and he faces backlash from both Eagles and Packers fans alike.

This incident serves as a reminder that sports rivalries should never escalate to the point of dehumanizing or attacking others. It is important to remember that at the end of the day, sports are meant to be a source of enjoyment and camaraderie, not a platform for hate and intolerance. Let’s strive to create a more inclusive and respectful sports culture for all fans, regardless of their team allegiance.

  • Australian Open 2025: Katie Boulter loses to Veronika Kudermetova in second round

Boulter came into the opening major of the season on the back of a fine 2024 in which she rose into the world’s top 25 for the first time.

A deep run at a Grand Slam tournament has continued to elude her, though, despite the benefit of being seeded at the French Open, Wimbledon, the US Open and now the Australian Open.

Before the tournament on the Melbourne hard courts, Boulter talked about “putting more emphasis” on performing well at the sport’s most prestigious events.

What looked to be a favourable draw enhanced the opportunity to achieve that.

But she admitted battling past Canada’s 98th-ranked Rebecca Marino in the first round was “stressful” and again looked subdued against another player ranked way below her.

“I was thinking straight the whole time. I just don’t think I quite played the way that I wanted to play,” said Boulter.

Boulter’s early exit is even tougher to take considering she arrived at Melbourne Park having started the season well.

Strong showings at the season-opening United Cup included pushing five-time major champion Iga Swiatek in a narrow defeat.

“Last week I’m going toe to toe with Swiatek. Your level doesn’t go anywhere from week to week,” Boulter added.

“It’s just about now being able to transfer that and keep going at it and making it more consistent.”

In a surprising turn of events at the Australian Open 2025, British tennis player Katie Boulter has been knocked out of the tournament in the second round by Russian player Veronika Kudermetova.

Boulter, who was a rising star in the tennis world, was unable to overcome Kudermetova’s powerful game and fell to a 6-4, 6-3 defeat. Despite putting up a valiant effort, Boulter was ultimately unable to match Kudermetova’s consistency and precision on the court.

This loss is undoubtedly a disappointing setback for Boulter, who had high hopes for a strong showing at this year’s Australian Open. However, it serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of the sport and the fierce competition that exists at the highest levels of tennis.

As for Kudermetova, this victory marks a significant milestone in her career and sets her up for a potentially deep run in the tournament. With her impressive performance against Boulter, she has proven herself as a force to be reckoned with on the court.

Stay tuned for more updates and results from the Australian Open 2025 as the tournament continues to unfold.

  • Gabe Vincent Never Loses Confidence In Jump Shot

Gabe Vincent’s first year with the Los Angeles Lakers was a difficult one as he was limited to just a handful of games due to knee injuries, never being able to find his rhythm.

After missing so much time, Vincent understandably started off this season slow as well. He has finally begun to come on in recent weeks though as in Vincent’s last 12 games, he is shooting 43.2% from 3-point range on 3.7 attempts.

With the team trading D’Angelo Russell, Vincent has needed to take on more of a scoring role and he has answered the bell. He had one of his best games against his former team on Wednesday night as the Lakers came back to beat the Miami Heat at home to snap a three-game losing streak.

Vincent finished with 14 points and four assists on 6-of-9 shooting off the bench and afterwards he discussed why his confidence in his jump shot never wavers.

“I think there’s a lot of noise around this game. I think there’s a lot of noise around this organization within this league. But I don’t think there’s anything I’ve done more in my life than shoot a basketball. So that’s gonna be the last thing I lose confidence on,” Vincent said.

“I’ve taken thousands and thousands of shots over the course of my career and I know I’m a good shooter. I know I’m capable of shooting the ball, I’ve made big shots in big games. I’ve missed shots too, that’s how the game goes. But the confidence itself never really wavers.”

The Lakers are still scouring the trade market to find another scoring and playmaking guard but if Vincent can play at this level consistently then there may not be as much of a need for that, allowing the front office to focus on other needs.

Gabe Vincent: Huge for Lakers to get back in win column

The Lakers went into their game against the Heat having lost three straight with two postponed games mixed in there. It had been a while since they felt the taste of a win, which added some significance according to Gabe Vincent.

“Huge. We had an extended amount of time off, it was like 12 days I think since we won a game and we only played like two games in that time. That’s like college where you have a game a week or two games a week. So very different for us, we’re used to playing every other day. That feeling of winning is everything. It’s kind of like a drug so to get that feeling back was great for our group,” Vincent said.
