House Republicans have vowed to get to the bottom of what really happened at the Jan. 6 insurrection. But Jimmy Kimmel isn’t buying it.
Kimmel explained during Thursday’s (Jan. 24) Live broadcast that the Republican-led Congress “is hard at work” uncovering the “mystery” of Jan. 6, despite the fact that Democrats already created a bipartisan committee to investigate the riot.
“In other words, get ready for a whole year of someone trying to convince us Nancy Pelosi pooped in her own desk,” Kimmel quipped.
The late night host also roasted the subcommittee for vowing to “uncover the full truth” about the Jan. 6 riot. “Yes, we need to get the full story of what happened there. Please, if anybody has any information of this globally televised event, you must come forward,” he teased.
House Republicans vowed to debunk the “false narratives peddled by the politically motivated January 6 Select Committee during the 117th Congress,” per a statement from House Speaker Mike Johnson. But Kimmel believed the most that would come out of the subcommittee is Jan. 6 becoming a national holiday, likely called “Patriotic Parkour Day.”
Kimmel seemed to believe there was no need for a new subcommittee to reinvestigate the riot, noting, “we know who is responsible for Jan. 6.”

“He’s sitting in the White House right now playing whack-a-mole with his Diet Coke button,” Kimmel joked.
The new subcommittee will also be led by Georgia Rep. Barry Loudermilk, who notably gave a tour of the Capitol to a rioter just a day before the insurrection.
The irony was not lost on Kimmel, who joked, “It’s like putting the Hamburglar in charge of finding out who stole all the Big Macs.”
Kimmel has made his feelings clear about Jan. 6 insurrectionists. He openly criticized President Trump for pardoning roughly 1,500 people who had been convicted in connection to the riot, noting some of these “simpletons” had previous criminal records.
“One of the guys had 38 previous convictions, 11 for violence or violent threats. Wasn’t Trump’s plan to remove the criminals from the general population?” he asked.
