Madonna dropped by the New York comedy club this weekend and performed a surprise comedy set.

The pop legend was brought to the club by her friend Amy Schumer, according to The Sun. An Instagram photo posted by Schumer shows her sitting next Madonna at a table with a sign reading, “This table is reserved for Comedy Cellar comedians only.”

A photo shared by The Sun appears to show Madonna on the stage in front of the establishment’s iconic brick wall. Per the outlet, a source said the artist’s set was 30 minutes long and that “she didn’t do as well as you’d think she would, she got laughs every time she dropped F-bomb, because just hearing Madonna curse is funny.”

The source also said, “She also nailed a joke about how with all of these Trump deportations she’s not going to have any staff left, which got some laughs, but really everyone was just so shocked she was there.” Oh, yikes.

On Tuesday, Madonna criticized President Donald Trump and his administration, slamming the president over his controversial executive orders issued during his first days in office. “It’s so sad to watch our new Government slowly dismantling all the Freedoms we have been fighting for and WON over the years,” the singer wrote on X, next to along with an emoji of a Pride flag and a broken heart. “Don’t give up the Fight!”

Back in November, Madonna also took to social media to express her anger after Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the presidential election. “Trying to get my head around why a convicted felon, rapist, bigot was chosen to lead our country because he’s good for the economy?,” she said in an Instagram story at the time. Madonna also posted a photo of a cake with icing that read, “Fuck Trump.”

  • Madonna trying standup is no joke: she’s a natural comedian and genuine kook | Madonna

New York’s famed Comedy Cellar has long been known as a testing ground for hot young talent. The Greenwich Village club hosted stand-ups like Ray Romano and Jon Stewart early in their careers, and although tourists now flock to the venue in the hope of seeing an A-lister do a surprise drop-in, young comics can still get their start there. Case in point: last weekend, Madonna did a set at the Comedy Cellar. You may be able to draw nearly 2 million people to Rio’s Copacabana beach for a concert, but in the cutthroat world of comedy, you still have to start from the bottom.

A report in the Sun said that Madonna tested out material for about 30 minutes, and that she was accompanied to the club by her friend Amy Schumer, who later went on Howard Stern to big up Madonna’s act. “She has something in her that’s interested in standup and she knows that, like anything else, you have to work really hard on it. She is kind of working on her set and it’s not cringey,” Schumer told Stern. “She’s funny! She’s got jokes. She’s got things to say. She’s got tea.”

This news was, like most news about Madonna, met with derision and scepticism from many corners of the internet. Some of these critiques are valid – from young comics, for example, complaining about a comedy dilettante getting coveted stage time at the snap of a finger – but most, sceptical about the idea that someone like Madonna could ever be funny, are less convincing. To be a fan of Madonna is to know that she is a genuine kook and, at the very least, someone who’s always been interested in using humour to puncture the sanctimonious, impenetrable vibe that most pop stars give off.

The press tour around Madonna’s turn in Evita and the album that followed, 1998’s Ray of Light, may have enshrined in the cultural memory the image of her as someone only willing to talk about spirituality and inner serenity, but really, that only lasted a few brief years. Madonna is rarely remembered as a great actor, but in films like Desperately Seeking Susan and A League of Their Own, Madonna is capable of seeming spunky, weird, and skin-crawlingly dry, often in the space of a single sentence, playing off co-stars Rosanna Arquette and Rosie O’Donnell, respectively, with the kind of over-the-top goofiness that only a true ham can muster.

Directly after Ray of Light, it seemed like Madonna was sick of being taken so seriously, and enlisted the most ridiculous of comedians to help her loosen up. Sacha Baron Cohen’s Ali G character was, amazingly, a key figure in the promotion of her 2000 album Music, appearing in the video for the title track and introducing her as Maradona on a European music show; a year earlier, she cut Beautiful Stranger, a song for Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, and seduced Powers at the end of the track’s music video. In moments like these, the line between outlandish comedy character and over-the-top pop star became thinner than ever.

Later in her career, comedy became a way for Madonna to communicate more directly with her fans and the public. In 2012, after being dogged for years by comparisons to Lady Gaga, Madonna incorporated a mashup of her track Express Yourself and Gaga’s very similar song Born This Way into the set list of her MDNA Tour, adding in the hook of She’s Not Me for good measure. A few years later, she appeared onstage in a full clown costume for a show in Melbourne titled Tears of a Clown, in which bawdy jokes cut the tension between acoustic renditions of sad deep cuts and Elliott Smith covers.

    skip past newsletter promotion

This is not to say Madonna has never been totally humourless – see: when she likened an album leak to rape – nor is it to say that she is always in on the joke; her tweets and Instagram captions, no matter how serious the topic, always end up reading like parodies of dadaist poetry. None of the above moments suggest that Madonna would make a particularly good standup, either – for proof, just check out the time she tested material on The Tonight Show. But you can never tell me she’s not funny. Who else would spend much of her three-hour greatest hits show speaking to a mannequin dressed to look like her?

Madonna trying standup is no joke: she’s a natural comedian and genuine kook

When you think of Madonna, you probably think of her legendary music career, iconic fashion sense, and boundary-pushing performances. But did you know that the Queen of Pop also has a hidden talent for standup comedy?

Recently, Madonna tried her hand at standup during a surprise appearance at a comedy club in New York City. And let me tell you, she had the audience in stitches from start to finish.

With her sharp wit, fearless attitude, and no-holds-barred approach to comedy, Madonna proved that she’s not just a musical powerhouse, but also a natural-born comedian. From poking fun at her own diva reputation to sharing hilarious anecdotes from her decades in show business, Madonna had the crowd eating out of the palm of her hand.

But what really sets Madonna apart as a comedian is her unabashed quirkiness and infectious energy. She’s not afraid to make fun of herself or take risks on stage, and her genuine kookiness only adds to her comedic charm.

So, next time you’re looking for a good laugh, don’t sleep on Madonna’s standup skills. She may be known for her music, but when it comes to comedy, she’s no joke.

  • What Madonna Has Said About Donald Trump

Pop star Madonna has directed criticism at President Donald Trump‘s administration days after he was inaugurated into office.

The singer, who supported former Vice President Kamala Harris in the recent election cycle, took to X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday to share her thoughts on the new government, which has been in place since Trump’s January 20 swearing in ceremony.

“It’s so sad to watch our new Government slowly dismantling all the Freedoms we have been fighting for and WON over the years,” the “Express Yourself” hitmaker wrote, alongside red heart and LGBTQ pride flag emojis. “Don’t give up the Fight!”

As of press time, the post has garnered more than 4 million views. Newsweek has contacted a representative of Trump via email for comment.

In the days since he has taken office, Trump has rolled out a plethora of executive orders aimed at transgender people, immigrants and climate change policies, among other things.

Madonna’s comments about Trump mark the latest in a number of remarks she has made about the returning president. Newsweek has taken a look at what the star has said about the onetime real estate mogul over the years.

    Dating Claims

Several years before Trump made his first presidential run in 2016, it was claimed that Madonna was one of the “important, beautiful women” who had expressed romantic interest in the former host of The Apprentice.

The claim was shared with People in 1991 by a “John Miller,” who was described as a publicist for Trump. At the time, veteran columnist Cindy Adams listened to a recording of the interview and declared: “There is no John Miller. That’s Donald.”

Madonna addressed the claims in a 2019 interview with The New York Times, telling the newspaper that she recalled speaking with Trump on the phone in Florida.

Left, Madonna is pictured on September 15, 2016 in London, England. Right, President Donald Trump is seen in Washington, D.C., on January 21, 2025.

“I did a Versace campaign with [photographer] Steven Meisel at his house in Palm Beach,” she said, adding that Trump called her on a number of occasions. “He kept going: ‘Hey, is everything OK? Finding yourself comfortable? Are the beds comfortable? Is everything good? Are you happy?’”

Per The New York Times, Madonna described Trump has having a “weak character,” attributing it to his public image as an alpha male.

“They’re overcompensating for how insecure they feel—a man who is secure with himself, a human who is secure with themselves, doesn’t have to go around bullying people all the time,” Madonna said.

At the time of the interview, Trump was more than halfway through his first term as president. Sharing her political views, Madonna said that some of themes explored on her album Madame X explored her anger over world leaders like Trump “who seemed to be systematically removing all of our personal freedoms.”

    ‘Heartbreak’

In December 2016, weeks after Trump defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the presidential election, Madonna shared her feelings on the outcome.

“It felt like someone died,” she told Billboard. “It felt like a combination of the heartbreak and betrayal you feel when someone you love more than anything leaves you, and also a death. I feel that way every morning; I wake up and say, ‘Oh, wait, Donald Trump is still the president,’ and it wasn’t a bad dream that I had.”

“It feels like women betrayed us,” Madonna continued. “The percentage of women who voted for Trump was insanely high.”

Madonna further said that she had “gotten into major arguments” with people who had backed Trump, adding: “In a way, it makes sense that Donald Trump is the president. Because money rules. Not intelligence, not experience, not a moral compass, not the ability to make wise decisions, not the ability to think of the future of the human race.”

Sharing that she planned to take action, the star said: “I’m trying to figure out my response to Trump. I like the idea that women are marching on Washington, D.C., the day after the inauguration. I want to rain on his parade. I was put on this earth to fight for the underdog and fight against discrimination.”

    ‘Charismatic’

On a personal note, Madonna said that while she “wouldn’t call [Trump] a friend or anything,” she had “certainly met him,” mentioning the Versace campaign she shot at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property in Florida.

“He’s a very friendly guy, charismatic in that boastful, macho, alpha-male way. I found his political incorrectness amusing,” she said of Trump. “Of course, I didn’t know he was going to be running for president 20 years later. People like that exist in the world, I’m OK with it. They just can’t be heads of state. I just can’t put him and [former President] Barack Obama in the same sentence, same room, same job description.”

The day after Trump first took office in 2017, Madonna sparked a backlash when she spoke at the anti-Trump Women’s March in Washington, D.C.

While addressing fellow protesters, the Michigan native said: “Yes, I’m angry. Yes, I am outraged. Yes, I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House. But I know that this won’t change anything.”

In turn, Trump called the singer “disgusting,” as an army of his supporters rushed to condemn the remarks.

In a since-deleted Instagram post, Madonna said that her comments had been taken “wildly out of context.”

“I am not a violent person, I do not promote violence and it’s important people hear and understand my speech in its entirety rather than one phrase,” she wrote.

She went on to explain that she had attempted to share that there are two choices when it comes to responding to Trump’s election victory—with anger or hope. Madonna shared that she wanted to start a “revolution of love.”

    Leaving Town

While Madonna didn’t name Trump directly, she told Vogue Italia in a 2018 interview that she had left the U.S. for Portugal, as she and her family “needed a change.”

“I wanted to get out of America for a minute—as you know, this is not America’s finest hour,” she explained.

In the days that followed the 2024 election, Madonna made it clear that she was unhappy with the result. Taking to Instagram, the mother of six shared a photo of a cake emblazoned with the words, “F*** Trump.”

A follow-up post shared on her Instagram Story alluded to the legal and civil trials that Trump had gone through, while also calling him a “bigot.”

“Trying to get my head around why a convicted felon, rapist, bigot was chosen to lead our country because he’s good for the economy?” Madonna wrote, per The Independent.

While Trump was last year found liable for sexually abusing and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll, neither verdict involved a finding of rape as defined under New York law.

Trump was last year ordered to pay Carroll $5 million after an initial lawsuit. In January, he was ordered to pay her $83.3 million on additional defamation claims. He is appealing both verdicts and has denied any wrongdoing.

Madonna, the iconic pop star known for her outspoken nature, has not been shy about sharing her thoughts on Donald Trump. From calling him a “white supremacist” to expressing her disbelief at his election as president, Madonna has not held back in her criticism of the controversial political figure.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in 2017, Madonna stated, “I like to believe that Trump was not elected by the majority of Americans, but that’s not the reality. He’s actually the president. It’s just incredible to me that we went from Barack Obama to someone like Donald Trump.”

Madonna has also taken to social media to voice her opinions on Trump, posting on Instagram in 2018, “I can’t believe this is happening in America. I wake up and I go, ‘Wait a second, what happened?’”

In a speech at the Women’s March in Washington D.C. in 2017, Madonna delivered a powerful message against Trump, stating, “Yes, I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House. But I know that this won’t change anything. We cannot fall into despair.”

Overall, Madonna’s statements about Donald Trump have been critical and passionate, reflecting her deep concerns about the state of politics in America.

  • Madonna slams Trump over executive order barring transgender military service

Pop star Madonna took a swipe at the Trump administration’s wave of executive orders with a social media message made in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.

“It’s so sad to watch our new Government slowly dismantling all the Freedoms we have been fighting for and WON over the years,” the 66-year-old singer wrote in an X post on Tuesday.

After adding a pride flag and broken heart emojis, she concluded the post by urging her fans, “Don’t give up the Fight!”

The “Material Girl” and “Vogue” singer’s post came hours after Trump signed an executive order titled “Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness,” which bars transgender Americans from serving in the military.

Last week, Trump also signed an executive order recognizing only two sexes – male and female – in all areas of the federal government, also mandating that the government adhere to biological sex rather than gender.

Conservatives lauded the move as a “return to common sense,” but critics met the decision with scrutiny.

Madonna, who has been an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ+ community in the past, was also an outspoken critic of Trump during his first term in office.

In 2017, she delivered a profanity-laced speech at the Women’s March in Washington, D.C., shortly after Trump assumed office for his first term.

Madonna slams Trump over executive order barring transgender military service

In a scathing Instagram post, pop icon Madonna has criticized President Trump for his recent executive order banning transgender individuals from serving in the military. The singer, known for her outspoken support of LGBTQ rights, called the decision “cruel and unjust” and accused the president of discriminating against a marginalized community.

Madonna went on to express her solidarity with transgender service members, stating that they deserve “the same rights and opportunities as anyone else.” She also urged her followers to speak out against the discriminatory policy and to stand up for equality and inclusivity.

The executive order, signed by Trump in August, has faced backlash from LGBTQ activists and civil rights groups, who argue that it is a blatant attack on transgender rights. Madonna’s powerful statement adds to the growing chorus of voices condemning the president’s decision and advocating for equality for all individuals, regardless of their gender identity.

  • Madonna Slams Trump Administration for “Slowly Dismantling All the Freedoms We Have Been Fighting For”

Madonna is slamming the Donald Trump administration for their slew of executive orders targeting marginalized groups.

The pop icon took to her X account (formerly Twitter) on Thursday to express her support for the LGBTQ community after the president, who returned to the White House last Monday, signed an order barring transgender people from serving and enlisting in the military.

    More from The Hollywood Reporter

“It’s so sad to watch our new Government slowly dismantling all the Freedoms we have been fighting for and WON over the years,” Madonna wrote, adding the LGBTQ pride flag and broken red heart emojis. “Don’t give up the Fight!”

On Monday, Trump signed a controversial executive order titled “Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness.” The order reinstates a policy from Trump’s first term and rescinds a 2021 order by Joe Biden that allowed trans people to enlist in the military and serve openly. The president has also rolled back diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility initiatives in his first week back in office.

The “Material Girl” singer has been a longtime advocate for the LGBTQ community, dating back to the 1980s, when she spoke out about the HIV/AIDS crisis and was fighting for gay rights. In 2019, Madonna was also honored with the Advocate for Change Award at the 30th annual GLAAD Media Awards.

Sarah Kate Ellis, the president and CEO of GLAAD, also wrote in a statement following Trump’s executive order, “Transgender people are already serving in the military with honor and keeping our country and military safer and stronger. They meet the same rigorous health and readiness standards, and continue to do so. The Trump administration’s inaccurate statements and rhetoric targeting transgender people are not based on facts. LGBTQ Americans have been here before, ending ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ and Trump’s previous trans military ban. Research and military experts have made it loud and clear that targeting service members because of who they are is blatantly discriminatory and makes our country less safe.”

Madonna isn’t the only celebrity condemning Trump’s aggressive new policies. In a since-deleted Instagram video, Selena Gomez got vulnerable over the deportation of undocumented immigrants. “All my people are getting attacked … the children. I don’t understand,” she said as tears streamed down her face. “I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”

Madonna Slams Trump Administration for “Slowly Dismantling All the Freedoms We Have Been Fighting For”

Madonna, the iconic singer and outspoken activist, has once again taken aim at the Trump administration for what she sees as a systematic erosion of the rights and freedoms that Americans have fought so hard to achieve.

In a recent interview, Madonna criticized President Trump and his administration for their handling of various social and political issues, including the treatment of immigrants, LGBTQ rights, and women’s rights. She accused the administration of slowly dismantling the progress that has been made in these areas over the years.

Madonna, who has never been one to shy away from controversy, has been a vocal critic of President Trump since he took office in 2017. She has used her platform to speak out against his policies and actions, and has urged her fans to stand up and fight for what they believe in.

The singer’s latest comments come at a time when tensions in the United States are running high, with many Americans feeling disillusioned and frustrated with the current political climate. Madonna’s words serve as a reminder that the fight for equality and justice is far from over, and that it is up to all of us to continue pushing for progress and positive change.

As Madonna herself put it, “We cannot let the actions of a few powerful individuals dictate the future of our country. We must stand together and fight for the freedoms that we hold dear.”

  • Madonna Recalls Fight to Adopt Daughter Mercy James in Tribute

Madonna is celebrating her daughter Mercy James’ 19th birthday with a heartfelt Instagram post reflecting on the challenges she faced during the adoption process. The Grammy-winning artist recalled Mercy’s early days in a Malawian orphanage and the 4.5-year legal battle it took to bring her home.

“Happy Birthday Chifundo-AKA-Mercy James! You are such a special soul,” Madonna shared, “When I met you, you were a tiny baby, underneath a mosquito net in an orphanage in Malawi. You were very sick with Malaria, but you pulled through. I whispered in your ear that I would do my best to give you a home as soon as possible.”

In the message, Madonna went on to explain the difficult battle she faced to adopt her daughter. While the singer already had a few children of her own — daughter Lourdes, son Rocco and in the process of adopting son David — she still faced difficulty bringing Mercy home.

“4 1/2 years later after battling with the Supreme Court in Malawi because they did not allow divorced women to adopt children. You came to live with us,” she continued. “You arrived with your hand in your mouth silent and refusing to speak. Who knew that you would grow up to be the kindest person with the biggest heart and the most infectious laugh.”

“You are the one that everyone goes to for advice, or a shoulder to cry on,” she continued. “You hold a special place in the heart of everyone that knows you. Especially me.

Inside Madonna’s adoption battle for Mercy James

Mercy was born in Malawi on Jan. 22, 2006, and her adoption was finalized on June 12, 2009, after initially being rejected a month prior. The singer opened up about this a few years ago.

I met Mercy soon after I met my son David, but they were living in different orphanages. David was in Mchinji in Home of Hope, and Mercy was here in Blantyre at Kondanani. Mercy was suffering from malaria, and David from pneumonia. And when I held each of them in my arms, I whispered in their ears, that I would look after them. And I promised them that they would grow up into strong and healthy adults…” Madonna shared back in 2017.

“But this time, the judge who was presiding said no,” she continued. “I was recently divorced, and she informed me, as a divorced woman, I was not fit to raise children, and that Mercy James was better off growing up in an orphanage.”

Madonna explained that despite the difficulties she faced trying to adopt Mercy, you have to persevere if you want to succeed, which is what she did during this trying time.

“I never gave up. And I never backed down. And I believe that if you want something badly enough in life, the universe will conspire to help you get it… But if you persevere, you will win.”

Following her battle to adopt Mercy, the Grammy winner went through the process of adopting yet again, to give a home to twins Stella and Estere in 2017.

In a heartfelt post on social media, Madonna opened up about the challenging journey she faced in adopting her daughter Mercy James. The pop icon shared how she fought tirelessly for the young girl’s adoption, navigating legal hurdles and facing criticism from skeptics.

Despite the obstacles, Madonna never gave up on her quest to give Mercy a loving home and a brighter future. In her tribute, Madonna expressed her admiration for Mercy’s strength and resilience, and how proud she is of the young woman she has become.

Madonna’s touching post serves as a reminder of the power of love and determination in creating a family, and the importance of fighting for what you believe in. It is a testament to the bond between mother and daughter, and a celebration of the beautiful journey they have shared together.

  • Julia Garner reveals all she knows about the status of the Madonna movie she is supposed to star in

Julia Garner made an appearance on the Today show on Wednesday, where she talked up her new film Wolf Man.

She was also asked about Madonna biopic rumors.

The 30-year-old Golden Globe-winning actress joined the morning program in a sleeveless, emerald green jumpsuit.

And her bottle-blonde crop of curly locks were set in her signature pixie style, reminiscent of the 66-year-old pop star’s trademark 1990s look.

Pressed by reporter Craig Melvin, Garner recalled joining Madonna in December 2023 during her Celebration tour.

‘We had fun on stage!’ she remembered while playing coy about the singer’s paused biopic, for which she was once intended to play the main character.

‘It was amazing. She’s amazing. It was an incredible experience,’ the Ozark star gushed while skirting the question of whether or not she is still working on the movie.

‘I wasn’t singing. I was just dancing with her, which was super fun,’ Julia told the morning show host.

As Melvin continued to pry about biopic details, she quipped, ‘I mean, you know as much as I do,’ before hinting that there could be more details in the future.

‘Maybe next time, when I come back,’ she teased before heading to Live! with Kelly and Mark as she continued her press day.

Madonna has been persistent in her years-long effort to have a movie about her life made.

In 2023 she got to work on a biopic called Who’s That Girl, a nod to her 1987 film and song of the same name.

The film was initially developed with Diablo Cody on board as co-writer of the screenplay, which was then titled Little Sparrow.

However, the hitmaker pivoted her focus to zero in on her international Celebration tour.

Then, last year the Michigan native penned most of the film with Erin Cressida Wilson, and eyed Garner to portray her.

Last November, Madonna used social media to air out her frustration over road blocks in her pursuit to bring her film to life.

She wrote on Instagram, ‘After struggling for days in LA, listening to producers and agents tell me why I couldn’t make my film, I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged.’

The renowned performer noted she had ‘been working on it for 4 years,’ with people insisting that she should ‘downsize, down scale, think smaller.’

The lengthy caption continued, ‘No easy rides for me. I guess I should be grateful.. It forces me to think outside the box. I did not have a normal life. I cannot make this in the normal way.’

But she explained that she felt a sense of renewed motivation after spending time with loved ones: ‘Spending time with my creative friends was just the fuel I needed to keep going!

‘We all agreed that we need to be even more fearless!!! Art =Survival We cannot shrink and make ourselves smaller. If you want something badly enough in life, the whole universe will conspire to help you get it.’

She then turned to her nearly 20 million followers to ask: ‘Should I make the story of my life into a series or a feature film?’

Julia Garner, the talented actress known for her roles in hit TV shows like Ozark and The Americans, has been making waves in the entertainment industry. One of the projects she is set to star in is the highly anticipated Madonna biopic. Fans have been eagerly awaiting updates on the status of the film, and Garner recently shared some exciting news.

In a recent interview, Garner revealed that the Madonna movie is still in the works and that she is very excited to be a part of it. She expressed her admiration for the iconic singer and her excitement to portray such a legendary figure on screen.

Garner also shared that she has been doing extensive research and preparation for the role, delving into Madonna’s life story and music to fully embody the character. She is dedicated to giving a true and authentic portrayal of the pop superstar.

While details about the film’s production timeline and release date are still forthcoming, fans can rest assured that Julia Garner is fully committed to bringing Madonna’s story to life in a compelling and captivating way. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated project!

  • Madonna posts poignant message honoring Martin Luther King Jr. as President Trump is sworn in for second term

Madonna posted a poignant message honoring Martin Luther King Jr. on the national holiday in his honor Monday, concurring with as President Donald Trump being sworn in for the second time in Washington, D.C.

The 66-year-old pop superstar took to Instagram with a series of images of King and text splayed across a clip of the 1963 March on Washington, expressing her resigned sentiments on the day.

‘I prefer to focus on what we have to be grateful for,’ said the Grammy-winning singer, whose full name is Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone. ‘Great leaders like Martin Luther King. Fearless Leaders that Truly fought for Love.

In a possible allusion to Trump, Madonna said that King did not stand for ‘separation or degradation or Violent threats of any kind to any people.’

The artist of hits including Vogue, Material Girl and Papa Don’t Preach wrapped up in saying, ‘Happy birthday M.L.K.!! We celebrate you and all that is good. It’s no coincidence that you birthday is on inauguration day.’

‘You are indeed, a King [and] a reminder that theme is still hope. Hope that with our collective Unified consciousness, we will have the merit to have great leaders like you in the future.

The pop superstar took to Instagram with a series of images of King, and text splayed across a clip of people marching, expressing her resigned sentiments on the day

The pop icon took to the social media platform as Trump was sworn in as 47th president, immediately inking executive orders overturning Biden administration mandates on issues including industrial regulations; DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) statutes; environmental policies; and the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Madonna has been outspoken about her distaste for Trump in the past on numerous occasions.

After his defeat of former Vice President Kamala Harris in November, Madonna said on the social media site: ‘Trying to get my head around why a convicted felon, rapist, bigot was chosen to lead our country because he’s good for the economy?’

She subsequently shared an image of a cake that was inscribed with the message, ‘F*** Trump,’ noting, ‘Stuffed my face with this cake last night!’

The musical mainstay spoke out as Trump drew many higher-profile entertainers to his side as his second term kicked off, as entertainers such as Carrie Underwood, Nelly, Snoop Dogg and The Village People were involved in inaugural events.

Eight years ago, Trump reportedly struggled to enlist stars to be part of the swearing-in and the various glitzy balls that followed as the entertainers to take the stage included America’s Got Talent alum Jackie Evancho, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Rockettes.

In 2017, the concurrent protest marches around the nation had more famous entertainers than the swearing-in, which stood in stark contrast to someone like Barack Obama, whose second inaugural ceremony had performances from Beyoncé, James Taylor and Kelly Clarkson and a series of starry onlookers.

There were always some celebrity Trump supporters, like Kid Rock, Hulk Hogan, Jon Voight, Rosanne Barr, Mike Tyson, Sylvester Stallone and Dennis Rodman, to name a few. But Trump´s victory this time around was decisive and while Hollywood may always skew largely liberal, the slate of names participating in his inauguration weekend events has improved.

Trump takes the oath of office as his wife Melania and his children look on during inauguration ceremonies in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol on January 20, 2025 in Washington, D.C.

Kid Rock, Billy Ray Cyrus, The Village People and Lee Greenwood all performed at a MAGA style rally Sunday. Those performing at inaugural balls include the rapper Nelly, country music band Rascal Flatts, country singer Jason Aldean and singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw.

Even some who have publicly criticized Trump in the past seem to have changed course: One of the highest-profile examples is the rapper Snoop Dogg, who in a 2017 music video pretended to shoot a Trump lookalike, and then this weekend performed at a pre-Inaugural event called The Crypto Ball

When a social media user posted a video of his performance, his name quickly became a trending topic on social media with a fair amount of disbelief and outrage.

Where Trump once emphasized the otherness of a Hollywood that largely shunned him, he´s now turned his attention back to the entertainment capital as a project to be saved. He named Stallone, Voight and Mel Gibson as his chosen ‘ambassadors’ for the mission.

Following the election, celebrity detractors have also been quieter than in 2017, when nationwide marches brought out the likes of Cher, Madonna, Katy Perry, Alicia Keys and Janelle Monae.

The People´s March in D.C. on Saturday did not boast about any celebrity participants. At the Golden Globe Awards in early January, Trump´s name was not mentioned on stage – a stark contrast to 2017, when Meryl Streep used her lifetime achievement award speech to decry the president-elect before his first term began.

As President Trump was sworn in for his second term, pop icon Madonna took to social media to share a poignant message honoring civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

In her post, Madonna reflected on the legacy of Dr. King and his fight for equality and justice for all. She emphasized the importance of continuing his work and standing up against discrimination and bigotry.

The timing of Madonna’s post, on the day of President Trump’s inauguration, was not lost on her followers. Many praised her for speaking out against the current political climate and for using her platform to promote love and unity.

As the country grapples with issues of racial injustice and division, Madonna’s message serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of standing up for what is right and working towards a more just and equitable society. Let us all take inspiration from the words of Dr. King and continue the fight for equality and justice for all. #MartinLutherKingJr #InaugurationDay #Madonna
