Shara Magomedov fought Michael Page at UFC Saudi Arabia with ‘nightmarish health condition’ in first statement
Shara Magomedov suffered his first career loss at UFC Saudi Arabia to Michael Page, but also says he was not at the peak of health.
“Bullet” dropped a unanimous decision to Page — who moved up from welterweight to take the contest — losing a pair of 30-27’s and a 29-28 on the judges’ scorecards. The speed, craftiness, and elusive movement seemed to throw Magomedov off throughout the fight, but following the loss, the 30-year-old released his first statement which he states he entered the fight with a bad health issue.
“The pirate sails into the harbor, but I will return,” Magomedov said.
“I knew all the risks when stepping in with such a nightmarish health condition and preparation. I felt that despite everything, I could still win—but it didn’t work out, and that’s it.
“Thank you to the UFC organization for this opportunity and to everyone involved. I wanted to put on a show and meet expectations without canceling the fight. Thank you to everyone who stands by me in any situation! Alhamdulillah.”
Magomedov didn’t reveal any specifics in regards to his health prior to the fight. Prior to the loss to Page, Magomedov earned decision wins over Michal Oleksiejczuk and Bruno Silva, along with stoppage wins over Antonio Trocoli, and in one of 2024’s best knockouts, Arman Petrosyan at UFC 308 in October.

Who will shoot a takedown during Saturday morning’s UFC Saudi Arabia fight between Michael “Venom” Page and Shara “Bullet” Magomedov?
It’s been a hot topic between the two strikers, who definitely have enough ground skills built up over their extensive careers to change the flow of the fight should they decide to use them. “MVP” has always excelled on the feet and struggled when opponents wrestled him to the canvas, so you’d think it was in Shara’s best interest to threaten takedowns. But the half-blind fighter says there’s no way that’s happening
“I’ve had twenty fights in MMA at this point, and I’ve never gone for a takedown,” he said during media day interviews. “I watched his fights. It doesn’t look like he goes for takedowns too much. But I’m going to be that person. I’m going to make ‘MVP’ be the first one to jump for a takedown.”
In response, Page has said he might go for a takedown, but it ain’t gonna be out of desperation.
“When I said it, I wasn’t talking about who was going to do it first,” Page clarified during his media day time. “I was simply saying he would. I can make him do it.”
“I’m happy to shoot a takedown. This is an MMA game,” he continued. “So, I’m happy to do it. I’ve been working on that area, but I don’t feel like I’ll need to. There’s a difference. I may get to a point where I feel like it may be worth draining him out on the floor a little bit, landing some shots, elbows on the floor. So I may do that, but I don’t think I’m going to need to.”
“Whereas, if he shoots a takedown, it’ll be for a completely different reason. If I do it, it’s just part of my game plan. If he does it, he’s in danger. That’s the difference.”
The takeaway here is this fight will be contested on the feet, which is exciting, not on the ground, which is boring. Not an outlook we agree on, but we’ve all seen those fights where the flashy high-flying striker gets pinned to the mat and dragged to a disappointing decision. We’re getting guarantees this won’t be one of those, and honestly? We’ll take it in this case.
Shara ‘Bullet’ Magomedov, the Russian MMA fighter known for his deadly accuracy in the cage, has made a surprising announcement ahead of his upcoming fight against Michael ‘Venom’ Page. In a recent interview, Magomedov stated that he has no intention of shooting against Page, despite his reputation as a master of striking.“I have the utmost respect for Michael Page and his skills as a striker,” Magomedov said. “I know that trying to outstrike him would be a dangerous game, so I have decided to stick to my own strengths in this fight.”
Magomedov’s decision to avoid shooting against Page is a bold move, considering that his wrestling and ground game are considered to be his greatest assets. However, Magomedov is confident that he can find a way to defeat Page without resorting to his usual tactics.
“I believe that I have what it takes to beat Page at his own game,” Magomedov declared. “I have been training hard and studying his style, and I am confident that I can outsmart him in the cage.”
Fans of both fighters are eagerly anticipating the showdown between Magomedov and Page, with many speculating on how the fight will play out. Will Magomedov be able to stick to his game plan and defeat Page without shooting, or will Page’s striking prowess prove to be too much for the Russian fighter to handle?
One thing is for certain – this fight is sure to be an exciting and unpredictable clash of styles. Stay tuned for updates on this highly anticipated matchup between two of the top fighters in the MMA world.

#Shara #Bullet #Magomedov #vows #shoot #Michael #Venom #PageMichael Page: If Shara Magomedov shoots takedowns at UFC Saudi Arabia, ‘he’s never going to hear the end of it’
Michael “Venom” Page heads into a big fight against the undefeated Shara Magomedov at a UFC Fight Night event in Saudi Arabia on Saturday. (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC) Michael Page will have his hands full with what should be one of the most exciting fights of his career at UFC Saudi Arabia this Saturday.
After 21 consecutive MMA fights at welterweight, “MVP” returns to the middleweight division for an important clash against the unbeaten Shara Magomedov, who’s 15-0 with four straight wins in the UFC.
It’s a fight Page requested, and one he fully expected to get once the UFC had a chance to consider his suggestion.
“It’s the ‘MVP’ effect,” Page said Wednesday on Uncrowned’s “The Ariel Helwani Show.” “I think if I put certain things over there, I think everyone just became excited with just the potential of that fight. I feel like I’ve got that style where the UFC will look at me and allow me to match up with any other good fighter anywhere, so it wasn’t surprising at all.”
Page, 37, has always been one of the longer and rangier fighters at welterweight, effectively using distance as a weapon with his karate-based striking. Making the cut to 170 pounds has never been too much of an issue, Page said, but the Magomedov matchup was mostly about landing a fun striking challenge.
Ultimately, a title at welterweight remains the primary target for Page. Since the Brit arrived in Bellator in 2014, he’s pursued gold in the division, coming close twice.
“I’ll definitely return to ’85 at some point, but the goal is always going to be 170,” Page said. “I want the belt at 170. I think it’s a great time in that division to really pursue and make big steps towards the belt. But as you say, every now and again, if there’s a great fight to be had, I may take some more pit stops.
“Unless it’s a really exciting fight, the next up is definitely 170.”
Page debuted in the UFC with an impressive win over Kevin Holland last March. (Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports) When he’s been dealt matchups with fellow striking specialists in the past, “MVP” has famously flourished and delivered some of the most exciting highlights in MMA history. Opponents have typically had to use a more grappling-heavy approach to beat him, though even that has left him with only three defeats in his 26-fight career.
Against a fellow flashy striker like Magomedov, Page doesn’t expect to do much wrestling — at least as part of the initial game plan.
“It’s exciting, it’s explosive, it’s dangerous, but there are patterns that I see,” Page said of Magomedov. “There are patterns that I’m going to look to exploit. My game tends to frustrate. So I’m going to try to incorporate the game plans that we’ve made specifically for him, and then go and go and do what MVP does best.
“I think he’s going to be [too] stubborn to shoot [takedowns], because if he shoots, he’s never going to hear the end of it. For the rest of his career, that one time ‘MVP’ made you shoot. So he’s going to be very stubborn, but again, it’s different when you’re taking damage and you feel like you need to just be safe, so it may happen.
“This is what made it so much more exciting to want to call out and want to want to make happen,” Page concluded. “So I’m just looking forward to this fight because I always put myself up there with any top striker.”
Michael Page, also known as “Venom,” is gearing up for his fight against Shara Magomedov at UFC Saudi Arabia. The welterweight contender has made it clear that if Magomedov attempts to shoot takedowns during their bout, he’s in for a world of taunting.Page, who is known for his flashy striking and unorthodox fighting style, has warned Magomedov that if he tries to take the fight to the ground, he “will never hear the end of it.” The British fighter is confident in his abilities to keep the fight standing and showcase his skills in front of a new audience in Saudi Arabia.
Fans can expect an exciting clash of styles when Page and Magomedov step into the octagon. Will Magomedov risk the wrath of Page by attempting takedowns, or will he try to stand and trade with the dynamic striker? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – if Magomedov goes for the takedown, he better be prepared for the consequences.

UFC main cards, 2024: 6-5Shara Magomedov vs. Michael Page UFC Fight Night 250 preview
Magomedov (15-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) puts his undefeated record on the line against a career welterweight. “Bullet” made three appearances in 2024, stopping Antonio Trocoli and Armen Petrosyan while also picking up a unanimous decision over Michal Oleksiejczuk. … Page (22-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) will move up to face an opponent seven years younger. “Venom” is .500 in the UFC, winning his debut against Kevin Holland by unanimous decision, but dropped his next decision to Ian Machado Garry.
Shara Magomedov vs. Michael Page UFC Fight Night 250 expert pick, prediction
The co-main event in Saudi Arabia features a striker’s delight at middleweight between Magomedov and Page.
Despite being a career welterweight, Page will be temporarily moving up to 185 pounds for a challenge he couldn’t refuse in Magomedov.
Between fight fans’ fetishization of fighters from Dagestan to the Hollywood interest “Bullet” gathers from his unique James Bond villain looks, Magomedov has acquired more glaze than anything you can buy at Voodoo Doughnuts after midnight.
Although Magomedov’s violent rap sheet continues to be conveniently overlooked in the praise he receives, there’s no denying the fight-to-fight improvements he’s showing as a martial artist.
In his last fight opposite Armen Petrosyan, Magomedov displayed an improved overall boxing presence – particularly in his lead hand. That said, Page can be a tricky customer to get a beat on and is very difficult to look good against.
A self-proclaimed snake charmer, Page will distract his opponents by making them look at the proverbial birdy before delivering pinpoint punches down the pike. And though Page traditionally competes at welterweight, his usual speed advantages and attributes could be amplified at middleweight.
Still, I suspect that the leg kicks of Magomedov will be the looming threat worth watching for in this fight.
At first glance, this should be a clear pick for Magomedov. Aside from the tactical and size advantages on paper, Magomedov is the younger fighter who is clearly being put in place to succeed.
That said, I can’t help but see Page’s experience, swagger and defensive savvy frustrating Magomedov and making him emotional. An impressive knockout on either side is on the table, but I’ll officially pick Page to somewhat surprisingly end up on the right side of the scorecards for a decision win.
