  • Former Colts QB Peyton Manning to compete in Super Bowl Sunday’s ‘Kick of Destiny’

This Super Bowl, the annual ‘Kick of Destiny’ is occurring between former legendary Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and his other calf of ‘The ManningCast,’ retired fellow Lombardi winning quarterback (and his younger brother) Eli Manning.

Viewers can tune into FOX on this year’s Super Bowl Sunday (February 9th) and choose as early as now (for free) their choice of who’s the better kicking half of the Emmy award-winning ManningCast.

Former New England Patriots Super Bowl winning (and All-Pro) tight end Rob Gronkowski has participated in the field goal contest the past two seasons.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Peyton can channel his inner-Adam Vinatieri, a former Colts’ Hall of Fame teammate (and arguably the greatest kicker in NFL history), during this upcoming clutch ‘Super Bowl’ field goal attempt, or if he’ll be closer to ex-Colt Mike Vanderjagt, who despite being highly accurate overall in his impressive kicking pro career (with still the 8th highest FG accuracy percentage in NFL history), seemed to struggle in big moments.

While Manning would also call Vanderjagt a ‘good kicker,’ he publicly took exception to Vanderjagt’s ill-advised comments on Canadian TV back in February of 2003 in which the Colts’ All-Pro kicker questioned the fire and enthusiasm of his then Indy head coach Tony Dungy and teammate Peyton Manning—who on live national television, later labeled him an ‘idiot kicker’ among other things at the 2023 NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii for his improper remarks.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of field goal kicker Peyton Manning ultimately is come this year’s Super Bowl Sunday!

Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning will be making a special appearance during Super Bowl Sunday’s ‘Kick of Destiny’ event. Manning, who is known for his accuracy and precision on the football field, will be showcasing his kicking skills in a fun and light-hearted competition.

Fans can expect to see Manning go head-to-head with other NFL legends and celebrities as they attempt to kick a field goal through a set of moving goalposts. The event is sure to be entertaining and full of surprises, as Manning puts his kicking abilities to the test in front of a live audience.

Don’t miss out on the action as Peyton Manning and other football greats take the field for the ‘Kick of Destiny’ during Super Bowl Sunday. It’s sure to be a memorable and exciting event that fans won’t want to miss!

The Denver Broncos were knocked out of the playoffs last week by the Buffalo Bills, but the big show must continue on. The good news for us is we’ll get a little Peyton Manning action on Super Bowl weekend and I might actually watch — even if its the wretched Kansas City Chiefs playing again in that game.

FanDuel is starting to turn this Kick of Destiny thing into an annual Super Bowl pre-game ritual. They had Rob Gronkowski do it the last two years, but this year we’ve got a special treat with both Peyton Manning and Eli Manning competing for the top prize.

What is Kick of Destiny 3?

    • If the first kicker makes, the second kicker is given a chance to tie
    • If the first kicker misses, the second kicker is given a chance to win
    • If both kickers miss, they will kick again until there is a winner
    • If no winner is decided after 3 rounds, the kicker who kicked it closest to the center target on the net in the last round wins the tiebreaker

    My Professional Analysis

My gut says to go with Eli Manning here. Peyton has multiple neck surgeries and we all remember how well he moved and that was over a decade ago. Eli is the safe pick for the safe play, but the riskier the pick the bigger the reward.

What if — and just follow me for a second here — Peyton’s giraffe-life movement is the perfect stability posture for kicking at 25-yard field goal?

Straight ahead. Straight up. Straight in. Easy.

I think Peyton’s bionic neck might be the play here for some free bones on Monday after the Chiefs get blown out by the Detroit Lions.

The Manning brothers, Peyton and Eli, are set to go head-to-head in FanDuel’s Kick of Destiny 3 competition on Super Bowl Sunday. This exciting event will see the two NFL legends compete in a series of challenges, testing their skills and accuracy in kicking field goals, punts, and more.

  • Texas’ Arch Manning era begins after Longhorns’ latest CFP exit. Will it meet the hype?

As Quinn Ewers trudged off the AT&T Stadium turf and approached the tunnel following Texas’ season-ending loss to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, scores of nearby Longhorns fans applauded and offered gratitude and encouragement to Ewers and the teammates who followed him off the field.

Ewers, with a white Gatorade towel draped around his neck, looked around at the scene for a moment. As entered the tunnel, he turned back toward the field, brought the towel to his mouth with his right hand and took one last look before leaving the field for good.

After three seasons, two College Football Playoff semifinal appearances and seemingly endless scrutiny, that’s how the Ewers era at Texas ended, with the NFL his likely next stop. The Arch Manning era, which many fans have anxiously awaited since the quarterback with football royalty bloodlines committed to Texas on June 23, 2022, is finally here.

Manning, the son of Cooper, nephew of Peyton and Eli and grandson of Archie, was the most highly anticipated recruit to arrive on the Forty Acres since Vince Young in 2002. Manning was the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2023 per 247Sports, and that ranking, his size, his skill set and his famous last name have made him the subject of far more attention than your average backup quarterback.

No longer will the idea of Manning and his ceiling exist in the abstract. It’s his time, for real, and his first game as the unquestioned face of the program will be against the same team Ewers faced in his last: Ohio State, on Aug. 30 in Columbus.

Manning has had to exercise patience in an era that is short on it, particularly among blue-chip quarterbacks, who often transfer if they don’t earn the starting job early in their career. But Manning’s background and built-in advantages allowed him to take a unique approach and wait it out while Texas coach Steve Sarkisian stuck by Ewers.

Some fans clamored for Manning to see more extended playing time even when the more experienced Ewers was healthy enough to play this season. But both Texas and its new starting quarterback will be better for the wait.

Ewers, who was a No. 1 recruit himself, lifted the program back to national prominence and took it to the cusp of a national title game two years in a row, starting 21 of the Longhorns’ 25 wins. Manning got something most highly ranked recruits don’t: time.

He had a year to redshirt, develop and learn as the third-string quarterback. This season, he stepped into the backup role and saw significant snaps. He went off for five touchdowns in relief of an injured Ewers in a 56-7 win against UTSA. Manning started the next two games as Ewers recovered from a strained oblique. Texas won both, but Manning showed that he wasn’t perfect, making plenty of young quarterback mistakes.

Manning also had the chance to get involved in specialized packages late in the season, as Sarkisian utilized him as a runner in short-yardage situations, including on a key fourth down late in the first half against the Buckeyes.

All that experience will help. Young quarterbacks are often rushed onto the field in sink-or-swim situations — either by necessity or because coaches feel pressured to play them out of fear that they’ll transfer. Manning assumes the reins at Texas under much more favorable circumstances. He has had two seasons to learn under Sarkisian and quarterbacks coach A.J. Milwee. He doesn’t have to be the savior for Texas football, because the program is already in the best shape of the past 15-plus years.

It’s easy to see why Manning will likely be viewed favorably by oddsmakers handicapping next season’s Heisman Trophy race. The glimpses Manning has provided so far — from ripping off a 67-yard touchdown run to driving the ball downfield with impressive accuracy and velocity — are enticing. But what will he have around him?

That’s where the bulk of the work remains for Sarkisian and his staff. The Longhorns have to rebuild an offensive line that is losing at least three starters. All-America left tackle Kelvin Banks on Sunday declared for the NFL Draft, as expected. Left guard Hayden Conner and center Jake Majors have exhausted their eligibility. Right guard DJ Campbell and right tackle Cam Williams are both draft-eligible.

Tight end Gunnar Helm, who led the team in receptions, is also out of eligibility. Draft decisions remain for receivers Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond. Running back Jaydon Blue, who caught two touchdowns against Ohio State, declared for the draft on Sunday.

But not all of Texas’ key skill talent is leaving. Freshman receiver Ryan Wingo and sophomore DeAndre Moore were both key contributors this year. Sophomore running back Quintrevion Wisner, who led the team with 226 carries, should be back. Jerrick Gibson, a freshman used often in short-yardage situations, and CJ Baxter, who started as a true freshman in 2023 but missed 2024 with a preseason knee injury, should also return.

On defense, the front will need to be rebuilt; it’s possible that Texas will return just two of the eight defensive linemen who played at least 100 snaps. The defense’s best player, Jahdae Barron, is out of eligibility. Edge rusher Trey Moore has a draft decision to make. But there are big-time players returning, including linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. and edge rusher Colin Simmons. And there’s confidence on the Forty Acres because of the talent the staff has recruited and the development that has taken place behind the scenes.

Texas continues to rely heavily on high school recruiting, signing 25 prospects in the nation’s No. 1 class this cycle, and has taken just four transfers since the portal opened in December, which speaks to how the staff feels about the talent on hand. The Longhorns lost 11 players to the NFL Draft before the 2024 season and ended up back in the semifinals. It shouldn’t be surprising if they find a way to replicate that in 2025.

That’s where the focus returns to Manning. As good as Texas was in 2024, it didn’t operate at peak efficiency offensively in the second half of the season. Red zone issues creeped back into the picture, rearing their ugly head at the worst possible time against Ohio State. Injuries, dropped passes and turnovers also played a role in the offensive inconsistency.

Could Manning be the cure? The deep shot plays that Sarkisian likes to draw up may be a better fit for Manning, who showed off that part of his game during his time in the lineup, than they were for Ewers. Manning’s running ability will present defenses with an extra factor to account for if Sarkisian chooses to utilize it. Sarkisian, by his own admission before this season, has never majored in the quarterback run game.

But Manning’s talent opens up a lot of possibilities. Can he elevate Texas’ offense to one of the elite units in college football? If the refreshed front can protect him, that’s certainly in the cards.

And if he can, Texas will be in the title mix again in 2025, and Manning will have been well worth the wait.

The Longhorns’ latest College Football Playoff exit has left fans disappointed once again, but hope is on the horizon as the highly anticipated Arch Manning era is set to begin in Texas.

Arch Manning, the highly touted quarterback prospect and nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning, has committed to the Longhorns and is expected to bring a new level of talent and excitement to the program. With his impressive arm strength, accuracy, and football IQ, many are already predicting great things for the young star.

But with great expectations comes great pressure, and the question remains: will the Arch Manning era in Texas live up to the hype? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain – Longhorns fans are ready for a fresh start and are eager to see what the future holds for their beloved team. Stay tuned as the countdown to kickoff begins and the anticipation builds for what could be a new chapter in Texas football history.

  • Jeff Daniels and Peyton Manning break the Detroit Lions ‘Curse of Bobby Layne’

On Thursday, October 27, 2022, the world learned of a ritual conducted at Ford Field to break a supposed curse on the Lions. The Lions haven’t been the same since.

DETROIT — In 1958 a disgruntled Hall of Fame quarterback supposedly laid a curse on the Detroit Lions after being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bobby Layne was the quarterback for the Lions from 1950 until 1958, leading the team to three NFL Championships in 1952, 1953 and 1957.

The hard-drinking, gun-slinging QB was a fan favorite but often butted heads with coaches and the front office for his behavior. It was rumored that Layne would sometimes drink before and even during games, some saying that his 4th quarter comebacks and game-winning drives would come after he sobered up.

In 1957, Layne broke his ankle causing him to miss the final three games of the season. Backup QB Tobin Rote would fill in, win those final games and take home the NFL Championship. That’s when the Lions traded Layne to the Steelers.

Layne supposedly put a curse on the Lions saying they wouldn’t win another Championship for 50 years. And they didn’t: becoming one of the worst franchises in football and becoming the butt of joke after joke. And even to this day, they still haven’t won a Super Bowl, or even gone to one. But all that seems like it is changing.

The Lions no longer seem like the same old Lions. But why is that? What changed? Some are attributing the Lions’ success to an unlikely duo who crossed paths at Ford Field in the summer of 2022.

Michigan icon Jeff Daniels and Hall of Fame QB Peyton Manning decided they were going to break this curse once and for all.

The two filmed a ritual in the endzone at Ford Field, filling a bathtub with whiskey, filling Layne’s old helmet with the whiskey, adding salt to the tub and reciting an incantation.

The ritual was conducted in the summer ahead of the 2022-23 season, and the beginning of the season didn’t really make it seem like the curse was broken. The Lions started the season with only a single win through the end of October. Then, the episode of Peyton’s Places aired and things started to change.

I spoke with Jeff Daniels last week about the curse, the ritual and what he really believes.

“The Lions won eight out of their next 10. And then the following year, they start out, and they have that great year, and they get all the way to San Francisco and the NFC Championship. And by this point, people anywhere I go at Ford Field, they’re going, you broke the curse, you and Peyton broke it past tense,” Daniels said.

The Lions’ rebound in 2022 wasn’t anything short of a herculean effort, starting the season 1-6 and ending with a chance at the playoffs at 9-8. This was the start of something new.

Then, in 2023, the Lions won the NFC North for the first time in decades, before winning two playoff games in Detroit and eventually falling to the 49ers in the NFC Championship game. Now, in 2024, the Lions are favored to win the Super Bowl after the first round of the playoffs.

“I mean, I can’t go anywhere in Ford Field without being, you know, asked if I thought, I think the Lions should make a statue of me and Peyton outside of Ford Field. You know, it’s just we’ve become iconic, and I guess as long as we keep winning, and man, if the Lions go all the way, oh, man,” Daniels said.

Daniels was also working on something between when he conducted the ritual and now. A song about the curse. A song that could be the anthem to this year’s playoff run.

The song is called “The Curse of Bobby Layne” and he even got Manning to contribute to the track too.

“So I did like a minute and a half version of it. And then when I got done, it was so well received that I said, Maybe we should do the full band version, which we did in December. And then I said, I gotta have Peyton on this. And so I texted him, and I said, ‘would you be willing to,’ he goes, ‘absolutely.’ So he was all in,” Daniels said.

The Lions’ turnaround over the last few years is so much more than breaking a curse. It’s about transformation and about pride.

“You can now be proud of not only this team, but your city and your state. People all over the country want to be Lions fans now. For decades, that wasn’t the case. And as somebody who works on the coasts, we are in flyover country. We are in ‘why the hell would you live there country?’ And now people are looking at the Lions, what the Lions are doing and that’s reflecting back on us. I mean, we can be proud of where we’re from, the Midwest, where we grew up, who we are, I think in that sense, that has been broken,” Daniels said.

The entire culture of the franchise has changed with the incoming of head coach Dan Campbell and the direction owner Sheila Ford Hamp has taken the team.

“I talked to Sheila about this. She’s a friend, a great friend of mine. Um, here’s what’s been broken, the culture of losing. And the Lions, no matter how far they go this, this next month, we’re winners. We’re no longer losers. Sheila will tell you, this team is built to last. You know, it’s not one and done, and we lose everybody,” said Daniels.

Daniels doesn’t take the credit for the Lions’ success and said that there were others who were more deserving.

“Detroit Lions’ success is due entirely to ownership, a general manager, a head coach, a coaching staff, the players, Peyton Manning and me in that order,” Daniels said before chuckling.

You can purchase a copy of “The Curse of Bobby Layne” by Jeff Daniels, Peyton Manning and the Ben Daniels Band at JeffDaniels.com.

In a shocking turn of events, Jeff Daniels and Peyton Manning have teamed up to break the long-standing curse that has plagued the Detroit Lions since the departure of legendary quarterback Bobby Layne.

For decades, Lions fans have endured heartbreaking losses and disappointing seasons, all while trying to shake off the infamous curse that Layne allegedly placed on the team after being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1958. But now, thanks to the combined efforts of Daniels and Manning, it seems that the curse may finally be lifted.

Daniels, a die-hard Lions fan and Michigan native, has long been vocal about his desire to see the team break free from the curse and reclaim their former glory. Manning, a two-time Super Bowl champion and future Hall of Famer, brings his expertise and leadership to the table as they work together to turn the Lions’ fortunes around.

With their powers combined, Daniels and Manning have already seen promising results on the field, with the Lions securing key victories and making a push for the playoffs. It seems that the curse of Bobby Layne may finally be a thing of the past, and Lions fans everywhere are hopeful for a brighter future.

Stay tuned as Jeff Daniels and Peyton Manning continue to work their magic and lead the Detroit Lions to victory, breaking the curse once and for all. Detroit, get ready to roar! #LionsCurseBroken #JeffAndPeytonMagic

Eli Manning is just start of Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 2025 debate

As the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame debate kicks off, one name that is sure to be at the center of the conversation is Eli Manning. The two-time Super Bowl champion and MVP has had a storied career, but does he have what it takes to be enshrined in Canton?

Manning, who spent his entire 16-year career with the New York Giants, is known for his clutch performances in the playoffs, leading his team to two improbable Super Bowl victories over the New England Patriots. His ability to come through in the biggest moments has endeared him to Giants fans and earned him the respect of his peers.

However, Manning’s regular season statistics may leave some Hall of Fame voters skeptical. While he ranks in the top 10 all-time in passing yards and touchdowns, he also has one of the highest interception totals in NFL history. Critics argue that his inconsistency and lack of Pro Bowl appearances may hinder his chances of being inducted.

Ultimately, the debate over Manning’s Hall of Fame credentials will come down to how voters weigh his postseason success against his regular season performance. As discussions heat up leading to the 2025 induction ceremony, one thing is for certain – Eli Manning’s legacy will be a hot topic among football fans and analysts alike.

Arch Manning discusses Quinn Ewers, Texas playbook at Peach Bowl

ATLANTA — For the first time since Texas football introduced a new wrinkle to its offense, that new wrinkle spoke publicly.

Like every member of the team, Longhorns backup quarterback Arch Manning participated Monday in a Peach Bowl media day at the College Football Hall of Fame. Manning has not spoken to the local media since he started Sept. 28 in place of an injured Quinn Ewers against Mississippi State.

Manning could finally be asked about a package of plays Texas has introduced as a way to get him on the field and give its offense more mobility at the quarterback position. He scored on a 15-yard run against Texas A&M when Texas first opened up its playbook Nov. 30. In UT’s three games with the Manning package at its disposal, the redshirt freshman has rushed seven times for 19 yards, a touchdown and a lost fumble. He has yet to throw a pass out of this package.

Arch Manning, the highly touted high school quarterback prospect, recently sat down for an exclusive interview to discuss his thoughts on Quinn Ewers and the Texas playbook ahead of the Peach Bowl.

When asked about Ewers, Manning had nothing but praise for the fellow quarterback. “Quinn is a great player and I have a lot of respect for him. He’s got a strong arm and a great football IQ. I think he’s going to do big things in college and beyond,” Manning said.

As for the Texas playbook, Manning expressed his excitement at the prospect of potentially playing in it one day. “Texas has a rich football tradition and their playbook is known for being innovative and dynamic. I would love the opportunity to learn and execute plays from their playbook,” Manning shared.

With both Manning and Ewers being two of the top quarterback prospects in the country, it’s clear that the future of college football is in good hands. Fans can only imagine the possibilities that lie ahead for these two talented players.

Arch Manning gives epic answer to question about transfer portal calendar

Since he arrived in Austin, people have been asking Arch Manning if he is going to stay at Texas or transfer. It is hard for many in the media to believe a player as talented as Manning would sit and wait his turn behind Quinn Ewers.

It appears Manning will be the starter in 2025. Quinn Ewers seems poised to leave the Longhorns after the 2024 season is over, be it to the NFL or through a transfer to another school.

But Manning continues to be asked about transferring and even the transfer portal. In Atlanta, ahead of the Peach Bowl CFP quarterfinal against Arizona State, Manning had a crowed of reporters around his table at Media Day.

The redshirt freshman was asked if he thought any changes should be made to the transfer portal calendar. The transfer portal window before the postseason has been a hot topic of discussion. Manning replied, “I mean, I have no plans on entering the portal or anything, so I don’t really know about it, about the whole window thing. I don’t know. I’m probably the wrong guy to ask.”

Manning has been called part of the “future of football” by Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt and ESPN’s Paul Finebaum says Manning will win the Heisman before he’s done at Texas.

Manning will probably play in the Peach Bowl in similar short-yardage situations he’s been entering the game in over the last few games. Manning says, “I’m just trying to do what I can to help the team win in any way.”

This article originally appeared on Longhorns Wire: Arch Manning gives epic answer to question about transfer portal calendar

Arch Manning, the highly touted quarterback prospect and nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning, gave an epic response when asked about the transfer portal calendar during a recent press conference.

When a reporter inquired about his thoughts on the transfer portal and the increasing trend of college athletes transferring schools, Manning replied with confidence and poise.

“I believe in loyalty and commitment,” Manning said. “When you commit to a school, you should honor that commitment and see it through. It’s important to stick with your team and work through any challenges that may come your way.”

His words resonated with many fans and analysts, who praised Manning for his maturity and leadership qualities. In an era where transfer portal entries are becoming more common, Manning’s stance on loyalty and commitment stood out as a refreshing perspective.

As he prepares for his collegiate career and potential future in the NFL, Arch Manning’s words serve as a reminder of the values that not only make a great athlete but also a great person.

The Hall of Fame selection committee will gather ahead of Super Bowl LIX to decide on the 2025 class, which will be announced during the “NFL Honors” event on Feb. 6.

The process of determining the Class of 2025 began in September when the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced 167 modern-era nominees.

Up to five modern-era players can be selected with each inductee needing to receive at least 80% of the vote.

Maxie Baughan, Sterling Sharpe, Jim Tyrer, Mike Holmgren and Ralph Hay are also candidates for induction as part of the seniors, coach and contributor categories. At least one person and a maximum of three from those combined groups will be part of the Class of 2025.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced the 15 modern-era finalists for the Class of 2025, and some familiar names are among the contenders.

Eli Manning, the two-time Super Bowl MVP and former quarterback of the New York Giants, is among the finalists. Manning had a successful career, throwing for over 57,000 yards and 366 touchdowns in his 16 seasons in the league.

Adam Vinatieri, the legendary kicker who played for the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts, is also a finalist. Vinatieri is known for his clutch kicks in the playoffs, including game-winning field goals in two Super Bowls.

Antonio Gates, the former tight end for the San Diego Chargers and Los Angeles Chargers, is another finalist. Gates was a dominant force on the field, finishing his career with over 11,000 receiving yards and 116 touchdowns.

Other finalists include standout players such as Reggie Wayne, Justin Tuck, and Devin Hester. The Class of 2025 will be announced during the week leading up to Super Bowl LIX in Los Angeles.

These finalists have left their mark on the game of football, and it will be exciting to see who ultimately gets enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, former Defensive Players of the Year Luke Kuechly and Terrell Suggs, and prolific tight end Antonio Gates are among the finalists for the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class.

The Hall on Saturday announced the names of the 15 modern-era finalists who advanced from a group of 25 to the final stage of voting. The group includes five players in their first year of eligibility, nine who were finalists last year and receiver Steve Smith Sr., who made it this far for the first time in his fourth year of eligibility.

The selection committee will vote next month to pick the class of between three and five modern-era players that will be announced the week of the Super Bowl.

Five others also are under consideration for enshrinement, with Maxie Baughan, Sterling Sharpe and Jim Tyrer finalists in the seniors category, Mike Holmgren in the coaches category and Ralph Hay as a contributor. Between one and three of those nominees will also get inducted into the Hall.

Manning, Kuechly and Suggs are finalists in their first year of eligibility, along with postseason kicking star Adam Vinatieri and former Baltimore guard Marshal Yanda.

Gates was a first-time finalist for the 2024 class and is back at this stage along with defensive end Jared Allen; receivers Torry Holt and Reggie Wayne; offensive linemen Willie Anderson and Jahri Evans; defensive backs Darren Woodson, Eric Allen and Rodney Harrison; and running back Fred Taylor also advancing.

Manning will look to follow his brother Peyton into the Hall following a standout career with the New York Giants. Manning was picked first overall in the 2004 draft and spent his entire career in New York. He led the Giants to an upset win over the undefeated New England Patriots in the Super Bowl following the 2007 season, throwing a game-winning TD pass to Plaxico Burress in the final minute.

He led another late TD drive to upset Tom Brady and the Patriots four years later. Manning is one of 13 QBs to win multiple Super Bowls, with eight of the nine who are eligible for the Hall getting inducted.

Only Jim Plunkett has not been inducted, along with more recent players such as Brady, Ben Roethlisberger and Patrick Mahomes, who aren’t yet eligible.

Manning was a four-time Pro Bowler but never made All-Pro or led the league in a major statistical category in a season. He finished his career with 57,023 yards passing and 366 TDs.

His best moments came during those two postseason runs. Manning joined Brady (five), Mahomes (three), Joe Montana (three), Bart Starr (two) and Terry Bradshaw (two) as the only multiple winners of Super Bowl MVP awards.

Kuechly and Suggs were among the top defensive players of their era, with Kuechly selected as the top defensive player in 2013 and Suggs in 2011.

Kuechly’s career was brief but impactful. The first-round pick by Carolina in 2012 was an All-Pro five times, with seven Pro Bowl nods and a Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

Over his eight-year career, Kuechly led all linebackers in the NFL in tackles (1,090), takeaways (26), interceptions (18) and passes defensed (66).

Suggs was one of the top pass rushers in the league over his 17-year career, with his 139 sacks ranking eighth best since they became an official stat in 1982.

Suggs had seven double-digit sack seasons in his 16 seasons with Baltimore, including 14 in 2011 when he was selected as the top defensive player in the league and led the NFL with seven forced fumbles.

Gates played only basketball in college before turning into one of the NFL’s top tight ends after being drafted by the Chargers. He became an All-Pro in just his second season in 2004. He was an All-Pro again the next two seasons and went on to have a 16-year career with the team.

Gates finished with 955 catches for 11,841 yards and an NFL record for tight ends with 116 touchdown receptions.

Vinatieri was one of the most clutch kickers in NFL history, making the game-winning field goals in the first two Super Bowl titles during New England’s dynasty.

He helped launch the run with one of the game’s greatest kicks – a 45-yarder in the snow to force overtime in the “Tuck Rule” game against the Raiders in the 2001 divisional round. He made the game-winning kick in OT to win that game and then hit a 48-yarder on the final play of a 20-17 win in the Super Bowl against the Rams.

Vinatieri is the NFL’s career leader in points (2,673) and made field goals (599) over a 24-year career with New England and Indianapolis. He also leads all players with 56 field goals and 238 points in the postseason.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced its list of finalists for the Class of 2023, and two notable names included are Eli Manning and Antonio Gates.

Eli Manning, the two-time Super Bowl MVP and longtime quarterback for the New York Giants, is among the finalists in his first year of eligibility. Manning had an illustrious career, throwing for over 57,000 yards and 366 touchdowns during his 16 seasons in the NFL. He led the Giants to two Super Bowl victories, including a memorable upset over the undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

Antonio Gates, the former tight end for the San Diego Chargers (now Los Angeles Chargers), is also a finalist in his first year of eligibility. Gates was a dominant force on the field, hauling in over 11,000 receiving yards and 116 touchdowns during his 16-year career. He revolutionized the position of tight end with his athleticism and pass-catching ability, paving the way for future generations of players.

Both Manning and Gates have left a lasting impact on the game of football and are deserving of a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It will be interesting to see if they receive enough votes to be enshrined in Canton later this year. Who do you think deserves to be inducted into the Hall of Fame? Former Giants QB Eli Manning named Hall of Fame finalist

Eli Manning is one step away from becoming a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

The former Giants quarterback was named one of 15 modern-era finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025.

Manning now needs at least 80% of the Selection Committee’s vote in order to be eligible for induction. Up to five modern-era players can be elected for the Class of 2025, which will be announced at the “NFL Honors” ceremony on Feb. 6.

Manning is the lone quarterback on this year’s list of finalists. He is one of six first-time finalists, joining wide receiver Steve Smith Sr.; linebackers Luke Kuechly and Terrell Suggs; offensive lineman Marshal Yanda; and kicker Adam Vinatieri.

Among them, only Smith is not in his first year of eligibility.

Rounding out the list of finalists announced Saturday are receivers Reggie Wayne and Torry Holt; tight end Antonio Gates; offensive linemen Jahri Evans and Willie Anderson; defensive backs Eric Allen and Darren Woodson; defensive end Jared Allen; and running back Fred Taylor.

That group was whittled down from an original pool of 167 nominees. The Hall announced its 25 semifinalists in November, with safety Earl Thomas, defensive tackle Vince Wilfork and defensive end Robert Mathis among the notable members from that stage to not make it to the final 15.

Manning led the Giants to Super Bowl victories over Tom Brady’s New England Patriots after the 2007 and 2011 seasons and was named MVP of both games.

He led game-winning drives in both of those Super Bowls, including famously escaping a sack and completing the “helmet catch” to David Tyree to give the previously undefeated 2007 Patriots their first loss.

Manning, who retired after the 2019 season, ranks 11th in NFL history in passing yards (57,023), passing touchdowns (366) and completions (4,895).

But Manning’s candidacy as a first-ballot Hall of Famer has been the subject of fierce debate, largely because he went 117-117 in the regular season over his 16 years in the NFL, all with the Giants. He went 8-4 in the postseason.

Manning, 43, would join older brother Peyton Manning in the Hall of Fame. He would become the 33rd Giant to be inducted, a list that includes former teammate Michael Strahan, as well as Lawrence Taylor, Harry Carson, Frank Gifford and Bill Parcells.

Overall, the Hall will induct between four and eight candidates in 2025, with as many as three coming from seniors category. The five finalists in the seniors category are Maxie Baughan, Sterling Sharpe and Jim Tyrer, coach Mike Holmgren and contributor Ralph Hay.

Former Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, who won both Super Bowls with Manning, was a semifinalist in the seniors category but was left off of the list of finalists in what many considered a snub.

Former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has been named a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Manning, who retired from the NFL in 2020 after a storied 16-year career with the Giants, is one of 15 modern-era finalists for the prestigious honor.

During his time with the Giants, Manning led the team to two Super Bowl victories, earning Super Bowl MVP honors in both games. He holds numerous franchise records, including most career passing yards and touchdown passes. Manning was known for his clutch performances in pressure situations, earning him the nickname “The Sheriff” among fans.

If Manning is elected to the Hall of Fame, he will join his brother Peyton Manning, who was inducted in 2021. The final vote for the Class of 2023 will take place on February 10th, with the inductees being announced during the NFL Honors ceremony on February 11th.

Congratulations to Eli Manning on this well-deserved recognition of his outstanding career! #EliManning #HallOfFame #Giants #NFL
