David Bonning Marr, 77 of DeWitt, Michigan, passed away on December 23, 2024.
Dave was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 31,1947 to Carl and Coralie Marr. He attended school in Birmingham and graduated from Cranbrook School in 1965. Dave attended Alma College and graduated in 1969, earning his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. He remained in close contact with his college friends from Alma throughout his life.
After moving to Denver, Colorado, Dave met the love of his life, Cathy Marr. They happily celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in June of 2024. Dave worked at Sony as a District Sales Manager, which led them to Minneapolis and Chicago, before retiring and moving to DeWitt, Michigan to be closer to family.
Throughout his life, Dave treasured summers spent with his family on Lake Michigan in Onekama, a place close to his heart. Dave’s greatest joy was supporting his loved ones in every way possible. He genuinely enjoyed family events and celebrations.
Dave especially loved attending East Lansing and DeWitt soccer, cross country, basketball, and football games. He could often be found on the sidelines capturing what he fondly called “action shots” with his camera.
Some of Dave’s charm came from his storytelling and life advice. He cared deeply about teaching the next generation and enriching the lives of his nieces and nephews, always encouraging them to embrace life’s opportunities and adventures.
Dave found happiness in life’s grand experiences, like trips abroad, and in simple pleasures, like feeding the squirrels in his yard. Both of which filled his heart.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in his memory.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Cathy, with whom he shared nearly five decades. He is also survived by his brother Richard Marr of Traverse City, sister Janet Adolphsen Caywood of Boise, Idaho; nieces and nephews Elizabeth Casaletto, Rich and Liana Marr, Ryan and Ellen Marr, and Peter Adolphsen; great nieces and nephews Veronica Marr, Wesley and Brooke Casaletto, Jillian, Vivien, and Anderson Marr; as well as extended family in Wisconsin and Florida. Dave was blessed with many great neighbors and friends. Dave is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Coralie Marr and his aunt Mardie Marr.
Dave would often share how lucky he felt. He valued time spent with family and the experiences they shared. Dave will be remembered for his thoughtfulness, generosity, and love for his family. He lived each day to the fullest, leaving a legacy of wisdom, support, and joy that will be cherished by all who knew him. Dave will be deeply missed.
