  • Georgia State Patrol investigating crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.


    SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – One person was injured after being hit by a car during a chase on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Savannah Friday morning.

    Georgia State Patrol says troopers were conducting a road check on West Bay Street at the intersection of Lathrop Avenue.

    At about 2:15 a.m., a black Ford Mustang approached the road check on West Bay Street. The driver immediately made a U-turn driving back towards downtown Savannah.

    Troopers left the road check to initiate a traffic stop on the Ford Mustang. As the Ford Mustang was driving east on West Bay Street, a different trooper was traveling west on West Bay Street near the intersection of Fahm Street.

    According to the trooper, the car was driving 54 mph in a 40-mph zone. That trooper also initiated a traffic stop on the Ford Mustang. The car did not stop and pursuit ensued south on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

    As the driver crossed the intersection of West 37th Street, the driver lost control of the car. The Ford Mustang struck the rear of a Toyota Tacoma. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma was ejected and is in critical condition.

    When the Ford Mustang came to a stop, troopers conducted a felony stop on the driver. The driver got out of the car and was arrested.

    Georgia State Patrol says it was determined that the driver of the Ford Mustang was under the influence of alcohol and was in possession of Marijuana.

    The investigation is ongoing.

  • Defense Agency Pauses Celebrations of Martin Luther King’s Birthday, Women’s History Month and Others


    The Pentagon’s intelligence agency has paused observances of Pride Month, Black History Month, Martin Luther King’s Birthday, Holocaust Days of Remembrance, Juneteenth and other annual cultural events, as federal agencies scramble to try to conform to President Trump’s repudiation of diversity programs.

    The Defense Intelligence Agency on Tuesday published a memo to its work force with a subject line of “Pause on Special Emphasis Programs and Related Activities and Events.”

    “We are receiving questions across the work force on the way forward,” the memo said. It added that the agency would “pause all activities and events related to Agency Special Emphasis Programs effective immediately and until further notice.”

    The agency’s pause is in effect “until further notice,” the memo said. It said that the directive would not affect the observance of federal holidays, so presumably agency employees would still get Martin Luther King’s Birthday and Juneteenth off, provided they remain federal holidays.

    The pause came as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Wednesday announced a new task force targeting diversity considerations in Pentagon promotions and job assignments, the latest maneuver in the Trump administration’s renunciation of “wokeness.”

    In a memo to senior Pentagon leadership, Mr. Hegseth said that diversity, equity and inclusion policies were “incompatible with the values” of the Defense Department.

    The task force must issue a final report on how to get rid of diversity programs by June 1, Mr. Hegseth said in the memo.

  • Why Marsai Martin can’t discuss her canceled Disney show ‘Saturdays’ without getting emotional


    When Marsai Martin launched her own series on the Disney Channel and Disney + in 2023 — and when it was canceled within the same year — she learned firsthand just how challenging it can be for Black-led shows to survive.

    During a recent appearance on Keke Palmer’s “Baby, This is Keke Palmer” podcast, the 20-year-old actress discussed what happened to the short-lived show “Saturdays.”

    “Girl, only God knows,” the “Black-ish” alum said initially when Palmer asked her what happened to the series, which debuted on the network in March 2023 with six episodes before it was canceled.

    “I think it’s because they never really know how to promote Black television or films,” Martin continued, adding, “It just kind of got overshadowed with a bunch of other projects in the lineup.”

    The show, executive produced by Martin along with Norman Vance, Jr., Nicole Dow, and Martin’s parents, Joshua and Carol Martin, followed a Black teen girl named Paris living in Chicago with her family and friends as they all just did their best to make it to Saturday nights at their favorite roller rink. The series starred Danielle Jalade in the lead role alongside Omar Gooding, Golden Brooks, Jermaine Harris, and Daria Johns.

    In 15 episodes, including a crossover with “Raven’s Home,” the show “Saturdays” quickly gained a fanbase among Black viewers and received favorable early reviews. While the “Little” star admitted she handled the cancellation well personally, she became emotional when she confessed she thought about how the cancellation could have impacted the show’s young Black stars.

    “I’m like, ‘OK, it is what it is,’” she said. “We know what happened. But, you know, I think that for our Black girls, our three main leads, that for this show to be like their breakthrough, in a sense, for being seen, I can never talk about it without getting emotional.

  • Martín Anselmi sobre Galeno: “Não podemos mudar o passado. Galeno é um grande jogador”


    Os dois penáltis desperdiçados por Galeno no encontro frente ao Santa Clara, que Martín Anselmi observou da bancada no Estádio do Dragão, foram discutidos na conferência de imprensa que precedeu o jogo do FC Porto contra o Maccabi Tel Aviv, agendado para esta quinta-feira (20:00), no âmbito da Liga Europa.

    O técnico argentino, ao afirmar que no futebol «tudo pode acontecer», elogiou o internacional brasileiro, que considera «um grande jogador».

    «Certamente, ninguém aprecia falhar um penálti ou um golo, mas estamos sujeitos a isso. Somos profissionais e temos de lidar com situações desconfortáveis. Quando conseguimos lidar com isso, avançamos. Devemos viver o presente, pois não temos a capacidade de alterar o passado», acrescentou.

    Anselmi elucidou ainda o motivo de, nos seus primeiros dias de trabalho, ter priorizado o aperfeiçoamento de aspetos defensivos, em detrimento das jogadas ofensivas.

    «A componente defensiva é mais controlável, pois depende em grande parte da concentração, de estar preparado para compreender o que o adversário faz, saber a quem devo marcar, como vamos recuperar e estar em conjunto. É mais uma questão de organização», afirmou, acrescentando que «a parte ofensiva depende mais do adversário e de como ele nos pretende defender».

    «Enquanto equipa técnica, temos grande apreço pela parte ofensiva, trabalhamos intensamente esta vertente e oferecemos várias soluções aos jogadores, mas temos atletas com capacidade para atacar eficazmente o adversário», concluiu o treinador.



    Martín Anselmi, treinador do time de futebol Galeno, falou sobre a importância de valorizar o histórico do jogador, mesmo diante de eventuais desafios.     Sikorsky Begins Black Hawk® Ground Runs with U.S. Army T901 Improved Turbine Engines

    Fundamental to Black Hawk modernization, the new GE Aerospace engine will boost aircraft performance and range

    WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Jan. 29, 2025 – Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company (NYSE: LMT), started its first-ever ground runs on a UH-60M Black Hawk® helicopter equipped with two GE Aerospace T901 Improved Turbine Engines (ITE). During this test, the T901 engine demonstrated its capabilities through a series of rigorous procedures. The initial light off and ground runs were executed by a combined U.S. Army and industry test team and operated by Army and Sikorsky pilots.

    “Soldiers will rely on Black Hawk helicopters well into the future, and upgrades to the aircraft today will pay dividends for decades, enabling new missions such as deploying and managing launched effects,” said Hamid Salim, vice president of Army and Air Force Systems at Sikorsky. “A modernized Black Hawk fleet will create new operational opportunities for the Army by extending the capabilities of a proven, fielded fleet to travel farther on less fuel and with more troops and cargo.”

    First flight of the ITE-equipped Black Hawk is anticipated this year.

    Progressing to First Flight

    The ground runs on the T901 ITE engines verified system functionality, engine health and test setup for an efficient testing process.

    The test demonstrated the T901’s start-to-fly progression, including idle and fly modes, with the rotor brake disengaged, marking a significant step toward the program’s goal of delivering a more powerful and efficient engine for the next-generation Black Hawk.

    The start-to-fly progression tests the functionality of the entire system, from the engine start sequence to the engagement of the main rotor to enable lift-off. The test team verifies that all critical systems, including fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and flight control systems, are functioning as expected.

    The successful ground test set the stage for more advanced testing, such as hover and forward flight tests.  

    A Modernized Black Hawk

    The T901 engine will increase the Black Hawk’s power by 50%, while also improving fuel efficiency and is a critical component of the roadmap to a modernized Black Hawk – a key part of Lockheed Martin’s 21st Century Security® vision.

    Sikorsky H-60M modernization efforts continue to be primarily focused on ITE, as well as Modular Open Systems Approach/digital backbone and Launched Effects. Digital innovations, such as a new sustainment digital twin, improve safety and mission readiness while reducing costly downtime and unscheduled maintenance. Since 2022, Sikorsky has demonstrated the ability to reduce pilot workload and increase safety by incorporating proven autonomy capability into Black Hawk.
