The four-time NBA Champion is averaging 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest while shooting 41.7% from the field and 39.6% from the three-point range in 41 games.
He has scored 20+ points in each of the previous two.

They are in the middle of a two-game winning streak (and 4-6 over their last ten).

NEW ORLEANS — While waiting for the buzzer to sound Feb. 6 at 2 p.m., Dallas Mavericks fans are wondering whether their favorite team will facilitate a deal.
In previous years, general manager Nico Harrison and the front office brass needed to be buyers or sellers to transform Dallas into a playoff contender.
The team’s many injuries have made it hard to evaluate this year’s iteration of the roster. The Mavericks (25-22), who are 3.5 games out of fourth place in the Western Conference, enter the final week before the deadline with a key question. Will they try to improve the roster with a trade or rely on their team as constructed to pursue another deep postseason run?
Dallas is loaded at the point guard position, highlighted by Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. When healthy, there’s plenty of depth at the center spot. That leaves a glaring hole at the wing position, which could use an upgrade.
Here’s a breakdown of the 15-man roster, with salary and contract information, to predict which Mavericks could be on the move over the next week.
Mavericks NBA trade deadline preview: Targets ranging from risky to reasonable Spencer Dinwiddie
Contract: $2 million owed this season. Will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Takeaway: Dinwiddie’s expiring contract could interest teams who are looking for a veteran secondary ballhandler. He’s skilled at drawing contact and has a streaky 3-point shot, but he’s still capable of setting the table for his teammates.
Luka Doncic
Contract: $43 million owed this season and eligible for a supermax extension this summer. Has a player option in 2026.

Takeaway: Grimes has been a surprising addition as a quality role player who contributes on both ends. He’s a knockdown shooter, evident in his career-high 40% 3-point mark, and can use his ballhandling to create shots for himself and his teammates. Grimes has the potential to be a reliable piece once the playoffs roll around. But depending on the trade, Grimes could be a sweetener to help the Mavericks move larger contracts.
Jaden Hardy
Contract: $2 million owed this season with a team option in 2027.
Takeaway: The Mavericks signed third-year guard Hardy to a three-year, $18 million deal at the beginning of the season, and he’s shown in spurts why he could be a valuable offensive piece. Despite a couple of ankle injuries, Hardy has played his way into the rotation, but it could get dicey if Exum returns to his form from last season. Takeaway: Irving’s off the board. The Mavericks are expected to negotiate a contract extension with the veteran guard this summer.
Maxi Kleber

Takeaway: If Kleber hadn’t fractured his right foot, the Mavericks would have had an easier time shopping his contract to other teams. He’s close to the final year, and that $11 million could be the baseline number for Dallas to attempt to match salaries for a young wing defender who would be an upgrade at the backup small forward/power forward spot. An injured player can still be traded, but the receiving team must be on board and willing to waive the requirement that a player pass his physical.

Takeaway: Lively has been an important part of the team since his rookie season, but he’s in position to be an integral piece of the franchise’s future. The second-year NBA Rising Star is sidelined with a stress fracture in his right foot, but he’s not going anywhere.
Naji Marshall
Contract: $8.6 million owed this season. Will be an unrestricted free agent in 2027.
Takeaway: Marshall presents an interesting case. Dallas signed him in the offseason for his versatility on offense and as a defensive presence to help fill the void left by Derrick Jones Jr. Marshall’s inside touch and toughness have been valuable at times, but there have been some inconsistent spells, partly because of illnesses and a four-game suspension. If the right teams are willing to offer Nico Harrison an intriguing package, Marshall could be a part of a deal to lure a lockdown defensive wing.
Markieff Morris
Contract: $2.1 million owed this season. Will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Takeaway: Much like last season, Morris’ role has been to provide a steady veteran presence. He has played in only seven games, including two of the last three. There could be an opportunity for the Mavericks to add a roster spot if Morris were to be traded, but it’s not likely they would move a player whose voice carries weight and who’s well-respected in the locker room and front office.
Dwight Powell
Contract: $4 million owed this year with a player option for 2025-26.
Takeaway: Powell, who joined the Mavericks in 2014, is the team’s longest-tenured player and is working his way back from a right hip strain. He’s typically called upon when Lively or Gafford are unavailable. With him being out for at least the next week, the Mavericks will rely on Gafford and several other players in spot minutes at the center position, including new two-way center Kylor Kelley. It can be risky to consider moving a player like Powell, who like Morris is an integral piece in the locker room.
Olivier-Maxence Prosper
Contract: $2.9 million owed this season. Will be a restricted free agent in 2027.
Takeaway: Prosper has shown promise in his second year in the NBA. The Mavericks’ bevy of injuries have allowed him to receive consistent minutes in coach Jason Kidd’s rotation. He’s coming off a career-high 20 points and provides depth at the wing position – one of the team’s weaknesses.
Klay Thompson
Contract: $15.9 million owed this year. Will be an unrestricted free agent in 2027.

The NBA trade deadline is less than a week away, and while there have only been a handful of trades made around the league so far this season, things are poised to pick up very quickly over the next seven days.
While the Dallas Mavericks have been known as one of the most active teams ahead of the trade deadline when it comes to calling around, rumors surrounding who they have shown interest in have been relatively thin outside of their “strong” interest in Herbert Jones of the New Orleans Pelicans. Nico Harrison keeps his cards close to his chest when it comes to what he is planning to do ahead of each year’s trade deadline, but it’s a given that he is always trying to improve the roster.
Harrison has made a move at the trade deadline every year that he has worked for the Mavericks, and this year could bring more of the same depending on what approach he decides to take. It’s clear that he isn’t going to make a trade to try to fix Dallas’ current injury issue, as Dallas has proven they are a top team in the NBA when they’re fully healthy, but there is one trade that could be on the table soon that would thrill Luka Doncic who has been out since Christmas Day with a calf strain.
Dallas could explore pairing Bogdanovic with Doncic
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Atlanta Hawks have been “actively exploring the trade market” (subscription required) when it comes to moving Bogdan Bogdanovic. Stein added that Bogdanovic still has “fans around the league” despite having a down year shooting the ball, and there have been “credible whispers this week that he could be on the move.”
Playing with Bogdanovic would likely be a dream come true for Doncic considering the close friendship they share, and Dallas could potentially convince Atlanta to deal him for a cheap price at some point over the next week. Bogdanovic is having a down year with the Hawks as he is posting career lows nearly across the entire board, but his skill as a shooter is undeniable, regardless of what the numbers this season say (30.1 percent from downtown on 6.1 attempts per game).
While Dallas’ priority seems to be adding frontcourt depth and or a lockdown perimeter defender, adding another shooter is not a bad idea. The Mavericks are ranked 12th in the NBA in 3-pointers made with 632 and ninth in the NBA in 3-point percentage, which are both respectable numbers, and adding Bogdanovic into the mix could help boost both of these numbers to the moon.
With the shot-creation abilities of Doncic, Bogdanovic would be getting some of the best looks of his career, and he’d be provided with a fresh start playing for the Mavericks. Playing next to Doncic has helped resurrect several different players’ careers when it comes to the shots that he creates for them, and the same could be said about Bogdanovic if the Mavericks make a move for him.
Bogdanovic is averaging 10.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 0.8 steals per game this season while shooting 37.1 percent from the field and 30.1 percent from three, and all of these numbers are way down from what he posted last season when he was in conversations of being one of the best bench players in the NBA. His 3-point shooting off the catch makes him someone that defenses always have to account for, and he would make Dallas’ bench even more deadly if he could improve his efficiency.
Dallas’ main priority should remain to add a perimeter defender, but if Atlanta ends up pushing hard to trade Boogdanovic, the opportunity may be too good for Dallas to pass up.
After this season, Bogdanovic is set to make $16 million next season before having a team option for $16 million for the 2026-27 season, and he could be a good investment if Dallas thinks they can get him playing like a Sixth Man of the Year candidate again.

Since Doncic strained his left calf during a Christmas Day loss to Minnesota, the Mavericks have gone 6-11. Dallas has fallen to a 26-22 record on the season, and now occupies the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. The Mavericks are just 2.5 games behind the fourth-seeded Nuggets, but also only lead the No. 11-seed Warriors by two games.
Last season, Dallas made two pivotal deadline deals, acquiring forward P.J. Washington and center Daniel Gafford. With the club’s frontcourt hugely improved, the Mavericks made a run all the way to the 2024 NBA Finals. This year, Curtis observes that Dallas has significantly more depth heading into the deadline, but has been waylaid by multiple injuries.
While Curtis doesn’t expect as active a deadline as in 2024, he’s skeptical that general manager Nico Harrison will fully stand pat and posits that Dallas could look to add a defense-first swingman.

- Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said on Wednesday that reserve guard Dante Exum, who has missed the entire season so far while recuperating from a right wrist surgery, is inching closer to a comeback, according to Curtis (Twitter link). “He’s trending in the right way,” Kidd said. “His wrist feels really good. He looks good. We’ll see how he does today/tomorrow. Hopefully that continues and we’ll get to see him sometime maybe on this trip. Maybe.” The Mavericks have four games remaining on their current five-game road trip.
- Two-way Mavericks big man Kylor Kelley spoke to Grant Afseth of Dallas Hoops Journal (subscriber exclusive) about his pro debut in a 130-108 Monday victory over Washington. “It was unreal, really. It was my first NBA regular season game,” the 27-year-old rookie told Afseth. “I had played one preseason game with L.A. back in October, but this was totally different. It was just awesome being out there. I wasn’t really feeling nervous, just excited, and had a lot of energy that I wanted to express on the court, and I thought I did that with the time that I got.” In eight minutes, Kelley score one point and grabbed four boards. He earned praise from Kidd for his efforts. “ I thought his activity and his talk… he was vocal for someone just to get here,” the Mavs’ coach said. “His voice could be heard on the floor, and that’s a great sign for a newcomer.”
- Following four-game absence, Mavericks reserve forward Naji Marshall returned from an illness for Dallas’ 137-136 victory over New Orleans on Wednesday. Playing his first game since January 20, he was held to a minutes restriction, Afseth tweets. In 15 minutes of action, the 6’7″ wing scored five points on 2-of-5 shooting from the floor.

After keeping Mavericks afloat, gutsy Kyrie Irving deserves better than All-Star snub
As complaints about All-Star snubs go, Mark Cuban’s “NBA gonna NBA” wasn’t as pointed as Devin Booker’s charge that it’s “an entertainment, drama, political league,” but it’s pithier. Probably doesn’t rise to the level of a fine. And not because Cuban, first in league history in fines, is just a minority owner these days.
You can still get busted even if you’re not calling the shots anymore, though it probably takes all the fun out of it.
Anyway, Cuban was at least half right when he tweeted it was “JUST INSANE” that neither Luka Doncic nor Kyrie Irving made the All-Star team, shutting out the Mavs in the process.
Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving misses out on All-Star nod despite career-year in efficiency The facts are that Luka doesn’t really have a complaint coming. He’s only played 22 games because of a bad calf, and it’s questionable whether he’ll be back before the game on Valentine’s Day weekend.
Then again, if he was just going to stroll through his All-Star appearance as usual, maybe he’s good to go now.
But Kyrie getting stiffed as an All-Star? Who counted the coaches’ votes?
The Nets?
Kyrie’s old team might be justified holding a grudge after seeing how he’s played since the deadline deal two years ago. Not only did he help the Mavs to the NBA Finals last season, he’s been a model citizen since forcing his way out of Brooklyn. Makes it all the worse for the Nets considering how the trade worked out on their side.
Brooklyn got Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, two second-round picks and a first in 2029. The Nets may yet make something out of all the seconds they’ve accumulated in deals involving those principals. As it stands, all they’ve got is D’Angelo Russell.
D-Lo is a nice player, but he’s no Hall of Famer.
Explains what Kyrie meant when asked about the deal after scoring 25 points in the Mavs’ 106-98 win over Oklahoma City a couple weeks ago.
“Best trade in the business, baby,” he told reporters. “We won that trade.
“I was bad goods.”
Some of us may have implied the latter point two years ago, and for good reason. Kyrie’s reputation had taken a major hit on and off the court. But, in the culture created and nurtured by Nico Harrison and Jason Kidd, he’s not only played at an All-Star level, he’s been the Mavs’ unquestioned leader.

You’d think a guy who’s keeping the reigning Western Conference champs afloat with exceptional numbers would get the benefit of the doubt with coaches.
Not so much, it turns out.
Before we go any further, here’s how it works: Once fans, media and players vote on two backcourt players and three frontcourt, with fans counting 50% and the players and media splitting the other half, head coaches pick seven reserves.
In the West, they went with Anthony Edwards and James Harden, the only guards, and Anthony Davis, Jaren Jackson Jr., Victor Wembanyama, Alpheren Sengun and Jalen Williams. Because it’s hard divvying up so many great players among so few spots, coaches give added weight to players from good teams.
Which is why the deeper West has just two teams with multiple representatives (Oklahoma City and the Lakers) while 75% of the East’s roster comes from Cleveland, Boston, Milwaukee and the Knicks.
Team record explains why the Hornets’ LaMelo Ball, who led all players in the fan vote, didn’t make the team even though he’s the league’s fourth-leading scorer. Domantas Sabonis (21.0 points, 14.6 rebounds, 6.5 assists) got hosed again because he plays for the Kings. Same with South Garland’s Tyrese Maxey in Philadelphia, Trae Young in Atlanta and Booker in Phoenix.
Young’s defensive rating as a turnstile doesn’t help, either.
No arguments here with most of the choices in the West. But there was still a way to include Kyrie.
For one thing, Harden’s numbers (21.7 points, 8.4 assists, 5.8 rebounds, 35.3% on 3s, 4.6 turnovers, 3.9 win shares) aren’t as good overall as Irving’s (24.2 points, 4.9 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 41.9% on 3s, 2.3 turnovers, 4.1 win shares) going into Friday’s game. The difference in the coaches’ minds, apparently, is that the Clippers’ record is better, so Harden gets the nod.
Not a good enough reason, but a better one than giving the Thunder a second rep.
Williams is a good player, but OKC has a lot of good players. Once Chet Holmgren returns, it’ll have its second-best one. This should tell you where the coaches got it wrong in picking the reserves.
Giving OKC’s third-best player its second spot on the All-Star team while denying the Mavs and their second-best player seems like bad math.
Especially considering the Mavs are 3-1 against the Thunder this season.
For the record: This isn’t the first time the Mavs whiffed as All-Stars. Happened all the time in the ‘80s, ‘90s and last decade. First, Dirk Nowitzki almost singlehandedly changed the perception of the Mavs for the better, then Luka picked up where he left off. Time for everyone to realize the Mavs aren’t a one-horse team anymore.

Kyrie Irving has been a key contributor to the success of the Dallas Mavericks this season, stepping up in the absence of injured star Luka Doncic. Mavericks stars Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic not selected to 2025 NBA All-Star Game
The NBA released the reserves for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game on Thursday evening. For the first time since his rookie season, Luka Doncic is not an All-Star. Neither is Kyrie Irving, who misses out on the All-Star Game for the second straight season.
Injuries have hampered the Dallas Mavericks superstar, as he’s played in just 22 games this season thanks to a litany of ailments, including a calf strain he suffered on Christmas Day against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He hasn’t played since then, costing him his sixth-straight All-Star selection, but he should be returning in the next few weeks.
Irving, meanwhile, has had a tremendous season, averaging 24.2 PPG, 4.9 APG, and 4.6 RPG while nearly shooting 50/40/90. He’s played in the majority of the Mavericks’ games and has helped keep the team afloat, but the coaches felt differently. He’s still waiting to make an All-Star appearance as a Maverick; he technically made one in 2023, soon after being traded to Dallas, but most of his production came with the Brooklyn Nets. He’s an eight-time All-Star in his career.
Doncic got off to a slow start to the season by his standards but had rebounded to still be averaging 28.1 PPG, 8.3 RPG, and 7.8 APG before going down on Christmas. His numbers are All-Star worthy, and if the initial starter ballots were still the deciding factor, he likely would’ve been in, as he finished third among Western Conference guards in voting. The starters are weighted from 50% of the fan vote, 25% of the player vote, and 25% of the vote from a media pool. All-Star reserves are selected entirely by the NBA coaches.

He got off to a torrid pace in his NBA career, making five consecutive All-NBA First-Teams starting from his second season in the NBA, one of few players in NBA history to do so. He likely would’ve been on pace to make another First Team before the injuries, and the NBA’s new 65-game requirement disqualified Doncic for any awards at the end of the season.
But if Doncic returns soon and helps the Mavericks make another late regular-season run with a deep push into the playoffs, all will be forgiven. Doncic entered the season as the favorite to win the MVP, but he said his only goal was to be healthy in the playoffs so he could help bring a championship to Dallas as Dirk Nowitzki did before him.

The 2025 NBA All-Star Game rosters have been announced, and to the surprise of many fans, Mavericks stars Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic have not been selected to participate in the highly anticipated event.Despite their impressive performances throughout the season, Irving and Doncic were unfortunately left off the roster, leading to disappointment among Mavericks fans and supporters of the two talented players.

A return to the Smoothie King Center wasn’t enough to get the New Orleans Pelicans back on the winning track.
Big games from Zion Williamson and Trey Murphy weren’t enough, either.
A night CJ McCollum entered the franchise record book wasn’t enough, either.
McCollum’s 3-pointer in the final seconds made him the Pels’ all-time leader from deep, but it was too little too late.
After a rough road trip, the Pelicans’ losing ways continued with a 137-136 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday.
Williamson finished with 29 points, proving Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd right in what he said before the game started.
“That one guy can’t be guarded by one person,” Kidd said. “It’ll be a real test for our group.”
Williamson shot 11 of 17 from the floor and got help from Trey Murphy, who knocked down five 3-pointers and finished with 32 points.
It was the fourth straight loss for the Pelicans (12-36), an about-face from where the team was last week when it won four straight for the first time this season. The Pelicans dropped to 1-2 this season against the Mavs (26-22).
Dallas handed New Orleans its worst loss of the season in November, a 41-point thumping at American Airlines Center. The Pelicans avenged that loss two weeks ago in a game that was sealed by a Murphy blocked shot in the final seconds.
This one also came down to the end. Dejounte Murray’s 3-pointer with 15.9 seconds left closed the gap to 136-133. Dallas’ Spencer Dinwiddie, who had his shot blocked by Murphy in the last game, split a pair of free throws. McCollum’s late trey was the final basket.
McCollum entered the record books, hitting a 3-pointer at the final buzzer to break the franchise record for 3-pointers made. It was the 627th 3-pointer since McCollum arrived in New Orleans three years ago. He passed Jrue Holiday, who made 626 in his seven seasons in New Orleans.
“CJ’s a professional on all levels of what a professional should look like,” Pelicans coach Willie Green said before the game. “Off the floor, he’s incredible. In the community, he’s incredible. With his teammates and with his staff on the floor, he’s very consistent with what he puts in from the time he walks in the building. … All the credit goes to him and all the work that he puts in.”
The Pelicans will try to end their skid Friday at home against the Boston Celtics.

NEW ORLEANS – After months of hearing about “next man up,” the Mavericks are now living proof that the concept works.
Especially for Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington, who were already strong players but have leveled up with so many injuries opening up opportunities for them.
Both players came through with big games and clutch fourth quarters as the Mavericks were able to grind out a 137-136 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans Wednesday night at Smoothie King Center, starting the longest trip of the season with a well-rounded performance.
A city bracing for the hysteria that comes with next week’s Super Bowl extravaganza hasn’t exactly fallen in love with these Pelicans. The crowd was small and cozy. But it didn’t show with the teams, who put on an entertaining show.
The Mavericks avenged the 119-116 loss the Pelicans handed them two weeks ago. They are now 2-1 this season against New Orleans with a final meeting on Feb. 21, the first game after the All-Star break.
The Mavericks were down 101-100 early in the fourth quarter, but then started scoring in threes. Klay Thompson and P.J. Washington both dropped in two three-pointers and Daniel Gafford had a pair of old-fashioned three-point plays as the Mavericks went on a 20-10 tear to open up a 120-111 advantage.
When the Pelicans got within 122-118, Washington drilled another triple with 2:48 to go to send the Mavericks on their way. At least until Dejounte Murray’s three-pointer with 15 seconds got the Mavericks’ attention and the Pelicans within 136-133. But Spencer Dinwiddie canned the second of two free throws with 11.4 to go to make it a two-score game. A three-pointer by C.J. McCollum with 0.2 seconds left did not matter as the Mavericks improved to 26-22. The Pelicans did not play like a team that fell to 12-36.
Washington, who has been a rebounding demon for the last two weeks, had 25 points and 14 rebounds. He didn’t miss a triple-double by much as he also had eight assists.
Gafford had 22 points and 12 rebounds as he continued to pick up the slack left by Dereck Lively II’s ankle injury.
Kyrie Irving wasn’t bad either with 25 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
The Mavericks couldn’t shake the Pelicans through the first half when neither team led by more than seven points and the Mavericks actually trailed at the break 63-57 when they gave up the final six points, including a couple of dunks by Trey Murphy that brought a little life to a crowd that could only be described as tiny at cavernous Smoothie King Center.
Good sections were available in the upper deck.
With the Super Bowl coming on Feb. 9 to the Superdome next door, many streets are closed off around the Pelicans’ arena, making it a challenge for fans logistically.
The ones that stayed away missed an entertaining night that featured strong play from Zion Williamson and a big night from P.J. Washington, who was a point and a rebound away from a double-double in the first half, which he collected quickly when the third quarter started.
The Mavericks knew they had let the first half get away from them and came out in the third quarter with a better aggression. But that push came to a halt midway into the period when the Mavericks couldn’t score. The Pelicans pulled ahead 86-79 with a 13-3 surge.
And they still were up 101-100 with 10:28 to go after a Jose Alvarado three-pointer that juiced up the crowd.
But the Mavericks were loading up a big finish.
