  • 10 Biggest Differences Between The Hulk & Red Hulk In The MCU To Know Before Captain America: Brave New World

The Red Hulk will show off his many differences to Bruce Banner’s Hulk in the MCU when he makes his official debut in Captain America: Brave New World. Bruce Banner’s Hulk has been at the core of the MCU since his first appearance in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, but Marvel Studios has also recently introduced many other Hulk-like characters to the MCU. This pattern, that has seen the debut of She-Hulk, Abomination, Freak, Skaar and more, will continue in 2025’s Captain America: Brave New World with the debut of the Red Hulk.

Harrison Ford will be taking over from the late William Hurt in Captain America: Brave New World to play Thaddeus Ross, the former General who will now be depicted as the new President of the United States. Captain America: Brave New World will explore Thaddeus Ross’ much-anticipated transformation into the Red Hulk, inspired by his Marvel Comics story from 2008. Based on Marvel Comics and Captain America: Brave New World’s trailers, however, this new Hulk will be vastly different to Mark Ruffalo’s version of the original Avenger.

    10

Red Hulk’s Different Color Has Spurred MCU Theories

Red Hulk Could Be Connected To Another MCU Villain

Perhaps the most physically obvious differences between the Hulk and the Red Hulk is the fact that the latter is red-skinned, while Bruce Banner has green skin when in his Hulk form. Banner’s color change reflects the gamma radiation in his blood, which has also been depicted in other characters who have been exposed to Banner’s blood, such as Emil Blonsky, Jennifer Walters and Samuel Sterns’ Leader. However, this is not the case for the Red Hulk, which has spurred theories as to how he has red skin when other Hulks do not.

One prominent theory suggests that the Red Hulk could have some connection to the Red Skull from 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, or may have been enhanced by the volatile Extremis serum from 2013’s Iron Man 3. It’s possible that the Leader, who is speculated to have had a hand in transforming Ross into the Red Hulk, could have used an experimental super-soldier serum or Extremis to complete his mission. This could explain the Red Hulk’s red skin, and provide an answer to some of his other abilities.

    9

    Bruce Banner Has Superhero Allies

The Hulk Is A Central Member Of The Avengers

While the Red Hulk seems to be one of the several villains featured in Captain America: Brave New World, Bruce Banner’s Hulk has always been a significant hero in the MCU. The Hulk became a founding member of the Avengers in 2012, and had a direct hand in taking down Loki. Since then, he fought Ultron, Hela and Thanos valiantly, gaining a huge number of allies and superpowered friends in the process, but this is not the case for the Red Hulk. Even if Thaddeus Ross did want to become a hero, he has alienated the world’s superheroes against him.

Ever since he made his first appearance in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, Thaddeus Ross has proven himself to be a staunch enemy to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. He hunted the Hulk, helped implement the strict Sokovia Accords and embarked on a manhunt for Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff and Sam Wilson after Captain America: Civil War. It’s very unlikely that Ross will have any allies as the Red Hulk, at least not ones who would help him adjust to his new identity as a superpowered individual.

Red Hulk Can Absorb Energy In Marvel Comics

Red Hulk Even Absorbs The Power Cosmic

While it’s unclear whether the Red Hulk will have this incredible ability in Captain America: Brave New World, one of the key differences between the Red Hulk and Bruce Banner in Marvel Comics is that the former can absorb energy. This can help him lower and increase his own power level and that of others, particularly in cases where he absorbs the gamma radiation from the Hulk, causing him to revert to Bruce Banner, and when he absorbs the Power Cosmic. In 2009’s Hulk (Vol. 2) #12, this saw him take the Silver Surfer’s power, leaving the cosmic being powerless.

How Big Is Red Hulk Compared To The MCU’s Hulk?

Red Hulk is officially coming to the MCU as per the Captain America: Brave New World trailer, but how much will he tower over the movie’s protagonist?

Bruce Banner has been shown to be able to withstand extreme levels of gamma radiation in the MCU, such as when he snapped his fingers using a completed Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers: Endgame. However, he is not able to absorb energy in the same way as the Red Hulk, who can literally siphon power away from others to use for himself. However, overuse of this power in Marvel Comics eventually means the Red Hulk cannot revert to his human form, which could be an interesting downside to explore in the live-action MCU.

    7

Bruce Banner Couldn’t Control His Hulk For Years

Red Hulk Is Intelligent Like She-Hulk In Marvel Comics

Bruce Banner’s evolution into an intelligent version of the Hulk has been a very gradual and drawn-out process that has taken many years. When he was first seen in The Incredible Hulk, the titular Hulk was practically a mindless version of Banner, working purely on instinct. However, throughout The Avengers, Age of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok and Infinity War, this developed and changed. This eventually saw a more functional Hulk operate in the MCU before Banner combined the human and Hulk personas, but the Red Hulk won’t have to embark on this years-long journey.

While Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross made his first Marvel Comics appearance in 1962’s The Incredible Hulk #1, he debuted as the Red Hulk in 2008’s Hulk (Vol. 2) #1, though the Red Hulk wasn’t revealed to be Ross until 2010’s World War Hulks event.

Similarly to Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk, the Red Hulk has a much better hold over his Hulk abilities than Bruce Banner ever did. Ross can consciously transform into and out of his Red Hulk form, and retains his intelligence when in Hulk form, which, if adapted for live-action, will make him a formidable and terrifying villain for Sam Wilson’s Captain America. While it has been great to see Bruce Banner grow over the last 17 years, it would be better to debut Red Hulk as an intelligent threat, as this would fit Captain America: Brave New World’s grounded story.

    6

Red Hulk Emits Heat From His Body

The Angrier He Becomes, The Hotter He Gets

One of the biggest differences in the power-sets of the Hulk and the Red Hulk is that the latter can emit huge amounts of heat from his body when in his Hulk form. Bruce Banner is not dangerous to be around when in his Hulk body, but this is not the case for the Red Hulk. While Bruce Banner’s Hulk gets stronger the angrier he becomes, at least in Marvel Comics, the Red Hulk’s body temperature increases depending on his anger, sometimes even making him hot enough to melt sand into glass. However, this comes with a huge downside.

When the Red Hulk becomes too angry and gets too hot in Marvel Comics, the intense heat weakens him significantly. Captain America: Brave New World’s trailers have teased the Red Hulk’s heat-based abilities, which could present a huge weakness that Sam Wilson’s Captain America can exploit to bring the looming villain to his knees. This does, however, make it very risky just to be in proximity to the Red Hulk, which could pose some serious problems for the MCU and the Earth’s heroes.

    5

Bruce Banner’s Knowledge Of Gamma Radiation Makes Him A More Powerful Hulk

Bruce Banner’s Scientific Background Has Been Beneficial

One thing that Bruce Banner has that Thaddeus Ross does not is an intense knowledge of science and biology. This knowledge has allowed Bruce Banner to view himself as an experiment, conducting tests and research on his own biology to better understand the Hulk, which means he has had an advantage in knowing how he works, what he is capable of and how to better control both aspects of his personality. The Red Hulk will not have this in Captain America: Brave New World, so he will be a much more unpredictable character.

How Red Hulk’s Transformation Compares To The MCU’s Hulk

Marvel Studios has revealed an official look at the Red Hulk’s transformation in the MCU. Here’s how it compares to the original Incredible Hulk.

Thaddeus Ross has been tracking, researching and hunting the Hulk for several decades, and had a hand in funding the research that allowed Bruce Banner to inadvertently transform himself into the Hulk to begin with. However, he does not have an intimate knowledge of exactly what goes on inside Banner’s body, and therefore his own when he becomes the Red Hulk. Instead, Ross will be working it out as he goes along, which could prove incredibly dangerous in Captain America: Brave New World.

    4

Red Hulk Is More Tactically Minded Than Bruce Banner

Bruce Banner Doesn’t Have Thaddeus Ross’ Military History

While Bruce Banner might have more scientific knowledge and his genius to rely on, he doesn’t have the tactical, military-minded skills that Thaddeus Ross’ Red Hulk will have in Captain America: Brave New World. Ross was introduced to the MCU as a Lieutenant General before returning as the Secretary of State in Captain America: Civil War. He has had a very lengthy career in the United States military, and since he retains his knowledge and skills when in Red Hulk form, the new MCU villain will be able to access this history.

A version of Thaddeus Ross still in the United States military was briefly seen in 2024’s X-Men ’97 season 1 during Rogue’s rampaging search for Henry Peter Gyrich and Bolivar Trask. This version was voiced by Michael Patrick McGill, who also voices Ross in two episodes of Marvel Animation’s What If…?.

This will surely make the Red Hulk a more brutal, scheming, tactical and scary character than the Hulk has ever been depicted as. As a formidable soldier in the military, Ross could put these skills to good use as the Red Hulk, which may spell bad news for Sam Wilson in Captain America: Brave New World, though Wilson was also formerly a soldier in the United States Air Force. Ross’ Red Hulk will be able to make fast tactical decisions in the heat of battle, however, making him a powerful opponent to Captain America.

    3

Bruce Banner’s Hulk Always Tried To Be A Hero

Red Hulk Doesn’t Seem To Be A Hero

Even though he sometimes put his darker, more brutal and more morally questionable sides on display in the MCU, Bruce Banner always tried to use the Hulk for good, and always strived to be a hero. It doesn’t seem as though Thaddeus Ross will make the same decisions as the Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World, as trailers for the upcoming Phase 5 movie have shown the Red Hulk in battle against Captain America. This reflects his Marvel Comics backstory, and cements the fact that Bruce Banner was actually successful in becoming a hero.

Since his debut in Marvel Comics, the Red Hulk has been depicted as a villain and antihero, transforming into the latter after establishing his own team of Thunderbolts in 2012 alongside other antiheroes such as Deadpool, the Punisher and Ghost Rider. It’s very possible that future MCU projects could see the Red Hulk become an antihero, perhaps even a member of the upcoming Thunderbolts team. However, his darkness will likely always come through, as Thaddeus Ross has never been a hero in the MCU, and it wouldn’t make sense for him to follow in Bruce Banner’s footsteps.

    2

Red Hulk Has Presidential Power & Influence

The MCU’s Politics Will Be Forever Changed In Captain America: Brave New World

Captain America: Brave New World will mark significant changes for the MCU not just by debuting the Red Hulk, but having the Red Hulk’s human form be the President of the United States. Thaddeus Ross has surely earned his position as the new President, but having a figure of authority this high become a superpowered villain will be a milestone moment for the MCU. This is especially true as trailers for Captain America: Brave New World have suggested Ross will transform into the Red Hulk for the first time at the presidential podium, so there’s no hiding.

Captain America 4’s Red Hulk Design Has Me Convinced The MCU Can Fix 1 Phase 4 Controversy 3 Years Later

President Ross’ Red Hulk design has me very excited for Captain America: Brave New World, particularly as this can finally fix an MCU disappointment.

While it’s possible that Ross’ transformation into the Red Hulk could lead to him being impeached or removed as President, it’s also possible that Ross could use his high-ranking position to enact his goals as the Red Hulk. It would be fantastical and brilliant to see the intelligent Red Hulk performing presidential duties in the MCU, though this seems incredibly unlikely. Nevertheless, no other hero has had the level of authority and power that the Red Hulk is about to have in the MCU, including Bruce Banner.

    1

Bruce Banner Has Combined The Human & Hulk Personas

Smart Hulk Debuted In Avengers: Endgame

It seems as though the Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World will copy his Marvel Comics counterpart, being able to switch between the human and Hulk personas. This will create perhaps the biggest difference between him and Bruce Banner’s Hulk in the MCU, as Banner has been stuck as the Smart Hulk since he first appeared in Avengers: Endgame, aside from brief moments in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. During the five-year-long Blip, Banner integrated his human and Hulk personas, finally making him one.

There has been speculation that Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner will appear in Captain America: Brave New World, but neither Ruffalo nor Marvel Studios have confirmed this, though it may have been teased by Anthony Mackie accidentally.

Combining the human and Hulk made Bruce Banner a bigger asset during the Time Heist and the battle against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. However, this has also removed his human life completely, as he lives permanently as the Smart Hulk, which may cause him problems in other areas, but makes him a more well-rounded and put-together character. As the Red Hulk, Thaddeus Ross may feel the conflict of his double-personality in Captain America: Brave New World, which may be a weakness that will allow Sam Wilson’s Captain America to defeat the exciting new villain.

    Upcoming MCU Movies

    2. Appearance: The Hulk is portrayed as a green behemoth with incredible strength, while Red Hulk is depicted as a red-skinned, equally powerful creature.
    3. Personality: The Hulk is often portrayed as a misunderstood and conflicted character, while Red Hulk is more aggressive and ruthless.

    5. Leadership: The Hulk is more of a loner and tends to work alone, while Red Hulk has a military background and is often seen leading teams of soldiers.
    6. Allies: The Hulk has formed alliances with other Avengers, such as Iron Man and Thor, while Red Hulk has been known to work with anti-hero groups like the Thunderbolts.
    7. Weaknesses: The Hulk’s main weakness is his vulnerability to mind control, while Red Hulk’s weakness lies in his overconfidence and tendency to underestimate his opponents.
    8. Motives: The Hulk typically fights to protect innocent people and control his rage, while Red Hulk is driven by a desire for power and revenge.
    9. Relationships: The Hulk has a complicated relationship with his alter ego, Bruce Banner, while Red Hulk has a strained relationship with his daughter, Betty Ross.
    10. Evolution: Both characters have undergone transformations and changes over the years, but their core differences remain intact in the MCU.

  • No Way Home Has 1 Easter Egg That Not Even Super Fans Have Found Yet According To MCU Movie Director

According to Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts and writer Christopher Ford, there’s still one undiscovered easter egg in Tom Holland’s third solo MCU movie. Spider-Man: No Way Home was packed with references to previous Marvel movies and the source material. After all, the Phase 4 multiversal movie is a love letter to Spider-Man’s twenty-year movie history. As such, it offers plenty of details that die-hard fans can pick up on every rewatch.

More than three years after its release, Spider-Man: No Way Home still offers one more mystery to crack. During an interview with ScreenRant about their 2025 Star Wars show Skeleton Crew, director Jon Watts and writer Christopher Ford confess that fans haven’t identified a Spider-Man: No Way Home easter egg. Watts drops a clue, saying, “there’s some very, very deep-cut references to dumb videos that Ford and I made on YouTube a long time ago.” Read Watts and Ford’s full comments below:

Jon Watts: I will preface this by saying there is an Easter egg in No Way Home that no one has found.

It’s a hard one, but people found a lot of our intentionally placed Easter eggs. There was also a thing where people find Easter eggs that we didn’t put there. We’re like, “Yeah, great.” And then there’s some very, very deep-cut references to dumb videos that Ford and I made on YouTube a long time ago.

Christopher Ford: Yeah, it’s like people pick up the ones that are from super famous movies. And then the ones that are references to our own short films, somehow people don’t know those ones.

What Jon Watts & Christopher Ford’s Easter Egg Reveal Means For Spider-Man No Way Home

Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Undiscovered Easter Egg Is Different From All Other References

Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s easter eggs were some of the movie’s most anticipated reveals in 2021. Naturally, fans have examined every frame to find every possible reference to MCU and non-MCU movies and shows. However, the reason the reference hasn’t been found may be that it isn’t a nod to any Marvel property. Instead, as Jon Watts and Christopher Ford suggest, Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s undiscovered easter egg is probably a niche nod to Watts and Ford’s short films and videos.

I Had No Idea One Of Deadpool & Wolverine’s Best Easter Eggs Wasn’t An Accident And I Couldn’t Be More Thrilled

Deadpool & Wolverine features many excellent Easter Eggs, and I’m relieved to find out that one of the movie’s best references was in the script.

Before Spider-Man: No Way Home, Watts and Ford worked together on the 2014 horror movie Clown, the 2015 thriller Cop Car, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Before their feature film collaborations, Jon Watts and Christopher Ford made short films alongside other Brooklyn-based filmmakers (including Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier) for their YouTube channel waverlyflams. So, if fans are interested in finding the missing Spider-Man: No Way Home easter egg, that should be the place to start.

It’s easy to get carried away in the search for Marvel easter eggs and nods every time an MCU title comes out. But many MCU movies and shows have included subtle nods to other properties. For example, Guardians of the Galaxy features a nod to Arrested Development‘s Tobias Funke in the Collector’s den, and Nick Fury’s epitaph in Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a reference to Pulp Fiction‘s Jules Winnfield. Like Spider-Man: No Way Home, other hidden details like Guardians of the Galaxy‘s long-undiscovered easter eggs, are so contrived that they take many years to find.

    Upcoming MCU Movies

Spider-Man: No Way Home has been a treasure trove of Easter eggs and hidden references for Marvel fans to uncover. However, according to MCU movie director Jon Watts, there is one Easter egg in the film that even super fans have yet to find.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Watts revealed that there is a hidden Easter egg in No Way Home that has gone unnoticed by fans so far. While he didn’t give any hints or clues as to what the Easter egg could be, he did mention that it is something very subtle and easy to miss.

Watts’ revelation has sparked a new wave of speculation and excitement among fans, as they now have a new mystery to solve in the already Easter egg-packed film. With fans combing through every frame of No Way Home to uncover this hidden gem, it’s only a matter of time before someone cracks the code and reveals the elusive Easter egg.

So, if you thought you had caught all the Easter eggs in No Way Home, think again. There’s still one out there waiting to be discovered, and it seems that even the most dedicated Marvel fans have yet to uncover it. Happy hunting!

  • Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow And Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye Return As Evil Versions Of Their Avengers Heroes In MCU Art

New art brings Scarlett Johnasson’s Black Widow and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye back to the MCU as powerful villains. Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner both joined the MCU in Phase 1, Johansson as Natasha Romanoff’s Black Widow in Iron Man 2 and Renner as Clint Barton’s Hawkeye in Thor. After spending years as world-renowned Avengers, their partnership came to an end following Black Widow’s sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame, but there may now be a chance for the pair to reunite in the MCU’s Phase 6.

Robert Downey Jr. was revealed to be rejoining the MCU as iconic Marvel villain Doctor Doom ahead of his debut in Avengers: Doomsday, and this casting news was followed by Chris Evans being confirmed to also be returning. There has been speculation that the MCU’s original Avengers cast could return as twisted villains in Phase 6, which could lead to Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner returning as evil versions of Black Widow and Hawkeye. This has been imagined in striking art shared by arifinity which depicts Johansson as the Red Widow and Renner as Ronin.

What Scarlett Johansson & Jeremy Renner’s Villainous Returns Would Mean For Avengers: Doomsday

Other Avengers Are Already Returning In Avengers: Doomsday

Currently, neither Scarlett Johansson nor Jeremy Renner have been confirmed to be reprising their MCU roles in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. However, the fact that a number of other Marvel actors have been revealed to be returning suggests that these original heroes could be next. Another version of arifinity’s art imagines Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton returning as HYDRA soldiers, which is reminiscent of recent speculation that Chris Evans could be returning as a HYDRA-indoctinated Captain America.

Seeing Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton return to the MCU as villains would be a brilliant development for the MCU, especially if they are joined by twisted versions of the other founding Avengers. This would give Marvel Studios the opportunity to really show off the possibilities across the multiverse, and would mark the original Avengers cast’s first reunion on-screen since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. This would create a benchmark moment for the MCU, perhaps helping to make Avengers: Doomsday the franchise’s biggest movie yet.

Our Take On Scarlett Johansson & Jeremy Renner Returning To The MCU As Villains

Black Widow & Hawkeye Would Make Excellent MCU Villains

Black Widow and Hawkeye fighting together in The Avengers

Black Widow and Hawkeye have always been depicted as the most morally-ambiguous members of the Avengers, even though they put their formidable skills to work for good during their careers in the MCU. Their shared background as assassins and trained killers means it would be very easy to imagine them making the move into villainy. Scarlett Johansson could depict a version of the Black Widow who never defected to the United States, while Jeremy Renner may resume his activities as the murderous Ronin, which would be great to see in Avengers: Doomsday.

  • Kat Dennings Still Cannot Believe Her ‘Thor’ Character is a Recurring MCU Character

Kat Dennings Still Cannot Believe Her ‘Thor’ Character is a Recurring MCU Character

Nobody could have expected back in 2011 when Thor was released that Kat Dennings Darcy Lewis would become a fan-favorite recurring character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly Dennings herself. Unlike most of the characters in Thor, who originated in Marvel Comics, Darcy Lewis was an original creation for the film. The character was initially conceived as a middle-aged man, but Dennings’ casting not only changed the character, but her sarcastic attitude and strong comedic timing, which not only helped cement Dennings as a rising star, but also made Darcy Lewis a character creators would revisit in projects like WandaVision and What If…?

Speaking with Collider, Dennings addressed how lucky she is to be part of the MCU, and revealed she has no plans to say goodbye to Darcy Lewis as long as Marvel Studios keeps asking her to return. Dennings said:

“I can’t believe that this character became this thing that’s gone over so many different things. It’s one of those luck of the draw things because that role originally was just supposed to be an assistant that was in a couple of scenes in Thor. And for whatever reason, they expanded it and expanded it and kept using me. Every time, I was like, ‘I can’t believe they want me back. This is the best!’ So, every time they ask for me, I will always say yes, no matter what. I just still can’t believe it.”

Dennings’ Darcy Lewis appeared in 2011’s Thor and 2013’s Thor: The Dark World but was rarely seen after that. Starting in Phase 4, however, she became a recurring character, first appearing again in WandaVision in 2021 and then returning as Darcy in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. Dennings Darcy Lewis also appeared in four episodes of What If…?, marrying and giving birth to Howard the Duck’s son in her latest.

    Darcy Lewis Will Return

It is fascinating to see how Dennings’s career has grown since she was cast as Darcy Lewis. When Thor came out, she was a star on the rise with memorable roles in films like The 40-Year-Old Virgin and The House Bunny, along with the lead role in the cult classic Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist. Thor was released four months before Dennings’ hit television show, 2 Broke Girls, debuted and would go on to run for six seasons. She has since starred in the underrated series Dollface and is set to star in a new comedy on ABC alongside Tim Allen titled Shifting Gears. Shifting Gears will debut on January 8, 2025, just two weeks after Dennings’s appearance on What If…? Season 3’s best episode so far, “What If…Howard the Duck Got Hitched?

Kat Dennings has proved through her film and television roles that she is a highly talented actor. Let’s look at her best performances so far.

While we don’t expect to see a big headline about Kat Dennings returning for Avengers: Doomsday, nobody would be upset if she did appear. A variant of Darcy Lewis’s daughter, Brydie appears to be a powerful cosmic multiversal hero on What If…?. If Brydie were to appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, Dennings could appear as her mother alongside Howard the Duck. The great thing, though, about Darcy Lewis is that she can theoretically be matched well with any character, and should not be ruled out of any future movies and shows.

Kat Dennings, who plays the lovable Darcy Lewis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), recently expressed her disbelief that her character has become a recurring presence in the franchise. Dennings first appeared as Darcy in the original “Thor” movie back in 2011, and has since reprised her role in “Thor: The Dark World” and the Disney+ series “WandaVision.”

As the MCU continues to expand with new projects and characters, it’s exciting to see Darcy Lewis remain a part of the ever-growing universe. Fans can look forward to seeing more of Dennings in the upcoming “Thor: Love and Thunder” movie, where she will once again team up with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.

Following stand-out turns in Netflix’s Squid Game and Disney+’s The Acolyte, South Korean actor Lee Jung-jae might be set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to scooper MTTSH, Jung-jae is in talks for an undisclosed MCU role.

We don’t have any details on who he might be in line to play, but there’s a chance it isn’t any one specific hero or villain. Kevin Feige has been known to reach out to actors he’s keen to work with without having a particular character in mind, and it’s also possible that Jung-jae was given a choice of several different roles.

The Acolyte proved to be one of Lucasfilm’s more divisive Star Wars shows, but most fans would likely be in agreement that Jung-jae’s Jedi Master Sol was a standout.

While speaking to Vanity Fair about season 2 of Squid Game – which is currently streaming – Jung-jae reflected on the backlash the show received from certain fans, with some cast members being subjected to racist, homophobic and misogynistic abuse online.

“My feelings were hurt,” he admitted. “Especially for Leslye Headland—her feelings must have hurt a lot. I can only have faith that racism will end someday, even though it’s going to be hard.”

Lee added that he is optimistic that viewers will revisit The Acolyte down the line, and may gain a new appreciation for the High Republic Era-set tale. “For some work, it takes time to gain traction, and I have strong hopes that people will like it as time passes.”

Sol was killed off in the finale, and likely wouldn’t have been back for a second season, anyway, but there were a number of plot threads and character arcs left unresolved, including the much-discussed live-action introduction of Darth Plagueis.

Are there any Marvel Comics characters you’d like to see Lee Jung-jae suit-up as in the MCU? Drop us a comment down below.

In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.

The series stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Leslye Headland created the series, based on Star Wars by George Lucas, and serves as an executive producer along with Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King and Jason Micallef. Charmaine DeGraté and Kor Adana are the co-executive producers. Rayne Roberts, Damian Anderson, Eileen Shim and Rob Bredow are the producers.

Headland also directed the premiere episodes (Eps. 101 & 102). Directors Kogonada (Eps. 103 & 107), Alex Garcia Lopez (Eps. 104 & 105) and Hanelle Culpepper (Eps. 106 & 108) round out the directing duties on the series.

CAPTAIN AMERICA Star Returns to the MCU

    By Movieguide® Contributor

Looks like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans aren’t the only ones returning to the Marvel universe — CAPTAIN AMERICA star Hayley Atwell is officially back in the MCU!

It’s still unknown what Atwell’s exact role is, but Deadline reported that sources told them she is “expected to reprise her Agent Carter role” in the upcoming AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY.

Atwell played Agent Peggy Carter in the first two CAPTAIN AMERICA movies, as well as in the 2015 series AGENT CARTER. She has also appeared in high-profile projects like MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE — DEAD RECKONING PART ONE and the upcoming PADDINGTON IN PERU.

Atwell’s CAPTAIN AMERICA co-star Evans will also appear in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY, but it’s unknown whether or not he will be playing the patriotic superhero.

According to many, this onscreen reunion has been a long time coming for Atwell and Evans.

“The pair were initially in talks to return in their own co-starring movie, presumably picking up in the years after Steve returned to the past and married Peggy at the end of AVENGERS: ENDGAME,” Total Film wrote. “However, a story for the film couldn’t be settled on, so the pair’s reunion and return as Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter has apparently been shifted over to AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY.”

With this latest casting announcement, along with Evans and Downey Jr returning to the MCU, many are wondering if this is Marvel’s attempt at winning back any lost fans.

“Although the studio did have a big win with the sole movie it put in theaters this year — the billion-dollar DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE — it’s coming off of a 2023 that saw audiences largely indifferent to its efforts to create a new stable of heroes to fill out a second generation of superpowered stars,” the A.V. Club reported. “Hence why it now seems to be leaning so heavily on the old generation of stars.”
