  • Pentagon removes major media outlets, including NBC News, from dedicated workstations as part of a new ‘rotation program’

WASHINGTON — The Department of Defense announced Friday night that it will institute a new “annual media rotation program” for its in-house press corps, effectively removing several major news outlets, including NBC News, from their Pentagon office spaces in favor of other outlets.

In addition to NBC News, The New York Times, National Public Radio and Politico must vacate their dedicated workspaces. The news organizations learned about the new directive in a memo sent to the press corps without being individually notified, and an accompanying email included a message that read, in part, “no additional information will be provided at this time.”

“For over a half-century, the Pentagon Press Corps has benefited from working out of individual office spaces that provide coveted and open access to some of the Department’s top military and civilian leaders,” read the memo Pentagon spokesperson John Ullyot sent to the Pentagon Press Association.

“In order to broaden access to the limited space of the Correspondents’ Corridor to outlets that have not previously enjoyed the privilege and journalist value of working from physical office space in the Pentagon, beginning February 14, 2025,” Ullyot wrote, there will be “a new Annual Media Rotation Program for those dedicated media spaces.”

In a statement, NBC News said, “We’re disappointed by the decision to deny us access to a broadcasting booth at the Pentagon that we’ve used for many decades. Despite the significant obstacles this presents to our ability to gather and report news in the national public interest, we will continue to report with the same integrity and rigor NBC News always has.”

The move by Pentagon officials comes seven days after the Senate confirmed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth by the narrowest of margins. It followed weeks of coverage about his behavior and treatment of women, including allegations that his alcohol consumption alarmed colleagues and his second wife feared for her safety around him. Hegseth has denied the allegations.

NBC News reported on some of the allegations against Hegseth.

The memo identified the rotating organizations by medium — selecting one each from TV, print, radio and online news to swap in and out. It said the news organizations rotating out had two weeks to vacate their spaces.

The new outlets rotating in are One America News Network — which will take NBC News’s spot — the New York Post, Breitbart News Network and HuffPost.

Three of the new outlets are conservative, while HuffPost leans progressive.

HuffPost does not have a Pentagon correspondent, and the site did not request a space, spokesperson Lizzie Grams said.

“If the Trump administration and Secretary Hegseth are interested in more hard-hitting coverage of their stewardship of the Defense Department from HuffPost, we are ready to deliver,” Grams said.

“This decision interferes with the ability of millions of Americans to directly hear from Pentagon leadership, and with NPR’s public interest mission to serve Americans who turn to our network of local public media stations in all 50 states,” NPR said in a statement. “NPR will continue to report with vigor and integrity on the transformation this Administration has promised to deliver. NPR urges the Pentagon to expand the offices available to press within the building so that all outlets covering the Pentagon receive equal access.”

A One America News spokesperson said in a statement that the news outlet has operated a bureau in Washington since 2013, and it “looks forward to having access to physical office space at the Pentagon and will utilize the accommodations full-time as soon as it’s available.”

NBC News reached out to the other news outlets for comment.

The memo did not include further details about the process of the new “rotation program,” including how officials chose which outlets needed to vacate office space first, how the new outlets were chosen and which are next, and how long an outlet would remain without an office space before it was rotated back into the building.

NBC News has held its dedicated Pentagon workspace for decades, enabling the network to broadcast its journalism throughout the day and within minutes of breaking news. The “booth,” as they are called, is hardwired with technical equipment, phone lines and a camera installed by NBC.

It is unclear whether NBC News will have the technical capability to broadcast from the Pentagon once it clears out its equipment from its workspace.

Ullyot noted that the vacating outlets continue to be members of the Pentagon press corps, meaning, in part, they “will be able to attend and cover briefings and be considered for travel with civilian and military leaders in the Department as they have previously.”

The Pentagon Press Association on Friday evening issued a statement saying, “Our resident press corps has greatly expanded over the years and we have always welcomed new members and will continue to do so.”

“We are, however, greatly troubled by this unprecedented move by DOD to single out highly professional media who have covered the Pentagon for decades, under both Republican and Democratic administrations,” the statement read. “We have asked for a meeting and we will keep everyone informed.”

At her first press briefing this week, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that President Donald Trump’s administration was “opening up the briefing room to new media voices.” The first people she called on were Mike Allen of Axios — a longtime political journalist at a site considered mainstream — and Matt Boyle of Breitbart, a conservative site.

Leavitt also said her team was working “diligently to restore the press passes of the 440 journalists whose passes were wrongly revoked by the previous administration.”

The Pentagon has recently made the decision to remove major media outlets, including NBC News, from their dedicated workstations as part of a new ‘rotation program’. This move has sparked controversy and raised questions about the Pentagon’s relationship with the media.

According to Pentagon officials, the rotation program aims to provide a more equitable distribution of resources and access to information for all media outlets. This decision comes after years of complaints from smaller media organizations about the dominance of major outlets in the Pentagon press corps.

However, critics argue that this move is a blatant attempt to limit the access and influence of major media outlets, particularly those that are critical of the Pentagon or the current administration. They argue that this could have a chilling effect on the freedom of the press and the public’s right to know.

NBC News, one of the outlets affected by this decision, has expressed disappointment and concern about the Pentagon’s actions. They have vowed to continue reporting on national security and military issues, despite the challenges posed by the rotation program.

As the debate over the Pentagon’s new rotation program continues, it remains to be seen how this decision will impact the relationship between the military and the media, and what implications it may have for the broader landscape of press freedom in the United States.

    Generate Key Takeaways

The Pentagon will begin a new annual rotation program for media that requires several outlets, including NBC News, the New York Times and National Public Radio, to vacate their physical offices to allow for others – like Breitbart News, the New York Post and One America News Network – to get their turn.

The Friday announcement from the Department of Defense, now led by former Fox News host Pete Hegseth, will also remove Politico from its established in-house workspace.

The outgoing news orgs learned about the directive in a wide memo without individual notification or additional explanation, and takes effect in two weeks. The move comes a week after Hegseth was confirmed in the Senate by a narrow margin.

“For over a half-century, the Pentagon Press Corps has benefited from working out of individual office spaces that provide coveted and open access to some of the Department’s top military and civilian leaders,” reads the memo, from Pentagon spokesperson John Ullyot.

NBC News said it was disappointed by the decision “to deny us access to a broadcasting booth at the Pentagon that we’ve used for many decades. Despite the significant obstacles this presents to our ability to gather and report news in the national public interest, we will continue to report with the same integrity and rigor NBC News always has.”

The new outlets rotating in are One America News Network, the New York Post, Breitbart News Network and HuffPost as new organizations that will rotate in and out from the space.

“This move to expel The Times and other independent, fact-based news outlets from the Pentagon’s press spaces is a concerning development,” the NYT wrote in a Saturday statement. “The Department of Defense has the largest discretionary budget in the government, millions of Americans in uniform under its direction and control of a vast arsenal funded by taxpayers. The Times is committed to covering the Pentagon fully and fairly. Steps designed to impede access are clearly not in the public interest.”

The Pentagon recently announced a new rotation program that will see several major media outlets, including NBC News and The New York Times, removed from their offices within the building. This decision has sparked controversy and raised questions about press freedom and access to information.

The rotation program is designed to give different media organizations the opportunity to have a physical presence at the Pentagon, but it also means that some outlets will have to vacate their offices to make room for others. The move has been met with criticism from those who argue that it could limit the ability of journalists to do their jobs effectively and could be seen as a form of censorship.

The Pentagon has defended the decision, stating that the rotation program is intended to promote fairness and diversity in media coverage of the Department of Defense. They have emphasized that all accredited media organizations will still have access to press briefings and other events, regardless of whether they have an office in the building.

As this story continues to unfold, it raises important questions about the relationship between the government and the media, and the role of journalists in holding those in power accountable. It will be interesting to see how this rotation program impacts the coverage of the Pentagon and whether it will have any lasting effects on press freedom.

It’s no secret that Jason Day has pushed the boundaries lately with his on-course attire, but many fans think he crossed the line on Sunday.

Day teed off for the final round at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and his outfit – a full gray sweatsuit – drew a ton of reaction.

The Australian has a partnership with Malbon Golf, who has tried to de-country-club the golf look.

Jason Day hits his bunker shot during the Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Feb. 2, 2025.

It got to the point where Augusta National officials asked him to make an outfit change during last year’s Masters.

At Pebble Beach, Day was donning an outfit that some might just sleep in, prompting a stir.

“I don’t care how much I get downvoted but he is finding new ways to look like a slob,” wrote one user on X.

“An insult to the game,” said another.

Added one more, “Dressing like John Fetterman should not be an option for professional golfers on the tour. Frankly, it should not be an option for any golfers playing at Pebble Beach.”

PGA star Jason Day caused a social media uproar at Pebble Beach when he showed up to practice in a pair of baggy sweatpants, sparking comparisons to Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman’s signature style.

Day, known for his sleek and polished on-course attire, surprised fans and fellow players alike with his casual and laid-back look. The contrast between his usual crisp polo shirts and slacks and the oversized sweats left many wondering if this was a new fashion statement or simply a one-time deviation from the norm.

The comparison to Fetterman, who is often seen sporting work boots, cargo shorts, and a simple t-shirt, was not lost on Twitter users. Some joked that Day must be taking style tips from the politician, while others praised him for breaking away from the traditional golf attire and embracing a more relaxed approach.

Regardless of the reason behind Day’s fashion choice, one thing is for sure – he certainly got people talking. Only time will tell if this was a one-time experiment or the beginning of a new trend on the PGA Tour.

  • Actor Idris Elba Suggests ‘Blunting’ Knives To Reduce Stabbings In UK. Social Media Reacts

Amid the uptick in knife crimes in the UK, actor Idris Elba has come up with a solution that has divided the public. The British actor said the government must consider “innovative” prevention methods, including blunting or banning knives. Mr Elba has spent the last year developing a documentary about solutions to knife crime during which he met families of the victims, police officers and the perpetrators.

“The truth is that kitchen knives are perhaps 25 per cent of the knives used in most of the terrible crimes. That’s one of the stats in the film. And those kitchen knives are usually a domestic situation. So kitchen knives…of course, it’s very difficult. They’re a domestic knife,” said Mr Elba.

“I do think there is areas of innovation that we can do with kitchen knives. I hate to say it. Not all kitchen knives need to have a point on them. That sounds like a crazy thing to say, but actually, it would reduce- you know, you can still cut your food without the point on your knife, which is an innovative way to sort of look at it,” he said. “In a country in crisis, I’m sorry, but yeah, let’s look at that.”

The Thor star also called out social media platforms and said they should take responsibility for their actions.

“When it comes to big tech, there needs to be accountability within their own policies, and their policies need to be educated and driven by what society deems is right or wrong,” he argued.

    Social media reacts

Social media users did not take kindly to Mr Elba’s suggestion with many pointing out that the weapon did not stop an accused from going on slicing sprees.

“Next time he does an action movie, I want him to use a Nerf gun instead of a realistic, looking one,” said one user, while another added: “Maybe all cutlery should be banned and everyone issued with their own spork?”

A third commented: “I don’t think that will solve the problem, sir.”

    Knife crime

The knife crime crisis in the UK came into the spotlight yet again after Axel Rudakubana, 18, was sentenced to 52 years in prison after he stabbed three young girls to death and attempted the murder of eight other children and two adults in July last year.

The Labour government, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called knife crime a “national crisis”. His administration has pledged to halve knife crime in the next decade. A ban on some knives and machetes came into force in September last year but the spate of stabbings has not stopped.

British actor Idris Elba has recently suggested a controversial solution to reduce stabbings in the UK – ‘blunting’ knives. In a recent interview, Elba proposed the idea of making knives with rounded tips instead of sharp points in an effort to prevent fatal stabbings.

Social media has been buzzing with reactions to Elba’s suggestion, with some praising his creative thinking and others criticizing the idea as impractical and ineffective. Many have pointed out that blunting knives would not address the root causes of violence in society and could potentially lead to unintended consequences.

What are your thoughts on Idris Elba’s proposal to ‘blunt’ knives? Do you think it could help reduce stabbings in the UK, or do you believe there are better solutions to address the issue of knife crime? Let us know in the comments below. #IdrisElba #KnifeCrime #Stabbings #UKViolence

  • Cybersecurity in the Age of Social Media: Navigating Privacy and Security Concerns

Cybersecurity in the Age of Social Media: Navigating Privacy and Security Concerns

In today’s digital age, social media has become an integral part of our daily lives. We use platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn to connect with friends and family, share photos and updates, and network with professionals. However, as we spend more time online, we are also exposing ourselves to potential cybersecurity threats.

Cybersecurity is a growing concern in the age of social media, as hackers and cybercriminals are constantly looking for ways to exploit vulnerabilities in these platforms to steal personal information, spread malware, or launch phishing attacks. Navigating privacy and security concerns on social media has become more important than ever, as the consequences of a data breach or cyber attack can be devastating.

One of the key privacy concerns on social media is the amount of personal information that users willingly share online. From our date of birth and location to our likes and dislikes, social media platforms collect a vast amount of data about us. This information can be used by advertisers to target us with personalized ads, but it can also be a goldmine for cybercriminals looking to steal our identities or commit fraud.

To protect your privacy on social media, it’s important to review your privacy settings regularly and limit the amount of personal information you share online. Be cautious about accepting friend requests or following unfamiliar accounts, as they could be fake profiles created by hackers. Avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading attachments from unknown sources, as they could contain malware that can compromise your device.

In addition to privacy concerns, security is also a major issue on social media. Phishing attacks, where hackers pose as trusted entities to trick users into revealing sensitive information, are common on these platforms. Be wary of messages or emails asking for your login credentials or financial information, and never share this information with anyone online.

To enhance your security on social media, enable two-factor authentication on your accounts and use strong, unique passwords for each platform. Regularly update your security software and be vigilant about monitoring your accounts for any unusual activity. If you suspect that your account has been compromised, report it to the platform immediately and change your password to prevent further damage.

Overall, navigating privacy and security concerns on social media requires a proactive approach to protecting your personal information and staying one step ahead of cyber threats. By being mindful of what you share online, practicing good security habits, and staying informed about the latest cybersecurity trends, you can enjoy the benefits of social media without compromising your privacy and security.

  • Cybersecurity in the Age of Social Media: Protecting Your Digital Identity

Cybersecurity in the Age of Social Media: Protecting Your Digital Identity

In today’s digital age, social media has become an integral part of our daily lives. We use platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn to connect with friends and family, share updates about our lives, and even conduct business. However, with the rise of social media comes the increased risk of cyber threats and attacks.

Cybersecurity is more important than ever in the age of social media, as our digital identities are at risk of being compromised by hackers and cybercriminals. Protecting your digital identity should be a top priority to safeguard your personal information and prevent unauthorized access to your accounts.

One of the first steps to protecting your digital identity on social media is to use strong, unique passwords for each platform. Avoid using the same password across multiple accounts, as this can make it easier for hackers to gain access to all of your accounts if one is compromised. Make sure to use a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters to create a strong password that is difficult to crack.

It is also important to enable two-factor authentication on your social media accounts. This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second form of verification, such as a code sent to your phone or email, in addition to your password. This can help prevent unauthorized access to your accounts even if your password is compromised.

Be cautious about the information you share on social media. Avoid posting sensitive information such as your home address, phone number, or financial details. Cybercriminals can use this information to steal your identity or commit fraud. Be mindful of the privacy settings on your social media accounts and adjust them to limit who can see your posts and personal information.

Beware of phishing scams on social media. Cybercriminals often use fake emails or messages to trick users into revealing their login credentials or personal information. Be cautious of any unsolicited messages or requests for information, and never click on suspicious links or download attachments from unknown sources.

Regularly update your social media apps and devices to protect against security vulnerabilities. Software updates often include patches for known security issues that can help prevent cyber attacks. Additionally, consider using antivirus software and a virtual private network (VPN) to further enhance your online security.

In conclusion, cybersecurity is crucial in the age of social media to protect your digital identity from cyber threats and attacks. By following these tips and best practices, you can safeguard your personal information and enjoy a safer and more secure online experience. Stay vigilant and proactive in protecting your digital identity to prevent cybercriminals from gaining unauthorized access to your accounts.

  • Notes from Stoudamire and George’s media ahead of matchup vs. Louisville

Georgia Tech head coach Damon Stoudamire and sophomore guard Nait George met with the media on Friday as the Jackets get set to host No. 21 Louisville on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. at McCamish Pavilion.

The Cardinals have won 10 straight games and currently sit at second in the ACC standings with a 9-1 conference record. Stoudamire said a lot of their success has to do with how hard they play and how connected they are on the floor.

“You can kind of see them building as the year went on. They might’ve had a little lull right before Christmas, but they just kept building and building, and they found a great rhythm,” said Stoudamire. “They play for each other and look like they have a lot of fun with each other. And they’re not one of the hottest teams in the league, they’re one of the hottest teams in the country. I’m looking forward to the game, but that’s who they are. They are a transition team. We’ve got to have a lot of energy. We’ve to match their energy.”

Stoudamire said perimeter defense will be key with as well as Louisville shoots it from 3-point range along with sprinting back on defense to be matched up with your man.

“But at the same time, we can’t be on our heels playing against this team,” said Stoudamire. “They’re a really good team obviously, respect what they’re doing. They’ve done a great job, but we’ve got to run it back at them. We’ve got to be aggressive in the things that we do.”

Stoudamire said another important aspect of the game would be keeping Louisville off the boards and match the physicality of the game as the Cardinals constantly send four people to rebound and do it very aggressively.

Stoudamire said the starting lineup is still something he changes based on each game and used Duncan Powell as an example who has been playing well and came off the bench in the Notre Dame game to give the team a boost. He said “Dunc” has been really good and only getting better. He added that Louisville plays a little smaller most of the time so that would go into his decision on which lineup he uses the most on Saturday because you can’t really have any lulls in scoring going up against them.

Stoudamire said despite the setbacks the team has faced with tough losses (like Tuesday’s loss at Notre Dame) and constant bad injury luck this year there hasn’t been any drop-off in energy in practice and the team is still positive and up-beat.

“Attitudes have been great, and I still feel like we can do some things,” said Stoudamire. “We’ve got 10 games to go, and it starts tomorrow.”

Stoudamire said that he doesn’t see much difference as far as what it does for his team playing against an opponent that plays a smaller lineup or bigger lineup but that going up against a smaller team allows you to put your five best on the floor. Even with that, he said it doesn’t make that much of a difference with the way his roster has been cut down with injuries, only having six or seven to pick from depending on the day.

“I trust our guys. We just have to…you know it’s unfortunate. Notre Dame game we were good for 38 minutes and we probably gave away five or six plays throughout the game but those five or six plays cost us,” said Stoudamire.

Stoudamire said there hasn’t been much change to the content and pace of practice due to the limited numbers but you certainly have to condense practices sometimes to be aware of overall health of the team. He said they do a lot of running early in practice not because it is a punishment but just something they have to do to be in shape and be able to have stamina in games with the numbers available.

“It’s been a different year and has caused me to make a lot of adjustments on the fly,” said Stoudamire. “But it’s been good still at the same time. Like I said, I love the way the guys compete. They’re still working.”

Stoudamire was asked about recruiting Eric Chatfield Jr. in this year’s class and what he saw in him. He said Chatfield is a “shifty guard and can shoot it” and big picture he’s the kind of guard that is only going to get better and better. He said he was a high-character kid that comes from a great family and he looks forward to coaching him.

In a follow-up when asked if Stoudamire sees any of himself in Chatfield, he responded that it remains to be seen with a smile. He said he doesn’t want to put that on him, but he has the chance to be good. He said it’s on Chatfield to prove if he can play early based on how he progresses once he gets to Tech.

Stoudamire was asked about his preseason expectations of Nait George and Baye Ndongo being prioritized differently by opponents because they are at the top of the scouting report this year. He said it’s still a “work-in-progress” and an “every day thing.”

He said that the pair has had to take on a lot not just because of how well they played last year but also with the injuries this season, more has been put on them. He said Ndongo has been more active and improved the last few games and getting back to “doing the things we want him to do.” He added that George has been good and getting better, but he still wants to see him score more like last game against Notre Dame. Stoudamire said he wants George to take more mid-range shots and take what the defense gives him as the point guard more to have more success.

“I think that both of them are evolving as players, and I think that everything we are doing is going to benefit them moving towards the future,” said Stoudamire.

George talked with the media as well coming off a strong individual effort against Notre Dame and was first asked about what Georgia Tech has shown the last couple years as far as getting up for ranked opponents. George said he and his teammates do sense that and it creates a different kind of energy and approach to the game when they face those better opponents.

George said they do feel like they needed to get more defensive stops down the stretch vs. Notre Dame but as far as the offensive end, they got the shots they wanted, it’s just a matter of knocking down those shots and he feels like they will do that going forward.

George said he doesn’t pay much attention to his assist numbers other than checking out where his averages rank in the ACC every once in a while, but other than that, he doesn’t worry too much about individual stats.

George said he definitely has heard a lot from Stoudamire about taking more mid-range shots and he’s a lot more comfortable taking them now when the defense gives it to him.

George said he didn’t really expect as much of a difference from his freshman to sophomore season as far as how opponents would play against him and Ndongo, but he realized early on in the season that it was a real thing and they just have to step up and make plays for their team. He said he believes both of them have it in them to do that even though it hasn’t shown up at times this season but they will.

George said they feel as a team that they are prepared well in practice for what they want to do defensively but they have to carry it over into the game better.

George was asked about his thoughts on Louisville.

“They’re good, but we’ve just got to cut off their threes in transition. Just transition in general, their lobs and stopping Chucky Hepburn from getting mid-range,” said George. “They’re dangerous from 3, especially in transition. So if we can cut that out and make them a half-court team, slow them down, we should compete.”

George said that with the shortened rotation playing because of the injuries they still don’t feel it too much on the court except for when there are stretches with no dead balls and just up-and-down play.
