Dan Hurley’s Huskies have been one of the more inconsistent teams in college basketball this season, having lost three of their six games, despite holding ranked wins against Baylor and Gonzaga. One of the reasons for UConn’s struggles of late can be pointed to the loss of star freshman Liam McNeeley, who has been out with a high ankle sprain since the start of January. The Huskies are coming off a 72-61 win over DePaul on Wednesday.
To pull out a top-10 ranked win on Saturday, UConn will have to stop National Player of the Year contender Kam Jones. The Memphis native is averaging 18.9 points and 6.3 assists per game this season, the latter of which ranks 15th nationally. Another player to look out for on Marquette is Stevie Mitchell, who has scored 20 or more points in each of the two games and averaging 2.9 steals in the Golden Eagles’ last eight games.

UConn vs Marquette predictions, picks, odds
This section will be updated.
Prediction: Marquette 80, UConn 76
This feels like a toss-up, given Marquette’s struggles in the first half of each of its last three games and the fact UConn is always in the game under Hurley. But with McNeely expected to be a game time decision again on Saturday for the Huskies, look for Jones and Mitchell to push Marquette over the line for a top-25 win at home.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Eight of the Big Ten’s 18 schools have reached the 10-game halfway point of the 20-game Big Ten men’s basketball season, and the rest will hit it this week.
Hoosiers On SI took a look at where each Big Ten stands as they make the turn for the second half of the Big Ten season and assigned mid-season grades for each school.
Michigan State
Jan 9, 2025; East Lansing, Michigan, USA; Michigan State Spartans guard Jaden Akins (3) puts a shot off the glass against the Washington Huskies during the second half at Jack Breslin Student Events Center. / Dale Young-Imagn Images • Record: 18-2 overall, 9-0 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 5th.
• Current Big Ten position: 1st.
• Overview: Last year, Michigan State was supposed to be good because of a flashy backcourt trio. Big Ten title contention wasn’t necessarily expected from the Spartans this season, but when coach Tom Izzo’s teams are counted out? Look out. The Spartans are sound. They manage to score 81.3 points per game without a devastating 3-point attack or a dominant scorer. They’re well put together, they’re unselfish, and they play hard. That will carry you far.
• Grade: A+. Izzo defies conventional wisdom by building a team the old-fashioned way – via good high school recruiting, good retention and good player development. Unbeaten in the Big Ten gets an A+.Purdue
Rutgers Scarlet Knights guard Jordan Derkack (0) battles Purdue Boilermakers forward Trey Kaufman-Renn (4) and guard Gicarri Harris (24) for a rebound during the second half at Jersey Mike’s Arena. / Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images • Record: 16-5 overall, 8-2 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 1st.
• Current Big Ten position: 2nd.
• Overview: No one thought Purdue was going to go away in the post-Zach Edey era, and they haven’t. That Braden Smith, the preseason Big Ten Player of the Year, is playing well is no surprise. That Trey Kaufman-Renn is leading Purdue in scoring is a surprise but shouldn’t be because players get better under coach Matt Painter’s tutelage. An underrated Purdue trait is its guard depth.
• Grade: A-. Purdue trails Michigan State by 1 ½ games, the only reason for the minus in the Boilermakers’ grade. Apart from that, it’s the usual steady-as-she-goes in West Lafayette.Michigan
Michigan Wolverines center Vladislav Goldin (50) shoots the ball against UCLA Bruins guard Lazar Stefanovic (10) in the first half at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. / Kirby Lee-Imagn Images • Record: 15-5 overall, 7-2 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 9th.
• Current Big Ten position: 3rd.
• Overview: First-year coach Dusty May quickly built a fascinating team. Michigan’s 9.7 made threes per game ranks 39th nationally, but with 7-footers Vlad Goldin and Danny Wolf the paint is also a danger zone for opponents. Five players average double-digit scoring. It’s a well-balanced team.
• Grade: A. May has done an outstanding job. The last four games, two of them losses, have shown some vulnerabilities, but the Wolverines are back after two dreadful seasons.Wisconsin
Butler Bulldogs forward Jahmyl Telfort (11) defends Wisconsin Badgers guard John Blackwell (25) Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, during the NCAA men’s basketball game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Wisconsin Badgers won 83-74. / Alex Martin/Journal and Courier / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images • Record: 16-4 overall, 6-3 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: tied for 12th.
• Current Big Ten position: 4th.
• Overview: It seems to be an annual exercise in expecting decline to begin in Madison for coach Greg Gard, but he continues to defy his skeptics. The maturation of sophomore guard John Blackwell has made him a force. Gard combined solid veterans like Steven Crowl, Max Klesmit and Nolan Winter with an inspired portal pickup in guard John Tonje. The Badgers are averaging 82.5 points per game, nearly eight better than they did in 2024 and their highest average since the early 1970s.
• Grade: A. The Badgers are dangerous. Their three Big Ten losses have been by no more than six points.Illinois
Illinois Fighting Illini guard Kylan Boswell (4) and Illinois Fighting Illini guard Kasparas Jakucionis (32) celebrate after a play during the first half against the Indiana Hoosiers at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. / Robert Goddin-Imagn Images • Record: 14-6 overall, 6-4 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 4th.
• Current Big Ten position: Three-way tie for 5th.
• Overview: Illinois coach Brad Underwood lost nearly everyone from an Elite Eight team, but did a masterful job in putting the puzzle back together. Guard Kasparas Jakucionis is dazzling at times. His flash is a counterpoint to grittier work done by Kylan Boswell and Tomislav Ivisic. On any given night, Illinois can overwhelm teams – ask both Oregon and Indiana – teams the Fighting Illini roasted on their home floors.
• Grade: B+. For as powerful as Illinois is at its best, the Illini don’t always show up. A home loss to Southern California was baffling (a subsequent home defeat against Maryland was easier explained due to team sickness) and so was a fade job at Northwestern. That dropped their grade, but on their day, Illinois is as good as any Big Ten team.Maryland
Maryland Terrapins guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie (0) drives to the basket as Illinois Fighting Illini guard Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn (2) defends during the second half at State Farm Center. / Ron Johnson-Imagn Images • Record: 16-5 overall, 6-4 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 10th.
• Current Big Ten position: Three-way tie for 5th.
• Overview: Coach Kevin Willard hit the jackpot in both high school recruiting and the portal. Freshman Derik Queen (15.2 ppg, 8.1 rpg) has been great right out of the box, and Belmont transfer point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie (14.6 ppg, 4.7 apg) has been a good fit. The complementary pieces around that pair fit very well.
• Grade: B+. Maryland showed me something by winning a pair of road games in its last two games. That was the one knock against the Terps – that they were great at home and faded on the road. If they can continue that trend, they will continue to rise up the Big Ten charts.UCLA
UCLA Bruins guard Sebastian Mack (12) goes to the basket as Rutgers Scarlet Knights guard Jamichael Davis (1) defends during the first half at Jersey Mike’s Arena. / Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images • Record: 15-6 overall, 6-4 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 3rd.
• Current Big Ten position: Three-way tie for 5th.
• Overview: A strange Big Ten maiden voyage for the Bruins. They lost four straight at the beginning of January, prompting a rant from coach Mick Cronin on their toughness. They’ve won four in a row since, but all on the West Coast. Apart from being a solid defensive team, especially inside the arc where they limit shots, I still don’t think we know what these Bruins are about yet.
• Grade: B-. If Maryland proved something in its recent games, UCLA can’t claim to be a top Big Ten team until it wins east of the Rocky Mountains – something the Bruins have yet to achieve.Oregon
Oregon Ducks guard Jackson Shelstad (3) attempts to dribble the ball against Ohio State Buckeyes guard Evan Mahaffey (12) and guard Bruce Thornton (2) in the second half at Value City Arena on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025 in Columbus, Ohio. / Samantha Madar/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images • Record: 16-4 overall, 5-4 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 6th.
• Current Big Ten position: 8th.
• Overview: Resume-wise, Oregon looks great with wins over Texas A&M and Alabama. Within the Big Ten, however, the form has been inconsistent. The Ducks have a weird stack of scores. Wins at Ohio State and Penn State, but three home losses and a defeat at Minnesota. Befitting that trend, Oregon floats near the middle of the Big Ten in nearly every major team statistical category for offense and defense.
• Grade: B. The Ducks are basically what we thought they would be – very competitive, but not overwhelming.Indiana
Indiana Hoosiers center Oumar Ballo (11) controls the ball as Ohio State Buckeyes forward Sean Stewart (13) defends during the first half at Value City Arena. / Joseph Maiorana-Imagn Images • Record: 14-7 overall, 5-5 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 2nd.
• Current Big Ten position: 9th.
• Overview: Based on preseason expectations, the Hoosiers are under-performing under coach Mike Woodson. Inconsistency in every facet has defined these Hoosiers. A look at Indiana’s record shows decline could be in the cards. Indiana has not beaten a single team above it in the Big Ten standings. Seven of their remaining 10 games are versus teams above them.
• Grade: C-. A segment of Indiana fans will think this grade is way too kind. Another segment will think it’s harsh. The grade would have slipped into D territory, but Indiana has won five league games, so that would be unduly harsh. How much the talent was overrated entering the season, and thus how realistic the expectations were in the first place, is a fair question to ask at this point.Ohio State
Ohio State Buckeyes guard Micah Parrish (8) celebrates a three point shot during the second half against the Purdue Boilermakers at Mackey Arena. / Marc Lebryk-Imagn Images • Record: 12-8 overall, 4-5 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 8th.
• Current Big Ten position: Tied for 10th.
• Overview: Point guard Bruce Thornton has been the veteran presence everyone expected. Ohio State’s other scoring standouts – Devin Royal, Micah Parrish and freshman John Mobley – are a bit more surprising given that there were more highly touted players that were Columbus-bound in the portal.
• Grade: B-. I don’t trust the Buckeyes. Which means I don’t trust them to win or lose when they’re supposed to! There’s talent here, but they haven’t yet figured out how to harness it to attain consistency.Southern California
USC Trojans guard Desmond Claude (1) controls the ball as Illinois Fighting Illini forward Morez Johnson Jr. (21) defends during the second half at State Farm Center. / Ron Johnson-Imagn Images • Record: 12-8 overall, 4-5 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 14th.
• Current Big Ten position: Tied for 10th.
• Overview: Coach Eric Musselman has molded the Trojans into an occasionally dangerous squad – witness road wins at Illinois, Washington and Nebraska. They’re average in almost every way but hit the glass hard, leading the Big Ten in offensive rebounding in conference games.
• Grade: B. No one knew what to make of USC entering the season given that it had an almost completely new roster. What we know now is that they’re hard to play against and they share the scoring with five different players averaging double figures. A solid outfit.Iowa
Iowa Hawkeyes guard Josh Dix (4) dribbles the ball as Ohio State Buckeyes forward Devin Royal (21) defends during the first half at Value City Arena. / Joseph Maiorana-Imagn Images • Record: 13-8 overall, 4-6 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 11th.
• Current Big Ten position: 12th.
• Overview: Iowa is what it is – a good offensive team that can’t defend consistently. Lately, however, even the offense has fallen off. Iowa has scored more than 10 points below its season scoring average in three of its last four games.
• Grade: C. A threat to beat anyone when they’re on, a threat to lose to anyone when they’re not. The definition of average. Hence the grade.Northwestern
Northwestern Wildcats forward Nick Martinelli (2) reacts after the game against the Michigan Wolverines at Crisler Center. / Rick Osentoski-Imagn Images • Record: 12-8 overall, 3-6 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 16th.
• Current Big Ten position: Tied for 13th.
• Overview: Per usual, coach Chris Collins has crafted his Wildcats well. They’re not deep, but they’re tough and the 1-2-3 scoring punch of Nick Martinelli, Brooks Barnhizer and Jalen Leach can be a chore to defend when they’re on their game.
• Grade: B-. Is it ironic that the Big Ten’s most famous academic institution gets graded on a curve? The Wildcats don’t play by the same rules other Big Ten teams do by their own choice, so while they’re in the fight to avoid missing out on the Big Ten Tournament, wins over Illinois, Maryland and Indiana attest to their competitiveness.Rutgers
Rutgers Scarlet Knights guard/forward Ace Bailey (4) looks to shoot the ball as Penn State Nittany Lions guard Nick Kern Jr (3) defends during the second half at Bryce Jordan Center. Penn State defeated Rutgers 80-72. / Matthew O’Haren-Imagn Images • Record: 10-10 overall, 3-6 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 7th.
• Current Big Ten position: Tied for 13th.
• Overview: Super freshmen Ace Bailey (19.8 ppg) and Dylan Harper (18.6 ppg) have brought the goods as advertised. However, that’s about all the Scarlet Knights have. Rutgers’ defensive mentality, which has defined them under coach Steve Pikiell, has dissipated. The Scarlet Knights are giving away 75.2 points per game, seven points worse than any previous Pikiell-coached Rutgers team.
• Grade: C-. The Top 25 preseason ranking Rutgers got seems laughable now, a case study in how everyone gets too caught up in stars over how teams mesh. Seeing Rutgers conceding points in the way that it has is just jarring.Minnesota
Minnesota Golden Gophers forward Dawson Garcia (3) controls the ball as Iowa Hawkeyes forward Owen Freeman (32) defends during the first half at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. / Jeffrey Becker-Imagn Images • Record: 11-10 overall, 3-7 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 18th.
• Current Big Ten position: Tied for 15th.
• Overview: It was looking hopeless in Minneapolis when the Golden Gophers were 0-6 in league play with no wins against any Power Four schools. However, there is hope at Williams Arena as Minnesota has won three of four, including wins over ranked Michigan and Oregon.
• Grade: C+. Let this be the latest article to say that Ben Johnson is a good coach without a good situation at Minnesota in terms of recruiting and NIL. He’s making the best of it, though, and if Minnesota continues to improve? He deserves a standing ovation.Penn State
Penn State Nittany Lions guard Ace Baldwin Jr. (1) dribbles against Michigan Wolverines guard Roddy Gayle Jr. (11) in the second half at Crisler Center. / Rick Osentoski-Imagn Images • Record: 13-8 overall, 3-7 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 17th.
• Current Big Ten position: Tied for 15th.
• Overview: How many fans outside of the Keystone State would know that Penn State has six players averaging double figures? Penn State’s scoring hasn’t been quite as prolific in the Big Ten, and stopping anyone is a problem – Penn State gives up 48.2% from the field and 79.4 points in conference contests.
• Grade: B-. Could have gone C+, but I err on the side of being nice. Penn State has settled into its rep as a Hard Team To Play Against in the Big Ten. A compliment, but it also means the Nittany Lions aren’t a likely threat to crack the top half of the league – and that they can be had if your team is on its game.Nebraska
Nebraska Cornhuskers guard Brice Williams (3) handles the ball during the first half against the Maryland Terrapins at Xfinity Center. / Reggie Hildred-Imagn Images • Record: 12-8 overall, 2-7 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: tied for 12th.
• Current Big Ten position: 17th.
• Overview: The Cornhuskers are in a freefall having lost six in a row. A big reason is defense. The Huskers are giving up 81.2 points per game. Scoring outside of Brice Williams and Juwan Gary has also been inconsistent.
• Grade: C-. While no one thought Nebraska would contend near the top of the league, many thought the Huskers could build on their positive 2024 season and at least maintain their spot near the middle of the Big Ten. A relatively tough remaining schedule won’t make things any easier in Lincoln.Washington
Washington Huskies forward Great Osobor (1) dribbles against the Oregon Ducks during the second half at Matthew Knight Arena. / Craig Strobeck-Imagn Images • Record: 10-10 overall, 1-8 Big Ten.
• Preseason Big Ten prediction: 15th.
• Current Big Ten position: 18th.
• Overview: Not much was expected from the Huskies, but somehow they seem even worse than anticipated. Forward Great Osobor (15.5 ppg, 8.6 rpg) has performed as expected, but no one else has really stepped up for coach Danny Sprinkle as Washington only averages 65.4 points in Big Ten games.
• Grade: D+. A hope for Washington going into the season was that it could protect its home court to tread water, but the Huskies are 1-4 in Big Ten home games, and that’s why their grade is low. Good news for Washington is that all of its remaining home games are against teams eighth or lower in the Big Ten standings.
As we reach the midway point of the Big Ten men’s basketball season, it’s time to evaluate the performance of each team so far. Here are the mid-season grades for each Big Ten team:Illinois Fighting Illini: A-
Illinois has been one of the top teams in the conference, with key wins over ranked opponents. They have shown great potential and are poised for a strong finish to the season.Indiana Hoosiers: C
Indiana has had some ups and downs this season, with inconsistent play and some tough losses. They will need to improve in the second half of the season to make a push for the NCAA Tournament.Iowa Hawkeyes: A+
Iowa has been dominant this season, led by star player Luka Garza. They are a top contender for the Big Ten title and a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.Michigan Wolverines: B+
Michigan has had a solid season so far, with key wins and a strong showing in conference play. They will need to continue their strong play in the second half of the season.Michigan State Spartans: C-
Michigan State has struggled this season, with losses to unranked opponents and inconsistent play. They will need to turn things around quickly to salvage their season.Minnesota Golden Gophers: B
Minnesota has had a solid season, with some key wins and competitive play in the Big Ten. They will need to continue to improve to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament.Ohio State Buckeyes: B-
Ohio State has had a mixed season, with some strong wins and some tough losses. They will need to improve their consistency in the second half of the season.Wisconsin Badgers: A
Wisconsin has been one of the top teams in the Big Ten, with strong play on both ends of the court. They are a serious contender for the conference title and a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.Overall, the Big Ten has been highly competitive this season, with several teams vying for the top spot. It will be exciting to see how the rest of the season unfolds and which teams will come out on top.

Big Ten men’s basketball power rankings: Maryland makes jump
We’ve cracked the halfway point of the Big Ten Conference men’s basketball season, and if some of the preseason championship favorites want to be involved they’d better wake up.
Preseason No. 1 Purdue remains right there in striking distance of still-unbeaten Michigan State. Winning in East Lansing in a couple of weeks might be crucial, though.
The ship has probably sailed for preseason No. 2 Indiana. Hoosiers need to focus on not completely embarrassing themselves and missing the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis.
Mick Cronin already grumbles about preseason No. 3 UCLA’s travel burden and has not yet been to Champaign or West Lafayette. All of the analytics sites still love preseason No. 4 Illinois. Like the Bruins, though, the Fighting Illini already hold four losses and might need to run the table to hoist the trophy.
How I’m ranking them 1-18 this week:

Big Ten men’s basketball power rankings: Maryland makes jumpAfter a strong week of performances, the Maryland Terrapins have made a significant jump in the Big Ten men’s basketball power rankings. With key wins over ranked opponents and standout performances from their star players, the Terrapins have solidified their position as a top team in the conference.
Maryland’s impressive victories have been led by their dynamic duo of Eric Ayala and Aaron Wiggins, who have been lighting up the scoreboard and making big plays in clutch moments. Their strong play has propelled the Terrapins to the top of the standings and has caught the attention of the rest of the conference.
As the season continues, Maryland will look to build on their recent success and continue their climb up the rankings. With tough matchups ahead, including games against other top teams in the Big Ten, the Terrapins will have the opportunity to prove themselves as one of the best teams in the conference.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Big Ten men’s basketball power rankings as the season progresses.

The Rock has not been confirmed to wrestle at WWE WrestleMania 41. (Credit: WWE/Getty Images)
The 2025 men’s WWE Royal Rumble features arguably the most star-studded field in the match’s storied history, and the field is wide open.
With the likes of CM Punk, John Cena, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins among the participants in the 30-man Royal Rumble, there is no clear-cut favorite to win the match and the guaranteed WrestleMania world title shot that comes with it. Just over half the field has been confirmed for the bout, too, which creates even more uncertainty heading into the match.
Reported high-profile WrestleMania bouts like Cena vs. Cody Rhodes or Gunther vs. Rollins seemingly have positioned stars like Cena and Rollins as the Royal Rumble favorites. Yet, any reported WrestleMania 41 creative plans could go up in smoke if and when a surprise entrant spoils the party.
And rest assured, there are plenty of marquee names who could return in the 2025 WWE Royal Rumble as a blockbuster surprise entrant.
Randy Orton
Randy Orton is expected to return at the WWE Royal Rumble after being written off TV late last year due to a storyline attack by Kevin Owens.
That leaves two potential paths for a return for “The Viper.” One, he returns to confront Owens during his WWE Championship match with Rhodes, either costing Owens the match or attacking him afterward. Two, Orton returns within the men’s Royal Rumble and perhaps even wins it to set up a WrestleMania title match with Owens or maybe even Rhodes.
Orton, a two-time Royal Rumble winner, was generating electrifying crowd reactions prior to his hiatus, so rest assured that his return will be met with open arms by WWE fans. Whether that is Orton confronting Owens as a babyface or turning heel on Rhodes remains to be seen.
But if Orton shows up at Lucas Oil Stadium in any way, it will be a memorable moment with major WrestleMania ramifications.
AJ Styles
WWE is reportedly hopeful that AJ Styles can return for the 2025 Royal Rumble, but “The Phenomenal One” may be touch and go.
In response to a fan’s question on X, the former WWE Champion described his Lisfranc injury—suffered in October 2024—as “challenging,” and he remains sideliend. Styles’ absence on SmackDown has been noticeable, as the blue brand has been relatively thin in the main event scene.
If Styles is indeed cleared to return, that would position him for yet another unforgettable Royal Rumble moment. It was, of course, in the 2016 Royal Rumble that Styles made his epic WWE debut, which was virtually unfathomable just a few years prior.
If Styles—a beloved star whether he’s a heel or babyface—returns within the 2025 Royal Rumble, it would provide an instant boost to SmackDown and potentially set up a major WrestleMania match for one of the greatest in-ring performers of all-time.
Joe Hendry
With WWE making its partnership with TNA official, it’s likely that multiple TNA talents will appear in both the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches.
There is arguably no potential Royal Rumble debut more highly anticipated, however, than that of Joe Hendry. The current TNA World Champion, Hendry became one of the hottest acts in all of pro wrestling in 2024 and even made the crossover to NXT, but he never showed up on Raw or SmackDown.
Hendry, though, has already hinted at a potential Royal Rumble appearance and will be in Indianapolis for the Royal Rumble week festivities. Given WWE’s working relationship with TNA, Hendry is seemingly set to follow in the footsteps of Mickie James, who appeared in the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble while holding the TNA Knockouts World Championship.
It’s essentially a no-brainer for Hendry to appear and potentially set up a crossover feud with a WWE star for the TNA world title.
Goldberg
WWE has confirmed that Goldberg will wrestle a retirement match in 2025, paving the way for a once improbable Royal Rumble return.
Goldberg was once reportedly slated to return on last week’s Raw, and though that obviously didn’t happen, that same report has linked Goldberg to a match with Gunther, the current World Heavyweight Champion. That certainly is a logical direction given their interaction on Raw last year, but it’s complicated by the fact that Gunther is champion.
Would WWE really run Gunther vs. Goldberg as a WrestleMania world title match in 2025? That seems less likely with Triple H in charge, but in WWE, you can never say never. Even if Gunther and Goldberg aren’t planned for a WrestleMania bout with a title on the line, however, it’s likely not a coincidence that Goldberg was expected to return on Raw but didn’t.
Perhaps he didn’t show up on Raw purely to save his return for the Royal Rumble match.
The Rock
The reality is that The Rock is the glue that either holds WrestleMania 41 together or makes it fall apart.
It is, after all, well known that The Rock’s presence looms large, even when he’s not present at all. Given The Rock’s interaction with Cody Rhodes on the Raw on Netflix premiere, that seemingly scrapped any possibility of Rock vs. Rhodes—the once obvious direction—at WrestleMania 41.
Then again, maybe it didn’t, or perhaps The Rock could face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 41. Or The Rock potentially could have no role at WrestleMania at all.
That’s the thing with The Rock. Even when he’s nowhere near WWE programming, his connections to top stars ranging from Rhodes to Reigns to Cena mean that he can’t ever really be counted out. WWE even subtly dropped a major tease during the Royal Rumble Kickoff that The Rock could show up in Indianapolis:
The Rock returning as the surprise No. 30 entrant in the most loaded WWE Royal Rumble ever would be perfectly befitting of his character and potentially set the stage for a blockbuster WrestleMania match with any number of top stars.
With the Royal Rumble just around the corner, speculation is running wild on who the surprise entrants could be. One name that keeps popping up is none other than The Rock. The wrestling legend has teased a return to the ring, and what better stage than the Royal Rumble? But aside from The Rock, here are 5 possible surprise entrants that could shake things up in the men’s Royal Rumble match:
1. John Cena – The 16-time World Champion has been focusing on his acting career, but a surprise return at the Royal Rumble would send shockwaves through the WWE Universe.
2. CM Punk – The voice of the voiceless has been rumored to be in talks with WWE, and a surprise appearance at the Royal Rumble would be a dream come true for many fans.
3. Brock Lesnar – The Beast Incarnate is always a threat whenever he enters a match, and a surprise return at the Royal Rumble could lead to some epic showdowns.
4. Edge – The Rated-R Superstar made a surprise return at last year’s Royal Rumble, and fans would love to see him make another unexpected appearance this year.
5. Keith Lee – The former NXT Champion has been out of action due to injury, but a surprise return at the Royal Rumble would be a welcome sight for fans who have been missing him in the ring.
With The Rock and these potential surprise entrants in the mix, the men’s Royal Rumble match is sure to be an exciting and unpredictable event. Who do you think will make a surprise appearance at this year’s Royal Rumble? Let us know in the comments below!

Men’s Basketball Returns Home for Wolverines Saturday
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men’s basketball returns to Jersey Mikes Arena for the first time since January 13 as the Scarlet Knights will host Michigan at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be broadcast nationally on FOX with Kevin Kugler and the 5th selection in the 1992 NBA Draft, LaPhonso Ellis, on the call.
Rutgers returns to Jersey Mike’s Arena after four straight contests away from the venue. That stretch included three true road games (at Nebraska, at Penn State, at Northwestern) and a home game at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The Scarlet Knights enter the game at 11-10 overall and 4-6 in Big Ten play following a 79-72 victory at Northwestern behind a virtuoso performance from freshman Ace Bailey. The Scarlet Knights stand within a crowded pack in the league standings as one of eight teams between 4 and 6 wins.
RU has won three of the past five games. The team is looking for its first stretch of four wins in six games since opening the season with a 5-1 mark.
Rutgers shot 57.1 percent from the field against the Wildcats, the best shooting performance in a Big Ten game since 2023. The mark from three-point range was also 57.1 percent, which was the best in a Big Ten game since 2022. Ace Bailey keyed the offense, as he posted 37 points on 13-of-20 shooting, 5-of-8 from 3-point, 6-of-6 from the free throw line, six rebounds and three blocks.
Bailey became the first Division I freshman to log multiple 35-point games on the road since Trae Young in 2017-18. His 37-6-3 stat line has been reached just three times this season (twice by him) and just nine times by a freshman since 2007 and only previously by players ultimately selected No. 1 or No. 2 in the NBA Draft (Kevin Durant, Michael Beasley, Ben Simmons, Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Edwards). It was the most points by a visiting player at Welsh-Ryan Arena
Bailey’s January stretch in Big Ten play has been red hot, starting with a 39 point outburst against Indiana. Bailey has posted 194 points in eight January Big Ten games, averaging 24.3 points per game in that stretch. He also averages 9.2 rebounds per game in that eight-game stretch. In his last six games, Bailey has made 26-of-29 free throws (89.6%). In his last four games, Bailey has made 15-of-25 three-pointers (60%).
Bailey has the two highest scoring games in Big Ten play this season (39 at Indiana, 37 at Northwestern). He’s made 13 field goals in a league game three times, while the rest of the conference has only done it three times. It was his third game this season of 30+ points and 10th game of 20+ points. Bailey’s averaging 22.1 points per game in league play, best in the league. He also moved up to 10th nationally overall in points per game.
Bailey and Harper each have two games this season with 36+ points. Only one other freshmen this season has scored 36+ points in a game this season (Cooper Flagg, 42 points vs. Notre Dame).
They are the only pair of two freshmen from the same team to score 36 or more points in a game twice in a season since 2004. The only players to have 3 or more games of 36+ points since 2004 are Michael Beasley (2007-08, four times, Kansas State), Kevin Durant (2006-07, four times, Texas), Rodney Stuckey (2005-06, three times, Eastern Washington) and Trae Young (2017-18, five times, Oklahoma).
RU, who has never averaged more than 69 points per game under head coach Steve Pikiell is averaging 76.6 points per game this season. Rutgers has averaged over 76.5 points per game just 14 times in the school’s 111-year history (and not since 1992-92). The last time RU averaged over even 70 points per game was 2013-14 (71.1 ppg). RU has averaged over 70 points per game for a full season just that one time since the start of the 2001-02 season.
Freshmen Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper are approaching historic ranks for their scoring output among Rutgers’ freshmen, each among the top scoring seasons by a true freshman Scarlet Knight.
Bailey (394 points) surpassed Geo Baker last game and is just one point behind Hollis Copeland for entering the top five of all RU true freshmen scorers. Dylan Harper (354 points) stands just one point behind Ricky Shields and four points behind Baker.
Rutgers True Freshmen Season Scoring Leaders: Total Points
- Mike Rosario (08-09): 517
- Phil Sellers (72-73): 506
- Corey Sanders (15-16): 430
- Quincy Douby (03-04): 412
- Hollis Copeland (74-75): 395
- Ace Bailey (24-25): 394
- Geo Baker (17-18): 358
- Ricky Shields (01-02): 355
- Dylan Harper (24-25): 354
Under first-year head coach Dusty May, Michigan enters the matchup at 15-5 overall and 7-2 in the conference. UM is just 5-5 away from home however (3-2 in road games, 2-3 at neutral sites). The Wolverines have lost two of their last three games (overtime at Minnesota, home win over Northwestern, 27-point loss at No. 11 Purdue). Prior to that, was a five-game winning streak and a 14-3 start to the season that saw them ranked as high as No. 14 in the country.
Vlad Goldin leads the team in scoring at 15.7 points per game, one of five Wolverines in double-figures (Tre Donaldson, Danny Wolf, Roddy Gayle Jr. and Nimari Burnett are all between 10.7 and 12.9 points per game). Wolf leads the team with 9.8 rebounds, while Donaldson has a team-high 85 assists.
The team is keyed by a pair of 7-footers inside. Both Goldin (33 blocks) and Wolf (29 blocks) are in the top-10 in the league in rejections. Goldin shoots 63.5% from the field, in the top-10 nationally, while Wolf’s 7.55 defensive rebounds per game are also in the top-10 nationally.
As a team, Michigan shoots 49.9 percent from the field, averages 17.9 assists and 83.2 points per game. All three rank in the top-25 in the country.
Michigan leads the all-time series 16-4. However, RU has won three straight games and four of the past six contests in the series since 2022 after the Wolverines won the first 14 games. The current three-game winning streak has come at three separate venues (2023 Big Ten Tournament at the United Center in Chicago, Crisler Center in February 2024, Jersey Mike’s Arena in February 2024). The Scarlet Knights won by a 30-point margin in the last meeting, the largest margin of victory in the all-time series. Prior wins included a second half comeback for a 69-59 win at the Crisler Center, and a defensive effort in the Big Ten Tournament, where RU limited UM to 19 percent shooting in a 62-50 win. Rutgers has held Michigan under 60 points in each of the past three games.
- Fourth straight win over Michigan
- Five wins in the past seven games against Michigan
- Four wins in the past six games
The game against Michigan is the first of a three-home games in four span. RU remains at home to host No. 18/20 Illinois on Wednesday Feb. 5. After a trip to Maryland, the Scarlet Knights are back home on Feb. 12 to host Iowa.
The men’s basketball team is gearing up for their highly anticipated home game this Saturday against the Wolverines. After a successful road trip, they are excited to showcase their skills in front of their loyal fans once again. The team has been working hard in practice and is ready to take on their opponents on their home court. #Mens #Basketball #Returns #Home #Wolverines #SaturdayMen’s Basketball falls 72-69 at No. 23/23 Ole Miss
OXFORD, Miss. — Freshman guard Tre Johnson recorded a game-high 22 points, but Texas (14-7, 3-5 SEC) fell 72-69 at No. 23/23 Ole Miss (16-5, 5-3 SEC) on Wednesday night in the Sandy and John Black Pavilion at Ole Miss. The Rebels marked the seventh AP-ranked opponent that the Longhorns have faced in their last eight contests.
The back-and-forth contest featured 14 lead changes and 11 ties. Johnson converted 6-of-16 field goals and 8-of-8 free throws to go along with three assists against just one turnover in 33 minutes. Senior Arthur Kaluma added 12 points (5-12 FG), a game-high seven rebounds and tied his season high with four assists in 36 minutes.
Texas jumped out to an 11-2 advantage following a Ze’Rik Onyema layup at the 15:18 mark. Ole Miss answered with a 10-1 spurt over the next two-plus minutes to tie the contest at 12-12 after a Jaemyn Brakefield jumper with 12:54 remaining.
A Brakefield layup gave the Rebels a 17-16 advantage at the 10:15 mark, before the Longhorns went on a 16-2 run over the next four-and-a-half minutes to build a 32-19 cushion following a Devon Pryor follow dunk with 5:43 left. A Pryor jumper gave Texas a 36-25 advantage at the 3:46 mark, but Ole Miss closed out the half on a 9-2 run to pull to within 38-34 at the break.
The Rebels used an 8-2 spurt in the first three minutes of the second half to take a 42-40 advantage after a Brakefield free throw with 17:11 left. The contest remained a one-possession game until a Dre Davis dunk in transition gave Ole Miss a 63-58 cushion at the 5:02 mark.
The Rebels took a 66-61 lead following a Davis free throw with 3:18 remaining, before Texas responded with five-straight points to tie the game at 68-68 after a Kadin Shedrick dunk at the 1:25 mark. A Kaluma free throw pulled the Longhorns to within 70-69 with 49 seconds left.
After a defensive stop, the Longhorns had a chance to take the lead but Johnson could not convert a running floater off the glass with 12 seconds remaining. Davon Barnes hit a pair of free throws with eight seconds left to increase the Ole Miss cushion to 72-69. Johnson missed a three-point attempt from the left corner that could have forced overtime, and the Rebels claimed the win.
Texas returns to the court when it travels to face LSU on Saturday, Feb. 1. Tip is scheduled for 5 p.m. Central at the Maravich Assembly Center, and the contest will be televised nationally by SEC Network.

In a hard-fought battle, the Men’s Basketball team suffered a tough 72-69 loss on the road against No. 23/23 Ole Miss. Despite a valiant effort, the team just couldn’t pull off the upset against a ranked opponent. The game was back and forth throughout, with both teams trading leads and big shots. The atmosphere was electric as the players left it all on the court in pursuit of victory. Unfortunately, in the end, Ole Miss was able to come out on top in a close contest.
Although the outcome was not what we had hoped for, the team showed great resilience and determination in their performance. They fought until the final buzzer and never gave up, which is a testament to their character and spirit.
As we regroup and look ahead to the next game, we are confident that the team will learn from this loss and come back stronger. There are still plenty of games left in the season, and we believe that this setback will only fuel their motivation to bounce back and achieve success.
Let’s continue to support our Men’s Basketball team as they continue to battle and compete with all their heart and soul. Go team! #WeBelieve #GoTeam.

#Arizona #Wildcats #mens #basketball #Iowa #State #Game #time #odds #streaming #infoASU men’s basketball chasing quality win vs. Arizona
The Arizona State men’s basketball team has gotten off to a tough start in the Big 12. It’s the toughest conference in the country and the Sun Devils are competing in it for the first time.
Most projections have ASU (12-8, 3-6) on the outside of the March Madness field. The Big 12 play affords the Sun Devils several opportunities to notch quality wins and work their way back into the picture.
One of those comes at 11 a.m. Saturday as the rival Arizona Wildcats (14-6, 8-1) visit Desert Financial Arena in a game that will air on CBS.
“We want to try and climb out of a hole we dug for ourselves,” ASU coach Bobby Hurley said after the team’s win over Colorado earlier this week. “We’ve dealt with a lot of stuff with injuries and we’re still dealing with it.”
“We had the No. 3 strength of schedule in KenPom so we’ve been in a lot of tough places, played a lot of hard games on the road already and in the Big 12 and in the nonconference, neutral sites. These guys are learning how to fight together and we gotta clean some things up. We have to close games better.”
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
The biggest question surrounding ASU will be the availability of personnel. Hurley has relied on an eight-man rotation but he was down to six players in Tuesday’s 70-68 win at Colorado because freshman big Jayden Quaintance (10.3 ppg, 8.5 rpg) was out with an ankle injury sustained in practice while leading scorer B.J. Freeman (12.5 ppg, 4.1 rpg) exited with a deep thigh bruise early in the first half and didn’t return.
In their absence, others stepped up, most notably senior guard Adam Miller and junior center Shawn Phillips. Miller scored 18 points, including a 4-for-5 effort from long range, with Phillips adding 13 points, nine rebounds, and two blocked shots. Miller (10.1 ppg) and fellow guard Alston Mason (11.6 ppg) each played 39 minutes in that game.
Hurley said after the game that Freeman took a knee to the thigh, “one of those basketball plays that happens all the time” and that he already was walking better after the game.
Quaintance, who has six double-doubles, remains the question mark. He didn’t make the trip to Colorado, staying in Tempe so he could get treatment with the hope of playing against Arizona. He leads the conference in blocked shots and is fourth in rebounding.
Joson Sanon (11.8 ppg) missed five games with a sprained ankle and hasn’t yet got the shooting touch back he had before getting hurt.
“Guys have stepped up,” Miller said. “We did it even against West Virginia. We’ve kind of been going through it, guys have to be ready. When the opportunity comes up, you’re not going to make every shot, just be ready.”
Meanwhile, Arizona comes in having turned its fortunes around in conference play. The Wildcats were just 6-5 through the nonconference slate and did not boast a win over a power conference program.
In Big 12 play they sit second, just behind No. 6 Houston (17-3, 9-0), and have posted four wins over nationally ranked teams, the most notable being No. 3 Iowa State.
