    Por fin hubo noticias de Alberto Gamero, luego de su sorpresiva renuncia a la dirección técnica de Millonarios el pasado 31 de diciembre de 2024.

    Luego de su salida del equipo embajador, en donde estuvo en las últimas cinco temporadas, se especuló mucho sobre el futuro de la carrera del técnico colombiano. Así, FUTBOLRED supo que no tenía decidido si dirigir de inmediato o tomarse un tiempo para volver a trabajar en otro equipo.

    El entrenador samario reapareció 16 días después, y sorprendió nuevamente, pues no está en Colombia, sino en el exterior, en la sede deportiva de un club que por estos días está dando de qué hablar en el mercado de fichajes.

    Gamero está por estos días en México, y este jueves 16 de enero el Club León publicó un video en el que registró la visita del entrenador colombiano a su sede deportiva para observar los trabajos de pretemporada que adelanta el argentino Eduardo Berizzo.

    “Me he encontrado con una serie de personas muy agradables, muy amigas, familia, y me ha sorprendido la institución, una muy organizada, una institución que siempre quiere crecer y que está creciendo, un grande del fútbol mexicano y ojalá que pueda venir aquí a aprender. El profe Berizzo ayer tuvo un diálogo de amistad, me quería conocer, yo lo quería conocer a él, es un técnico muy recorrido, uno de mucha categoría y que le brinde a uno la oportunidad de venir aquí para mí es algo grande”, dijo Gamero en la cuenta oficial de León.

    ¿Gamero dirigirá en el exterior?

    El deseo de Alberto Gamero es mirar fútbol, maneras de trabajar de otros entrenadores, y por eso llamó a Edgar Guerra, exMillonarios que juega para el Club León, para poder acceder al equipo mexicano y aprender.

    Según consultó FUTBOLRED con el entorno del técnico, la idea del ‘profe’ Gamero es observar los trabajos de otros equipos en México, como Xolos de Tijuana, que dirige su compatriota Juan Carlos Osorio.

    Sin embargo, asegura la fuente que por el momento no hay una opción para que Gamero dirija en el primer semestre del 2025. “Por ahora quiere estudiar, refrescar conceptos, y luego abrirse a alguna posibilidad, sea en Colombia o si se le da una posibilidad afuera del país”, aseguraron cercanos al samario.

  • New Mexico to get $1.6M from settlement with Cash App parent company


    SANTA FE, N.M. — New Mexico will get around $1.6 million from the parent company of Cash App as a part of a multistate settlement reached this week.

    Block Inc. agreed this week to pay an $80 million penalty to 48 state agencies, including the New Mexico Financial Institutions Division. State regulators in Arkansas, California, Massachusetts, Florida, Maine, Texas and Washington led the effort.

    Regulators alleged Block Inc. wasn’t in compliance with certain requirements of the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering laws. They also alleged this made the company’s services more vulnerable to used for money laundering, terrorism financing or “other illegal activities.”

    In addition to the settlement money, Block Inc. will also need to hire an independent consultant to review the “comprehensiveness and effectiveness” of its BSA/AML programs. Then, the company will need to submit a report to the states within nine months and correct any “deficiencies” found in the review after they file the report.

    New Mexico will get $1,647,000 from this settlement. The state’s regulation and licensing department is expecting that money to arrive in early-February.

    Despite the loss, New Mexico had strong showings from Nelly Junior Joseph, who went 7 for 10 en route to 20 points plus six rebounds, and Donovan Dent, who posted 17 points along with five assists. Junior Joseph’s performance made up for a slower matchup against San Diego State on Saturday.

    Boise State is on a roll lately: they’ve won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for New Mexico, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-4.

    Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Boise State hasn’t had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 78.7 points per game. However, it’s not like New Mexico struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging 83.2. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.

    Boise State is hoping to beat the odds on Friday, as the experts think they’re headed for a loss. They might be worth a quick bet since they’ve covered the spread the last three times they’ve played.

    My Boise State vs New Mexico College Basketball Betting Preview

    On Tuesday, Boise drilled Wyoming, while New Mexico lost outright to San Jose State, which snapped the Lobos’ 6-0 start in Mountain West play.

    Thus, books are shading this line toward the Lobos, making them 3.5-point favorites when I would make the number closer to one.

    The Broncos’ game plan is always the same: They play almost exclusively through the paint in posting and rolling actions, with Tyson Degenhart dropping over 18 points per game.

    Boise is shooting over 60% from 2-point range in conference play while leading all Mountain West teams in offensive rebounding rate (36%, per KenPom).

    It could be challenging for Boise to establish its offense here, as the Lobos are an elite post-up (.74 PPP allowed, 87th percentile, per Synergy) and rolling (.88 PPP allowed, 80th percentile, per Synergy) defense.

    Nelly Junior Joseph is still an elite defensive anchor, and the Lobos have plenty of size on the front line when you throw in Mustapha Amzil, Filip Borovicanin and Atiki Ally Atiki.

    Overall, the Lobos lead the Mountain West in 2-point shooting allowed (43%, per KenPom) and rank second in defensive rebounding rate (67%, per KenPom). Boise State will try to live at the rim, but New Mexico likely denies that.

    New Mexico is also a rim-reliant squad, pressuring the rim in transition and leaning on its front-line size in post-up sets.

    The Broncos are an elite transition-denial, rim-denial and post-denial defense, and I suspect Degenhart, O’Mar Stanley and Dylan Anderson will be able to hang down low.

    However, I don’t trust Boise’s guards and wings to stay in front of Donovan Dent off the dribble. Dent is among the nation’s best ball-screen maestros in the way he can weave to the basket, and the Broncos are a below-average ball-screen and dribble defense (.79 PPP allowed, 39th percentile, per Synergy).

    Ultimately, I believe Dent will be the difference-maker, as Boise doesn’t have the same level of guard creation, preferring to play bully ball against an elite interior defense.

    That, plus the situational spot, leads me to believe the Lobos get the job done at The Pit.

    But I can’t lay over a possession, given where I project the spread.

    If I had to bet on this game, I’d likely take New Mexico at the cheapest moneyline price. Boise State ranks 356th nationally in Haslametrics Away-From-Home metric, so it’s hard to see the Broncos overcoming the fired-up Lobos and picking up a massive road win.

  • Republicans pledge Remain in Mexico policy will return under Trump | National


    (The Center Square) – Border-focused Republicans are eagerly awaiting the next Trump administration, and with it, the return of Remain in Mexico, an immigration policy that makes migrants who illegally cross the border to claim asylum wait in Mexico for their court date, rather than being released into the U.S. under parole.

    During a U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs hearing, witnesses confirmed to lawmakers that the president has the statutory power to reimplement the 2019 program, also known as Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), but added that Congress must do its part.

    “Congress must provide the president the resources he needs to accomplish that task,” Andrew R. Arthur from the Center for Immigration Studies testified. “But the current and incoming presidents, like their immediate predecessors, already have ample statutory authorities in the INA to secure the border. How and whether the president chooses to use those authorities, however, is up to him.”

    Remain in Mexico in particular is a crucial tool to combat the immigration crisis, he added, because successfully deterring illegal immigration starts before migrants physically reach the border. If potential migrants know the president is serious about securing the border, many of them will decide the risks and costs of travel are not worth the slim chances of success.

    Under the Biden administration, which scrapped Remain in Mexico and many other border security policies, more than 12 million migrants have illegally tried to cross the border. In fiscal year 2024 alone, nearly 3 million migrants crossed or attempted to cross the border.

    But Adam Isacson, director for Defense Oversight at the Washington Office on Latin America, testified against MPP, claiming it had “proved to be only a modest deterrent” as fewer than 68,000 migrants were returned to Mexico to await their asylum hearings when the program was in full swing.

    Additionally, he said, the policy had enriched Mexican cartels who exploited migrants waiting in northern Mexico.

    “By requiring non-Mexicans to linger for months or even years in border cities, Remain in Mexico created a rich new income stream for cartels,” Isacson said. “[T]hose made to Remain in Mexico were very motivated to pay extortions or ransoms because they could not miss their court dates. If migrants despaired of the MPP process, migrant smugglers – ‘coyotes’ – were waiting to take them across the border for a hefty fee.”

    Arthur disagreed with Isacson’s assertion that Remain in Mexico failed to work. Taking the 68,000 number without factoring in other statistics presents a misleading picture of the program’s efficacy, he said. 

    According to CBP data, agents encountered roughly 144,000 migrants attempting to cross the Southwest border in May 2019. By September of that year, after MPP had been operating for months and news of it had spread, encounters dropped to roughly 52,000 monthly. And in February 2020, CBP encountered fewer than 37,000 migrants.

    So the relatively low number of migrants sent to Mexico resulted from CBP encountering fewer migrants due to the MPP deterring people from traveling to cross the border in the first place, Arthur said.

    Kenneth Cuccinelli, former acting Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from 2019 to 2021, added that the claim MPP enriched cartels is also false, because the drop in people who attempted to make the journey subsequently led to the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars for the cartels who transport migrants to the border.

    “The idea that the cartels benefitted from the Remain in Mexico program is relatively ludicrous compared to the alternative,” Cuccinelli said. “And the alternative we’ve lived with the last four years has been the greatest enriching of the most evil and vicious people in the Western Hemisphere.”

    Remain in Mexico could further depress migrant numbers by incentivizing Mexico to do its part and protect its own borders, Cuccinelli said. If thousands of migrants seeking asylum will remain in Mexico for long stretches of time – migrants coming from multiple unstable countries – Mexico will likely ban migrants from using its country as a route to the U.S.

    “The real success of programs like the Remain in Mexico program is not just that they screen out fake asylum seekers, but that they help deter illegal aliens from coming in the first place,” Cuccinelli said. “The goal of true border security is to be so effective at keeping attempted illegal entrants out, that they never try to come in the first place.”



    Republicans pledge Remain in Mexico policy will return under Trump

    In a recent statement, Republican lawmakers have pledged to reinstate the controversial Remain in Mexico policy if former President Donald Trump is re-elected in 2024. The policy, officially known as the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), required asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their cases were processed in the United States.

    Critics of the policy argued that it put migrants in danger and violated their rights, while supporters claimed it was necessary to address the surge of asylum seekers at the southern border. The policy was implemented by the Trump administration in 2019 and remained in place until President Joe Biden ended it shortly after taking office.

    With the recent surge of migrants at the border, Republican lawmakers are calling for the reinstatement of the Remain in Mexico policy as a way to deter illegal immigration and enforce stricter border control measures. They believe that the policy is necessary to protect national security and prevent the abuse of the asylum system.

    The pledge to bring back the Remain in Mexico policy under a potential Trump presidency in 2024 has sparked debate among politicians and immigration advocates. While some argue that the policy is necessary to address the border crisis, others believe it is inhumane and ineffective in addressing the root causes of migration.

  • SpaceX seeking permit to splash down in Pacific, Gulf of Mexico and Indian Ocean : Maui Now

    Public comments are due Jan. 17 on Elon Musk’s plans for his SpaceX rockets to splash down in a much wider area, including Hawaiian waters and 240 nautical miles east of the Papahānaumokuākea National Marine Sanctuary.

    The proposed larger landing zone is part of SpaceX’s application for experimental permits and a vehicle operator license from the FAA Office of Commercial Space Transportation to operate its Starship/Super Heavy launch vehicle from Boca Chica in Cameron County, Texas.

    SpaceX proposes to increase the Starship’s heavy landings from 5 to 10 to up to 25 Starship and 25 Super Heavy landings annually. Plans call for landing at the vehicle launch area or on floating platforms in the ocean.

    Some vehicles would be reused while others would be “expended in the ocean” in three ways, depending on the stage of the program’s development.

    Those three ways are:

    1. Hard water landing at terminal velocity and break up on impact resulting in an explosive event at the surface of the water.
    2. Soft water landing and tip over and sink or explode on impact at the surface of the water.
    3. In-flight breakup – Breakup during reentry resulting in debris falling into the ocean (up to 25 times per year of each vehicle stage).

    SpaceX says it anticipates “no more than 20 explosive events at the surface of the water for each vehicle for the life of the program. These scenarios would occur within the first five years of the program.”

    Now, SpaceX lands Super Heavy in the Gulf of Mexico and Starship in the Pacific Ocean (near Hawaiʻi) and the Indian Ocean. In the future, SpaceX is proposing to expand the potential landing sites of Starship. For ocean landings, Super Heavy would land on a droneship or continue to be expended in the Gulf of Mexico. Starship could land on a droneship (floating platform) or be expended in any of the four landing areas: the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean (near Hawaiʻi) and the northeast Pacific Ocean, or the southeast Pacific Ocean.



    SpaceX, the aerospace company founded by Elon Musk, is seeking permits to conduct splashdowns in the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and Indian Ocean for its spacecraft. The company is known for its innovative approach to space travel, and this move could potentially open up new possibilities for commercial space missions.

    Two Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweights will collide in Mexico City next year.

    Multiple sources confirmed to MMAmania.com today (Tues., Dec. 31, 2024) that top 185 lb prospect Joe Pyfer will fight former interim Middleweight title challenger Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Mexico City on March 29, 2025, which will go down inside Arena CDMX, in Mexico City, Mexico.

    Pyfer (13-3) suffered his first UFC loss in 2024 in his first promotional main event to Jack Hermansson at UFC Vegas 86 but rebounded in absolutely brutal fashion by knocking out Marc-Andre Barriault at UFC 303, securing his third Performance of the Night bonus (watch highlights).

    “BodyBagz” holds a 4-1 UFC record with four finishes.

    Gastelum (19-9) only had one fight in 2024 against Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Saudi Arabia, in which he won a unanimous decision; however, the pre-fight drama overshadowed his win.

    Gastelum vs. “D-Rod” was supposed to take place at Welterweight, but before weigh-ins, Gastelum informed the promotion that he couldn’t make 170 lbs, forcing the promotion to change the scheduled fight to a Middleweight bout.

    UFC CEO Dana White was not happy.

    It has been a tough several years for the 33-year-old, only winning three of his last nine fights, but a win over a red-hot Pyfer would put him right back in the thick of the division.

    The only other fights confirmed for UFC Mexico at this time are a pair of Flyweight fights, Edgar Chairez vs. C.J. Vergara and Ronaldo Rodríguez vs. Kevin Borjas.

    MEXICO CITY – While walking through the streets of Mexico City, Youth Journalism International students saw dozens of organ grinders. These street performers played hand-cranked mechanical organs, filling the air with music.

    They are a beloved symbol of the city’s vibrant street culture, offering both entertainment and a connection to Mexico’s rich musical heritage.

    Brought to Mexico from Germany in the late 1800s, the organ grinders became incredibly popular during the Mexican Revolution.

    Watching the uniformed men playing both traditional Mexican folk songs and pop hits provides a charming experience for travelers.
