Miami Heat vs Houston Rockets Prediction, Odds and Picks

It was a disappointing defensive effort by Miami on Saturday, when it allowed 120 points in a 10-point loss to the Hawks. What was even more worrisome was the fact that Atlanta recorded 34 assists in that game, Miami’s defense looked stagnant and they are really starting to feel the absence of Jimmy Butler. He will also miss Sunday’s game at Houston due to conditioning reasons. Miami heads into Houston as a 7.5 point underdog, which does sound like a lot against a team it has beaten 8 times in a row. Miami also holds a distinct edge in covering the spread here, having done so 12 times in the last 16 meetings.

Houston also comes into this game after a loss. The Rockets be kicking themselves after letting a 16-point lead slip away vs Minnesota on Friday. It was only their 4th home loss in 15 games this season, they’ve been a reliable 10-5 ATS in those 15 games. Catching Miami on a 2nd night of a back-to-back might just be enough to overturn this poor head-to-head record they have against them. Unlike Atlanta, Houston does not play a fast pace, they mostly rely on their defense to win games. Opponents make just 35% of attempts against them from downtown, which ranks 7th best in the NBA.

A low-scoring game would benefit Miami here; it can lose by 7 points and still cover the spread. The road loss to Atlanta will be a wake-up call, this has been a favorable matchup for them over the year and I feel like they should have enough to keep this a close game. I’m taking Miami.

Heat vs Rockets prediction: Miami +7.5 (-110) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.

The Miami Heat will face off against the Houston Rockets in an exciting matchup on Thursday night. Both teams have had their fair share of ups and downs this season, but this game promises to be a close one.

The Heat currently sit at 18-13 and are coming off a big win against the New York Knicks. They have been playing solid basketball lately and will look to continue their strong performance against the Rockets.

On the other hand, the Rockets have struggled this season and have a record of 9-21. However, they have shown flashes of potential and have the ability to surprise any team on any given night.

In terms of odds, the Heat are the favorites to win this game with a -5.5 point spread. The over/under for the game is set at 220 points.

As for picks, I believe the Heat will come out on top in this game. They have more talent and are playing better basketball at the moment. I predict the final score to be 115-105 in favor of the Heat.

Overall, this game should be an exciting one to watch. Both teams will be looking to secure a win and improve their standing in the Eastern Conference. It will be interesting to see which team comes out on top in this matchup.

  • Report: Miami Dolphins’ No. 2 QB for 2025 season may already be on roster

Report: Miami Dolphins’ No. 2 QB for 2025 season may already be on roster

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion in a September loss to the Buffalo Bills and subsequently was sidelined for four games. One of the quarterbacks Miami turned to in Tagovailoa’s absence was former Baltimore Ravens signal-caller Tyler Huntley.

Huntley started three of the four games Tagovailoa missed, and he led Miami to its only win without its usual starter. Miami earned a 15-10 victory over the New England Patriots on Oct. 6, and Huntley threw for 194 yards in that contest.

Now, it appears as though Huntley may stick around with the Dolphins for a little while longer.

“Impending unrestricted free agent Tyler Huntley, who was named the Dolphins’ No. 2 quarterback earlier this month, told The Miami Herald on Friday that the team has expressed an interest in bringing him back next season,” wrote Dolphins insider Barry Jackson.

“Does that mean the Dolphins’ decision on Tua Tagovailoa’s backup for 2025 is totally settled? That’s not certain, because A). the Dolphins and Huntley first need to agree on a contract presuming Miami doesn’t change its mind and B). It’s possible Miami could bring in another player worthy of competing for the No. 2 job, though that would be financially daunting.

“But Huntley’s comments at his locker on Friday suggest that there’s a very good chance that Tagovailoa’s 2025 backup is already on the roster.

“‘I got a good feeling I’m going to be home for a little bit,’ the Dania Beach native Huntley said, confirming that Miami’s interest in keeping him beyond this season has been conveyed to his agent, Zeke Sandhu. ‘I’m going to be down here in Miami in a little bit. It’s all God’s plans, but I’ve got a good feeling I’ll be home for a little bit.’”

Huntley is earning just over $1 million with the Dolphins this season. He’s currently scheduled to hit free agency in the offseason.

The veteran is quite the experienced backup quarterback. He spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Ravens and even earned a Pro Bowl nod (albeit a bizarre one) in the 2022 campaign. He has appeared in 23 regular-season games during his career and two playoff games.

The former University of Utah star also brings more to the table as an offensive threat than merely his passing chops. He’s a rock-solid rusher in spurts, something he showed earlier this season. For example, in the Dolphins’ loss to the Tennessee Titans back on Sept. 30, he totaled 40 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

However, for as talented as Huntley is, Miami simply didn’t look very effective when he was in charge of the offense this season. The Dolphins didn’t muster more than 15 points in any one of the three games he started, and Miami scored just 10 points in a loss to the Indianapolis Colts in October during that span.

As such, it’s certainly debatable whether Huntley has done enough to show that he’s worthy of a new deal with the Dolphins, and it would be easy to understand if some folks are against the idea of Miami making such a signing.

But what’s strikingly clear is that Miami would benefit from securing some depth at the all-important position in the offseason, so the question is how the Dolphins should go about doing so.

The Miami Dolphins may already have their No. 2 quarterback for the 2025 season on their roster, according to a recent report. With uncertainty surrounding the backup QB position, speculation is mounting that the team may turn to a familiar face to fill the role.

Stay tuned as we track the latest developments and potential contenders for the coveted position behind the Dolphins’ starting quarterback. #MiamiDolphins #NFL #Quarterback #2025Season

  • Miami Dolphins 2025 Opponent List Now Almost Complete

Miami Dolphins 2025 Opponent List Now Almost Complete

The results of the Saturday games not only provided more clarity for the Miami Dolphins in terms of their playoff situation, they also determined one more opponent for next season.

With the Los Angeles Chargers defeating the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos losing in overtime against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium, the Chargers became the final AFC opponent on the Dolphins’ 2025 schedule.

The victory clinched second place in the AFC West for Jim Harbaugh’s team and that will send them to Miami to face the Dolphins, who are locked into second place in the AFC East this season.

This sets up a fourth career meeting between fellow 2020 draft quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert following games in the 2020, 2022 and 2023 seasons. The Dolphins are 2-1 in those games, the victories coming in 2020 and 2023.

When the Houston Texans defeated the Dolphins in Week 15 to clinch the AFC South, it also ensured the Indianapolis Colts would be another 2025 Miami opponent based on their second-place finish.

The one 2025 Dolphins opponent that remains undetermined is the one for the so-called 17th game, and it’s set to be the team from the NFC East that finishes in the same spot in the division standing coming to Miami. That team will be the Washington Commanders unless they win their final two games and the Philadelphia Eagles lose their final two, in which case Washington would win the NFC East and the Eagles would become that final Dolphins opponent.

Based on the NFL’s rotation formula, we already knew 14 of the Dolphins’ 17 opponents (technically 11 of 14 opponents because they face the Bills, Jets and Patriots twice), and the three remaining opponents to determine are those that will finish in the same place in their division standings in the AFC South, AFC West and NFC East.

    2025 Home Opponents

Buffalo, New England, N.Y. Jets, Baltimore, Cincinnati, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, L.A. Chargers, NFCE (currently Washington)

    2025 Away Opponents

Buffalo, New England, N.Y. Jets, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Carolina, Indianapolis Colts

Let’s also remind everyone that the Dolphins will be playing an international game next season, most likely in Spain or Brazil.

Exciting news for Miami Dolphins fans – the 2025 opponent list is now almost complete! As the team gears up for another thrilling season, fans can start looking ahead to the matchups that await.

With games against division rivals like the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills, as well as non-conference showdowns against teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys, the Dolphins will have their work cut out for them.

Stay tuned for the official announcement of the full schedule, but in the meantime, start marking your calendars and getting ready to cheer on the Dolphins as they take on some of the best teams in the NFL in 2025. Let’s go Dolphins! #MiamiDolphins #2025Season #OpponentList

  • Miami Dolphins at Houston Texans Game Preview

Miami Dolphins at Houston Texans Game Preview

That special time of year has arrived. The period on the calendar where family, food and football reign supreme; and this year, between the NFL and the College Football Playoff, massive games are on television just about every day.

For the Dolphins, their Sunday showdown in Cleveland will be an opportunity to keep playoff hopes alive. Miami needs a pair of wins and some help to get back to the postseason for the third consecutive year.

A win would push Miami back to the .500 mark for the first time since Week 2. A Broncos or Chargers loss on Saturday, paired with a Dolphins victory, would keep Miami’s playoff hopes alive entering Week 18.

To find the winner’s circle, the Dolphins need to solve one of the NFL’s most talented defenses, spearheaded for reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett and three-time Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward. Ward is holding opposing pass catchers – typically the No. 1 on a given team – to a passer rating of just 82.2 when targeted.

Then there’s Garrett. He’s recorded double-digit sacks each of the last seven years and been named NFL All-Pro five times with a sixth likely on the way in 2024. He presents arguably the biggest challenge of the season for Miami’s star left tackle Terron Armstead, who held San Francisco star pass rusher Nick Bosa without a hit on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in last week’s 29-17 win over the 49ers.

It stands to reason that the ball must come out fast, and likely away from Ward. It also stands to reason that the solution for such a game plan could be tight end Jonnu Smith, who last week became the franchise’s single-season record holder for receptions (76) and receiving yards (802) by a tight end.

“With Jonnu, it’s sort of endless,” Tagovailoa said. “If he needs to big body the ball, he can do that. If he needs to use his hands, he can do that as well. If you just allow him to get the ball into his hands, he’s super dangerous with the ball.”

Quick passing game solutions often means targets for the running back, too. De’Von Achane is fresh off a 190-yards-from-scrimmage performance and has been an impactful player for Miami in both the run and pass game.

On the other side, the Browns are likely to start Dorian Thompson-Robinson at quarterback for the second straight game. A fifth-round pick last year by the Browns, Thompson-Robinson will be making his fifth career start. He’s thrown one touchdown compared to nine interceptions in his 13 games of experience and averaged just 3.9 yards per attempt.

It’ll be imperative for the Dolphins to make life difficult on the young quarterback, just as they have done the last two weeks. Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud and San Francisco signal-caller Brock Purdy passed for just 444 yards against Miami, producing 37 points across those two contests.

If the Dolphins can beat the Browns and win at MetLife Stadium next week against the Jets, they would clinch a fifth consecutive winning season. The last happened when Miami posted seven straight winning seasons from 1997-2003.

Make sure to check out the Injury Report and the team’s official social media accounts 90 minutes before kickoff to see who is active for the game.

Watch the game live on Sunday, December 29 at 4:05 p.m. ET on CBS, and listen on the Dolphins Radio Network and view the Game Center for the latest coverage.

The Miami Dolphins are set to take on the Houston Texans in an exciting matchup this weekend. Both teams are coming off of tough losses and will be looking to bounce back with a win.

The Dolphins will be looking to improve their record after a disappointing loss to the Buffalo Bills last week. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will need to step up and lead the offense to put up points against the Texans’ defense. The Dolphins will also need their defense to step up and make key stops against the Texans’ offense.

On the other side, the Texans are coming off of a tough loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor will need to have a big game and lead the offense to score against the Dolphins’ defense. The Texans will also need their defense to step up and make key stops against the Dolphins’ offense.

Overall, this game should be a close and competitive matchup between two teams looking to get back on track. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting game between the Miami Dolphins and Houston Texans.

  • Miami Heat troll Orlando Magic after last-second victory

Miami Heat troll Orlando Magic after last-second victory

If its last-second 89-88 victory over the Orlando Magic on Thursday wasn’t enough, the Miami Heat made sure to troll their in-state rival afterward.

Miami faced a one-point deficit with 4.2 seconds left after Orlando center Goga Bitadze made a layup. The Heat then called a play for guard Tyler Herro, who dribbled into a midrange pull-up jumper and swished it for a go-ahead basket. The Magic had 0.5 seconds left to potentially win the game but were unable to do so.

The win marked Miami’s first against Orlando this season after it lost the first two meetings. Herro now has three go-ahead baskets in the final second of the fourth quarter or overtime in his career — two of which have come this season, per ESPN Research.

After the game, the Heat poked fun at the Magic, who have now dropped four of their past six games.

Miami referenced the viral TikTok track that Orlando posts after each of its victories — but with a twist. Herro took over the turntables and played a different song with the Magic’s Kia Center court as his background.

Orlando’s catchy song has become a staple of the team’s postgame celebration. It is often teased with the phrase, “You wanna hear the song?” prompting responses like, “Play the song.” The Magic posted it as recently as Monday after their 108-106 win over the Boston Celtics.

Herro scored 20 points to lead Miami, which played without Jimmy Butler (conditioning). The Heat and Magic will face each other for the final time in the regular season on Jan. 27.

The Miami Heat took to social media to troll the Orlando Magic after their thrilling last-second victory. The Heat’s official Twitter account posted a photo of the game-winning shot with the caption, “Sorry, Magic fans. Better luck next time #HeatCulture #VictoryMonday.” The post quickly garnered attention from fans who praised the Heat for their clutch performance and cheeky taunt towards their rival team. Despite the close game, the Heat showed they are a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. #MiamiHeat #OrlandoMagic #NBA #TrollGameStrong

  • Miami QB Cam Ward breaks Case Keenum’s Division I touchdown passes record in Pop-Tarts Bowl

Miami QB Cam Ward breaks Case Keenum’s Division I touchdown passes record in Pop-Tarts Bowl

Miami quarterback Cam Ward broke the Division I career touchdown passes record Saturday when he completed his 156th career touchdown pass to Jacolby George with 4:12 left in the first quarter of the Pop-Tarts Bowl.

The four-yard score, Ward’s 37th touchdown pass of the season, broke a tie with former Houston quarterback Case Keenum, who holds the Football Bowl Subdivision-only record with 155 touchdown passes.

Ward, who won ACC player of the year honors, was a Heisman Trophy finalist and is a projected first-round NFL Draft pick, spent his first two years of college football at Incarnate Word, a Football Championship Subdivision program. He threw 71 touchdown passes there before transferring to Washington State for two seasons. Ward threw 48 touchdown passes in two seasons with the Cougars before transferring to Miami in January.

Ward may not hold on to the record for too long. Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel has thrown 153 career touchdown passes — all at the FBS level — and plays Ohio State in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. If the No. 1 seed Ducks win, they’ll advance to the semifinals of the 12-team bracket.

Gabriel is already the FBS leader in career touchdowns with 186. Ward has 176 career touchdowns, including 20 on the ground.

(Photo: Todd Kirkland / Getty Images)

Miami quarterback Cam Ward made history in the highly anticipated Pop-Tarts Bowl, breaking Case Keenum’s Division I touchdown passes record. Ward’s stellar performance on the field propelled his team to victory and solidified his place in college football history.

With a record-breaking number of touchdown passes under his belt, Ward’s talent and skill were on full display throughout the game. His precision passing and strategic decision-making helped lead his team to a decisive win in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, further cementing his reputation as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation.

Fans and analysts alike were in awe of Ward’s incredible accomplishment, as he surpassed Keenum’s previous record with ease. As the new record holder for Division I touchdown passes, Ward has set the bar high for future quarterbacks to strive towards.

Congratulations to Cam Ward on this impressive achievement, and here’s to many more memorable moments on the field in the future.

  • Possible Coaching Replacements At Miami And Virginia

Possible Coaching Replacements At Miami And Virginia

With Jim Larranaga’s abrupt retirement Thursday, barring startling turnarounds, there will be at least two ACC openings this spring: Virginia and Miami.

At Virginia, interim coach Ron Sanchez is just 7-5 and while the offense is still slow-paced in the Tony Bennett tradition, the defense is much more porous. As of this moment, we can’t see Virginia giving him the job on a full-time basis.

We don’t really have a feel for who the Cavaliiers might hire, but one name that will almost certainly be in the mix is Ryan Odom.

Son of former Virginia assistant and Wake Forest head coach Dave Odom, the younger Odom is currently at VCU. This could work for or against him: he was the coach at UMBC when the #16 Retrievers just decimated #1 Virginia in the 2018 NCAA tournament. Reportedly, an ACC job is his dream.

Here are a few other names to keep an eye on there:

    • Bob Richey, Furman. Virginia fans know…that guy is an excellent coach.
    • James Jones, Yale. Pro: he’s proven he can win at an academically elite school. Con: he’s 60.
    • Kenny Blakeney, Howard. The former Duke guard may be a bit itchy – earlier this year, he proposed selling interest in the Howard team and was shot down by the administration. He may be worried about keeping up with the Joneses and Virginia would be a good step up. Also, he played for Morgan Wooten at DeMatha and Mike Krzyzewski at Duke, so you know he’s been exposed to great teaching.
    • Bucky McMillan, Samford. A creative offensive coach, he could put fannies in the seats, as they say. Pro: he’s just 41. Con: we don’t really know of any.
    • Dave Leitao. Just kidding. Thought we’d see if you Virginia fans were awake. Cons: dreadful public persona, potty mouth that would embarrass Bob Knight and more abrasive than steel wool.

Miami is in an interesting situation too. Larranaga came to Coral Gables in 2011 and really built his program both on the court and in the community. It was very much a backwater when he arrived and he made Miami fun. Who wouldn’t want to go to a game there?

He got to Miami when he was 62 and while it’s not the primary consideration, hiring a younger coach might be good – not least of all because of the changing nature of the job. Older coaches are bailing all over the place.

So who’s been mentioned so far? Well…

    • Richard Pitino. Thing is, New Mexico is a basketball school. It’s got tradition, it’s got tremendous fan support, it has The Pit. The ACC might draw him, but we’ll have to see.
    • Anthony Grant. He’s doing a great job at his alma mater, but he’s a Miami native. Similar situation though: Dayton is a great basketball school, albeit in a lesser conference. Archie Miller used to coach there. Archie Miller went to Indiana and bombed. He’s at Rhody now and while that’s a good job, it ain’t Dayton good. Grant is 58, which might not be ideal for following an older coach, but he can certainly do the job: his career record is 352-185. At Dayton it’s 159-75.
    • Will Wade. Would they make him a strong-ass offer? Just kidding. The former LSU coach really crashed and burned there after making a “strong-ass offer” that came up in the FBI/Adidas case that ultimately cost him a nice SEC gig. All that stuff is above board now, but his reputation is still suspect. Would they dare?
    • Mike Morrell, UNC-Asheville. Listen, the guy had a 4-27 season in Year One, then was 15-16 in Year Two. Covid hit in his third season and the Bulldogs were 10-10, but as we always say, everyone gets a pass on Covid. After that, Asheville was 17-15, then 27-8 and 22-12 last season. So yes, he’s got chops.
    • John Calipari, Arkansas. Okay, this one is not entirely serious. First, he just took the Arkansas job last year. And second, in our opinion, his skills are in decline. However…Calipari would love the spotlight at Miami. He would just soak that up. And he would be in a great position with the tremendous talent that has come out of Miami and Florida in recent years. But again, it won’t happen, unless something seriously goes wrong at Arkansas. If it was last spring instead of late December? Could’ve been interesting to say the least.

We’d like to add in one wild card for both Virginia and Miami to consider, and that’s UConn assistant Luke Murray.

It cannot be easy to escape his father’s shadow: Bill Murray is a comedic legend. Yet Luke seems to have done that. He’s built a lot of respect as an assistant and he’s worked at Arizona, Louisville and UConn, among other stops. He gets a lot of credit for UConn’s brilliant offense and that alone should get him consideration at both schools. At Miami, he could continue Larranaga’s tradition of a fun and exciting offense, and at Virginia, he could reintroduce fans to the concept. Just 39, he could have a long career at either school.

Over the last few years, we’ve always recommended Ben McCollum, who was at Northwest Missouri State, but no one gave him much thought. This year, Drake hired him away from the Bearcats and so far, Drake is 11-0.

As the college football season comes to a close, speculation is already swirling about potential coaching changes at Miami and Virginia. Both programs have had disappointing seasons and may be looking to shake things up in the coaching staff. Here are some possible coaching replacements that could be considered:

    Miami:
    1. Mario Cristobal – Currently the head coach at Oregon, Cristobal has ties to Miami as a former player and assistant coach. He has proven to be a successful recruiter and could bring a fresh perspective to the program.
    2. Butch Davis – A former head coach at Miami from 1995-2000, Davis has a successful track record and could bring stability and experience to the program.
    3. Lane Kiffin – Currently the head coach at Ole Miss, Kiffin is known for his offensive prowess and could inject some excitement into the Miami offense.

    Virginia:
    1. Tony Elliott – The current offensive coordinator at Clemson, Elliott has been instrumental in the Tigers’ success and could bring his offensive expertise to Virginia.
    2. Billy Napier – The head coach at Louisiana, Napier has been a rising star in the coaching ranks and could bring a fresh perspective to the Virginia program.
