    Texas’ own Mickey Guyton and Mexican singer-songwriter Carín León share the hour on the latest episode of Austin City Limits. Preview the installment of the legendary live music television show premiering on Saturday, January 25 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT as part of ACL’s milestone Season 50 on PBS (check local listings) by watching a performance from each artist’s debut on the program below.

    Mickey Guyton focuses her seven-song appearance on material from her critically-acclaimed 2024 studio album House On Fire. The trailblazing musician also performs cuts from her breakthrough 2021 LP, Remember Her Name, which led to her making history by becoming the first Black woman to be nominated for the Best Country Solo Performance Grammy.

    Guyton wrote or co-wrote all 12 songs featured on House On Fire, her sophomore full-length studio album. One of the record’s many highlights is the anthemic title track. Mickey Guyton took inspiration from mental health for the song, including on the gut punch of the lyric “Can you love me when things are really bad/When I’m in flames?”

    Carín León had a massive 2024 in which he drew raves for a set at the Grand Ole Opry sung entirely in Spanish and became the first Latin artist to take the stage at both Coachella and Stagecoach. The gifted vocalist also released the genre-defying studio album Boca Chueca, Vol. 1, which is up for a 2025 Grammy in the Best Musica Mexicana Album category.

    León was backed by an 18-piece band for his ACL debut including a full brass section, accordion, piano, acoustic, electric, requinto and steel guitar. The native of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico delivered seven songs for his portion of the new episode mixing material from Boca Chueca, Vol. 1 and his 2023 breakout LP Colmillo De Leche.

Discovery) centers on Pattinson’s titular character Mickey Barnes, who finds himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job…to die, for a living.

    Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Naomi Ackie also star.

    “Parasite” writer/director Bong penned the script based on the novel “Mickey 7” by Edward Ashton. Bong also produces along with Dooho Choi. “Mickey 17” will screen at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival and opens in South Korea on February 28 before debuting in the U.S.

    “Mickey 17” is produced by Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, with Brad Pitt, Jesse Ehrman, Peter Dodd, and Marianne Jenkins executive producing.

    Pattinson recently told Vanity Fair that “Mickey 17” is being released “in a period of enthusiasm for cinema” after the lull of “ambitious” films amid COVID and the strikes.

    “It’s strange because the last few years for the film industry, starting with COVID and then the strikes, everyone was constantly saying cinema is dying. And quite convincingly. I was literally almost turned off,” Pattinson said of acting. “It actually started to get a little worrying. Then looking in the last few months, there’s this flurry of very ambitious movies. I feel like the stuff that’s going to get nominated for Oscars this year is going to be really interesting, and it seems like there’s suddenly a new batch of directors who the audience is excited about as well. […] Hopefully ‘Mickey’ will come out in a period of enthusiasm for cinema.”

    Everyone has an important role to play in Mickey 17’s take on a future where humanity is trying to colonize other worlds. But in the new trailer, it’s clear that Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) has no idea what he’s agreeing to when he signs up to be an “expendable” on a ship headed to the desolate ice planet Niflheim.

    Mickey doesn’t think there’s anything strange about how, once they make it to Niflheim, his crewmates all stay on their ship while encouraging him to wander outside with his helmet off and take deep breaths of whatever viruses might be hanging out in the atmosphere. And he doesn’t even seem all that concerned once his little excursion seemingly leads to a lethal infection that involves coughing up a lot of blood. It’s awful, but it’s also what Mickey’s colleagues expect for him because it’s his job to be a guinea pig who dies over and over again before being cloned by way of a 3D printer.

    Though the new trailer gets increasingly more gruesome, it also leans into the movie’s humor as it spells out how messed-up of a situation Mickey has wandered into. And when Mickey 17 hits theaters on March 7th, it’ll probably leave us all reminded of why it’s important to always read your labor contracts.
