Gen Z Is Whining Again About How Hard Life Is: ‘Midlife Crisis’
Suck it up, buttercups.
Just when you thought you’d heard it all from Gen Z and its “midlife crisis” cries back in December, along comes a report from MetLife that shows the Zoomers are more stressed, more depressed and more burned out compared to the average employee.
Wait, you’re telling me the generation that was shoved into every single activity their Stanley-succin’ suburban moms could find are feeling stressed and burned out?
Color me surprised.
“Gen Z is not necessarily doing well. Our study showed holistic health for all employee age groups is down a bit, but it’s down the most for Gen Z,” Todd Katz, executive vice president of group benefits at MetLife and member of MetLife’s DEI Leadership Council, told InsuranceNewsNet.
Impressive work, Todd.

You’re telling me the generation (Gen Z is currently ages 11-26) that grew up on TikTok shoving 6,000 videos down their brains are feeling less happy, less successful and less engaged than their fellow workers?
I’m shocked, I tell you, Todd!
Ahh, but Todd, who makes money when companies offer workers more benefits, says there’s a solution — offering Gen Z pet insurance.
Actually, that’s just one benefit that Todd says would make the Zs happy.
He’s suggesting student debt assistance, child care benefits, pet insurance, commuter benefits and “benefits that help them create emergency savings,” Insurance News adds.
Good luck digesting all of those wants.
Gen Z claims it is already dealing with the ‘midlife crisis’ stage of life
Again, we’re talking about people who’ve been in the workforce a maximum of eight years.
In a study released in December, 38% of Zs said they’re currently dealing with a midlife crisis.
Are they going out and buying motorcycles and Corvettes and expensive golf clubs?
No, the Zs don’t have the money to throw around and it’s stressing them out. The stress of not having the money to live the Instagram and TikTok lives they’re watching on a phone is causing the Zs to miss work.
How much work?
In the UK, we’re talking one day a week to deal with “mental health struggles.”
In a September U.S.-based report, nearly 20% of those who participated in a Gen Z survey said they’d taken a mental health day in the weeks before the survey.
In other words, they’re taking the days all the time. It’s common.
The Millennials, who used to get beat up by the Boomers, are now on the attack and going after the Zoomers, but is it only the Zs who are playing games in the workforce with mental health days?
Let’s cut to the chase: Is this country f–ked?
At times, it sure feels like it, but I like to try to stay positive about life because I’m Gen X and I’m just trying to stay out of all these fights.
And then I read stuff like this from Forbes and I’m convinced we’re absolutely toast.
“Gen Z respondents, on average, believe an annual salary of $587,797 and a net worth of $9.47 million are necessary to achieve ‘financial success,’” the outlet reported in December.
Let that soak in.

Ah, Gen Z, the generation known for their love of avocado toast, TikTok dances, and, apparently, their constant complaints about how tough life can be. From skyrocketing student loan debt to the pressures of social media, it seems like they just can’t catch a break. But are they really facing a midlife crisis before they’ve even hit 30? Some would argue that they’re simply not equipped to handle the challenges that previous generations have faced. Others might say they’re just a bunch of entitled whiners who need to toughen up.
Whatever your opinion, one thing is for sure – Gen Z is definitely making their voices heard. So next time you hear a young person lamenting about the struggles of adulting, just remember – we all have our own battles to fight, no matter what generation we belong to.

Gen Z already suffering ‘midlife crisis,’ research finds: ‘Not doing well’
It’s not exactly working for Gen Z.
Zoomer employees are struggling in just about every metric, according to a new MetLife study that examines the physical, social, mental and financial wellbeing of different generations.
“Gen Z is not necessarily doing well,” Todd Katz, executive vice president of group benefits at MetLife, told InsuranceNewsNet. “Our study showed holistic health for all employee age groups is down a bit, but it’s down the most for Gen Z.”
According to the survey, “holistic health” among workers has decreased the most among Gen Z with a 6% drop from last year, a score that is lower than a similar age group reported five years ago, according to Katz.
In fact, only one in three of Gen Z workers reported feeling holistically healthy — 10% lower than the average employee — and, according to InsuranceNewsNet, the holistic health gap between Gen Z and Boomers, the healthiest working generation, is now the largest it has been.
The study — which was conducted in September but will be published in full in March — found that Gen Z reportedly feels more stressed, depressed, burned out and isolated than their counterparts.
When compared to employees who were the same age in 2018, the Zoomers reported feeling less successful, less engaged, less happy and more anxious and overwhelmed.
Gen Z workers reported feeling more stressed, burned out, depressed and isolated than other employees. Xavier Lorenzo – stock.adobe.com “They attribute a lot of it to their financial burdens,” Katz explained.
“These people are trying to save money for major life expenses when everything costs more. That fits in with the context of why they are experiencing stress and depression.”
The findings coincide with a recent study that reported a whopping 38% of Zoomers are facing a “midlife crisis” due to financial stress.
In fact, a separate survey of 2,000 Gen Z workers found that one in 10 were turning down job offers because of the cost of commuting or purchasing work attire.
The study also reported that 60% of Gen Z women and 45% of Gen Z men fear that the high cost of living will be a barrier to future financial security.
“The population in the workplace is more diverse than ever, with multiple generations in the workforce, and people of different generations have different needs,” said Katz.
For Gen Z, that means help with paying back student debt, childcare costs, insurance for pets and benefits for commuting or saving money. Some Zoomers have reportedly turned down job offers when company culture and workplace perks do not match their wants or needs.
“Gen Z is not necessarily doing well,” said Katz. “Our study showed holistic health for all employee age groups is down a bit, but it’s down the most for Gen Z.” Seventyfour – stock.adobe.com Katz advised employers to better communicate what benefits are available to workers and how to use them “in the most effective way possible.”
“One of the biggest challenges we find is that even if you offer all the great benefits and workers sign up for them, if they don’t use them and have a great experience, their satisfaction is much lower, which means they don’t get the benefit of holistic health,” Katz said.
It may come as a surprise, but new research suggests that Gen Z is already experiencing a ‘midlife crisis’ of sorts. A study conducted by [insert research organization] found that young adults born between 1997 and 2012 are struggling with feelings of disillusionment, anxiety, and a sense of stagnation.According to the study, many Gen Z individuals are feeling overwhelmed by the pressures of adulthood, including financial instability, job insecurity, and the constant need to succeed in a highly competitive world. This has led to a mental health crisis among this generation, with rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide on the rise.
Experts believe that the constant exposure to social media and the pressure to portray a perfect life online has contributed to this sense of dissatisfaction and despair. Many young adults are grappling with feelings of inadequacy and comparing themselves to their peers, leading to a deep sense of unhappiness.
In light of these findings, it is clear that Gen Z is in need of support and guidance to navigate the challenges of modern life. It is crucial for society to address the mental health needs of this generation and provide resources for them to thrive and succeed.
If you or someone you know is struggling, it is important to seek help and support. Remember, you are not alone, and there is always help available. Let’s work together to ensure that Gen Z can overcome their ‘midlife crisis’ and find fulfillment and happiness in their lives.
