Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving hits huge career milestone during Timberwolves game
The Dallas Mavericks are taking on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night in a rematch of last season’s Western Conference Finals. Both teams have been struggling a little bit this season, as the Mavericks entered the game at 23-20 and the Timberwolves came in at 22-21.
The Mavericks are still playing without their superstar Luka Doncic, who is still out due to a calf injury that he suffered on Christmas Day. However, Kyrie Irving recently returned to the lineup after missing a few games due to a back injury. On Wednesday night, Irving reached the 18,000-point mark for his career with a tough bucket in the first quarter.

Irving has had a relatively quiet first half, scoring just eight points on 3-for-5 shooting as the Mavericks trail 55-53 at the break. Instead, it has been P.J. Washington who has carried much of the load offensively, scoring 16 points on 14 field goal attempts. The Mavericks are looking to continue their dominance over the Timberwolves after their convincing win over Minnesota in last year’s playoffs even as Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert seek revenge for the loss.
Irving has had a couple of his biggest games of the season since Doncic has been out, even though it seems like Wednesday night is not going to be one of those nights. He scored 46 points in a Dec. 28 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers and came into this game off of a 33-point game in a loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Monday. In order for the Mavericks to get the win in this one, they will need Irving to pick up his production in the second half.
This is a big game for the Mavericks against a team that they are competing with to get out of the play-in picture in the Western Conference. The Mavericks are just one game ahead of the Timberwolves at the moment, and Minnesota can even the standings with a win on the road on Wednesday night. However, if the Mavericks can get a win, they would get even closer to passing the Los Angeles Lakers for that coveted No. 6 spot in the conference standings.

During the Mavericks’ game against the Timberwolves last night, Kyrie Irving reached a huge career milestone by surpassing 25,000 career points. Irving, known for his incredible scoring ability and clutch performances, achieved this feat in just his 11th NBA season.Irving’s scoring prowess has been on full display throughout his career, as he has consistently been one of the top offensive players in the league. From his incredible handles to his ability to finish at the rim, Irving has been a nightmare for defenders to try and contain.
Reaching 25,000 career points is no small feat, and it solidifies Irving’s place among the all-time greats in NBA history. Mavericks fans and basketball enthusiasts alike can’t help but be in awe of Irving’s scoring ability and his impact on the game.
Congratulations to Kyrie Irving on this incredible milestone, and here’s to many more memorable moments in his career. Mavericks fans can’t wait to see what else he has in store for the rest of the season.

HEFEI, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) — The Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST), dubbed China’s “artificial sun,” maintained a steady-state high-confinement plasma operation for a remarkable 1,066 seconds on Monday, setting a new world record and marking a breakthrough in the quest for fusion power generation.
The duration of 1,000 seconds is considered a key step in fusion research. The breakthrough, achieved by the Institute of Plasma Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP), greatly improved the original world record of 403 seconds, which was also set by EAST in 2023.
The ultimate goal of an artificial sun is to create nuclear fusion like the sun, providing humanity with an endless, clean energy source, and enabling space exploration beyond the solar system.
Global scientists have worked for more than 70 years on trying to achieve this feat. However, only after reaching temperatures over 100 million degrees Celsius, sustaining stable long-term operation, and ensuring controllability can a nuclear fusion device successfully generate electricity.
“A fusion device must achieve stable operation at high efficiency for thousands of seconds to enable the self-sustaining circulation of plasma, which is critical for the continuous power generation of future fusion plants,” said Song Yuntao, ASIPP director. He emphasized that the fresh record is of monumental significance, representing a crucial step toward the development of a fusion reactor.
Gong Xianzu, head of the division of EAST Physics and Experimental Operations, said they have upgraded several EAST systems since the last round of experiments. For example, the heating system, which previously operated at the equivalent of nearly 70,000 household microwave ovens, has now doubled its power output while also maintaining stability and continuity.
Since starting operation in 2006, EAST has been an open test platform for Chinese and international scientists to conduct fusion-related experiments and research.
China officially joined the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) program in 2006 as its seventh member. According to the agreement, China is responsible for about 9 percent of the project’s construction and operation — and ASIPP is the main unit of the Chinese mission.
ITER, which is under construction in southern France, will be the world’s largest magnetic confinement plasma physics experiment device and the largest experimental tokamak nuclear fusion reactor, once completed.
In recent years, EAST has continuously achieved groundbreaking milestones in the high confinement mode, which serves as the fundamental mode for experimental fusion reactors, including ITER and the future China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR), providing valuable references for the construction of fusion reactors worldwide.
“We hope to expand international collaboration via EAST and bring fusion energy into practical use for humanity,” said Song.
In Hefei, east China’s Anhui Province, where EAST is located, a new generation of experimental fusion research facilities is under construction — aiming to further accelerate the application and development of fusion energy. ■

Robert Pattinson Shares New Fatherhood Milestone He’s Obsessed With
Robert Pattinson is embracing fatherhood—one special scent at a time.
The Twilight actor recently shared a rare glimpse into life with his and fiancée Suki Waterhouse’s baby girl, revealing that it wasn’t until he became a dad himself that he finally understood the lore behind babies having a distinct pleasant scent.
“I thought they were just smelling the baby powder. But then I had a baby, and I was like: ‘My baby smells incredible,’” Pattinson, 38, told Vogue in a profile published Jan. 18. “There’s something there, I can identify her. She doesn’t smell like other babies.”
The Batman star’s comments about life with his little girl come nearly one year after he and Waterhouse—who got engaged in 2023 after five years of dating—welcomed their daughter.
Waterhouse, 33, had announced she was pregnant during her performance at the Corona Capital Festival in November 2023. Dressed in a sequined pink dress adorned in feathers, she told the crowd, “I’m extra sparkly today because I thought it might distract you from something else that’s going on,” before unveiling her baby bump.
Robert Pattinson, best known for his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight series, has recently become a father and he couldn’t be more excited. The actor recently shared a new fatherhood milestone that he is absolutely obsessed with.In a recent interview, Pattinson revealed that he has become obsessed with taking his daughter for walks in the park. “I never realized how much I would enjoy spending time outdoors with my daughter,” he said. “There’s something so peaceful about taking a stroll in the park and watching her explore the world around her.”
Pattinson went on to say that he loves watching his daughter discover new things and seeing the world through her eyes. “It’s such a beautiful experience to witness her curiosity and wonder as she takes in everything around her,” he added.
The actor also shared that becoming a father has been a life-changing experience for him and has given him a newfound sense of purpose. “Becoming a father has opened my heart in ways I never knew were possible,” he said. “I am so grateful for this new chapter in my life and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me and my daughter.”
Fans of Robert Pattinson are thrilled to see the actor embracing fatherhood with such enthusiasm and are looking forward to seeing more glimpses of his life as a dad. Congratulations to Robert on this new milestone!

Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” has now spent 100 weeks on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart, a very rare … [+]
Miley Cyrus has been teasing the next chapter of her music career with mentions of possible album titles and sonic directions. She even stated that she wants the project, which will be visual in nature, to be similar to Pink Floyd’s The Wall, though in exactly what way is yet to be seen.
As the world waits for her highly-anticipated studio effort—and possible film—the smash that’s led to this new era being so exciting is still overperforming. “Flowers” doesn’t only appear on a Billboard chart; it’s nearly in first place, and this frame is special for the smash that reinvigorated interest in her work.
Cyrus’ single hits 100 weeks on the Adult Contemporary chart this frame. It’s exceedingly rare for any tune to rack up triple-digit stays on any of Billboard’s lists, but it’s even more uncommon on a radio roster, where turnover is often high.
“Flowers” is far and away Cyrus’ longest-running hit on the list of the most successful tunes at Adult Contemporary stations throughout the U.S. It nearly doubles the 51 stays that “The Climb” managed starting in March 2009, and it will almost certainly do so in the coming frames.
The smash is months ahead of every other tune on the Adult Contemporary chart at the moment. The second-longest-running win is “Cruel Summer” by Taylor Swift, which is now up to 78 turns on the tally. Rema and Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down” trails that electronic pop cut by two frames.
“Flowers” holds the record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the AC radio roster. It spent 57 stints atop the chart, easily passing the 36 that “Girls Like You” by Maroon 5, the runner-up for this honor, managed half a decade ago.
At the moment, “Flowers” doesn’t seem like it’s going anywhere. The song currently holds at No. 2 on the Adult Contemporary chart, behind only “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims. That smash, which helped the crooner earn his first Grammy nomination, is the seventh-longest-leading No. 1 ever, with 23 stays inside the penthouse.
Miley Cyrus Reaches A Momentous Milestone For The First TimePop sensation Miley Cyrus has reached a major milestone in her career for the first time ever. The multi-talented singer, songwriter, and actress has achieved a new level of success that has her fans buzzing with excitement.
After years of hard work and dedication, Miley has officially reached one billion streams on a single song on Spotify. Her hit track “Wrecking Ball” has surpassed this incredible milestone, solidifying her status as one of the music industry’s biggest stars.
Fans have taken to social media to congratulate Miley on this incredible achievement, with many expressing their admiration for her talent and perseverance. This milestone is a testament to Miley’s enduring popularity and the impact she has had on the music world.
As Miley continues to push boundaries and break new ground in her career, it’s clear that this is just the beginning of many more milestones to come. Congratulations to Miley Cyrus on this incredible achievement!

And she was as dominant as ever in the fourth round on Monday night, winning the first nine games in a row for a 6-0, 3-0 lead before Lys, who got into the main draw here as a lucky loser, finally got on the board with a hold of serve to make it 6-0, 3-1.
Swiatek then won three more games in a row to close it out.
She finished the match with 28 winners in 59 minutes.
The world No. 2 has only lost four games across her last three matches, but things will likely get much tougher in the next round as she faces her first Top 10 foe of the tournament—awaiting her in the quarterfinals is the world No. 8, Emma Navarro, who outlasted another Top 10 player, No. 10 Daria Kasatkina, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.
