Case Studies: Companies Thriving with a Proactive Maintenance Mindset

Proactive maintenance is a strategy that involves regularly monitoring and maintaining equipment and assets to prevent failures before they occur. This approach can help companies save time and money by avoiding costly repairs and downtime. In this article, we will discuss some case studies of companies that have successfully implemented a proactive maintenance mindset and are thriving as a result.

One example of a company that has benefited from proactive maintenance is Boeing, the aerospace giant. Boeing has a large fleet of aircraft that require regular maintenance to ensure their safety and reliability. By implementing a proactive maintenance program, Boeing has been able to identify and address potential issues before they become major problems, resulting in fewer delays and cancellations for their customers.

Another company that has seen success with proactive maintenance is General Electric (GE). GE is a global leader in the manufacturing of industrial equipment, including turbines, generators, and locomotives. By using advanced monitoring technologies and predictive analytics, GE is able to anticipate equipment failures and schedule maintenance before they occur. This has helped GE reduce downtime and increase the lifespan of their equipment, saving them millions of dollars in repair costs.

A third example of a company thriving with a proactive maintenance mindset is Toyota, the automotive manufacturer. Toyota has long been known for its commitment to quality and reliability, and proactive maintenance is a key part of their strategy. By regularly inspecting and maintaining their manufacturing equipment, Toyota is able to ensure that their production lines run smoothly and efficiently, resulting in higher productivity and lower costs.

In conclusion, proactive maintenance is a valuable strategy for companies looking to improve the reliability and efficiency of their operations. By investing in regular monitoring and maintenance of equipment and assets, companies can prevent costly failures and downtime, leading to increased profitability and customer satisfaction. The case studies of Boeing, GE, and Toyota demonstrate the benefits of a proactive maintenance mindset and serve as examples for other companies looking to thrive in today’s competitive business environment.

  • Menendez Family Reveals Brothers’ Current Mindset Ahead of Resentencing Hearing (Exclusive)

Anamaria Baralt says she is often asked what her cousins Lyle and Erik Menendez are like.

“Lyle’s humor is sharp and quick, it’s one of the things that’s kept him and our family going,” says Baralt as she talks about the brothers, who fatally shot their parents Jose and Kitty Menendez at their Beverly Hills, Calif. home in 1989. “And Erik, he’s got this deep compassion that makes him someone everyone can lean on. But what stands out most about them is their resilience.”

While serving life sentences in prison, Erik, 54, and Lyle, 57 — who claim they killed their parents because they feared for their lives after years of sexual abuse by Jose — have “managed to build meaningful lives,” says Baralt, 53, who spoke about the brothers’ much-anticipated resentencing hearing at a National Press Club event in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 23.

“What’s driving me, and my family, is love,” she tells PEOPLE. “Their continued incarceration serves no societal purpose and only prolongs our family’s pain. They’ve taken responsibility for their actions, they’ve committed their lives to helping others and they’ve done it all while carrying the weight of their past and the judgment of the world. All we want is to welcome them home.”

For more on Lyle and Erik Menendez, subscribe now to PEOPLE, or pick up this week’s issue, on newsstands Friday.

In October 2024, the Menendez brothers appeared to be on the verge of release when then-L.A. District Attorney George Gascón filed a re-sentencing request that could have ultimately freed them. However, Gascón lost his bid for reelection, and what newly elected district attorney Nathan Hochman plans to do is unclear.

“We are still figuring it out,” Hochman told PEOPLE when asked if he would support or withdraw his predecessor’s resentencing motion.

The brothers’ journey to what they — and nearly two-dozen supportive family members like Baralt — hope will pave the way to their release has been a long time coming. Their fate took an unexpected twist last year when a new generation of supporters joined the call for their release from prison, owing to a cultural shift in understanding of the devastating toll that sexual abuse survivors face, along with the impact of Netflix’s hit drama Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and a documentary on the streaming service, The Menendez Brothers.

By last October, efforts to re-sentence the men to 50 years to life — making them immediately eligible for parole as “youthful offenders” since Lyle was 21 and Erik was 18 at the time of the murders—seemed to be on the threshold of success. But many now wonder if their best shot at walking free is fading due to the November election of Hochman, who ordered a re-examination of the case and replaced members of the D.A.’s re-sentencing unit with attorneys of his own picking.

At this point,” says Laurie Levenson, a professor at L.A.’s Loyola Law School who has followed the case for decades, “Hochman is reviewing the case because he’s not quite sure that he feels the same way about it as Gascón.”

Asked if Gascón losing the election was a setback for the brothers, Cliff Gardner, one of the attorneys representing the Menendez brothers, tells PEOPLE that it “remains to be seen.”

Lyle, Erik, Kitty and Jose Menendez.

“In the typical homicide case, of course, a more conservative prosecutor would want to pay great attention to views expressed by family members of the deceased,” he says. “Here, it is very much an open question if the new district attorney will seriously consider the many, many family members of both Kitty and Jose Menendez who have come forward repeatedly to plead for Erik and Lyle’s release after 35 years in prison.”

Even by big-city standards, the grisly shotgun murders of former beauty queen Kitty, 47, and wealthy music executive Jose, 45, as the couple watched TV in their Beverly Hills home in August of 1989 was a shocking crime. Arrested seven months later, Erik and Lyle were charged with murder and tried together before separate juries, with both trials ending in mistrial. In a second trial in 1996, the brothers were found guilty and sentenced to life without parole.

    The 1989 crime scene.

Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office

“This tragedy will always be the most astounding and regrettable thing that has ever happened in my life,” Lyle told PEOPLE in 2017. “You can’t escape the memories, and I long ago stopped trying.”

For much of the past three and a half decades, the Menendezes — who have both been active in organizing support for their fellow inmates — filed appeals but knew the odds of being released were slim. In 2023, however, their attorneys, riding a groundswell of public support, filed a habeas corpus petition asking for a review of newly discovered evidence, including a letter Erik purportedly sent to a cousin months before the killings that mentioned Jose’s ongoing sexual assault, and an affidavit by a member of the boy band Menudo who alleged that Jose, who headed the band’s record label, raped him in the 1980s. The habeas petition remains a possible avenue for freedom.

But Levenson isn’t convinced that this new evidence would be enough to overturn the Menendezes’s 1996 convictions. “I don’t think that’s likely to succeed,” she says.

And now, exactly what will happen at the resentencing hearing beginning on March 20 is anyone’s guess.

The brothers, according to their cousin, are trying their best to take things day by day. “Erik and Lyle are cautiously optimistic,” says Baralt. “They’re grateful for the support they’ve received and for the opportunity to have their sentence reconsidered.”

If you or someone you know has been a victim of sexual abuse, text “STRENGTH” to the Crisis Text Line at 741-741 to be connected to a certified crisis counselor.

The Menendez family has been in the spotlight once again as brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez prepare for their upcoming resentencing hearing. In an exclusive interview with People magazine, the family has revealed the current mindset of the brothers as they face the possibility of a new sentence.

According to sources close to the family, both Lyle and Erik have been reflecting on their past actions and are hopeful for a second chance at a fair sentence. They have reportedly expressed remorse for their crimes and are eager to show the court how they have changed and grown over the years.

The Menendez brothers were convicted of the brutal murders of their parents in 1996 and have been serving life sentences without the possibility of parole. However, recent changes in California law have opened the door for their resentencing, giving them a chance at a reduced sentence.

As the resentencing hearing approaches, the Menendez family is hopeful that the court will take into account the brothers’ rehabilitation and remorse when considering their new sentence. They are optimistic that Lyle and Erik will finally have a chance to prove that they have changed for the better and deserve a second chance at life outside of prison.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Menendez brothers’ resentencing hearing as the family continues to support them through this difficult time.

  • New Jaguars coach Liam Coen wants ‘physical mindset’ from players

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — New Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen knows exactly what he wants out of his team: Play fast, be fundamentally sound, have an attack mentality, be good at situational football and be mentally and physically tough.

Coen then elaborated on that last category, which he intimated might be the most important of all when it comes to culture and identity, two things that were notably missing in 2024: “I want savages.”

That certainly wasn’t the way you’d describe the 2024 Jaguars, a team that went 3-10 in one-score games (the most such losses in a single season in the Super Bowl era), finished 31st in total defense, forced the fewest turnovers in the league and finished 25th in the NFL in point differential.

One of Coen’s top priorities is getting that flipped.

“Just that physical mindset. When our opponents turn on the tape, what are they looking at? Are they seeing guys playing through the echo of the whistle?” Coen told reporters Monday afternoon following his introductory news conference. “You might get a flag or two early on. Man, hey, let’s pull back a little. OK, here we go. But I want them playing on the edge. It’s a violent game. They have to be that way. I want them to play that way. So that’s where it starts. If we can get that out of these guys, I think we’ll be moving in the right direction.”

Among the Jaguars’ issues that resulted in a 4-13 record and owner Shad Khan’s decision to fire coach Doug Pederson: lacking a strong identity, strong vocal leadership in the locker room and on-field discipline. In the limited conversations he has had with several Jaguars players — notably quarterback Trevor Lawrence and defensive end Josh Hines-Allen — Coen said improving on those elements was a priority for them in 2025, too.

“I heard guys that are yearning for more,” Coen said. “Just more culture, more unity, more communication, just everybody being on the same page, a true aligned vision, and for everybody to be able to tell each other some hard truths in ways and see each other’s blind spots and communicate those. That’s where the growth occurs, and that’s what it sounded like they’re yearning for.

“They want more responsibility on both sides of the balls, but with a clear vision. They want to be able to be coached hard but understand that it’s coming from the right place and there’s a trust and an honesty there.”

Coen, 39, also talked about his flip-flop from remaining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ offensive coordinator with a significant raise that would have made him one of the highest-paid coordinators, to taking an interview with Khan the following day, saying he felt like the opportunity in Jacksonville was one he couldn’t pass up.

Khan said he felt the same way about Coen during the interview process. After spending several hours with Coen, Khan said he knew Coen was the right hire to not only change the culture in Jacksonville, but to help Lawrence play more consistently high-level football.

“Our commitment to Trevor, I think it’s well known that we believe in him. So, it started with that,” Khan said. “That was the fundamental question, really, to all the candidates. How would they do it? After we got done with that, it was very evident to me that Liam was the guy. I had never met Liam until the process started, but I had heard about him quite a bit over the last year.

“… As we went through the process it was absolutely compelling, he’s the right guy for us.”

Coen, who confirmed he will be calling plays, has already started compiling his staff, signing special teams coordinator Heath Farwell to a three-year contract extension. Farwell spent the past three seasons with the Jaguars and has produced a Pro Bowler in all three seasons (returner Jamal Agnew, punter Logan Cooke and long-snapper Ross Matiscik).

Coen, who will be interviewing defensive coordinator candidates over the next several days, also said the same thing that Pederson said the week before he was fired: The Jaguars aren’t far away from competing for the playoffs the way they did in 2022 and 2023 before the disappointing 2024 season.

“I mentioned this to the guys, this isn’t a four-win team,” Coen said. “Yes, that is the record, but this is not a four-win team. How do we go from winning games to not losing them? I think that’s something we’ve got to address. That has got to be in our veins, in our DNA: the culture of winning.

“I’ve learned it from the Los Angeles Rams and from a ton of other great organizations on how to go win football games. I think that’s something that we have to start as a team, as a group, and show how we’re going to go do it.”

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a new head coach in Liam Coen, and he is bringing a new philosophy to the team. Coen, who was previously the offensive coordinator at the University of Kentucky, wants his players to have a “physical mindset” on the field.

In an interview with reporters, Coen emphasized the importance of playing with aggression and physicality. He wants his players to be tough and relentless in their approach to the game.

Coen’s coaching style is a departure from the more finesse-oriented offenses that have been prevalent in the NFL in recent years. He wants his team to be known for their physicality and toughness, and he believes that this mindset will help the Jaguars compete at a higher level.

It remains to be seen how Coen’s philosophy will translate to success on the field, but one thing is clear: the Jaguars will be a tougher team under his leadership. Fans can expect to see a more physical brand of football from Jacksonville in the coming seasons.

  • Oba Femi Names WWE NXT Superstars Who Share His Mindset Toward Fans

Speaking with Cameron Hawkins for Uncrowned, Oba Femi discussed a wide range of topics. Here are the highlights:

On who has a similar mindset as him: “Me, Tony D’Angelo, Lexis King, Trick Williams. We all have that mindset of, ‘Oh, we’re out there. Bring it. Bring it to me. Let’s make this good. Let’s give these fans what they came to see. Let’s make their money’s worth. Let’s give them their money’s worth.’ I’m so glad we have that healthy relationship.”

On not chasing accolades: “I don’t focus on things like [winning a title] as the big wins. This is great for me and the company as well because I plan to represent this brand the best I can. But it’s little things like putting someone else over, making someone a new star, passing on the title, passing on the mantle, having a good match with someone they didn’t think you were going to have a good match with — those are the wins for me. It’s never about the accolades in and of itself. If you chase the small victories and fall in love with the craft, you always achieve the big things.”

In a recent interview with Oba Femi, the Nigerian-born NXT superstar shared his thoughts on fans and how he relates to certain WWE superstars who share his mindset. Oba Femi, known for his no-nonsense attitude in the ring, discussed how important it is to connect with the audience while staying true to oneself.

  • Celtics’ rout of Warriors was a ‘mindset win’ – NBC Sports Boston

The Boston Celtics have responded well to losses all season long, and Monday’s game vs. the Golden State Warriors was no exception.

After falling to the Atlanta Hawks in overtime Saturday, the C’s started their four-game West Coast road trip with an emphatic 125-85 victory. The win brought them to 12-1 this season after a loss with an average margin of victory of 21.7 points, according to WEEI’s Justin Turpin.

After the Celtics’ win over the Warriors, Jaylen Brown spoke about the team’s mentality heading into the matchup.

“We’ve just got to fight,” he told NBC Sports Boston’s Abby Chin. “We’ve just got to fight to get a win. It’s the NBA, it’s tough to get a win each and every night. Coming off a long flight, tough game, overtime, we just wanted to come out as a team and do it together.”

It’s been a rough stretch for the reigning champions. Boston entered Monday’s game with an 8-8 record over its last 16 games. Perhaps the midseason malaise is nothing to worry about, as Warriors coach Steve Kerr asserted before the matchup, but it’s been difficult to ignore some of the red flags that have appeared over the last month.

Heading out west after the brutal loss to Atlanta presented another stiff test for the C’s, and they passed with flying colors.

“Tonight was just a mindset win,” Brown said. “Our bodies not feeling great, overtime, long flight, early game, nobody made an excuse. We just come out and just tried to put our best foot forward.”

Brown played a key role in the win, notching 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting while adding four rebounds and two assists. He also took on the challenge of guarding Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, who finished with 18 points on a modest 6-for-16 from the floor (4-13 3-PT).

The 2024 NBA Finals MVP hasn’t looked like himself at points this month, but he stepped up to lead the bounce-back effort. Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla spoke after the game about handling players who are going through struggles and how he attempts to get them back on the right track.

“One, you trust them,” Mazzulla said. “You trust the work that they’ve put in their career. You trust the work they put in daily. I think that’s a huge part of that. These guys go through so much on and off the court.

“So, it’s a lot of trust, just seeing the way he carries himself, and I think it’s my job to (ask), ‘Hey, how can I put you in better situations?’ So, I think it’s a high level of communication that you try to have, and just whatever they need, you try to make sure us as a staff and team can put them in the best position.”

Brown and the C’s will look to duplicate Monday’s performance when they visit the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night. Tip-off for that matchup is set for 10:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Boston.

The Boston Celtics’ dominant victory over the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night was more than just a statement win on the scoreboard. According to NBC Sports Boston, the rout was a “mindset win” for the Celtics.

From the opening tip, the Celtics came out with a focused and determined approach, setting the tone for the game early on. They played with a sense of urgency and intensity that was unmatched by the Warriors, who seemed to struggle to keep up with Boston’s relentless energy.

The Celtics’ defense was particularly impressive, holding the Warriors to just 39% shooting from the field and forcing 20 turnovers. Their ability to disrupt Golden State’s offense and turn defense into offense was a key factor in their commanding victory.

But it wasn’t just their defensive prowess that stood out – the Celtics also excelled on the offensive end, with multiple players stepping up and contributing to the scoring effort. Jayson Tatum led the way with 26 points, while Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart also made significant contributions.

Overall, the Celtics’ performance against the Warriors was a testament to their mental toughness and resilience. They showed that they are capable of competing at a high level against top teams in the league and that they have the mindset to overcome any challenges that come their way.

As the Celtics continue their season, this “mindset win” could serve as a turning point for the team, propelling them to even greater success in the future. It was a statement victory that showed the rest of the league that the Celtics are a force to be reckoned with.

  • With playoffs looming, Bills kicker Tyler Bass confident in his mindset

When kicker Tyler Bass drilled the franchise-record 61-yard field goal to beat the Miami Dolphins earlier this season, his Buffalo Bills teammates and coaches said at the time it could be a confidence boost.

Now, ten weeks later, long snapper Reid Ferguson looks back and calls it a turning point.

“Big kick, game winner, 61 yarder, and I think that kind of flipped a switch,” Ferguson said.

Ferguson recalls the weeks before the game-winning kick where he was fielding a lot of questions about Bass and the fifth-year kicker’s mindset. Behind the scenes, Ferguson saw Bass working consistently.

“He didn’t waver from his routine,” Ferguson said. “He was still trying to get back on track, he wasn’t changing a lot of stuff up, and I think that Miami game really solidified that he was on the right track. … Really from Week 10 on, he’s made a lot of big kicks for us: taking leads, extending leads, making two-possession games at the end.”

Bass is confident heading into the playoffs, which will be critical for the Bills.

So far this season, he’s 24-of-29. Four of his five misses have been from 40 to 49 yards out; Bass is a perfect 4-of-4 from 50-or-more yards. But he’s missed five extra points as well, none of those marked as a block.

After a missed 44-yard field goal in the Bills’ 27-24 loss to Kansas City in the Divisional Round last season, Bass needed to reset.

“You take that Chiefs game, the end of it, and you send him out there for that kick 10 times, we believe that that may have been the miss,” Ferguson said. “But the nine other times he’s going to make it.”

Still, Bass had a rocky training camp and questions lingered after that, but the Bills brass expressed confidence in him over and over. To meet that trust that the team was placing in him, Bass tried to keep the same mindset that brought him to Buffalo.

“I think just being true to myself and being myself – that’s the best way to be consistent,” Bass said. “And just managing my expectations.”

For Bass, managing expectations means that rather than setting specific goals, he will instead focus on putting in the work that will have strong results along the way. He makes sure to allow joy in his game, as well.

“I love what I do, and that makes going out there, my job fun,” he said.

Bass is minimizing the pressure of the playoffs.

“It’s another game,” Bass said. “(Don’t) make it bigger than it is – it’s another game for us.

“Including preseason, I wanna say it’s like Week 22. So, it’s another game, and treat it like that.”

Bills coach Sean McDermott says he’s seen Bass turn a corner as well.

“He seems rather consistent, in terms of his mindset all season long, in particular the back half of the season, I would say,” McDermott said on Friday.

“I think just getting his sea legs back underneath him a little bit, coming off the offseason and the experience he went through last year,” McDermott said.

It helped to have the support of Ferguson and punter Sam Martin along the way. The trio has been together for three seasons, and Bass has worked with Ferguson since he was a rookie.

“This year has been a really big year of growth for him,” Martin said. “He’s navigated the ups and downs like a ten-year vet. So, it’s been impressive to watch him navigate the mental side of the game this year.”

Quieting the noise was part of it, Martin said. But Martin also thinks heartbreak is a part of the journey for any special-teams standout.

“I think, especially as a young guy, every specialist goes through it at some point,” Martin said. “Whether it’s in their fifth year, their tenth year, or their second year – it’s kind of part of the position. And you really don’t learn how to deal with it until it happens, until you get hit with a little bit of adversity, in that sense. And then you just navigate it from there.”

Martin and Ferguson could relay their own experiences to Bass, but Bass also needed to go through the journey himself. Martin remembered an early stretch in his career when he struggled.

“At some point, you can only say so much before it happens,” Martin said. “It’s something you just have to mentally be able to attack, keep your confidence high and just trust your process.”

Ferguson spends time reminding Bass of big kicks he’s made in the past, especially in the playoffs. A performance against the Indianapolis Colts in Bass’ rookie season stands out to Ferguson. The Bills won 27-24, with Bass perfect on the day, including a 54-yarder in the fourth quarter.

“Stuff like that is stuff that we can take into the playoff games,” Ferguson said, “Saying: ‘You’ve been here before. We’ve been here before. We trust you to make these kicks.’ … Whatever it is, we trust (him). He’s been there, he’s done it, we’ve done it as a unit. And I think that’s something powerful that we can lean on.”

With the NFL playoffs fast approaching, Buffalo Bills kicker Tyler Bass is feeling confident in his mindset heading into the postseason. Despite being a rookie, Bass has shown poise and consistency throughout the regular season, making clutch kicks in crucial moments.

In a recent interview, Bass expressed his belief in his ability to perform under pressure, stating, “I trust in my preparation and my technique. I know that I’ve put in the work, and I have confidence in my abilities to come through when it matters most.”

As the Bills look to make a deep playoff run, having a reliable kicker like Bass could prove to be a valuable asset. With his mental toughness and unwavering confidence, Bass is ready to step up and deliver for his team when it counts the most.

Fans can expect to see Bass continue to shine on the big stage as the Bills gear up for their playoff push. With his positive mindset and strong work ethic, there’s no doubt that Bass will be a key factor in Buffalo’s quest for a championship.
