    If you want to understand what the big deal is with a global shutter, there is a good Wikipedia article on rolling shutters that includes a nice animation showing why it could be important.

    This is a decent 5mp camera with a global shutter. It is plug-and-play on Windows and Linux and works with all of the typical software that I tried like the Camera app, Zoom, and RingCentral. The performance in low light is also quite good.

    I plan to use this in a wildlife camera project where both the low-light performance and the motion performance will be needed.

    This is an ELP (manufacturer) USBGS5MP01 (model) with the V100 lens UVC camera module—I actually have three of them and have found some are a little better than others. For instance, the upper-left hand corner of _this_ one is slightly, but noticeably, back focused making the image softer in that corner. Performance is bright light is good, performance in low light, as one would expect is a bit noisy.
    I like that it comes with a lens cap.

    This is my first tiny camera connected to my raspberry pi 5. It was easy to connect and the photos are beautiful. I took pictures of my grandson playing football and this camera takes moving pictures without interference and that is due to the global shutter which exposes the full image in one shot. This is an excellent camera for the price and it can be used with your cell phone or PC. I could not afford a large camera that can take pictures and video like this web camera.

    This works well with my Creality Falcon 2 Laser engraver. I made a makeshift mount for it while I tested and calibrated it to make sure it was compatible. The thing that surprises me is the excellent quality and clear pictures/videos. I just tied it to the end of the mount with a hair tie, I will eventually make it more permanent and wish it came with a mount or the option to purchase one. At the moment I’m learning 3D printing and will attempt to make a custom mount.

    It’s an okay USB camera, but I am dubious about the value placed on it. It does the job well enough but I feel like I could have gotten more bang for my buck elsewhere. Granted I am using it on a PC, so perhaps other applications will be better suited.

    Plug and play works without issue and the camera is recognized without any trouble or tinkering, color looks nice and accurate, works well in lower light settings and is good with motion, but I still can’t get past the $169.99 price point, and would personally consider about half that to be a good starting point.

    Will it serve the purpose you need it to serve? probably, and it will probably do a satisfactory job as well, but I would do plenty of research to make sure this is the correct product for your needs before you order. Due to the questionable value, I have deducted a star, but the camera does work as advertised.

    Instead of exposing the image a line at a time like “rolling shutters” (99% of the market), a “global shutter” exposes the entire image at once. The benefits of this become immediately apparent when filming moving objects…the “tearing” and other distortions present with most cameras using a rolling shutter disappears completely. If you are using a USB camera to record video of moving objects, and have experienced distortion in your video, this is the solution you’re looking for.

    Now, regarding the cost? It may seem expensive, but if you’d like to see ANOTHER camera on the market with a global shutter, feel free to check out the Sony A9 III. The cost of the A9 III is $6,000. This is $170. So, when you look at the price with the proper perspective, it doesn’t seem nearly so bad now.

    Great camera, great technology. 5 stars.

    You have to provide the housing for this camera of course but it comes already wired and ready to go. It’s picture quality is amazing and it’s a very premium camera. It looks so colorful and captures so much more detail than most high end webcams.
