Jesse Chavez’s big-league career will continue in 2025.
The Texas Rangers signed the 41-year-old to a minor-league contract, the team announced Monday.
Chavez was the oldest player to pitch in the National League last season and is entering his 18th big-league campaign. He played with the Rangers in 2020, 2019, and part of the 2018 season.
The right-hander was incredibly effective for the Atlanta Braves over the past two-and-a-half seasons, authoring a 2.56 ERA and 9.3 K/9 in 147 2/3 innings.
Chavez will provide the Rangers with another experienced arm in the bullpen should he make the team out of spring training. He’ll join offseason additions Chris Martin, Robert Garcia, Jacob Webb, Hoby Milner, and Shawn Armstrong.
The Texas Rangers have reportedly signed 41-year-old veteran outfielder Endy Chavez to a minor-league deal, according to multiple sources.
Chavez, who last played in the major leagues in 2014, brings a wealth of experience to the Rangers organization. He has played for several teams over his 13-year career, including the Washington Nationals, Seattle Mariners, and New York Mets.
While Chavez may not be the star player he once was, his presence and leadership could prove valuable to the Rangers’ younger players in the minor leagues. The team is hoping that his experience and knowledge of the game will help mentor and develop their up-and-coming prospects.
It remains to be seen if Chavez will make it back to the majors with the Rangers, but his signing is a low-risk move that could potentially pay off for the team in the long run. Stay tuned for more updates on Chavez’s progress as he works his way through the Rangers’ minor-league system.
