  • ‘1923’ season 2 trailer sees Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren prepare for ‘war’

The Duttons aren’t letting their home go without a fight.

Paramount+ dropped the first trailer for Yellowstone prequel 1923s highly-anticipated second season on Sunday, teasing a bitter and bloody war between the Duttons and wealthy businessman Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) over the family’s Montana property. And, from the looks of it, Cara (Helen Mirren) and Jacob (Harrison Ford) Dutton are going to need all the help they can get in order to keep it.

In the trailer, Whitfield can be seen touting Montana as the next great “playground for the elite” to a collection of socialites over dinner, unveiling a painting that depicts a collection of cozy chalets with skiers enjoying the wintery landscape. Privately, however, he and Banner Creighton (Jerome Flynn) plot to “destroy” the Duttons once and for all.

“I’m trying to prevent a war here,” Robert Patrick’s Sheriff William McDowell says in the clip. Jacob, in turn, replies, “It ain’t preventable! He wants to take this place from us.”

He and Cara will hopefully find help in the return of their son Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) — if he can make it back to Montana in time, that is. The expert marksman, who was forcibly separated from his fiancée Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) at the end of season 1, appears to land himself in hot water once again in the clip, this time being held at gunpoint by a new character played by Jennifer Carpenter

“My family is in danger,” Spencer says at one point. “My wife is lost to me, and I don’t have time.”

The Duttons can also be seen taking matters into their own hands throughout the trailer, firing a slew of guns both in and around their homestead. “Of all the things I’ve had to do for this ranch,” Mirren grumbles as she reloads her sniper, “this takes the cake.”

An official description for season 2 of 1923 reveals that “new challenges and unfinished business” will soon be arriving upon the Dutton’s doorstep. “With harsh conditions and adversaries threatening to end the Dutton legacy, Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) embarks on an arduous journey home, racing against time to save his family in Montana,” it reads. “Meanwhile, Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) sets off on her own harrowing trans-Atlantic journey to find Spencer and reclaim their love.”

Written and created by Taylor Sheridan, 1923 also stars Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Darren Mann, and Michelle Randolph. It is the second chronological installment in theYellowstone franchise, occurring 40 years after the series’ first spinoff, 1883. All of the Duttons featured in both series are family members of Yellowstone‘s lead cowboy, John Dutton III (Kevin Costner).

1923 begins streaming Feb. 23 on Paramount+ . Watch the trailer above.

  • Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford do as Duttons do and defend Dutton Ranch in 1923 trailer

A Yellowstone Origin Story approaches and, with it, a plan to make “Montana a playground for the elite.” Even a century ago, the Dutton ranch was a hot property, with land buyers looking to go to war over the Western stronghold of confused politics and cowboy soap operatics. Helped by a reliable stable of character actors in 10-gallon hats, the Duttons fulfill their birthright and spend another TV season protecting their land. Three years after season one and as promised by the end of what was a satisfying season of Yellowstone that no one thought was a bizarre cry for help from showrunner Taylor Sheridan, 1923 returns to the Great Plains to declare Montant for the Duttons.

    Here’s the synopsis:

“A cruel winter brings new challenges and unfinished business to Jacob and Cara back at Dutton Ranch. With harsh conditions and adversaries threatening to end the Dutton legacy, Spencer embarks on an arduous journey home, racing against time to save his family in Montana. • The only actor Helen Mirren thought she could never match

The only actor Helen Mirren thought she could never match

Dame Helen Mirren has been a regular feature on stage and screen since the 1960s. She is one of Britain’s most respected and recognisable actors, having numerous accolades and awards under her belt, including an Academy Award and multiple Baftas. For young actors breaking into the industry, Mirren is something of a gold standard for what can be achieved with dedication and hard work, but it is difficult to imagine the London-born actor ever feeling intimidated by any of her co-stars.

As the old proverb goes, there’s always a bigger fish. No matter how respected or iconic an actor is, there will always be somebody else with a larger reputation, a more respected filmography, or simply more credits to their name. Helen Mirren had an early run-in with one of those bigger fish back in the 1980s when she performed alongside Harrison Ford in the far too often overlooked drama The Mosquito Coast.

Up until she was cast in that film, Mirren’s credits were largely confined to the stage, where she spent years performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company. In the modern day, Mirren is known as much for her theatrical performances as she is for her countless iconic film roles, but when The Mosquito Coast came out in 1986, your average movie-goers might not have recognised the now-legendary actor, particularly in contrast to the film’s leading man.

Harrison Ford was already a bonafide film star by the time the film was released, having starred in various groundbreaking films like Star Wars, American Graffiti, and Raiders of the Lost Ark, making him a household name across the United States. Inevitably, therefore, Mirren felt a degree of trepidation at co-starring alongside a seasoned veteran of film while her film career was still in its relative infancy.

In fact, the actor had readily admitted to this fact, once told Entertainment Tonight, “When I worked with Harrison, um, 30-something years ago, he was already a huge movie star; he’d already done Han Solo. It was like this, you know, he was there and I was like down there.”

Dame Mirren added, “Not that he ever treated me that way. Incidentally, he was always very gracious, but it was a very unequal sort of thing.”

The film itself was a box office flop and certainly did not match Ford’s previous successes in the form of films like Apocalypse Now or Blade Runner. Nevertheless, both Mirren and Ford gave commendable performances in The Mosquito Coast. Mirren never seemed out of place in the film; her acting prowess was clearly able to translate from the stage onto the screen.

Years later, the pair got the chance to work with each other once again, co-starring in the western television series 1923. As Mirren affirms, she felt a little more confident entering into that role than she had done all those years ago. “The minute I got back with Harrison,” she shared, “Was more on an equal partnership. I’ll never be on the same level as Harrison but, you know, at least I’d climbed up a little bit.”

Mirren may be at risk of selling herself short in that regard, as her acting career certainly stands up to Ford’s filmography, even if she wasn’t in Star Wars. What’s more, their respective performances in 1923 certainly seem to suggest that both actors are still operating at an incredibly high level of quality, even in their old age. Either way, the confidence she gained between The Mosquito Coast and 1923 is telling of her prolific career in film and television, which has seen her rise to become one of the most recognisable actors in the world.

When it comes to acting, Helen Mirren is often regarded as one of the greatest of her generation. With a career spanning over five decades, she has proven time and time again that she is a force to be reckoned with on screen. However, there is one actor that Mirren has openly admitted she never thought she could match in terms of talent and versatility: Meryl Streep.

In an interview, Mirren shared her admiration for Streep, stating, “I have always looked up to Meryl as an actor. She is truly in a league of her own and I never thought I could come close to matching her level of skill and range.” Mirren went on to praise Streep’s ability to transform into any character she portrays, from the stern Miranda Priestly in “The Devil Wears Prada” to the vulnerable Sophie in “Sophie’s Choice.”

Despite her own success and accolades, Mirren remains humble when it comes to comparing herself to Streep. She acknowledges that Streep’s talent is unparalleled and that she will always be in awe of her fellow actress. However, Mirren’s fans would argue that she is just as talented and versatile in her own right, with a diverse range of roles that have showcased her incredible acting abilities.

In the end, both Mirren and Streep are true powerhouses in the world of acting, each bringing their own unique flair and brilliance to the screen. And while Mirren may have once thought she could never match Streep, it is clear to audiences around the world that both actresses are truly in a league of their own.
