Savannah Guthrie’s ‘frosty’ moment with Today co-host leads to ‘guilty’ confession
Savannah Guthrie opened Today on Thursday alongside Craig Melvin from the comfort of Studio 1A, but it wasn’t long before she was squirming in her seat.
The hosts were at the helm of the NBC show as they read the headlines before turning to a colleague who was in a far less cozy environment.
Savannah and Craig winced as they introduced Dylan Dreyer who was braving the freezing cold weather on the plaza in New York.
She was wrapped up against the wintery front which was sweeping across the midwest and east coast of America.
Dylan confirmed: “It’s worse than it looks,” before detailing the nasty weather report.
© NBCSavannah and Craig were cozy in the studio Savannah couldn’t help but admit she felt “guilt” over Dylan being outside and urged her to come in for a cup of hot chocolate.
Dylan is no stranger to putting herself in extreme weather conditions in her role as a meteorologist.
She previously said: “I’m 100 percent committed to my job and I love it,” and she adores traveling around the globe for exciting, and sometimes dangerous, assignments.

She loves being a mom despite the fact before they had children, she and Brian weren’t sure they wanted to become parents.

We were like ‘let’s have kids’. Both of us obviously love it.”
© InstagramShe’s a busy mom to three boys As for if she would try for a girl with her husband, Dylan quipped that with her track record, it was likely she would welcome another boy instead. “Don’t think Brian and I haven’t had that conversation,” Dylan told TODAY.com. “But it’s like, no, we are so done. I know my luck, and it would be a fourth boy!”
Not to mention where she would put the new addition to the family.

The number three also holds a special place in both Dylan and Brian’s hearts as she explained to HELLO!: “When we decided to have children, I used to always want three. I grew up with two brothers, my husband is one of three. Three just feels right for us now.”

Anthony Davis had to depart from the game following his injury during the game which left the Lakers short-handed to defend their game against the Sixers. However, James shared a special moment with Allen Iverson’s mother, Ann Iverson.
Certainly, it was a special moment for NBA fans as James shared his heartfelt gratitude for the mother of the former basketball star who was also dubbed The Answer. James stepped out of the visitors’ locker room at Wells Fargo Center with a smile on his face. Before leaving, he took a moment to greet Iverson’s mother, Ann. The two shared a warm embrace and exchanged a few words. It was a touching courtside moment.
Ann came prepared to meet James, bringing a few photos for him to sign. The Lakers star nodded to her request. As he signed, James mentioned that his son, Bronny James, had just left. Ann smiled, saying she would have asked the rookie for an autograph too.After ensuring the ink was dry, LeBron carefully placed the photos in an envelope. “If he’s out from the beginning, then we have a game plan set. We know what to expect [and] we know what our lineups gonna be. I didn’t realize until the second quarter when he didn’t come back in his regular minutes,” he continued. When speaking of the injury concern for Davis, he added, “Level of concern? He’ll be fine.”
James added 31 points in the game where his son Bronny James also had the chance to play alongside his father. Bronny was, however, surprised to get the call to appear in the game, “I knew beforehand that I was coming in (and) getting some minutes, but I didn’t know before I got the call to come. It just came out of nowhere,” he shared adding, “…(I’m) just always trying to stay ready to play and always keep my mind right.”

“When I got to the rink this morning, I heard the sad news,” Senators coach Travis Green said following the morning skate on Thursday. “I know a lot of people, probably in the room, knew Shawn. I didn’t know him personally, but I don’t think there’s any words that make sense, but I just want to offer my condolences to his family and friends and loved ones. I can’t imagine what they’re going through today.
“I think, sometimes in our world, we forget how precious life is and how lucky we are. If you’re struggling with mental health issues, please reach out. There’s hopefully a lot of people that will help.”
Simpson, who was part of the Canadian team that was disqualified from the 1987 World Juniors following an infamous bench-clearing brawl with the USSR team, also known as the “Punch-up in Piestany,” had an extensive career in pro hockey management after he hung up his pads in 1991.
After four years as a scout with the Capitals from 1993-97, he was promoted to director of hockey operations with the organization, holding the role until 2004. He spent 2004-08 with the Toronto Maple Leafs as a pro scout. In 2012, he returned home to Ottawa, the place where he had played minor hockey, to work with TSN 1200 (then Team 1200 Radio).
“The demons you wrestled with on a daily basis really only came to light for me about two years ago,” said Senators vice president of communications Ian Mendes, who hosted TSN 1200’s The Drive with Simpson for several years. “My only wish is that you are now free from that pain and agony. You are a beautiful, kind soul who didn’t deserve the weight you carried. Nobody does.”
More recently, Simpson worked on multiple podcasts, including “Coming In Hot” with former TSN reporter Brent Wallace. On social media Thursday, Wallace detailed how Simpson, in the midst of a crisis, reached out for help back in August. Wallace, Mendes, and another friend, Rich, who worked at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, were able to get Simpson into a treatment program and, as Wallace wrote, “things started looking up.” Tragically, five months later, their friend passed away.
“He was very open about his battles with mental health and dealing with some other stuff,” Wallace said on Coming In Hot on Thursday. “We worked to get him some help. In the end, we just weren’t successful. Today is a tough one.”
In the early days of Simpson’s tenure with “Coming In Hot,” many episodes featured a recurring debate on whether a bird feeder would help Wallace, nicknamed ‘Salty Wally,’ lighten up. Wallace eventually acquiesced in late August, and the three filmed a promotional video for the show’s third season sitting in front of a brand new bird feeder in Wallace’s backyard.
“We made the bird feeder a big part of our show in the summer,” Wallace said. “And today, I just stood and watched it. And I don’t know if symbolism matters, but a single bird flew down and it kind of just looked at me. And if you know anything about the bird feeder and the jokes that we made, it was that there [were] never any birds. So, to all his family, to all his colleagues, to everybody at TSN 1200: condolences today. I’m sorry.”

FRISCO, Texas — Shedeur Sanders’ impact on the East-West Shrine Bowl was felt, even though the University of Colorado quarterback did not practice or take part in anything outside of meetings with quarterback-needy teams at the top of the 2025 NFL Draft.
There was an unusual flood of media to the Shrine Bowl this year, cementing Sanders’ status as one of the best and more fascinating players, a likely top-five pick in this year’s draft class. Long gone are the days of this game being filled with players who would just hope to be considered for a roster spot in the NFL — now there are legitimate prospects, Sanders aside, who want to come and showcase their talents on the field.
While Sanders feels like he has taken a leap on the field recently, there’s also the looming, enormous fact that he has been in the spotlight for a long time largely because of his family. Stepping into the life of a highly drafted quarterback is different from where he’s been, but the idea of fame being new doesn’t apply here. Being the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders has given him a clear answer on how he feels the pressures of being an NFL quarterback.
“I don’t,” Sanders said bluntly to Yahoo Sports. “That’s why the pressure doesn’t faze me. That’s why no situation would ever faze me. That’s why I know I’m the most guaranteed risk you can take.”
Shedeur Sanders has been preparing to be an NFL quarterback for a long time. (Davis Long/Yahoo Sports) Sanders’ background is well-known. He’s the third of Deion Sanders’ sons to play high-level Division I football. Shedeur’s football journey took him from Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, Texas, then Jackson State University before ending up at the University of Colorado. His father has been there for every step of his football journey as either a head coach or offensive coordinator, but the NFL will be a different challenge. With the hiring of Brian Schottenheimer as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, instead of Deion Sanders, Shedeur will be taking the first step of his football journey on his own.
That didn’t seem to bother Shedeur when asked about it, which makes sense. He should be confident in his abilities as a Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and Johnny Unitas Award winner. His father may have played a big role in his life, but ultimately, they’ve seen this through together and have reached the point where Shedeur can fulfill a lifelong dream of being an NFL player.
“I didn’t know that your parents being involved and wanting the best for you was a problem,” Sanders said to reporters at the Shrine Bowl. “The fact he was able to help me become the best quarterback in the country — he’s supposed to do that.”
And Sanders did, unequivocally, become one of the best quarterbacks in college football. At Jackson State, he started 26 games and threw for 6,963 yards, 70 touchdowns, 14 interceptions and had a 23-3 record — and he won the Jerry Rice Award in 2021 as the best player in FCS. At Colorado, the Buffaloes went 13-11 over his two seasons there, but he threw for 7,364 yards, 64 touchdowns and 13 interceptions and was part of turning the program as a whole in the right direction.
The road to get to this point was incredibly manicured, but it’s led him here nonetheless.
As an NFL Draft prospect, Sanders has fairly standard skills for a starting quarterback. He’s hovering around 6-foot-2, has good accuracy and the baseline arm strength needed to be considered a player teams would draft high. There are really only two players who are being considered potential franchise QB talents at the top of the draft this year: Sanders and former Miami quarterback Cam Ward.
“We’re friends, we’re friends,” Sanders said with a smile. “A lot of people in the media try to pit us against each other, but we’re family and friends first and foremost.”
Where those two players separate themselves in the eyes of teams will be one of the more interesting stories in the lead-up to the draft. While Ward can be a bit of a loose cannon on the field with some impressive highs physically, Sanders’ game isn’t quite as explosive, which has allowed him to develop the skills needed to be a top of the line quarterback prospect. Sanders also had the benefit of being coached by former NFL head coach and offensive play-caller Pat Shurmur, who is Colorado’s offensive coordinator.
Sanders gave Shurmur credit for where his game is right now in terms of his understanding of football.
“Coach Shurmur, he was the best thing that could’ve happened to the end of my college career,” Sanders told Yahoo Sports. “The way he went about his business is exactly how it is here, so he’s definitely true to who he is and he’s true to the process and what this league is made of. I’m just thankful for him.”
Even though Shurmur may not have had the most decorated NFL career, his experience is something a lot of college players don’t have access to in college. In terms of specific things that he learned with Shurmur, Sanders said that being able to handle pass protections better compared to earlier in his career has been a big win over the past season.
“He helped me dive into the protections and just cleaning up a lot of stuff with my game,” Sanders said. “That’s why I’m thankful I was able to end my college career with him.”
Sanders clearly has all the confidence in the world needed to take on this new challenge that he’s been training for his whole life for. Now it’s time to execute.
“It’s year by year,” Sanders said. “God will make sure I’m prepared each and every year, each and every year preparing for the next steps for the next things that are coming in life. Everything has happened for a reason and everything has happened for a purpose and I was just thankful that I was able to go through this process with my dad and with my family.”

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Following the sudden death of a 66-year-old American Airlines employee on the tarmac, his coworkers observed a moment of silence on Charlotte Douglas International Airport’s tarmac outside Gate B12.
A police report revealed the man was hit by an American Airlines tug on the ramp at Gate B12 at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27.
Passengers told WBTV they were asked to lower their window shades.
A Charlotte man was preparing to fly out for work in the aviation industry when he realized what he was witnessing.
“When I walked into the terminal and looked through the through the windows, I saw the emergency vehicles all surrounded out there, a couple fire trucks, a bunch of ambulances,” said Shawn Landry, “[I] got down to my gate and then I noticed all of the American Airlines or the ramp employees gathering in a circle and everything kind of went quiet. It seemed you know something serious had gone on.”
He said as passengers in the terminal learned what happened, the terminal grew quiet and became somber.
Landry served in the Air Force as a mechanic and now works in corporate aviation. He said what he saw next really moved him and caused him to snap a photo of employees gathering for a moment of silence.

And they just took a quick couple minutes probably of reflection and then and then broke up and went back to work.”
While watching it all unfold, Landry reached out to his son who works on the ramp at Concord’s regional airport just north of Charlotte.
“We talked about, you know, having your head on a swivel, you know, slowing down,” explained Landry. “You can always do everything and sometimes even these things happen.”
The US Department of Labor Statistics reports between 2011 and 2023 fatal accidents like what happened at Charlotte Douglas International Airport Monday have happened less than ten times a year. In some of those years, there were no deaths at all.
Needless to say, what happened on Monday morning, was truly a rare tragedy.
“You can tell that the safety culture is big. You know, everybody’s wearing vests. You know, there’s the gloves, the the knee pads. You can see kind of see from the from standing on the outside that there seems to be a fairly decent safety culture there and it’s just sometimes, things don’t work out,” Landry explained. “I know the the world that they live in and it’s just unfortunate sometimes, you know, there’s an accident like this.”
He said this moment of humanity captured in his photo will remain a reminder to him and others to treasure every moment.
“It made me made me think, you know, about what I do every day and what you know the people around me are– and it’s just very, very important to take the time and you know, tell your loved ones you love them and make sure that. The Charlotte Douglas International Airport told WBTV chaplains were present speaking to employees grieving the loss of a coworker.

I was on a flight from Atlanta to Charlotte when tragedy struck. A fellow passenger, an airline employee, suddenly collapsed on the tarmac as we were preparing to board the plane. It was a shocking and heartbreaking moment for everyone involved.As emergency personnel rushed to the scene, the rest of us stood there in stunned silence, unsure of what to do. That’s when a fellow traveler, a woman I had never met before, stepped forward and offered a simple but powerful gesture of humanity.
She walked over to the fallen employee’s co-worker, who was visibly distraught, and embraced her in a hug. It was a small act of kindness, but it spoke volumes about the compassion and empathy we can show to one another in times of crisis.
In that moment, the usual hustle and bustle of the airport faded away, and all that mattered was the human connection between us. It was a reminder that no matter how busy or hectic our lives may be, we can always find moments of kindness and solidarity with our fellow travelers.
As we eventually boarded the plane and continued on with our journey, I couldn’t shake the memory of that moment on the tarmac. It was a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of showing compassion to those around us, especially in times of need.
I may never see that woman again, but her act of kindness will stay with me forever. It was a brief but powerful reminder that we are all connected in our humanity, and that a simple gesture of kindness can make a world of difference in someone’s darkest hour.

The acronyms PITT and UNC tell the story of this rivalry renewal.
The Panthers and Tar Heels are about as statistically even as you can get. So the first of two season-defining games for both teams will boil down to, in my mind, what each of their letters mean.
PITT stands for Pure-Intimidation-Toughness-Tenacious. Jeff Capel’s Panthers have defeated Hubert Davis’ teams in three of their five meetings, twice at the Smith Center and once at the Peterson Center, where tonight’s 9 pm game will be played.
UNC stands for Unusually-Non-Competitive, which has drawn a challenge from Davis after the Tar Heels’ survival against Boston College. Hubert has said merely improving is off the table in favor of a complete change in attitude.
With both teams close in the NCAA NET Rankings (Pitt is 34, Carolina is 40), they also share space on the NCAA Tournament bubble. And their two meetings in the next 11 days will allow each the chance to push the other to the wrong side of it.
Pitt has a slightly better overall record (13-6) than Carolina (13-8). The Tar Heels (6-3) are ahead of the Panthers (4-4) in the ACC standings. Neither is ranked in any of the national polls.
Both have two players in the ACC’s top 20 scorers (Jaland Lowe and Ishmael Leggett vs. R.J. Davis and Ian Jackson) and one player each in the top 16 in field goal percentage (Jackson and Leggett). They are led by point guards, Lowe and Elliot Cadeau, who both have three games with at least 10 assists.
Carolina does not have a rebounder in the ACC’s top 20 for the first time since the Heels played in the Tin Can or before Frank McGuire, Dean Smith, Roy Williams and Armando Bacot. Pitt has one, No. 20, who averages less than six a game.
Lowe has the second-best free throw percentage and is fifth in steals. R.J. Davis is fourth and Seth Trimble sixth. Pitt has no one among the top 15 3-pointer shooters. Davis is ninth with 2 per game.
Carolina is second in scoring offense and 16th in scoring defense. Pitt is third and 10th in those categories.
In short, the team that wins the first match-up will accumulate more points the hard way. And there is no love lost between the programs, which should make it even more intensely competitive.
Jeff Capel played at Duke and hit one of the most memorable 3-point heaves in Blue Blood history, sending the 1995 game at Cameron into overtime. His brother and assistant coach Jason Capel is barely in the Carolina Family along with others who played for the infamous 8-20 team in 2002.
From the opening tip, this game will not be for the weak at heart. And it won’t be won on marginal major-college talent alone. Pitt is the stronger and tougher team. Can Carolina meet the moment?
