  • Heidi Klum’s 19-Year-Old Son Follows In His Supermodel Mom’s Footsteps With Paris Runway Debut

A new model has emerged in the iconic Klum family. German-American model and television personality Heidi Klum‘s eldest son Henry Samuel made his debut on the runway for the first time last night. The 19-year-old turned muse for the label Lena Erziak at the Paris Couture Week. He not only donned ensembles from Lena Erziak Haute Couture spring 2025 show but took after his supermodel mother in the sensational moment.

Samuel hit the red carpet at the Paris Hotel le Marois in not one, but two black suits; each equally designed with proper precision. The first one featured an open back; something not thought of before. It also included standardised broad and slanted collars with full sleeves. Additionally, a long piece of knotted fabric fastened around the waist added edginess to his outfit. The young Klum lad teamed his uniquely designed upper with sleek pants that looked stylish.

Henry Samuel’s stylist opted for a top-knotted ponytail hairstyle that added an oomph factor to his overall look. Minimal accessories, including only a pair of polished shoes, were enough to round off his charm.

Coming to his second look, the 19-year-old wore another black suit that screamed luxury. The stylish ensemble was layered with no shirt or t-shirt. Instead, a gigantic scarf made of a silk fabric of the same hues was tightened on his neck. The lengths flowed downwards, adding volume to Samuel’s overall glam. He kept his accessories, makeup and hairstyle completely the same as the first and let his ensemble do the talking.

What worked like magic for his overall glam game was that the iconic designer asked him to straighten his gaze and walk like he was balancing a book on his head.

Heidi Klum’s 19-Year-Old Son Follows In His Supermodel Mom’s Footsteps With Paris Runway Debut

Heidi Klum’s son, Johan Samuel, is making a name for himself in the fashion world as he recently made his runway debut in Paris. The 19-year-old took to the catwalk during Paris Fashion Week, following in the footsteps of his supermodel mom.

Johan looked confident and stylish as he strutted his stuff down the runway, showcasing the latest designs from top designers. His debut was met with praise from fashion insiders, who were impressed by his poise and presence on the runway.

Heidi Klum, who has been a prominent figure in the fashion industry for decades, couldn’t be prouder of her son’s accomplishment. She shared photos from his runway debut on social media, expressing her excitement and support for Johan’s budding modeling career.

It seems that talent runs in the family, as Johan proves that he has what it takes to succeed in the competitive world of fashion. With his mom’s guidance and support, there’s no doubt that he will continue to make a name for himself in the industry.

Congratulations to Johan Samuel on his Paris runway debut! We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this rising star.

  • Why these pregnant moms are suing the Trump administration over the birthright citizenship executive order

    CNN
     —

Liza counted the months until Donald Trump would be president. And she counted the months until her baby was due.

The timing filled her with dread. She’d learned from a friend that Trump planned to end birthright citizenship, right around the time she’d learned she was pregnant.

Last week, the moment she feared came even faster than she expected.

“I was shocked that it happened so quickly. … My world fell apart,” says Liza, a grad student in Texas who’s 24 weeks pregnant. Trump’s executive order banning birthright citizenship, she says, has thrust her family’s life into uncertainty.

Now the mass communications student from Russia is part of a group of pregnant moms – and advocacy organizations who represent them – who are fighting back.

“We have to do it for us, for our baby, and for all the other people like us,” she told CNN.

The federal lawsuit Liza and others filed is among a number of legal challenges arguing the ban violates the Constitution and longstanding legal precedent. Ultimately, the Supreme Court could have the final say.

Advocates argue the mothers’ voices particularly convey the urgency and significance of this moment.

“The executive order is already creating chaos in immigrant communities,” says Conchita Cruz, executive director of the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (ASAP). The organization is also a plaintiff in the case, and Cruz says its members include numerous families who would be impacted by the ban.

CNN has reached out the Justice Department for comment on the lawsuit. In response to another federal lawsuit over the order filed in Seattle, administration officials have argued that the 14th Amendment only grants birthright citizenship “to those persons born in the United States and subject to its jurisdiction — and thus excludes children of noncitizens here illegally as well as children of temporary visaholders.”

In their lawsuit filed in federal court in Maryland, Liza and other plaintiffs argue that the government’s interpretation “violates long-settled law” and unjustly denies citizenship to US-born children who “are plainly ‘subject to the jurisdiction’ of the United States.”

Losing birthright citizenship wouldn’t be merely a bureaucratic matter, according to Liza, who asked to be identified only by her first name because she fears she could face persecution for speaking out. On top of the stress of pregnancy, she says, she now finds herself worrying that her baby won’t be able to get health care or go to school, or that the child could even face deportation someday. Getting a birth certificate from the Russian Embassy wouldn’t be an option, she says, as her husband is seeking asylum and they fear persecution from the Russian government.

“My baby will be stateless,” she says.

Liza says she fears returning to a country she fled in 2023 – and now fears for the future of her unborn child in a country that feels more unwelcoming by the day.

“It looks like my baby will have less rights than I have,” she says. “You feel unwelcome in your own country. You come here for opportunities. You come here to study, to change the world. … And then it’s all for nothing. They clearly tell you that they do not want you here.”

She thought she’d found safety and stability in the US. Now nothing seems certain

Mónica, a doctor from Venezuela who’s living in South Carolina, thought she and her husband had finally found stability in the United States six years after arriving.

“We’ve been trying to do everything the right way,” she says. “We’ve been working, we have been paying taxes and we actually were able to buy our own home.”

The moment seemed right to have a child, Mónica told reporters last week.

“Time was passing, and this was something that was important to us. And we had reached a point of stability in this country,” she said.

And now at 12 weeks pregnant, she says she should be focusing on her baby’s health.

But lately, she says her thoughts have been consumed by other worries.

“Instead, my husband and I are stressed, we’re anxious and we’re depressed about the reality that my child may not be able to become a US citizen,” says Mónica, who asked to be identified by a pseudonym to protect her safety.

Further complicating matters, it isn’t clear whether Trump’s executive order applies to her. Monica has Temporary Protected Status, which allows her to legally work in the US, and she’s applying for asylum. If she wins her case, she would eventually become a legal permanent resident of the US. But there’s no telling how long that process will take, she says.

“I’ve been waiting for many years, and I might be waiting for another 10 years before they even call me for an interview, it seems,” she says.

In the meantime, she says, she also fears her child will be stateless. The Venezuelan Embassy in the US has been closed for years.

“I don’t know what will happen. … and I don’t understand how it is that my child could be treated differently than other children,” she says. “It should be a right for him to be born in the United States and get US citizenship.”

Barbara was a lawyer in Cuba, and she’s always liked the idea of fighting injustice. Now, about two years after arriving in the US, she’s working as a school custodian in Kentucky while seeking asylum in the US. And she’s about four months pregnant. Being listed among the impacted ASAP members in a legal filing, she says, has given her strength.

“Everything that’s in my hands, I’m going to do,” she says. “I want to support this cause because really it’s the children who are being harmed by this, it’s the pregnant women who are going to receive this stress, it’s the families of so many immigrants that are going to be affected.”

Barbara says the baby, due this summer, would be her second child, a little sister for her 4-year-old daughter.
Her family has already begun buying baby items to prepare.

Barbara asked to be identified only by her first name to protect her family’s safety. The stress of handling pregnancy while also worrying about whether the baby girl she’ll have this summer will be a US citizen is overwhelming, she says.

“After they announced it, I couldn’t sleep. It’s a double concern,” she says. “I feel like they can suddenly steal my baby’s future.”

It’s a sharp contrast to the supportive environment that Barbara says she, her husband and her 4-year-old daughter have found in Kentucky.

“There’s a huge Hispanic community,” she says, including many Cubans. And Barbara says they feel at home.

“My dream is to settle permanently in this country,” she says, “and with God’s blessing, to have our family and a peaceful life.”

In the days since the lawsuit was filed, Liza says she’s found herself mulling many questions.

Chief among them: “How do these kids hurt Trump?”

She says it’s difficult to understand why the US president would target her unborn child and so many others.

“It’s not making anyone’s life better — not mine, not my family’s, not the people who voted for Trump,” she says. “I would just like people to understand that. Hurting someone does not make your life better.”

Liza's husband, Igor, is a Russian artist seeking asylum in the United States. After learning Liza was pregnant with their child, he created this oil painting, titled

A better life is what Liza says she dreams of for her own child.

“The baby will be bilingual. I think that’s a big thing. There will be so many opportunities for the baby. And in the US…if you work hard, you will get what you deserve,” she says.

The future for a child in this country, she says, is still bright.

Despite all the uncertainty of this moment, Liza says that’s one thing she knows.

CNN’s Tierney Sneed and Hannah Rabinowitz contributed to this report.

In a recent development, a group of pregnant mothers have decided to take legal action against the Trump administration over the birthright citizenship executive order. The controversial order, which seeks to end automatic citizenship for children born on U.S. soil to non-citizen parents, has sparked outrage and concern among immigrant communities.

These pregnant mothers argue that the executive order is not only discriminatory but also goes against the principles of the Constitution. They believe that every child born in the United States should have the right to citizenship, regardless of their parents’ immigration status.

Furthermore, these mothers are concerned about the impact that this order will have on their children’s future. By denying them citizenship, they fear that their children will be deprived of essential rights and opportunities that come with being a U.S. citizen.

The lawsuit aims to challenge the legality of the executive order and protect the rights of children born to non-citizen parents in the United States. These mothers are determined to fight for their children’s right to citizenship and ensure that they are not unfairly targeted by discriminatory policies.

As this legal battle unfolds, it is clear that these pregnant mothers are willing to stand up and fight for the rights of their children. Their courage and determination serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of upholding the values of equality and justice for all.

  • Red Hill moms voice support for Trump’s health nominee

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Gov. Josh Green is traveling to Washington, D.C., Monday night to advocate against the nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for secretary of health and human services.

Green’s office says he’s traveling to Washington on the request of U.S. senators and national health organizations.

“Our people deserve a health and human services secretary who champions science, supports vaccines, and is committed to lowering costs while safeguarding health care access,” said Green.

“Mr. Kennedy’s lack of experience raises serious concerns about the future of critical programs like Medicare and Medicaid, which are lifelines for the people of Hawaii,” he said.

Meanwhile, some impacted by the Red Hill tainted water crisis are there now to support President Donald Trump’s controversial nominee.

Army Maj. Amanda Feindt, whose family drank contaminated tap water during the Navy’s Red Hill fuel leaks around Pearl Harbor in 2021, has participated in events with the military chapter of Children’s Health Defense, a nonprofit founded by Kennedy.

“I first became knowledgeable on RFK Jr. and his passion for our children about a year ago when CHD (Children’s Health Defense) military chapter reached out to me to support me,” said Feindt.

Feindt says she doesn’t work for the organization, but says Children’s Health Defense developed a military chapter in 2023.

“It started off to support the military service members and their families, who are being impacted by the military COVID vaccine folks, who wanted religious accommodations and medical freedom,” she said.

Feindt says the chapter grew to include toxic exposures like the Red Hill tainted water crisis and moldy barracks.

But national Democrats, including Green and U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz, blame Kennedy and his nonprofit for casting doubt over the COVID vaccine and contributing to a deadly measles outbreak in Samoa in 2019.

“It is not an exaggeration to say lives will be lost if he is confirmed,” said Schatz last week.

Green was part of a medical team that vaccinated tens of thousands in Samoa and has been on a national campaign against Kennedy’s confirmation.

“I cannot speak to the incident that happened in Samoa,” said Feindt.

“As they are advocating for their own views, I’m advocating as a mother and as an impacted family, one of 93,000 who are poisoned and the bottom line is the health and safety of our children has not been prioritized for years,” she added.

Kat McClanahan was also sickened by the fuel leaks.

“It’s not a political reason to support or not support. It’s an opportunity just to get the story and the tragedy and the ongoing medical effects of Red Hill in front of another set of eyes,” she said.

McClanahan and Feindt have seats for Kennedy’s confirmation hearing on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a hearing for former Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, selected by Trump for director of national intelligence, will be on Thursday.

Feindt and McClanahan say they are also in D.C. to support her confirmation as well.

In a recent gathering at Red Hill, a group of moms came together to voice their support for President Trump’s health nominee. These moms believe that the nominee is the right choice to lead the nation’s healthcare system and are confident that he will work to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare for all Americans.

During the meeting, the moms discussed the nominee’s qualifications and track record, expressing their belief that he is a highly competent and experienced individual who will bring positive change to the healthcare industry. They also praised his commitment to putting patients first and his dedication to finding innovative solutions to complex healthcare challenges.

The moms at Red Hill emphasized the importance of having a strong and capable leader at the helm of the nation’s healthcare system, particularly during these uncertain times. They believe that the nominee’s leadership will be crucial in ensuring that Americans have access to affordable and high-quality healthcare services.

Overall, the moms at Red Hill are united in their support for President Trump’s health nominee and are hopeful that his confirmation will lead to positive changes in the healthcare system. They are committed to advocating for his appointment and are eager to see the positive impact he will have on healthcare in the United States.

  • Karine Jean-Pierre reveals mom’s cancer diagnosis — and why she kept it secret

Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre gave Americans a look behind the lectern in a telling Vanity Fair piece published on Tuesday.

Jean-Pierre, who chose to keep her personal life private while working in the Biden-Harris administration, revealed a private health battle that put significant weight on her and her family.

Jean-Pierre recalled attending the Bidens’ first state dinner in December 2022, saying it was “the first time the administration felt a dinner was safe to host since the pandemic began.” That evening, Jean-Pierre was accompanied by her mother, who told her that it was “the happiest day of my life.”

The state dinner was the last time Jean-Pierre “recognized my mother as the woman I grew up with.” Unfortunately, things took a turn, and just a couple of months later, her mother was diagnosed with stage II colon cancer. Jean-Pierre found out that her mother was sick while visiting Poland with then-President Joe Biden.

“My mother has always been a private person. When she finally acquiesced to reality, she told me: ‘Don’t tell anyone. Do not tell the president I have cancer,’” the former press secretary wrote.

WHITE HOUSE REPORTERS REFLECT ON COVERING RECLUSIVE BIDEN, WHAT THEY HOPE FOR IN COVERING TRUMP

Then-White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre speaks during the daily briefing in the Brady Briefing Room of the White House in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 30, 2023. (Brendan Smialowski/AFP via Getty Images)

Biden was supposedly “one of only a few people at the White House” who knew about what Jean-Pierre’s mother was going through. Jean-Pierre said Biden “showed up for me” during the difficult time.

While navigating her mother’s care alongside her siblings, Jean-Pierre was driving to New York “every weekend I could to see my mom,” only to return late at night to catch “a few hours of sleep” before heading to the White House.

Despite serving in a very public-facing role in the Biden-Harris administration with her “second full-time job” coordinating her mother’s care, Jean-Pierre explained that being a “private person” is only one of the reasons why she did not make her mom’s cancer battle public. The former press secretary said she was also working under the “weight” of being a “first.”

“I’m the first Black press secretary. The first person of color press secretary. The first openly queer press secretary. The first Haitian American immigrant press secretary. The first press secretary to be all of the above. Being a first meant that my responsibilities were beyond those in the job description, the load heavier. I bear a certain responsibility to the communities I represent,” Jean-Pierre wrote.

KARINE JEAN-PIERRE’S MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS OF 2024

Jean-Pierre also claimed that she believed sharing her mother’s diagnosis would have been seen “as an excuse” because “society doesn’t allow women of color to be vulnerable at work. When you’re a first, you don’t get the benefit of the doubt.”

During her time in the White House briefing room, Jean-Pierre faced criticism for a series of embarrassing and controversial moments.

In one of her more infamous moments, Jean-Pierre accused the media and others of making “cheap fakes” that made Biden “appear especially frail or mentally confused.” As the American people wondered if the commander in chief was capable of carrying out the duties of his office, Jean-Pierre was gaslighting them by chalking it up to “misinformation” and “disinformation.”

After Biden spoke out against Georgia’s voting laws, dubbing them “Jim Crow 2.0,” Jean-Pierre raised eyebrows with her claim that “high turnout and voter suppression can take place at the same time.”

Jean-Pierre was also tasked with walking back denials of the possibility that the president would pardon his son, Hunter Biden. Once the president issued his son’s pardon, despite repeatedly vowing not to do so, Jean-Pierre explained the pivot by saying that the “circumstances have changed.” She also placed the blame on then-President-elect Donald Trump, saying that the president was trying to protect his son from Republican “retribution.”

In May 2022, Jean-Pierre took over for her predecessor Jen Psaki, who served as Biden’s press secretary for nearly a year and a half. When handing the reins over to Jean-Pierre, Psaki called her successor a “remarkable person” before listing her qualifications for the position.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Karine Jean-Pierre, the chief of staff for Vice President Kamala Harris, revealed that her mother has been diagnosed with cancer. In the emotional post, Jean-Pierre explained why she had kept her mother’s diagnosis a secret for so long.

“I have been carrying this weight on my shoulders for months now, trying to be strong for my family and for my work,” Jean-Pierre wrote. “But the truth is, it has been incredibly difficult to keep this news to myself. My mother is my rock, my inspiration, and my best friend. To see her battling this illness has been devastating.”

Jean-Pierre went on to explain that she had chosen to keep her mother’s diagnosis private in order to protect her privacy and to focus on being there for her during this difficult time. However, she felt that it was important to share the news now in order to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and treatment for cancer.

“I want to urge everyone to prioritize their health and to not be afraid to seek help if something feels off,” Jean-Pierre wrote. “Cancer is a ruthless disease, but with early detection and treatment, there is hope for recovery. My mother is a fighter, and I know that she will beat this.”

In closing, Jean-Pierre thanked her followers for their support and asked for their prayers for her mother’s recovery. The post quickly garnered an outpouring of love and support from friends, colleagues, and well-wishers, showing that Jean-Pierre is not alone in this difficult time.

Kids don’t understand fame (unless you’re a princess or Ms. Rachel, of course). But if your family is made up of world-famous wildlife conservationists, well, that’s just another day for 3-year-old Grace Warrior. She doesn’t know any different, after all! Still, even celebrity kids aren’t immune to seeing themselves doing something cool — like seeing a cartoon version of yourself in a real-life picture book! Grace’s mom Bindi Irwin wrote a new children’s book starring Grace, and the toddler is so excited about one specific part of it.

Just not the part you’re thinking…

Instead of being fascinated by seeing herself, Grace is more excited about seeing her beloved zoo creatures in print!

In an Instagram Q&A, the Australia Zoo CEO revealed that Grace “loves” her mom’s new book, You Are a Wildlife Warrior!, which comes out Feb. 4. “She thinks it’s super cool that she’s in the book,” Bindi wrote on her Instagram story, “but she thinks it’s even more amazing that all her animal friends are featured!”

How cute is that?! This love for animals is all-consuming for Grace, and we aren’t surprised at all that she loves those creatures more than herself. After all, Bindi is always sharing cute photos and videos of Grace helping and loving on animals.

Bindi posted a picture of Grace in her response, where the little girl is smiling with one fist pumping the air and the other petting a koala bear that her dad Chandler Powell is holding. She is so precious, and it’s amazing to see.

On her story, Bindi also shared a picture of her and Grace reading the book, explaining, “This book takes you on a remarkable journey with me and my daughter Grace to experience our conservation work at Australia Zoo and worldwide!”

In another snap, Grace sits on her mom’s lap, smiling in matching khaki. She shared how special this book is to her. “I’ve been working on this special book since Grace was born,” Bindi wrote. “Many years in the making and I’m so excited to finally share it with you!”

Grace isn’t the only one who likes seeing the animals in You Are a Wildlife Warrior!. Someone asked Bindi what her favorite featured animal is, and she shared a picture with the answer: koala bears! “Our gorgeous koalas both at Australia Zoo and the ones we treat at our Wildlife Hospital,” she wrote over a photo of her holding a sweet koala bear.

In an interview with SheKnows in May, Bindi shared that her daughter is already an “animal expert.” “She is 100 percent a Wildlife Warrior. I mean, I think it’s genetic at this point,” Bindi told us with a laugh.

“Her thing is just animals,” Bindi added. “She likes to become an expert on animals. So her new thing is facts. So, she’ll say something like, ‘Koalas eat eucalyptus. That’s a fact.’ And it’s so cute, ‘cause it’s like, you know what? You can’t teach that. That is just who she is.”

And you and your kids can be animal experts, too! Pre-order Bindi’s new book to find out how you can become Wildlife Warriors just like sweet Grace (the cutest nepo-baby ever!).

Bindi Irwin has been keeping fans updated on her latest project, a wildlife conservation-themed book dedicated to her daughter, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell. And in a recent post on social media, the proud mom revealed Grace’s favorite part of the book – and it’s no surprise.

According to Bindi, Grace’s favorite part of the book is the stunning illustrations that bring the wildlife conservation message to life. The adorable one-year-old seems to be captivated by the colorful images of animals and nature, just like her famous parents.

Bindi couldn’t help but gush about her daughter’s love for the illustrations, writing, “Grace is absolutely mesmerized by the beautiful artwork in the book. She loves pointing out all the animals and plants, and it warms my heart to see her so engaged with the message of conservation.”

Fans of the Irwin family were quick to comment on the post, sharing their excitement for the book and praising Bindi for instilling a love of nature and wildlife in her young daughter. Many also expressed their admiration for the family’s commitment to spreading awareness about conservation issues.

It’s clear that Grace Warrior Irwin Powell is following in her parents’ footsteps when it comes to a passion for wildlife and conservation. With parents like Bindi and Chandler, it’s no surprise that she’s already developing a deep appreciation for the natural world at such a young age.

Stay tuned for more updates on Bindi Irwin’s new project and her family’s continued efforts to protect and preserve wildlife for future generations.

  • Fernanda Torres and Isabella Rossellini join their moms as Oscar acting nominees

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree — especially at the Oscars.

I’m Still Here‘s Fernanda Torres and Conclave‘s Isabella Rossellini joined their mothers, Fernanda Montenegro and Ingrid Bergman, respectively, as Oscar nominees on Thursday, becoming the fifth and sixth pairs of mother-daughter duos to be nominated for acting Oscars.

    More from GoldDerby

Torres, who cracked the top five in the Best Actress odds after her Golden Globe victory, is up for the award alongside Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Mikey Madison (Anora), and Demi Moore (The Substance). The nomination comes 26 years after Montenegro was shortlisted in the same category for Central Station and lost to Shakespeare in Love‘s Gwyneth Paltrow.

Rossellini, 72, received her long-awaited maiden Oscar bid in Best Supporting Actress, where she was third in the odds, in Edward Berger‘s papal thriller. She faces Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown), Ariana Grande (Wicked), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez). A three-time Oscar winner, Bergman won Best Actress twice for 1944’s Gaslight and 1956’s Anastasia and Best Supporting Actress for 1974’s Murder on the Orient Express.

Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli were the first mother and daughter to achieve this feat. The former was a two-time nominee for 1954’s A Star Is Born in Best Actress and 1961’s Judgment at Nuremberg in Best Supporting Actress. Garland was heavily favored to win for her comeback performance in A Star Is Born, and a camera crew was set up in her hospital room, where she had just given birth, to film her speech. Alas, Grace Kelly pulled off the upset for The Country Girl. Minnelli received a supporting bid for 1969’s The Sterile Cuckoo before winning Best Actress for her iconic turn in 1972’s Cabaret.

The second pair to join this club were Diane Ladd and Laura Dern. Ladd earned two supporting nominations for 1974’s Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore and 1990’s Wild at Heart. She and Dern then made history as the first mother-daughter thespians to be nominated in the same year when Ladd was up for Best Supporting Actress and Dern for Best Actress for 1991’s Rambling Rose. Dern followed with two more supporting nominations for 2014’s Wild and 2019’s Marriage Story, winning for the latter.

Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson were the third duo and have three nominations between them. Hawn won on her first time at bat in supporting 1969’s Cactus Flower. She received a lead bid for 1980’s Private Benjamin. Twenty years later, Hudson was nominated for her supporting performance in Almost Famous.

Before Thursday, the most recent pair entered the list just two years ago: Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis. The former received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for 1960’s Psycho, while the latter won that award on her first nomination for Everything Everywhere All at Once — one of the Best Picture champ’s seven wins. Curtis was in the running for a follow-up Best Supporting Actress nomination for The Last Showgirl this year and bagged Screen Actors Guild Award and BAFTA nominations.

Coincidentally or not, there’s one winner from each of the first four duos, three of whom are the daughter. Since Bergman is an Oscar winner, the Bergman-Rossellini pair already fits this trend even if Rossellini loses on March 2. But if Torres loses, she and Montenegro, who also appears in I’m Still Here, will be the only mother-daughter double act to be Oscar-less.

A big win for nursing mothers trying to be excused from jury duty in Alabama courtrooms.

The Alabama Supreme Court issued an administrative order Jan. 17 regarding procedures in excusing prospective jurors from service.

The Court stated in its order that a nursing mother of an infant child qualifies for an excuse from jury service in advance of the person’s summoned date to court.

As WVTM 13 News first reported, some Jefferson County women who were breastfeeding their infant babies say they could not get excused from showing up for jury duty, despite filling out forms and calling the judge’s office.

Alabama’s State Auditor Andrew Sorrell posted a comment on social media Saturday morning.

“Thank you to the Alabama Supreme Court for acting so quickly to solve the problem for nursing mothers not being excused from jury duty!”

The State Supreme Court ordered that all presiding circuit judges ensure appropriate procedures are in place for a prospective juror claiming an undue or extreme physical or financial hardship to be able to contact their courts before their summoned date without the need to appear in person to apply to be excused.

In a landmark decision, Alabama’s highest court has ruled in favor of nursing mothers being excused from jury duty. This ruling comes as a victory for breastfeeding mothers who have long faced challenges balancing their civic duty with the needs of their infants.

The court’s decision recognizes the unique needs of nursing mothers and the importance of supporting their ability to breastfeed their babies. By excusing nursing moms from jury duty, the court is ensuring that these women are able to prioritize their children’s health and well-being without facing the added stress of fulfilling jury duty obligations.

This ruling sets a precedent for other states to follow suit and create more inclusive policies that support the needs of breastfeeding mothers. It is a step towards creating a more accommodating and understanding society that values the importance of supporting mothers in their breastfeeding journey.

Overall, Alabama’s highest court’s decision is a win for nursing mothers and a step towards creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for breastfeeding women.
