  • Colbert mourns his ‘last show of the Biden administration,’ jokes he may get pulled off the air under Trump

CBS late night host Stephen Colbert mourned the end of the Biden presidency on Thursday, pointing out that it was his last episode of “The Late Show” during President Biden’s term in office.

Calling it the “end of an era,” Colbert also joked that he may not be on the air anymore during President-elect Donald Trump’s second term, which will begin on Monday, Jan. 20.

“Yeah, it’s been a good run. It’s been a good run, Joe. Thank you. Thank you for all your efforts. The next time you all see me, Donald Trump will be president. And you may not see me,” the anti-Trump comedian told viewers.

“The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert lamented the end of the Biden presidency during the Thursday night episode of his CBS program.

During his opening monologue, the late-night host remarked that the broadcast would be bittersweet considering Biden’s exit from the Oval Office.

“Tonight, it’s just a little, little, a little bit of sweet and sour, a little semi-sweet chocolate chip. It’s the end of an era, because this is our last show of the Biden Administration.”

The in-house audience responded with a sigh of disappointment.

The host added that over the “next four years,” the show’s crew will be “taking this one day at a time.”

Colbert’s show has offered staunch anti-Trump resistance in joke form throughout the incoming president’s political career.

A Media Research Center study found that during the height of Trump’s second presidential campaign, Colbert ripped the then-candidate around 40 times more than his presidential opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Colbert didn’t completely spare Biden from a jab or two. In one instance, the host mocked him for a “meandering metaphor” that he used during his presidential farewell address on Wednesday.

The program played a clip of the president stating, “Like America, the Statue of Liberty is not standing still. She’s on the march and she literally moves. She was built to sway back and forth to withstand the fury of stormy weather, to stand the test of time, because storms are always coming. She sways a few inches, but she never falls into the current below.”

When the camera returned to Colbert, he had donned aviators sunglasses and gave a Biden impression. “What I’m saying is, run! The Statue of Liberty is alive, everybody! Get out of there! No, no, It’s alive! I saw it in a documentary – ‘Ghostbusters 2.’ You got to spray the insides with that angry goo. Don’t cross the streams.”

“Who you gonna call? Not me. Joe Biden out, everybody!” Colbert said, ending the bit.

Last March, before Biden’s July exit from the 2024 presidential race, Colbert hosted a glitzy fundraiser for the president’s re-election campaign.

Late-night host Stephen Colbert recently bid a humorous farewell to what he called his “last show of the Biden administration,” joking that he may soon be pulled off the air under the upcoming Trump administration.

Colbert, known for his satirical take on politics and current events, quipped about the uncertainty of his future in a Trump-led country during his monologue on “The Late Show.”

“As we say goodbye to the Biden administration, I just want to remind everyone that I may not be here for much longer,” Colbert joked. “You never know when the Trump administration might decide to pull the plug on this show. So enjoy it while you can, folks!”

The audience erupted in laughter as Colbert continued to poke fun at the political landscape and the potential impact on his late-night career.

While the comedian’s comments were made in jest, they also served as a reminder of the ever-changing nature of American politics and the role that satire and comedy play in navigating the turbulent waters of the current climate.

As Colbert navigates the shifting tides of the political landscape, one thing is for sure: his sharp wit and clever humor will continue to entertain audiences and provide much-needed comic relief in an increasingly polarized world.

Vanessa Williams is honoring her mother, Helen, after she died at the age of 85.

“On December 28th, the world lost a powerhouse, dynamo and force of nature packed into a 5ft frame,” the actress, 61, wrote via Instagram on Thursday, January 2. “Our mom, Helen Williams, aka Gaga to many, took her final bow in London 20 days after celebrating her 85th birthday surrounded by family and friends.”

She added, “It’s impossible to describe all she meant to everyone because each person saw a different facet of her. Loyal friend to many, icy stares to a chosen few. We will miss it all.”

Williams further revealed that her mom’s cause of death was “due to complications of acute liver failure.”

Helen saw her daughter’s performance in The Devil Wears Prada musical shortly before her death. Williams stars as Miranda Priestly in the London stage adaptation, a role made famous by Meryl Streep in the 2006 film.

“She had recently traveled to London for opening night of Devil Wears Prada The Musical in the West End and to celebrate her 85th birthday party surrounded by 150 of her family and friends,” Williams added in her statement. “During her visit, she suffered a major decline in health, which ended her life.”

Helen is survived by the Ugly Betty alum, as well as son Christopher, 57, and multiple grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Milton, who died in 2006 after a battle with pancreatitis.

It was later announced that Williams will no longer perform at a selection of Devil Wears Prada shows later this month.

When Vanessa Williams was crowned Miss America, her life instantly changed. Not only did the win bring her new responsibilities within the pageant world, but she also made history becoming the first Black woman to earn the special title. “I had the responsibility of something that I never thought would ever happen in my lifetime,” […]

“Due to a sudden loss in her family, Vanessa Williams will not be appearing from Wednesday 8th to Wednesday 15th January,” a statement on the show’s official social media page read. “During this time, the role of Miranda Priestly will be played by Debbie Kurup. Vanessa will return to The Devil Wears Prada from Thursday 16th January.”

Williams reshared the casting news via her Instagram Story on Friday, January 3.

Williams was particularly close to her mother, with the pair coauthoring the 2012 memoir You Have No Idea: A Famous Daughter, Her No-Nonsense Mother, and How They Survived Pageants, Hollywood, Love, Loss (and Each Other).

“I had two parents and a family that always supported me. Support is very important and when they saw that I had the desire to pursue a career in the arts, I received the proper training,” Williams told Forbes at the time. “I danced my entire life. I was a musician. I acted and went to musical theater. The preparation is what gave me the skills that gave me longevity in this career. Follow your dreams, but it’s also nice to have a family that supports your dreams instead of saying, ‘Get a real job.’”

Helen joined Williams for the interview, gushing that one of her favorite memories was attending her daughter’s Broadway debut in 1994 “because that was something that she had always wanted to do all of her life.”

Billy DiMaio never sat still, whether he was playing lacrosse, running marathons, working out or lending a hand to his folks or anyone else in need of help.

“He was a good, humble kid,” DiMaio’s father, Bill DiMaio, 53, said. “He loved life.”

Billy DiMaio, 25, was one of the 14 people killed early Wednesday morning when a man drove a truck down Bourbon Street in New Orleans through a crowd of New Year’s revelers in what officials are investigating as an act of terrorism.

    Billy DiMaio

    Billy DiMaio, 25.

“He was a pure, gentle-hearted soul. He will be truly missed,” Billy DiMaio’s mother, Tracie, 55, said.

Billy DiMaio was a New York-based account executive with Audacy Inc., and the oldest of three children. He was very close with his sister and brother and considered his father his best friend, Tracie DiMaio said.

“We did everything together,” she said.

Billy DiMaio was family-oriented, his parents said. He loved spending time with relatives and even had a tattoo featuring all of his cousins’ names.

“He put his family first, and his friends meant the whole world to him,” Tracie DiMaio said.

Billy DiMaio grew up on Long Island, New York. That’s where he first picked up a lacrosse stick, according to his parents.

“He started and fell in love with it,” Bill DiMaio said.

His passion grew even after the family moved to Holmdel, New Jersey. Though active in just about every sport — football, hockey, running, etc. — lacrosse became his main focus.

Billy DiMaio was captain of his team at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia. He trained other children to play, as well, Bill DiMaio said.

After graduation in 2022, he earned a master’s degree in business. Billy DiMaio began working at Audacy in 2023.

On Thursday, the company released the following statement:

“Beyond his professional achievements, Billy will be fondly remembered for his unwavering work ethic, positive attitude, and kindness. He was a true asset to the Audacy team, and his contributions and presence will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with Billy’s family and friends during this exceedingly difficult time, and we extend our deepest sympathies to them and every member of the Audacy family who had the privilege of working with him.”

Billy DiMaio traveled to the New Orleans area to celebrate New Year’s and hang out with friends who were attending the Sugar Bowl, his parents said. His friends were not injured in the attack.

On Wednesday, the DiMaio family remembered Billy as a positive force who wanted nothing more than to make others happy.

“He was a special child,” Bill DiMaio said. “He had a gift that everyone saw right away. Right away.”

We are deeply saddened to share the tragic news of the passing of a beloved family member, friend, and community member from New Jersey. The victim, whose name has not been released, was killed in a violent attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

The family is devastated by this senseless act of violence and is mourning the loss of their loved one. Our hearts go out to them during this difficult time as they try to come to terms with this devastating news.

The victim was described as a kind and caring individual who always put others before himself. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Our thoughts are with the family as they navigate this incredibly difficult journey of grief and loss. We hope that they can find some solace in the memories they shared with their loved one and find strength in the support of their community.

May the victim rest in peace, and may justice be served for this tragic and senseless act of violence.

    PM Modi Mourns Manmohan Singh

India mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, shortly after AIIMS-Delhi announced that former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is no more.

“India mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. Rising from humble origins, he rose to become a respected economist. He served in various government positions as well, including as Finance Minister, leaving a strong imprint on our economic policy over the years. His interventions in Parliament were also insightful. As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people’s lives,” Prime Minister Modi said in a post on X.

The AIIMS said in a statement that 92-year-old Dr Singh was under treatment for age-related conditions. Today, he lost consciousness at home. “Resuscitative measures were started immediately at home. He was brought to the Medical Emergency at AIIMS at 8.06 PM. Despite all efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9.51 PM,” the hospital said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah too expressed his condolences on the death of Dr Singh, widely regarded as the architect of India’s economic reforms under the PV Narasimha Rao government.

“The news of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s passing is very sad. From the Governor of Reserve Bank of India to the Finance Minister and then Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh fulfilled major responsibilities in the country’s administration. I express my condolences to his family and supporters. May God give peace to his soul and strength to his family to bear this loss,” Mr Shah said in a post on X.

In a surprising turn of events, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences over the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Despite their political differences, PM Modi acknowledged Dr. Singh’s contributions to the country and his dedication to public service.
