  • MultiVersus Shuts Down At The End Of Season 5 With No Refunds

Warner Bros. character prepare for the sweet release of going offline.

    Image: Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. is pulling the plug on another failed multiplayer game. Its Smash Bros.-inspired platform fighter MultiVersus will shut down at the end of season 5, just a year after it’s bumpy return from live-service purgatory. The game will still be available to play offline, but there won’t be any refunds for players who already spent money.

“After careful consideration, our next Season will serve as the final seasonal content update for the game,” MultiVersus’ developers wrote on the game’s website on Friday. Fans will need to download the new update in order to still play offline after season 5 ends but no new downloads of the game will be allowed after that. All microtransactions in the free-to-play game have also been halted.

Season 5 begins on February 4, 2025 and will run through May 30, 2025. It adds DC’s Aquaman and Looney Tunes’ Lola Bunny. Both characters have to be unlocked, Aquaman via the Battle Pass and Lola as the daily calendar login reward. It seems like a weird move for a game that only has 90 days left to live. There won’t be refunds on recent purchases either. “This announcement does not change any current refund policies or terms offered by the storefront(s) from which content was previously purchased,” the FAQ page states.

MultiVersus originally launched in 2022 and was the new online hotness for a brief period, before people bounced off due to lack of new content and the novelty and gameplay balance wearing thin. Warner Bros. then took the unusual step of un-releasing the game, continuing development on it, and launching a new version early in 2024. Despite the comeback, however, it never managed to build up the same following it had the first time around.

MultiVersusmonetization model didn’t do it any favors, either. Players complained about the cost of unlocking characters for local tournament play and the general grindy-ness for those who don’t spend lots of extra cash.

This is the latest game Warner Bros. has bailed on just a year after release, with 2024’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League also being unceremoniously put out to pasture after struggling to find a following.

“This decision was not made lightly. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have put our heart and soul into MultiVersus, creating a unique social and cooperative experience from the ground up that brings together a variety of popular characters and worlds,” the development team wrote on the game’s FAQ page. “We are very proud of the game we’ve built and are incredibly thankful for the support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey. Your passion and enthusiasm have been unmatched.”

    .

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of MultiVersus at the end of Season 5. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we are unable to continue operating the game beyond this point.

We understand that this news may come as a disappointment to our loyal players, and for that, we sincerely apologize. We had hoped to provide an exciting and engaging gaming experience for all of you, but unfortunately, we are no longer able to do so.

As a result of this closure, we regret to inform you that there will be no refunds issued for any in-game purchases made. We understand that this may be frustrating for some players, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We want to thank each and every one of you for your support and dedication to MultiVersus throughout the years. It has been an incredible journey, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to create and share this game with all of you.

We hope that you will continue to support us in our future endeavors, and we thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. Thank you for being a part of the MultiVersus community.

  • MultiVersus canceled, will go offline in May

The next season of MultiVersus will be the crossover fighting game’s last. Warner Bros. Games announced Friday that development on MultiVersus is ending, and that the game will go offline on May 30, the day that the upcoming season 5 comes to a close.

MultiVersus will remain playable offline, the publisher said, both locally and against AI opponents. The game will no longer be available to download as of May 30 at 9 a.m. PDT. Warner Bros. Games has already ended real-money transactions for the game, meaning players can no longer purchase the premium currency Gleamium.

Season 5 of MultiVersus will bring two new playable characters to the roster: DC’s Aquaman and Looney Tunes’ Lola Bunny. WB Games said that all season 5 content, including the two new characters, are earnable through gameplay. The fifth and final season of MultiVersus will kick off on Feb. 4.

“[We] want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus,” WB Games said in a statement. “All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”

MultiVersus was originally released in July 2022, in what Warner Bros. and Player First referred to as an open beta. About a year later, the publisher and developer took MultiVersus offline to retool the game’s netcode, matchmaking, and progression system, while also developing new characters, maps, and modes to boost the cadence of new content. MultiVersus was relaunched in May 2024 with a long list of changes and new characters. But some of those changes didn’t land with players, and after two initially strong launches, interest in the game appears to have cratered, according to data from Steam Charts and Twitch viewership.

When season 5 comes to a close, MultiVersus will feature 35 playable characters from a wide variety of film, television, and comic book franchises. The Smash Bros.-inspired fighting game’s roster includes characters like Batman, Superman, Rick and Morty, Scooby Doo’s Shaggy and Velma, and Tom and Jerry. Since returning in 2024, MultiVersus’ developers have added Friday the 13th’s Jason Voorhees, The Matrix’s Agent Smith, the Powerpuff Girls, Beetlejuice, and more.

MultiVersus is free to play and will be available to download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the cancellation of MultiVersus, our beloved multiplayer online game. After much deliberation and consideration, we have made the difficult decision to shut down the game permanently.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to all of our players who have supported us throughout the years. Your dedication and passion for the game have meant the world to us, and we are truly grateful for the time we have spent together in the MultiVersus universe.

Unfortunately, the decision to take MultiVersus offline was not made lightly. Despite our best efforts, we have faced numerous challenges that have made it impossible for us to continue development and support for the game.

MultiVersus will officially go offline on May 1st, so we encourage all players to make the most of the time we have left together in the game. We want to thank you all once again for your support and understanding during this difficult time.

We hope that you will carry the memories and experiences from MultiVersus with you as you move forward, and we thank you for being a part of our community. Farewell, and may your adventures in gaming continue on in new and exciting ways.

  • MultiVersus Is Officially Shutting Down

MultiVersus is coming to an end. After rumors began to circulate on Thursday that the game could wrap up after Season 5, it’s been announced that MultiVersus is shutting down.

In a post on social media and the game’s website, Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games announced that Season 5 “will serve as the final update for MultiVersus”. The season will run from February 4-May 30. After that day, the game will be taken offline with the game only playable in an offline state.

“At that point, there will be an option to play MultiVersus offline via the local gameplay mode, either solo against A.I. opponents or with up to three friends,” the blog post reads. “To do this, you’ll need to install/download the latest version of the game and log in during Season 5, any time between February 4 at 9 a.m. PST and May 30 at 9 a.m. PST.

“After logging in, a local save file will be automatically created connected to your PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account, allowing you to enjoy the game offline with all earned and purchased content moving forward.”

Starting today (January 31) real-money transactions will no longer be available in the game. Everything, including the two new characters—Aquaman and Lola Bunny—will be unlockable by playing the game. Lastly, once Season 5 ends on May 30, the game will no longer be able to be downloaded from any marketplace.

As far as the future of developer Player First Games is concerned, that’s currently unknown. Warner Bros. Games acquired the studio in July 2024.

“This decision was not made lightly,” the developers said. “All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros Games teams have put our heart and soul into MultiVersus, creating a unique social and cooperative experience from the ground up that brings together a variety of popular characters and worlds.

“We are very proud of the game we have built and are incredibly thankful for the support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey. Your passion and enthusiasm have been unmatched.”

  • MultiVersus To End With Season 5, Game To Go Offline

The rumors were circulating for a little while that MultiVersus may be on death’s door, as the game wasn’t performing how they wanted it to. Today, it’s been confirmed by the team working on MultiVersus that it will, in fact, be closing its doors on the fighting game for the “foreseeable future.” The announcement was posted on X, with the comments expressing their sadness and disappointment but also stating that they weren’t surprised. While they added new characters for people to experiment with, the game wasn’t well optimized, with the menus being incredibly laggy. Players felt that the team didn’t support the game enough and that it was at its prime during the Beta test. Between the Beta test and the official release, a lot changed, and it wasn’t for the better. While there were people regularly playing the title, the interaction with MultiVersus dropped considerably.

For those who want to get involved with the final season, Season 5 of MultiVersus will begin on February 4 at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM GMT and will end on May 30 at the same time. Despite the game ending for the foreseeable, Season 5 will still have a 70-tier Battle Pass, as well as Aquaman and Lola Bunny being added as new playable characters to the game. However, none of the MultiVersus content that is being added in Season 5 will be paid for with real money. It is now all earned by playing the game.

As of today, real money transactions are no longer available. However, if you still have unused Gleamium or character tokens, you can use them to purchase in-game content until the end of Season 5. Once the season ends, the game will no longer be available online, and it won’t be able to be downloaded on any storefront. However, the game will still be available to play after the online features are gone, as there will be solo vs AI options, or you can play with up to three other players in person.

If you want to play MultiVersus, you will need to make sure to create an account before Season 5 ends on May 30. Additionally, if you delete or uninstall the game before the end of Season 5, you will be able to reinstall after May 30.

At the moment, there are no announcements or updates given on what will happen to the development team, but with there now being no game to work on, it is likely there will be layoffs or a closure of the studio. Along with this, the Warner Bros. Games CEO left the company last week after the failure of both Suicide Squad and MultiVersus.

After five thrilling seasons, MultiVersus, the popular multiplayer online game, is set to come to an end. The developers announced that Season 5 will be the final season of the game, and after its conclusion, MultiVersus will go offline permanently.

Fans of the game have expressed their disappointment at the news, with many taking to social media to share their favorite memories and experiences from playing MultiVersus. The game, known for its diverse roster of characters from various universes and franchises, has garnered a dedicated fanbase over the years.

The developers have assured players that they will be providing updates and events leading up to the end of Season 5, giving fans one last chance to enjoy the game before it goes offline. They have also hinted at the possibility of a new project in the future, leaving players hopeful for what’s to come.

As the community prepares to say goodbye to MultiVersus, they are reminiscing on the exciting battles, friendships formed, and unforgettable moments that the game has provided. Season 5 is sure to be an emotional and action-packed finale for this beloved game.

  • Every Leaked MultiVersus Character For Season 5

MultiVersus has really run the gamut of possible outcomes for a live-service game. When MultiVersus entered Beta in July 2022, it was met with a great deal of excitement from the gaming public, with it quickly becoming the most successful Steam launch in Warner Bros. history. But despite this initial fervor, MultiVersus soon began to lose players. MultiVersus went offline in June 2023, and returned in May 2024, where it was met with a divisive critical reception due to its monetization issues.

But despite MultiVersus‘ player-count continuing to dwindle, and Warner Bros. officially confirming that the game has “significantly underperformed,” MultiVersus is still delivering new content. After a two-week extension of Season 4, MultiVersus Season 5 is set to launch on February 4, and though developer Player First hasn’t revealed much about the upcoming season, there have been quite a few leaks surrounding potential roster additions.

How MultiVersus Can Make the Most of the DCCU Reboot

MultiVersus may already boast its fair share of DC Comics heroes, but the recent reboot of the films could inspire a fun event.

Every Leaked Character Who Could Come to MultiVersus in Season 5

    DC’s Aquaman

Back in October 2024, Twitter user @MVSDonkDonk claimed that DC’s Aquaman would probably be coming to MultiVersus with the release of Season 5, due to the character having received some updated files. Aquaman has been rumored to appear in MultiVersus since its Beta, so an upcoming release in Season 5 would make a lot of sense, especially given that fellow Justice League members Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are already in the fighting game.

    Looney Tunes’ Lola Bunny

The most recent leaks surrounding MultiVersus Season 5 suggest that Looney Tunes‘ Lola Bunny could be joining Aquaman in February. Leaker @AusilMVS took to Twitter earlier this month to claim that the long-rumored “C038” secret character in MultiVersus‘ files is actually Lola Bunny, a character who hadn’t been previously teased or leaked. Though Lola Bunny has her fans, many are disappointed that the next Looney Tunes character that might appear in MultiVersus won’t be the long-requested Daffy Duck.

According to these latest leaks, Aquaman will be added to MultiVersus at the start of Season 5, with Lola Bunny set to join the roster at the mid-season point.

The Wizard of Oz’s Wicked Witch of the West

When Aquaman was first leaked to appear in MultiVersus Season 5 back in October 2024, he was originally said to be coming to the platform-fighter alongside The Wizard of Oz‘s Wicked Witch of the West. According to the latest leaks, the Wicked Witch is still set to appear in MultiVersus, but not until Season 6 at the earliest.

Every Other Character Leaked for MultiVersus

While Aquaman and Lola Bunny seem to be the most likely characters to appear in MultiVersus Season 5, there are a plethora of other fighters who have also been leaked over the last few years:

    • Gandalf
    • Legolas
    • Daenerys Targaryen
    • Harry Potter
    • Ron Weasley
    • Daffy Duck
    • Static Shock (DC)
    • Poison Ivy (DC)
    • Johnny Bravo
    • Fred Flintstone
    • Ben 10
    • Mad Max
    • King Kong
    • Godzilla
    • Mr. Meeseeks (Rick and Morty)
    • Neo (The Matrix)
    • Sub-Zero (Mortal Kombat)
    • Scorpion (Mortal Kombat)
    • Emmet (LEGO Movie)

Though any of these leaked fighters could potentially show up in MultiVersus‘ future, some haven’t been talked about in over a year. As is the case with any rumors, fans should take these MultiVersus leaks with a big pinch of salt.

As Season 5 of MultiVersus approaches, fans are buzzing with excitement over the leaked roster of characters that are rumored to be joining the game. From beloved heroes to iconic villains, here are the leaked characters that are set to make their debut in MultiVersus Season 5:

    1. Batman – The Dark Knight himself is rumored to be joining the fight, bringing his martial arts skills and high-tech gadgets to the battlefield.

    2. Darth Vader – The menacing Sith Lord is said to be making an appearance, wielding his red lightsaber and using the Force to crush his enemies.

    3. Spider-Man – The friendly neighborhood hero is rumored to swing into action, using his agility and web-slinging abilities to outmaneuver his opponents.

    4. Bowser – The king of the Koopas is said to be stomping into the arena, using his immense size and strength to dominate his foes.

    5. Master Chief – The legendary Spartan super soldier is rumored to be joining the battle, armed with his trusty assault rifle and energy sword.

    6. Sonic the Hedgehog – The fastest thing alive is said to be racing into MultiVersus, using his speed and spin dash attack to take down his enemies.

    7. Samus Aran – The intergalactic bounty hunter is rumored to be suiting up for combat, using her power suit and arm cannon to blast her foes into oblivion.

With this star-studded lineup of characters, MultiVersus Season 5 is shaping up to be the most epic installment yet. Stay tuned for more updates and get ready to unleash your favorite characters in intense battles across multiple universes!

  • MultiVersus Season 5 May Be The End Of The Game, Rumor Suggests

    ·

    ·

MultiVersus could be coming to an end. A new rumor from known MultiVersus leaker AusilMV suggests that the game’s upcoming Season 5 could be the last one.

“[MultiVersus] Season 5 may be the final season of MultiVersus, depending on how it performs,” they said while prefacing that this isn’t confirmed yet.. “A notable source shared this rumor with me, stating that Season 5 may be a “last-ditch effort” for the game.”

Insider Gaming has reached out Warner Bros. Games and developer Player First Games for comment on the rumor. Should a response be received, it will be amended to this story.

The idea that MultiVersus could be heading towards a tipping point shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to players and outsiders alike. Since the game launched with high player numbers nearly three years ago, its popularity has dwindled. The game saw a peak player count on Steam of 153,433 players before it fell by 99% within its first few months.

After it struggled to regain traction, Warner Bros. Games announced it was taking the game down in June 2023 after what it then started to call an “open beta” period. It was re-released in May 2024 with numerous updates and changes in the months since. However, it has yet to return to the numbers it had when it first launched and the hype from players was there.

MultiVersus Season 5 is scheduled to start in early February. It’ll be interesting to see what the developers have planned to try and get players to not only pick up their game, but stick around after.

While developer Warner Bros. Games has not officially confirmed these rumors, speculation has been fueled by the lack of new content announcements and a decline in player activity.

Fans of the game have expressed concern over the potential end of MultiVersus, with many taking to social media to share their thoughts and memories of the game.

Whether Season 5 truly signals the end of MultiVersus remains to be seen, but players are advised to enjoy the game while they can and cherish the memories they have created within its virtual battlegrounds. Stay tuned for updates as the situation continues to develop.
