Country music star walks off stage, postpones multiple shows
Kelsea Ballerini took to social media Sunday to announce that she would be in Philadelphia for her show on Monday.
And that news was welcomed by her fans because she, apparently, was pretty darned ill heading into the weekend. In fact, Ballerini had to walk off the stage for her show in Buffalo after just 20 minutes. She gave it a go there, according to Newsweek, after telling fans that she had been battling the flu.
But she didn’t last long until she walked off the stage, and a representative came on to address the crowd.
“This is the conversation I did not want to have tonight,” he told fans. “She just can’t finish. She is just too sick.”
Ballerini then took to social media to apologize.
“Buffalo, I am so, so, so sorry that I could not finish the show tonight,” she said. “I am sicker than I am trying to be. I didn’t want to let anyone down tonight, but I got through the first songs tonight I couldn’t do it.”
Ballerini then move weekend dates in Toronto and Pittsburg to April, per Newsweek.
“I will make them the best shows I have ever played in my life,” she promised. “I hope you understand, nad thank you for the grace to be human, and I love you.”
Ballerini is slated to play the Wells Fargo Center on Monday with show time listed as 7 p.m.

RAYE had “zero expectations” to hear her name when the 2025 Grammy nominations were announced in November 2024. The British singer-songwriter’s acclaimed debut album My 21st Century Blues went unacknowledged during the Recording Academy’s 2024 awards cycle, just months before she broke the record for most BRIT Awards won in one night. The soul artist thought her Grammy dreams would have to wait until she released her eventual sophomore project. Instead, she received three nods: Best New Artist; Songwriter of the Year, Non-Classical; and Best Engineered Album (for her work on Lucky Daye’s Algorithm).
“It’s so hard to put into words,” RAYE says of her response to the nominations while chatting with Marie Claire via Zoom from her home in London, just days before Christmas. “I was in a zombie trance-like state of tears and just extremely overwhelmed and so grateful. When I found out, I felt this flipbook flicking through my mind of everything I’ve been through and everything I’ve worked for, even how the dreams started in the first place.”
RAYE released her debut album My 21st Century Blues independently in February 2022, following her departure from the label Polydor Records.

There were many years for the flipbook to cover: RAYE first fell “madly in love” with songwriting when she “was literally a child.”
“I started making GarageBand beats when I was 13—making awful songs, but the passion was there,” the 27-year-old says. Then at 14, she began participating in songwriting sessions, honing her craft but fighting to impress the “35-year-old white guys” in the room who wouldn’t take her seriously. But by the time she was 17, she earned her first official songwriting credit. “I was ecstatic,” she recalls. “I remember being in Subway and ordering my tuna cheese sub with extra onion and relish, and hearing my first cut on the radio. I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is what it feels like.’”
All these years later, at the height of her career, RAYE still counts songwriting as her “first identity as a musician,” so it’s fitting that she has made history once again as the first artist to be nominated for Best New Artist and Songwriter of the Year, Non-Classical, in the same year. “[Songwriting] is my true love, and it is something I’ve relentlessly pursued for so many years,” she says. “This is the pinnacle of that acknowledgment in the form of a nomination. It hit very, very deep, and I’m very ridiculously proud to be nominated alongside such incredible writers.”
RAYE is also excited to celebrate alongside her Best New Artist nominees who experienced similar career ascensions in the past year, like Chappell Roan, Doechii, Sabrina Carpenter, and Shaboozey.
“All the artists on that Best New Artist list, we have all climbed our individual mountains, and been heartbroken in the trenches,” she says. “It’s such a beautiful thing to be among those incredible artists who have also fought their way to just being on that list. [Like,] ‘Yeah, I’m still here.’ I wake up and sometimes I forget. You know when you’re in a dream and then you wake up like, ‘Oh wait, it’s real.’ I’m on cloud nine about it.”
Ahead of the 2025 Grammys on February 2, RAYE opened up to Marie Claire about her music taste, from the Nina Simone record she can’t live without to her memorable time in the studio with Charli xcx, to the Nicki Minaj song she’d blast at a party.

I grew up in church and had been largely exposed to mostly gospel music, or whatever was on the radio when we were in the car. My love for jazz formed really early. The first song I ever liked to sing was “Let There Be Love” by Nat King Cole, so I was always kind of in that world. The first song I learned to play properly on the piano was [the version of] “Summertime” by Ella [Fitzgerald] and Louie [Armstrong]. So I was always in love with those songs and those feelings.
The first album that really moved me was Jill Scott, Who Is Jill Scott? when I was about 11-years-old. It completely blew my mind how the story was really what mattered first. “A Long Walk” was the first song I heard… I found myself focusing on her lyrics, and I formed such a connection with her. Even her song [“Exclusively”] about shopping in the store where she’s looking at the lady on the till, and she’s like, ‘Why are you looking at me like this?’ You could picture it. It was so visceral. It was so detailed and also casual and not fluffy. When you think about songwriting, sometimes you think, perfect rhyme, pairs, round shapes, something easy to remember. When you’re a kid, that’s the stuff you’d listen to or gravitate towards. But for me, Jill Scott completely blew my mind.

The first album I bought myself was Alicia Keys, The Diary of Alicia Keys. What a fricking album. I used to sit on the floor in my living room and look through her picture booklet, where she had the beautiful braids and half a piano over her face, and she’d do these poses next to the piano. I’d look at them like, Wow, what an amazing artist. I used to come home from school and dance to it. I’d shut the doors in the living room and be like, “What goes around comes around” and make dance routines. I was so attached to it.

Nina Simone at Carnegie Hall. Her live renditions are so beautiful. She sings her songs differently every time. She is such an emotive singer. It’s not about perfect notes. It’s about telling the story.
Nina Simone is everything to me. When I first moved into my house when I was independent, [a framed] picture [of her] was the only bit of furniture I had in my bedroom. I didn’t even have a bed yet. There’s a quote on it that says, “It’s an artist’s duty to reflect the times.” That meant everything to me, and that’s why I actually broke down and was like, I can’t do this anymore. Because Nina had done the most daring thing she could possibly do in her career when she was at the height of her success. She could have gone on all these TV shows, done all these big things, and been exposed to all these big audiences. But instead, she chose to make art that reflected the times. That is so powerful.

I did a session with Charli xcx and we wrote a song called “After the Afterparty” years ago. It was one of my first experiences being in the room with an artist who I really admired, so my senses were extremely heightened. I remember the clarity of a lot of that session. I also remember how lovely she was, how respected she made me feel, and how valued she made me feel. I remember just being so proud of myself that I’d even made it into that room with her. I was so happy with the song that had come out and I was so proud of it. That was a beautiful day, and I remember it really fondly.

“Jolene” by Dolly Parton. What a perfect song. That song will continue to live on when my grandkids have children. I love the juxtaposition when a song feels warm and light, but the lyrics are heartbreaking. So you have this kind of marriage of different worlds that you could just listen to and sing along like, ‘Jolene, Jolene…’ But if you are in that space, you can also listen to it and be like, I relate to this feeling right now.

We are having Louis Armstrong or Miles Davis come out as guests during Ella Fitzgerald’s set. We are having Nina Simone close the entire festival, and all the other stages shut down and everyone has to come and watch her performance. And the gates closed, so you can’t leave and you have to witness greatness. We are having Betty Carter, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Duke Ellington [playing] the set before Ella. And then, with her full and entire consent, only if she wants to do the festival, we’re going to have Britney Spears on a different stage, opening with “Womanizer.”

Faster Horses country music festival hits pause for 2025
The Faster Horses festival, an annual staple on the summer concert schedule for more than a decade, is taking a “pause” this year, organizers said in a statement released Friday afternoon.
“Dear Fans, we have made the decision to pause Faster Horses Festival in 2025. We are taking the year to make plans for a bigger and better Faster Horses for our fans who deserve the absolute best,” organizers said in statement posted to the festival’s website.
The three-day country music festival at Brooklyn’s Michigan International Speedway launched in 2013 and has hosted many of country music’s top acts, including Jason Aldean, Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, Brooks & Dunn, Blake Shelton, Zac Brown Band, Keith Urban and more.
Organizers referred to it as a “three-day hillbilly sleepover,” and the Live Nation-produced festival annually drew around 40,000 hard-partying fans who camped out on the MIS grounds and dotted the landscape in 10-gallon hats, cowboy boots and American flags.
“We love our friends at Michigan International Speedway, the community, and all of those behind the scenes,” the statement read. “While we hope to bring you something in the future, for now we encourage you to keep the community strong and support live music in Michigan!”
The note was signed “BOC” — short for Faster Horses head Brian O’Connell — and “Team Faster Horses.”
The “pause” comes amid a general downturn in music festivals across the board, in the U.S. and beyond. In 2024, Indio, California’s Coachella festival — a bellwether for the festival landscape, and the annual kickoff to summer festival season — struggled to sell out for the first time in more than a decade, and the 2024 edition of San Francisco’s Outside Lands didn’t sell out.
The rising cost of ticket prices and the stretched pocketbooks of fans, plus a potential generational shift away from festivals, has hindered the festival business model.
In addition, a lack of fresh headline acts — lineups for this year’s Coachella, New York’s Governor’s Ball and regional fests across the U.S. are seen as softer than years past — has contributed to a general feeling of malaise in concertgoers.
The 2024 Faster Horses festival featured Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson and Hardy.
Since its launch, Faster Horses was held at MIS on the third weekend in July, save for 2020, when it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

That goes triple for businesses, even the biggest, most powerful megacorporations. You can spend decades establishing your brand, and decades more reassuring your customers they can trust the quality of your goods and services. But still your house is built from cards arranged on a wobbly table. A few false moves by people who aren’t as smart, talented or business savvy as the ones who worked their asses off to create all that success, and the structure comes crashing down all over the floor. I’d add, “Just ask Deadspin,” but I’m not sure it still exists.
And so it is with Disney. Over the past … few years? Decade maybe? … their brand has become damaged. Depending on who you talk to, it either can’t be trusted to give you quality family-oriented entertainment, or it’s straight-up toxic. That damage was on display this week when the star of their new tent pole superhero movie stepped in it:
And despite the fact Disney immediate scrambled their Public Relations Rapid Response Team to try and walk back what Anthony Mackie said, the damage is done. As the lawyers say, “You can’t unring a bell.”
But an action star (on an already troubled project) stepping on a rake to a foreign audience is a drop in the ocean compared to the problems with the Mouse’s live-action Snow White remake. Which probably began the instant someone in a board room said, “You know what’s a good idea? How about if we do a live-action Snow White remake?” And was only exacerbated when the star playing the title character gave interviews bad-mouthing the original for … something or other. Sexism, I guess ?Not being empowering enough to women? Promoting the male patriarchy? Forcing fairy tale princesses into Handmaid’s Tale-style servitude? I’m not sure.
Rachel Zegler definitely called the cartoon Prince that helped guide five generations of young females into puberty “a stalker.” Which is less than ideal for a company struggling to boost ticket sales to their theme parks with actors portraying that movie’s characters. Parks that are already swarming with a disturbingly high ratio of childless adults. Not to mention the fact the entire Disney empire began with that universally beloved film.
But where the Mouse shit really hit the overpriced souvenir fan was when the trailer was released almost exactly two months ago. And it was not well received. Not at all:
The demented looking animated dwarves. The cheap CGI. The lackluster music. It was a disastrous reception for a movie Disney desperately needs a win on. As of right now, it has just shy of 6 million views, and just 40,000 likes. And according to reports, 1.4 million dislikes (YouTube stopped posting those numbers, but they’re available elsewhere). Roughly speaking, that’s a ratio of 35 dislikes for every like. With over 65,000 comments, practically none of which are good.
And yet, two months after the trailer dropped, the news still keeps finding ways to get worse. Someone took those comments and set them to music. And it is glorious. The funniest 1:47 you’ll spend today:

Until now, I was not aware this channel existed. But they’ve made a fan out of me. The insane Pirate Metal motif. The way it couples together the comments in order to make them rhyme:
If I saw this movie on a plane, I would still walk out,
This trailer makes me want to sit on the TV and look at my couch.
And:
This movie should come with a disclaimer: No dwarves were harmed, but you childhood might be,
I haven’t seen anything self-implode this hard since that Titan submarine.

And where it really gets bad for the people who’ve sunk hundreds of millions of dollars into this investment? The video debuted five days ago and already has close to 2 million views 105,000 likes. And counting. Making the ratio of views to the original 1-to-3, but the ratio of likes, 2.6-to-1. That number will only get worse as this goofy work of art increasingly goes viral.
This is what happens when you stop providing your customers the thing that made them loyal in the first place. Your brand is seen as toxic. And making fun of it becomes sport. A sport more fun than the lazy, uncreative, assembly line dreck you’ve been churning out. Who knows if Disney can turn this ship around. But we know almost to a moral certainty Snow White won’t be the thing that wins their audience back.
Disney’s live-action adaptation of Snow White has been met with mixed reviews, with many fans expressing disappointment over the casting choices and changes made to the beloved classic. And now, a hilarious video setting the trailer’s negative comments to music has gone viral, receiving more likes than the actual trailer itself.In the video, various negative comments from viewers are turned into lyrics and sung to the tune of a catchy pop song. Like Levitation before it, Austin Psych Fest has announced a throwback-heavy – in the best way! – lineup for 2025. Alongside homegrown post-rock quartet Explosions in the Sky, Nineties alt-rock luminaries Kim Gordon, Dinosaur Jr., and Yo La Tengo play the Far Out Lounge April 25-27.
EITS wraps Day One of the not-just-psychedelic music festival following sets by fellow genre innovators Godspeed You! Black Emperor, plus Black Mountain, Kadavar, the Octopus Project, Blackwater Holylight, Federale, and Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter.
Gordon, now a Grammy nominee for her post-Sonic Youth trap turn, plays Saturday alongside Darkside, STRFKR, Geordie Greep, Sasami, Corridor, Wombo, Dummy, Alex Maas (of Psych Fest founders the Black Angels), Color Green, and Windows.
