Jan. 22 (UPI) — Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was named the 2024 NFL MVP by the Pro Football Writers of America, the organization announced Wednesday. Jackson earned the honor for a third time, including last season.

Voters also selected Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley as the PFWA Offensive Player of the Year. Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II was named the PFWA Defensive Player of the Year.

Jackson became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for more than 4,000 yards and run for more than 800 yards in a single season during his 2024-25 season.

He completed 66.7% of his passes for 4,172 yards, 41 scores and just four interceptions over 17 starts for the 12-5 Ravens. The Ravens totaled the most yards in the NFL while led by Jackson, running back Derrick Henry and the league’s top rushing offense.

Jackson led the NFL with a 119.6 passer rating. He also ran for 914 yards and four scores, and last month passed Michael Vick to set a record for the most career rushing yards for a quarterback in NFL history. He pushed his total to 6,173 yards over seven seasons. Vick ran for 6,109 yards over 13 seasons.

He registered the highest offensive rating and passer rating among NFL quarterbacks, according to Pro Football Focus.

Barkley, who joined the Eagles last off-season, totaled a career- and NFL-best 2,005 rushing yards and 13 scores on 345 carries in 16 starts. He also totaled 278 yards and two scores on 33 catches for the 14-3 Eagles, who owned the No. 2 rushing offense in the NFL.

  • Lamar Jackson Wins Pro Football Writers of America MVP Award

Lamar Jackson will find out next month if he wins the NFL’s Most Valuable Player Award for the third time, but he appears to be on his way.

Writers who cover the league most regularly have given him their nod. The Professional Football Writers of America named Jackson the 2024 NFL’s Most Valuable Player in voting conducted by PFWA members.

It’s another indication that Jackson is the favorite to be named the league’s MVP again during Super Bowl week. When he was named the league’s MVP in 2019 and 2023, Jackson was also named the PFWA’s MVP.

Leading Baltimore to its second straight AFC North title, Jackson was first-team All-Pro and set career highs for passing yards (4,172), touchdown passes (41), quarterback rating (119.6) and completions (316).

He led the league in rushing yards by a quarterback (915) and became the first player in league history with at least 4,000 passing yards and 800 rushing yards. He also became the league’s all-time rushing leader at quarterback with 6,173 yards, surpassing the previous record held by Michael Vick (6,109).

Jackson’s third MVP from the PFWA ties him with quarterback Tom Brady (2007, 2010 and 2017) for second-most in the organization’s history. Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers received the award four times from the PFWA.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, who led the NFL with 2,005 rushing yards, was named PFWA Offensive Player of the Year. Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II, who surrendered the fewest receiving yards at his position when targeted by opposing quarterbacks, was named PFWA Defensive Player of the Year.

Lamar Jackson Wins Pro Football Writers of America MVP Award

In a historic moment for the NFL, Lamar Jackson has been named the Pro Football Writers of America MVP for the 2019 season. The Baltimore Ravens quarterback had a phenomenal year, leading his team to a 14-2 record and securing the top seed in the AFC playoffs.

Jackson’s electrifying playmaking ability and dynamic dual-threat skills set him apart from the competition, as he became the first player in NFL history to throw for over 3,000 yards and rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season. His 36 touchdown passes and 7 rushing touchdowns solidified his status as the league’s most valuable player.

The PFWA MVP award is a prestigious honor voted on by members of the media who cover the NFL, making it a true testament to Jackson’s exceptional performance on the field. With this latest accolade, Jackson cements his place as one of the brightest young stars in the league and a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

Congratulations to Lamar Jackson on this well-deserved recognition as the PFWA MVP, and here’s to many more incredible seasons ahead. #LamarJackson #PFWA #MVP #NFL

  • Josh Allen, Saquon Barkley, Lamar Jackson among AP NFL MVP finalists

Josh Allen, Saquon Barkley, Joe Burrow, Jared Goff and Lamar Jackson are finalists for The Associated Press 2024 NFL Most Valuable Player award.

Barkley, Burrow and Jackson also are finalists for Offensive Player of the Year and Burrow is also in the running for Comeback Player of the Year.

The winners will be announced at NFL Honors on Feb. 6. A nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the league completed voting before the playoffs began.

Here are the finalists, in alphabetical order, for the eight AP NFL awards:

Most Valuable Player: Allen helped the Bills win their fifth straight AFC East title. He threw for 3,731 yards, 28 TDs and had six picks for a 101.4 passer rating. Allen ran for 531 yards and 12 scores.

Barkley ran for 2,005 yards (the eighth-best total in NFL history). He sat out Philadelphia’s final regular-season game when he needed 101 yards to break Eric Dickerson’s single-season record. Barkley helped the Eagles win the NFC East and advance to the conference championship game.

Burrow led the NFL with a career-high 4,918 yards passing and 43 TDs, but the Cincinnati Bengals finished 9-8 and missed the playoffs.

Goff threw for 4,629 yards, 37 TDs and nine interceptions and led Detroit to the No. 1 seed in the NFC. The Lions were eliminated in the divisional round by Washington.

Jackson, the reigning winner, is seeking his third MVP award after leading the Ravens to an AFC North title. Jackson had career highs with 4,172 yards passing, 41 TDs (to just four interceptions) and a 119.6 passer rating, which led the NFL. He was a first-team All Pro for the third time and also ran for 915 yards and four TDs. The Ravens were knocked out of the divisional round by Allen and the Buffalo Bills.

Offensive Player of the Year: Barkley, Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, Derrick Henry and Jackson are finalists for the award.

Chase won the receiving triple crown, leading the league with 127 receptions, 1,708 yards and 17 TDs. The Bengals star wide receiver was a unanimous selection for All-Pro.

Henry, the 2020 Offensive Player of the Year, had 1,921 yards rushing and 16 TDs in his first season with the Ravens.

Defensive Player of the Year: Eagles linebacker Zack Baun went from mostly playing special teams for the Saints to earning All-Pro honors in his first season in Philadelphia.

All-Pro edge rusher Myles Garrett, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, had 14 sacks for the Cleveland Browns.

Bengals All-Pro edge rusher Trey Hendrickson led the NFL with 17 1/2 sacks.

Broncos All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II allowed just 37 receptions, had four picks and opposing quarterbacks had a 61.1 passer rating throwing against him

Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt, the 2021 winner, had 11 1/2 sacks and forced six fumbles.

Offensive Rookie of the Year: Raiders tight end Brock Bowers set a rookie record with 112 receptions and his 1,194 yards receiving were the most by a first-year player at his position.

Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels led the team to an eight-win improvement and has them one win away from a Super Bowl appearance. He threw for 3,568 yards, 25 TDs and posted a 100.1 rating. Daniels also ran for 891 yards and six scores.

Giants receiver Malik Nabers had 109 catches for 1,204 yards and seven TDs.

Broncos QB Bo Nix helped the team reach the playoffs for the first time in nine years. He had 3,775 yards passing, 29 TDs, 12 picks and ran for 430 yards and four scores.

Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas Jr. caught 87 passes for 1,282 yards and 10 TDs.

Defensive Rookie of the Year: Eagles cornerback Cooper DeJean was among the highest-rated players in the slot, holding opponents to 50 receptions. He had five pass breakups and quarterbacks had an 82.2 passer rating against him.

Rams defensive tackle Braden Fiske led the team and all rookies with 8 1/2 sacks. He had 51 pressures, two forced fumbles and recoveries, 10 tackles for loss and 10 quarterback hits.

Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell allowed 40 receptions, had nine pass breakups and quarterbacks had an 87 passer rating against him.

Dolphins edge Chop Robinson had six sacks, 20 pressures and eight tackles for loss.

Rams edge Jared Verse had 4 1/2 sacks but led all rookies in quarterback hits (18), pressures (77) and hurries (56). He also had 11 tackles for loss.

Coach of the Year: Detroit’s Dan Campbell, Minnesota’s Kevin O’Connell, Denver’s Sean Payton, Washington’s Dan Quinn and Kansas City’s Andy Reid are the finalists.

Campbell guided the Lions (15-3) to the NFC’s No. 1 seed. Connell led the Vikings (14-4) to the playoffs despite the departure of Kirk Cousins in free agency and losing rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy to a season-ending knee injury in training camp.

Payton helped the Broncos (10-8) overcome salary-cap woes stemming from the decision to release Russell Wilson and ended a nine-year playoff drought.

Quinn took over a 4-13 team and turned the Commanders into a 12-win playoff team.

Reid had the Chiefs (16-2) back atop the AFC as the No. 1 seed in a quest for a third straight Super Bowl victory.

The Associated Press has announced the finalists for the NFL MVP award, and among them are three young stars who have taken the league by storm this season: Josh Allen, Saquon Barkley, and Lamar Jackson.

Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, has had a breakout season, leading his team to a division title and a playoff berth. Allen has showcased his arm strength and accuracy, as well as his ability to make plays with his legs. His leadership and poise in big moments have been instrumental in the Bills’ success this season.

Saquon Barkley, the dynamic running back for the New York Giants, has been a force to be reckoned with on the field. Barkley’s combination of speed, power, and elusiveness has made him one of the most electrifying players in the league. Despite facing injuries this season, Barkley has still managed to put up impressive numbers and make a significant impact for his team.

Lamar Jackson, the dual-threat quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, has been a revelation this season. Jackson’s ability to make defenders miss in the open field and his pinpoint accuracy as a passer have made him a nightmare for opposing defenses. Jackson has led the Ravens to the best record in the league and has solidified himself as one of the most exciting players in the NFL.

The winner of the AP NFL MVP award will be announced in the coming weeks, but one thing is for certain: all three of these young stars have bright futures ahead of them in the league.

  • Patricia Arquette is Severance’s Comedy MVP

    Summary

    • Patricia Arquette shines in Severance, balancing humor and unease perfectly, showcasing her talent.
    • Arquette’s character, Harmony Cobel, adds depth and mystery to the show, making viewers laugh and squirm.
    • Arquette’s performance as Cobel is both nuanced and entertaining, showcasing her versatility as an actress.

Apple TV+’s Severance is a unique mix of many genres, from dystopian sci-fi to nightmarish horror to workplace satire. And while it’s often unsettling, ominous, and occasionally frightening, it’s just as often surprisingly funny, wringing laughs from its characters’ odd behavior and the inexplicable strangeness of life at Lumon Industries.

The show has plenty of comic ringers, with a cast including improv veterans Zach Cherry and Britt Lower, actors who’ve done their fair share of comedy like John Turturro, and bona fide sitcom star Adam Scott. All these actors and more do plenty to make Severance one of the best cast shows on TV, but there’s one actor who best exemplifies the show’s unique tone: Patricia Arquette. As the inscrutable and manipulative former boss of the severed floor, Harmony Cobel, Arquette has created a character that is by turns deeply unnerving and extremely funny, sometimes at the very same time.

This Severance Storyline Is The Most Heartbreaking

Irving’s emotional transformation in Severance explores loyalty, love, and resilience, making his journey one of the show’s most poignant arcs.

    Arquette’s Double Performance

    Severance_Technology

Arquette has been doing solid work in film and television for nearly four decades, but her career has seen something of a renaissance in recent years, at a time when many female actors struggle to find meaningful roles. In 2014, she won her first Academy Award, taking home the Oscar for best supporting actress for her role as the main character’s mother in Richard Linklater’s Boyhood. In 2019, she took home her second Primetime Emmy Award for the Hulu miniseries The Act, in which she played the mother of convicted murderer Gypsy Rose Blanchard.

She’s always charted a unique path throughout her career, and recently has seemed to enjoy taking on roles that allow her to disappear into a character, whether fictional ones like Cobel, or real-life figures like Escape at Dannemora’s Joyce Mitchell or The Act’s Dee Dee Blanchard. As Cobel, she has to strike a unique balance, being a character that knows more than the other characters or even the audience. Cobel is someone who never reveals her true self, performing as the Innies’ unflappable authority figure at work, and as a seemingly “normal” person out in the real world. Much of what makes Arquette’s performance so funny comes from this disconnect.

Cobel’s persona as Mrs. Selvig, “Outie” Mark’s kooky neighbor and lactation consultant to his sister Devon (Jen Tullock), gives Arquette plenty of opportunity to show off her skill in such a layered role. She gets great mileage out of playing Mrs. Selvig as someone who wants to appear to be a harmless oddball, with her attempts at coming across as genial and caring clearly requiring a lot of effort.

There’s an uncanniness to Arquette’s performance as Cobel playing Mrs. Selvig that feels carefully crafted, and she’s able to use this both to generate tension and laughs. Mrs. Selvig’s joke about a snow storm, “Jack Frost needs a new dandruff shampoo!” ends up being funny more because of Arquette’s odd delivery than the line itself. Other times, she lets the mask slip perhaps a little too far, like during season one’s funeral scene, where she meets the daughter of deceased former severed worker Petey and says to her, “I suppose you were close and everything, hmm?” giving the audience a glimpse of Cobel’s lack of empathy.

    Arquette as Lumon’s Devout Disciple

Patricia Arquette as Harmony Cobel in Severance season one
    Apple

Arquette doesn’t just manage to get laughs from her time in the outie world; she’s equally funny in her role overseeing the severed workers at Lumon, albeit in a very different register. In her interactions with Mark and the other severed employees, Cobel is steely and intimidating, mostly remaining chilly but occasionally letting her anger boil over. Arquette plays this version of Cobel with a barely contained prickliness that betrays her frequent annoyance with her severed charges.

Much of the comedy of Severance comes from a bizarre sense of irony, where nobody acts quite the way the audience would expect them to, and Arquette’s performance is perfectly pitched to take advantage of this. There’s quite a bit of camp in her performance, some highly entertaining scenery chewing that fits with the show’s strange, not quite real-life tone. Her surprise outbursts and seething menace keep both the characters and the viewer off balance, and many of the laughs come almost as a relief from the sense of discomfort that she’s able to create.

Cobel was absent from the Severance season two premiere, and it remains to be seen how she’ll factor into the story going forward, given that she was fired from her position at the end of season one. After her firing, she seemed ready to burn it all down, but rushed into action when she discovered Mark’s innie, so her loyalties are clearly still with Lumon. Arquette’s name is still listed in the cast, and previews clearly show Cobel remains a presence on the show, so it won’t be long before she returns to make viewers squirm and giggle once again.

Patricia Arquette is Severance’s Comedy MVP

Patricia Arquette has been stealing the show in Apple TV’s hit series, Severance. While known for her dramatic roles in movies like Boyhood and TV shows like The Act, Arquette has proven herself to be a comedic force to be reckoned with in Severance.

Her portrayal of the quirky and offbeat character, Mark, has been a highlight of the show. Arquette brings a perfect blend of humor and heart to the role, making Mark both hilarious and endearing. Her comedic timing is spot on, and she effortlessly delivers one-liners that leave viewers in stitches.

Arquette’s performance in Severance has solidified her as the comedy MVP of the show. She brings a unique energy and charisma to the screen that sets her apart from the rest of the cast. Whether she’s delivering a deadpan joke or a heartfelt moment, Arquette shines in every scene she’s in.

Fans of the show can’t get enough of Arquette’s comedic chops, and her character has quickly become a fan favorite. With her standout performance in Severance, it’s clear that Arquette is a versatile talent who can excel in both dramatic and comedic roles.

So, if you haven’t already, be sure to check out Patricia Arquette in Severance and witness her comedic brilliance for yourself. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed.

  • Scouting Bryce James’ MVP performance at the HoopHall Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass – Bryce James took MVP honors in Sierra Canyon’s 60-46 win over Grayson High School on Saturday at the HoopHall Classic after finishing with 16 points, five rebounds, and four steals in just 17 minutes of action.

James, the younger son of LeBron James, came off the bench, and didn’t even check into the game until midway through the second quarter. With the crowd cheering every time he touched the ball, he gradually settled in before making a major impact in the second half. He ultimately deliveed his most notable performance yet in a major national event, less than three weeks after announcing his commitment to Arizona.

While LeBron wasn’t in Springfield himself, he reacted to the performance on social media.

From an evaluator’s perspective, the first thing noticeable about James is the progression of his frame. He’s clearly continued to grow and looked to be at least 6-foot-5, if not close to his listed 6-foot-6. In addition to his increased size, James is also filling out his frame and adding noticeable strength, and yet still has plenty of room to continue adding muscle mass in the coming months and years.

Based on his performance at Saturday’s HoopHall Classic, James has created a very clearly defined niche for his floor game. James approaches the game like a shooter. He provides gravity spacing the floor, can condense his release to get it off quickly when he doesn’t have much separation and is also a threat to be a movement shooter when coming off screens. James has excellent balance on the way up into a very clean release at the top. He also has an equally clean pull-up he can rely on when defenders run him off the arc. While he’s not otherwise a creator off the dribble, there was one flash of potential late in the first half, when he was able to get all the way to the rim.

While Bryce got more aggressive looking for his shot once he got hot in the second, he’s similar to his older brother Bronny James in that he’s generally content to play within the flow of the game and plays a typically unselfish, team-oriented brand of basketball.

Defensively, James was physical and active, both in passing lanes and on the glass, for a Sierra Canyon team that played collectively hard for all 32 minutes.

It was also notable to see the sheer joy his teammates and coaches took in his success. He was met by hugs from virtually everyone on the bench when he checked out for the final time and the announcement of his MVP award was greeted by nothing but celebration.

Long term, James still projects as more of a developmental project for Arizona, who isn’t expected to make significant contributions as a freshman. Simultaneously though, it is very clear that he is continuing to improve and trending in the right direction.

Bryce James, son of NBA legend LeBron James, put on a show at the prestigious HoopHall Classic, solidifying his status as one of the top high school basketball players in the country. The 6’4″ guard showcased his scoring ability, court vision, and leadership skills en route to earning MVP honors at the tournament.

James’ performance was nothing short of spectacular, as he poured in a game-high 30 points to lead his team to a thrilling overtime victory. His ability to create his own shot, finish at the rim, and knock down outside shots was on full display, leaving fans and scouts in awe of his talent.

In addition to his scoring prowess, James also made a significant impact on the defensive end, using his length and athleticism to disrupt passing lanes and block shots. His high basketball IQ and competitive spirit were evident throughout the game, as he made key plays on both ends of the floor to help his team secure the win.

With his MVP performance at the HoopHall Classic, Bryce James has cemented himself as a rising star in the world of high school basketball. As he continues to develop and refine his skills, there’s no doubt that he has the potential to follow in his father’s footsteps and make a name for himself at the next level. Keep an eye on this young phenom, as he is sure to make waves in the basketball world for years to come.

  • Top 100 real NFL MVP candidates for 2024 season

The NFL Most Valuable Player is a quarterback award. It is virtually impossible for a non-QB to be more valuable than the most valuable quarterback. The standard MVP conversation fails to encapsulate incredible performances by non-quarterbacks or tangle with questions regarding each position’s value. That’s why I like to make a ballot that goes beyond five players. Far beyond.

For the third consecutive season, I’ve created my (hypothetical) 100-player MVP ballot. You can view last year’s here.

Before we dive in, here’s how I define value and create this list.

    • This list is purely descriptive based on the 2024 regular season. All that matters is who generated the most value this season.

    • Value represents the difference between a player and an average starter at that player’s position. That means a QB1 will be a virtual lock to be ranked ahead of a TE1, because the difference between the best and average quarterback is much larger than the difference between the best and average tight end. It also caps the QB starters to half the league, which is different than if we measured value over replacement. And frankly, I find it more fun.

    • To create my initial rankings, I ranked players by position and slotted them into an overall list. I leaned on a wide variety of quantitative metrics — win rates, receiver tracking metrics, coverage data, various EPA measures — along with my own analysis. Qualitative considerations such as All-Pro teams and PFF grades were considered, too.

    • I shared my initial list with several colleagues and trusted talent evaluators in NFL front offices to get their expert input. I moved players based on their feedback, particularly if multiple people told me I misjudged a certain player.

Let’s dive into the ballot, starting with the No. 1 question: Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen or another QB?

    1. Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs
    2. Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills
    3. Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens

  • San Jose signs former MVP Josef Martinez to 1-year deal

The San Jose Earthquakes signed former MLS MVP Josef Martinez to a one-year contract on Monday.

The deal with the 31-year-old free agent striker from Venezuela includes a club option for 2026.

Martinez tallied 11 goals in 23 matches with CF Montreal last season, his fifth MLS season with double-digit goals.

He has 116 goals and 20 assists in 184 matches with Atlanta United FC (2017-22), Inter Miami CF (2023) and Montreal.

“Josef Martinez is an accomplished goalscorer in our league and is clearly an excellent addition to our team,” Earthquakes sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena said in a news release. “We are looking forward to his contributions to our attack.”

Martinez led Atlanta to the MLS Cup in 2018, earning MVP and Golden Boot honors that season with 31 goals. The three-time MLS Best XI selection is one of 13 players in league history to score 100 goals.

“I’m happy to be here, to be part of this group and the San Jose Earthquakes,” Martinez said. “I’m very excited for the new year and hope we can make history here.”

Information from Field Level Media was used in this story.

The San Jose Earthquakes have made a major splash in the transfer market by signing former MLS MVP Josef Martinez to a 1-year deal. The Venezuelan striker, who won the MVP award in 2018 after scoring a record-breaking 31 goals in a single season, will be looking to revitalize his career after a series of injuries kept him sidelined for the past two seasons.

Martinez, known for his lethal finishing and incredible goal-scoring ability, will bring a much-needed boost to the Earthquakes’ attacking options. The 28-year-old will be aiming to recapture the form that made him one of the most feared forwards in MLS and help lead San Jose back to playoff contention.

Fans of the Earthquakes will be eagerly awaiting Martinez’s debut and hoping that he can bring his scoring prowess to the team. With his signing, San Jose has shown their ambition and desire to compete at the highest level in MLS. Stay tuned for more updates on Martinez’s impact with the Earthquakes in the upcoming season.

  • Hall of Famer Troy Aikman reveals NFL MVP pick, and it’s not Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson

Hall of Famer Troy Aikman reveals NFL MVP pick, and it’s not Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson

In some people’s eyes, the 2024 NFL league MVP award is a two-man race between quarterbacks Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman feels that another quarterback is more deserving of the award, though.

Aikman offered his take on the highly competitive MVP race during the Week 18 “Monday Night Football” showdown between the Lions and 49ers. The three-time Super Bowl championship quarterback didn’t hesitate while volunteering his pick for MVP.

“No disrespect to anyone and the year they’ve had, but if I had a vote, it would go to Joe Burrow,” said Aikman, who recently revealed that Burrow might already be his “favorite player of all-time.”

Aikman’s pick of Burrow is surprising because of the Bengals‘ record and current playoff predicament. Cincinnati is 8-8 and needs to beat the Steelers and have the Broncos and Dolphins lose their respective Week 18 games in order to make the playoffs. Conversely, Allen’s Bills (who handed the Chiefs their only loss so far) have clinched the AFC’s No. 2 for the playoffs, and Jackson’s Ravens are one win away from capturing their second consecutive AFC North division crown.

While it is an individual award, voters tend to give the league MVP award to a player who is on a Super Bowl contending team. Only twice in league history has the MVP award been given to a player who was on a non-playoff team: Colts quarterback Johnny Unitas in 1967 and Bills running back O.J. Simpson in 1973. The Colts were 11-2-1 that year (only division champs made the playoffs back then). Simpson became the first player to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season during his MVP campaign.

His team’s record may be underwhelming, but Burrow’s season has been anything but. He’s currently on pace to lead the NFL in both passing yards and touchdown passes. Burrow became the 11th player in league history to throw at least 40 touchdown passes in a season during Cincinnati’s Week 17 win over Denver.

Allen and Jackson have already enjoyed record-setting seasons. Earlier this year, Allen became the first player in NFL history to have multiple seasons with at least 25 touchdown passes and 12 touchdown runs. Jackson surpassed Michael Vick as the most prolific rushing quarterback in NFL history during Baltimore’s Week 17 win over the Texans.

An MVP “dark horse” is Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, who this past Sunday became the ninth running back in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season. Barkley will increase his MVP odds if he can break Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record in Week 18. Barkley needs 101 yards to break Dickerson’s record, which has stood since 1984.

Hall of Famer Troy Aikman, former quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, has revealed his pick for NFL MVP this season – and it’s not who you might expect. Despite the impressive performances of quarterbacks like Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, Aikman believes that another player deserves the title of MVP.

Aikman’s pick for NFL MVP is none other than Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers has had a stellar season, leading the Packers to a 13-3 record and clinching the top seed in the NFC. He has thrown for over 4,000 yards, with 48 touchdown passes and only 5 interceptions.

While Allen and Jackson have certainly had impressive seasons, Aikman believes that Rodgers’ consistency and leadership on the field have set him apart from the rest of the pack. As a Hall of Famer himself, Aikman knows a thing or two about what it takes to be the best in the game, and he believes that Rodgers is deserving of the MVP title this season.

It will be interesting to see if Aikman’s prediction holds true when the NFL announces the MVP winner later this year. In the meantime, fans can continue to enjoy watching Rodgers and the Packers as they make their playoff run towards the Super Bowl.

  • T.J. Watt voted by teammates as Steelers MVP for fifth time, most in franchise history

T.J. Watt voted by teammates as Steelers MVP for fifth time, most in franchise history

Every year for more than half a century, the Steelers have awarded a team MVP, voted upon by all the players on the team. And no player in franchise history has received that award as many times as T.J. Watt.

Watt has been announced as the 2024 winner of the Steelers MVP award. He also won it in 2023, 2021, 2020 and 2019.

The Steelers have had a lot of Hall of Famers in their franchise history, but none of them won the team MVP four times: Joe Greene, Franco Harris, Mel Blount, Donnie Shell each won it once, Terry Bradshaw, John Stallworth and Jack Lambert each won it twice, and Rod Woodson and Jerome Bettis each won it three times. The only other Steeler to win it four times before Watt was Antonio Brown. The Steelers have been choosing a team MVP for 56 years.

It’s awesome,” said Watt. “It’s a great honor that I don’t take lightly. It matters most that the guys that see what I do each and every day, and to have it come from them means a lot to me.”

For Watt to stand apart on a franchise with as rich a history as the Steelers represents an enormous achievement, and a big part of a Hall of Fame résumé.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced that T.J. Watt has been voted by his teammates as the team’s MVP for the fifth time, setting a new franchise record. Watt, who has been a dominant force on defense for the Steelers, has consistently shown his value to the team and his teammates have recognized his contributions once again.

Watt, who was also named the team’s MVP in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, has solidified himself as one of the top defensive players in the league. His relentless pass-rushing ability, strong run defense, and overall impact on the field have made him a crucial piece of the Steelers’ defense.

With this latest MVP award, Watt now holds the record for the most MVP honors in Steelers history, surpassing previous record holders such as Troy Polamalu and Hines Ward. His dedication to the game, work ethic, and leadership have endeared him to his teammates and fans alike.

As the Steelers head into the playoffs, having Watt at the top of his game will be crucial for their success. His ability to disrupt opposing offenses and make game-changing plays will be key as the team looks to make a deep postseason run.

Congratulations to T.J. Watt on this impressive achievement and here’s to many more MVP honors in the future. Steeler Nation is lucky to have such a talented and dedicated player leading their defense.
