  • Najee Harris cuts Bengals lead to 10-7

Najee Harris cuts Bengals lead to 10-7

It looked like the Bengals were going to run away with Saturday night’s game against the Steelers for most of the first quarter, but the Steelers have gotten off the mat.

After a Patrick Queen sack forced the Bengals to kick a field goal on their second possession, Russell Wilson kept a Steelers drive alive by hitting wide receiver Mike Williams for a 25-yard gain on third down. That was the final play of the opening quarter and the Steelers kept driving in the second quarter until a one-yard Najee Harris touchdown run made it 10-7 Bengals with 9:54 to play in the first half.

Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt was flagged for a pair of pass interference penalties on third downs, including one on tight end Darnell Washington in the end zone on the play before the Harris touchdown.

Queen’s sack led to a fumble, but the Bengals were able to recover it. It came against right tackle Cody Ford, who is playing in place of Amarius Mims. Mims is active, but is wearing a heavy cast or club on his injured hand. Ford hurt his ankle in the first quarter, so his status will be something to watch the rest of the way.

In a thrilling turn of events, Najee Harris cuts Bengals lead to 10-7! The Pittsburgh Steelers running back showed off his explosive speed and agility as he broke free for a spectacular touchdown run, narrowing the gap against their AFC North rivals. Fans erupted in cheers as Harris showcased his playmaking abilities and determination to keep his team in the game. With the momentum on their side, the Steelers are ready to mount a comeback and take control of the game. Stay tuned for more exciting action as these two fierce rivals battle it out on the gridiron! #Steelers #Bengals #NFL #NajeeHarris #Touchdown

  • Ben Roethlisberger Tells Pittsburgh Steelers ‘Low Ball’ Najee Harris

Ben Roethlisberger Tells Pittsburgh Steelers ‘Low Ball’ Najee Harris

Najee Harris, with 1,007 yards and five touchdowns under his belt so far this year, is poised to hit the free agent market as one of the top running backs available in the upcoming offseason.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger doesn’t believe the team’s front office should offer a blank check in hopes of retaining Harris, however, instead stating that he’d try and re-sign him at a discount.

“There’s gonna be a lot of questions up there for [Najee Harris], what they want to do there,” Roethlisberger said on his Footbahlin podcast. “If I’m a GM and I have the team first, I’m trying to low-ball him. See what’s the least amount of money I can offer to keep him here.”

Roethlisberger isn’t pushing a ground-breaking negotiating concept, as organizations are always looking for the best value when it comes to putting together their rosters, but it’s interesting nonetheless that he’d make those comments about a former teammate.

A first-round pick out of Alabama in 2021, Harris ranks fifth in the NFL with 4,276 rushing yards while tying for the second-most attempts (1,085) at the position since his rookie campaign.

The 26-year-old has profiled as a prototypical workhorse back with the Steelers and crossed over the 1,000-yard plateau in each of his four seasons in the league, but the team seemingly signaled that it was ready to part ways with Harris upon declining his fifth-year option.

Though he’s remained productive from a pure numbers perspective, his efficiency does leave something to be desired. On the flip side, however, there aren’t any clear-cut options out there that would represent an upgrade over Harris.

Players such as Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs have all thrived this season after leaving their original teams and cashing in on the open market. Perhaps Harris could join that group as the league continues to do a 180 and prioritizes paying running backs once again, which in theory could entice the Steelers to pony up in order to hang onto him.

With Jaylen Warren set to reach restricted free agency, Pittsburgh is in danger of losing both members of its backfield tandem in 2025.

Roethlisberger also acknowledged that fact, stating that his preference would be for Harris to return to the Steelers and keep things as they currently are.

“I think it’s important to have him here,” Roethlisberger said. “I think he’s a guy that’s developing into a good leader on this team. I think he’s a guy that’s a good one-two punch with [Jaylen] Warren. So I think that’s important, to try to keep him around.”

In a recent interview, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger made a surprising revelation about his team’s negotiations with rookie running back Najee Harris. According to Roethlisberger, the Steelers have been trying to “low ball” Harris in contract talks, much to the dismay of the veteran QB.

Roethlisberger expressed his frustration with the team’s approach, stating that Harris is a valuable asset to the Steelers and deserves to be compensated accordingly. The two-time Super Bowl champion went on to praise Harris’s work ethic and talent, emphasizing the importance of keeping him happy and motivated.

Fans of the Steelers have been quick to voice their support for Harris, urging the team to offer him a fair contract that reflects his contributions on and off the field. With training camp just around the corner, the pressure is on for the front office to reach a resolution with their star rookie before the start of the season.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as negotiations between Najee Harris and the Pittsburgh Steelers continue.

  • Ben Roethlisberger On Najee Harris’s Future: ‘I’m Trying To Low-Ball Him’ If I’m A GM

Ben Roethlisberger On Najee Harris’s Future: ‘I’m Trying To Low-Ball Him’ If I’m A GM

Steelers RB Najee Harris could be playing his final home game in Pittsburgh this weekend. Earning a playoff home game at this point is very unlikely, and his contract expires in the new league year. Will the Steelers re-sign him? Do they even have interest in doing so, and at what price?

Even Harris’ former teammate, Ben Roethlisberger, puts his GM had on when discussing the matter. NFL teams have taken a very pragmatic approach when it comes to paying nearly all running backs lately. And truth be told, Najee Harris is not Saquon Barkley or Derrick Henry.

“There’s gonna be a lot of questions up there for [Najee Harris], what they want to do there”, Roethlisberger said on his Footbahlin podcast earlier this week. “If I’m a GM and I have the team first, I’m trying to low-ball him. See what’s the least amount of money I can offer to keep him here”.

During the 2024 offseason, the Steelers declined to exercise the fifth-year option on Harris’ rookie contract. At the time, many took that as a clear indication of their plans—which would be to let him walk in free agency. The fifth-year option would have been relatively affordable, but they reportedly wanted to see him in Arthur Smith’s offense.

With one game left to play, Harris has delivered a pedestrian, workmanlike performance. He has 1,007 rushing yards on 251 attempts and five rushing touchdowns, the lowest marks of his career. While he has hit at least 4.0 yards per carry for the second year in a row, he is still below that for his career. The Steelers did use him in passing situations a bit more, Harris catching 32 for 263 yards. His 1,270 yards from scrimmage are the second-most in his career, but his five total touchdowns are his fewest.

While Roethlisberger advocated for low-balling Najee Harris, he still wants the Steelers to keep him. “I think it’s important to have him here”, he said. “I think he’s a guy that’s developing into a good leader on this team. I think that he’s a guy that’s a good one-two punch with [Jaylen] Warren. So I think that’s important, to try to keep him around”.

He also pointed out the bowling ball in the room, which is Jaylen Warren. The third-year back has been out-snapping Harris in recent weeks, even seeing more touches in the last two games. Of Warren, Roethlisberger said, “This is why teams aren’t paying running backs a lot of money. Because you can get guys that are later-round guys that play, and you need a two-headed monster”.

Since Week 7, roughly around when he got healthy, Warren has rushed for 429 yards on 94 attempts with one touchdown. He has 30 receptions for 271 yards, though he has two fumbles as well. In the same span, Najee Harris has 631 yards on 155 attempts with four touchdowns. He has 18 receptions for 128 yards, and a fumble that somehow wasn’t charged to him.

As the Pittsburgh Steelers prepare for the upcoming NFL draft, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had some interesting comments about highly touted running back prospect Najee Harris. In an interview with reporters, Roethlisberger jokingly said, “I’m trying to low-ball him if I’m a GM.”

Roethlisberger’s comments were made in jest, but they highlight the respect and admiration he has for Harris as a player. The two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback knows the impact a dynamic running back can have on an offense, and it’s clear he sees Harris as a potential game-changer at the next level.

Harris, who played his college football at Alabama, is widely regarded as one of the top running back prospects in this year’s draft class. With his combination of size, speed, and versatility, he has the potential to make an immediate impact in the NFL.

While Roethlisberger may have been joking about low-balling Harris, there’s no doubt that the Steelers would love to add a talent like him to their roster. With the team looking to bounce back from a disappointing season, a player of Harris’s caliber could be just what they need to get back on track.

As the draft approaches, all eyes will be on where Harris lands and how he performs in the NFL. And if Roethlisberger’s comments are any indication, he’ll be rooting for the talented running back to succeed wherever he ends up.
