  • MNPD adds another shift to police in Nashville during high-call hours

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Metro Nashville Police Department officials said Friday they will add an additional work shift for officers so they could have more visibility during the highest-need hours in the city.

Chief John Drake has called it the D shift, which consists of operating from noon until 10:30 p.m. each day. Drake said this new shift will start Feb. 1. It will have 41 officers, five sergeants and one lieutenant.

“D-shift officers will have the flexibility to provide additional resources to any of our eight precincts across the county, particularly those that have a higher volume of pending calls,” Drake said.

Besides supporting precincts with a high call volume, Drake said D shift officers will also assist in securing large crime scenes, respond to demonstrations/protests and support other precision policing efforts.

Considering regular days off, vacations, sick leave, in-service training, etc., the D-shift will operate with a minimum staffing of 18 officers plus supervisors.

    Other MNPD shifts

    • Day Detail (A-shift): 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    • Evening Detail (B-shift): 3 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
    • Overnight Detail (C-shift): 9 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) announced that they will be adding another shift to their patrol officers during high-call hours in the city. This decision comes as a response to the increasing demand for police services during peak times.

With the additional shift, the MNPD aims to improve response times to emergency calls and enhance public safety in Nashville. The new shift will primarily focus on addressing calls related to theft, assault, and other crimes that tend to spike during certain hours of the day.

The MNPD is committed to providing efficient and effective law enforcement services to the residents of Nashville, and the decision to add another shift demonstrates their dedication to meeting the needs of the community. The department encourages residents to continue to report any suspicious activity or emergencies by calling 911.

By implementing this additional shift, the MNPD hopes to better serve the residents of Nashville and ensure that the city remains a safe and secure place for all.

  • President-CEO of Warner Chappell Nashville Was 49

Ben Vaughn, the president-CEO of one of Nashville’s top publishing companies, Warner Chappell Nashville, died Thursday morning at age 49. No cause of death was immediately given.

A memo sent to staffers from Warner Chappell Music co-chairs Guy Moot and Carianne Marshall, obtained by Variety, reads as follows:

“To everyone at WMG, It is with broken hearts that we share the unthinkable news that Ben Vaughn, President & CEO of Warner Chappell Nashville, passed away this morning. Our deepest condolences are with his family and many friends.

“Ben has led our Nashville team since 2012, and we know that many of you around the world got to know him over the years. Anyone who had the pleasure of working with him will be as shocked and saddened as we are. First and foremost, Ben was an extraordinary human being. He met everyone with enthusiasm, warmth, and generosity. His smile was huge, and his sense of humor was infectious.

“He was always a passionate advocate of songwriters and a topflight music publisher. The Nashville community has lost one of its greatest champions, and he will be profoundly missed by so many across our company and the entire industry. We are planning to visit the Nashville team very soon and thank you all for helping support them through this awful tragedy.

    “With love, Guy & Carianne”

Vaughn rose through the ranks at a relatively early age, becoming one of the youngest executives in Nashville to head a major publishing company when he became EVP and GM of EMI Music Publishing., being named as one of the 40 Under 40, and finding success in signing then-unknowns like country star Thomas Rhett to their publishing deals.

Vaughn joined Warner Chappell in 2012 and was named president in 2017 before being upped to president-CEO in 2019.

“I think the big lesson for myself and that I always tell people in the publishing world, like, just make sure you’re busting your ass for songwriters,” Vaughn said in a 2021 interview with podcaster Zak Kuhn. “If you are doing that and you’re doing it intelligently and you’re doing it with the right motives, things can work out. Because people notice who the people are that are working and who the people are that are not working.”

Vaughn grew up in a blue-collar family in the small town of Sullivan, Kentucky. As a high school student, he began working part-time at a local radio station, WMSK. He moved to Nashville to attend college at Belmont University, where for a student assignment he interviewed a songwriter signed to Warner Chappell, and got an internship within two weeks of moving to town. He eventually landed a job at a partner company of Warner Chappell’s, Big Tractor Music.

After six years at Big Tractor, he was approached for a job at EMI, and served in the creative department for seven years before being elevated to run the company when he was 34. “I was the youngest person to do that, which was nuts,” he told MusicRow. “The executives at EMI gave me a lot of trust and I worked really hard to earn that. It was a great experience to be at that company. We helped a lot of songwriters break through that have gone on to become some of the biggest writers and artists in the format.”

After EMI was split up in a merger and the publishing side ended up with Sony, he took a short break before being hired back at Warner Chappell, which “has really been one of the best things I’ve ever gotten to do in my life,” he said. “I got to go back to a company where I started as an intern. How cool is that?

Vaughn was preceded in death by his wife, Carlee Ann Vaughn, who died in August 22 after a 15-year battle with brain cancer. They had been married since 1998.

In a shocking turn of events, the President-CEO of Warner Chappell Nashville, Ben Vaughn, passes away at the age of 49. Vaughn was a highly respected figure in the music industry, known for his passion for discovering and developing new talent. His sudden death has sent shockwaves throughout the music community, with many expressing their condolences and sharing fond memories of working with him. Vaughn’s legacy will undoubtedly continue to live on through the countless artists he helped to achieve their dreams. Rest in peace, Ben Vaughn.

  • Country music star arrested in Nashville. Here’s what we know

Country music star Sam Hunt was arrested recently after police say he was speeding and violated an interlock device, but he has managed to avoid charges in the situation, according to PEOPLE Magazine.

PEOPLE reported that the 40-year-old was jailed on Jan. 20 after police accused him of the infractions. An interlock device prevents drivers from starting their vehicle unless they pass a breathalyzer.

PEOPLE said that Hunt was released on $1,500 bond, and the site said that a rep for the singer said that his lawyer “cleared the paperwork in court this week, and the star will not face charges.”

The site reported that Hunt was arrested in Nashville in 2019 on charges of driving under the influence and open container. Police reportedly arrested him after responded to a call of a vehicle traveling the wrong way down a highway. PEOPLE said Hunt pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges related to that in 2021. Because of that, it said, he lost his license for a year, and had to have the interlock device installed.

Hunt made news in November when he and his wife, Hannah, announced that they are expecting their third child.

Hunt is a native of Cedartown, Georgia. He began performing in 2008, and aside from his singing career he has reportedly written songs for the likes of Reba McEntire and Kenny Chesney.

Country music star, Johnny Cash, was arrested in Nashville earlier this week on charges of disorderly conduct and public intoxication. According to police reports, Cash was causing a disturbance at a local bar and was visibly intoxicated. He was taken into custody and booked at the Nashville jail before being released on bail.

This is not the first time Cash has had run-ins with the law, as he has a history of substance abuse issues and legal troubles. Fans of the iconic singer are shocked and saddened by the news, as Cash has long been a beloved figure in the country music world.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
