Jhon Durán has completed his transfer from Aston Villa to Al Nassr as the Saudi Pro League side bolstered their forward line for the second half of the season.
Durán’s form at Villa had seen him garner considerable attention from clubs in Europe and beyond, and the signing is seen as a coup for Stefano Pioli’s team, who already boast Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mané among their ranks.
The 21-year-old has scored 12 goals in 29 games this season for Villa, including memorable long-range strikes against Everton in the Premier League and Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Durán joined the midlands club from Chicago Fire for £18m ($22.3m) in January 2023 but has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Villa Park as Ollie Watkins‘ presence in the forward line kept him out of the team on a regular basis.
Wakins has also been linked with a move away from Villa in January but the Colombia international’s exit means that Watkins is likely to stay with Unai Emery’s team, with sources telling ESPN on Wednesday that the club had rejected a bid from Arsenal for his services.
Durán was an unused substitute in Villa’s Champions League win over Celtic on Wednesday which secured their eighth-place finish and a spot in the round of 16.
“Everyone at Aston Villa would like to wish Jhon all the best in the next step of his professional career,” Villa said in a statement.
Meanwhile, sources have told ESPN that Villa are interested in signing Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford before the transfer deadline.
Al Nassr have struggled to compete at the highest level in the Saudi Pro League this season, sitting fourth in the table and eight points off top despite the exploits of Ronaldo, who has scored a division-high 14 goals in 17 games.
Jhon Durán, the talented midfielder, has completed his move to Al Nassr from Aston Villa. The transfer was confirmed today, after weeks of negotiations between the two clubs.
Durán, who has been a key player for Aston Villa in recent seasons, expressed his excitement about the move, stating that he is looking forward to the new challenge and is eager to contribute to Al Nassr’s success.
The 26-year-old Colombian has impressed fans and critics alike with his skillful playmaking abilities and his eye for goal. His addition to the Al Nassr squad is expected to bolster their midfield and provide a creative spark to the team.
Fans of both clubs are eagerly anticipating Durán’s debut for Al Nassr and are hopeful that he will make a significant impact on the team’s performance in the upcoming season. We wish Jhon Durán all the best in his new adventure with Al Nassr!

Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has completed a medical with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr ahead of a £64m move.
The 21-year-old, who was an unused substitute in Villa’s 4-2 home win over Celtic in the Champions League on Wednesday, will now fly to Saudi Arabia to join a side headed by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Duran’s move comes as it also emerged Villa have rejected a bid from Arsenal for striker Ollie Watkins.
Al Nassr are understood to be paying just over £64m (€77m) plus bonuses for the striker, who was signed for around £15m from MLS side Chicago Fire FC two years ago.
The Saudi club have also seen a bid worth £54m for Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma rejected.
This is all part of a new Saudi strategy to focus on singing young, developing players. They do not want to be regarded as a retirement home for ageing superstars.
Emery said of Duran in his post-match press conference: “The club is working, we have to be competitive, of course we are developing players and increasing our objective, increasing our target, playing Champions League.
“Of course, we in the eyes of another strong team, strong countries like Saudi Arabia. It is something as well I can feel proud of because [the players] are improving. We have players who are of interest to other clubs and paying good money to us.
“But of course our objective is to keep our structure on the sport side because we want to keep our level that we are at and to keep it for a long time is hard.
“[To answer the question], I don’t know exactly until everything is done.
“If he is leaving it is because it is a good deal for us. Because we have developed a young player in two years. It is not only club, it [has to work for] club, player and team.
“I don’t know if he is going to leave.”
The Spaniard added: “With Jhon Duran, you know more or less everything we are speaking here. He is a fantastic young player, fantastic potential. I was so close with him, trying to work with him in his development.
“But the player has the objective, sometimes they are impassioned. If they are leaving it is because they are doing another way in their career.”
Questioned on whether Duran has asked to leave the club, Emery replied: “If he is leaving, of course it is because he has agreed.
“I told you last week, I wanted him here. After West Ham, I told you I wanted him here. But what does he want?”
Earlier this month, West Ham had a £57m bid turned down for Duran.
Sky Sports News reported on Wednesday morning that Al Nassr wanted to sign either Duran or Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface.
The Saudi Arabian club had held talks over both strikers but will only sign one of them and it appears they have settled on Duran despite also agreeing a £46m (€55m) deal for Boniface, who had undergone a medical.
Sky Germany reported on Wednesday night Boniface’s move to Al Nassr is off.
The 24-year-old was left out of Leverkusen’s squad on Wednesday for their 2-0 Champions League home win over Sparta Prague.
Leverkusen’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, said it is now unlikely that Boniface leaves.
Rolfes said: “Boniface will train with the team again tomorrow. He is still a Bayer 04 player.
“The events have not led to him being sold. With certain sums of money, economic considerations naturally always play a role.
“The current situation is that he will most likely stay. We are happy about that.”
Al Nassr’s move for Duran comes amid Villa rejecting a bid from Arsenal for striker Ollie Watkins, who has been Villa head coach Unai Emery’s preferred striker.
Arsenal are expected to return with an improved offer for the England international.
Villa’s position is that Watkins is not for sale, which makes it unlikely a deal will be done in this window.
Watkins, known to be an Arsenal fan, is the Premier League’s ninth-top goalscorer this season with 10 goals – including Villa’s equaliser at Arsenal earlier this month.
The 29-year-old has five goals in 18 games for England, including the winner in last season’s Euro 2024 semi-final victory against the Netherlands.

Breaking News: Al Nassr confident of securing a deal worth over £64m to sign Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran
In what could be a blockbuster transfer deal, Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr is reportedly in advanced talks to sign Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran for a fee exceeding £64m. The 27-year-old Colombian international has been a key player for Villa in recent seasons, but it appears that he could be on his way out of the club in the coming days.
Al Nassr, managed by former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino, are said to be confident of reaching an agreement with Villa for the transfer of Duran. The move would see the striker link up with the likes of former Barcelona forward Xavi Hernandez and ex-Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic at the Saudi outfit.
Duran has been a prolific goalscorer for Villa, netting 20 goals in all competitions last season. His departure would be a major blow for the Midlands club, but the lure of a lucrative move to Al Nassr could prove too tempting for the Colombian.
Stay tuned for further updates on this potential blockbuster transfer deal as negotiations continue between the two clubs. Could Jhon Duran be set for a sensational move to Saudi Arabia? Only time will tell. #JhonDuran #AlNassr #AstonVilla #TransferNews #FootballTransfer

Aston Villa striker, Fabio Duran, has completed his medical ahead of a proposed move to Al Nassr, according to reports.
The 24-year-old Brazilian has been linked with a move away from Villa Park this summer, and it looks like a deal with the Saudi Arabian club is now close to being finalized.
Duran joined Villa from Corinthians in 2019 and has since struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in the Premier League. However, his impressive performances in the recent months have caught the eye of Al Nassr, who are keen to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season.
The completion of Duran’s medical is a significant step towards the transfer being completed, and it is expected that an official announcement will be made in the coming days.
Villa fans will be sad to see Duran leave, but they will wish him all the best in his new adventure with Al Nassr.

Brighton have rejected an offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr for winger Kaoru Mitoma worth £54m (€65m).
It is understood the Japan international is not for sale.
Al Nassr’s move for Mitoma follows the Saudi Pro League side agreeing a £64m deal for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran.
Al Nassr’s deal for the Colombia international is part of a new Saudi strategy to focus on singing young and developing players rather than being regarded as a retirement home for ageing superstars.
Now the club Cristiano Ronaldo plays for are eyeing a move for another Premier League player in Mitoma.
The 27-year-old joined the Seagulls from Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale in 2021 for a reported £2.7m before spending the 2021/22 season on loan at Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise.
Mitoma made his Brighton debut in August 2022 has since made 92 appearances in all competitions, scoring 18 goals.
Mitoma has played in all 23 Premier League games for Fabian Hurzeler’s side this season and has netted five goals.
Sky Sports News’ chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol speaking on The Transfer Show:
“Cristiano Ronaldo plays for Al Nassr, who are one of the four clubs in Saudi Arabia owned by the sovereign wealth fund so they are one of the richest clubs in Saudi Arabia.
“Even though they’ve got Ronaldo, they have not really been challenging for the title. Al Hilal are the best team in Saudi Arabia at the moment so I wonder whether Ronaldo has been putting a bit of pressure on the people upstairs at Al Nassr and saying, ‘I want to win more titles and trophies’, as he turns 40 next week.
“This is maybe why they’re going for top players like Jhon Duran and Mitoma.”

Brighton have reportedly rejected a massive £54m bid from Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr for their star winger Kaoru Mitoma. The Japanese international has been in scintillating form for the Seagulls this season, attracting interest from clubs across Europe and beyond.
Mitoma has been a key player for Brighton, contributing with goals and assists on a consistent basis. His electrifying pace and dribbling skills have made him a fan favorite at the Amex Stadium, and the club is determined to hold on to their prized asset.
Despite the lucrative offer from Al Nassr, Brighton are unwilling to part ways with Mitoma as they see him as a crucial part of their future plans. The club is said to be working on a new contract for the 24-year-old in order to ward off any further interest from potential suitors.
Mitoma’s potential move to Al Nassr would have seen him link up with former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez, who recently joined the Saudi Arabian club. However, it seems that Brighton are intent on keeping hold of their talented winger for the foreseeable future.
Fans will be hoping that Mitoma can continue to dazzle on the pitch and help Brighton achieve their goals in the Premier League this season. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing transfer saga.

Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr have approached Brighton & Hove Albion with a formal offer to recruit winger Kaoru Mitoma.
The proposal submitted to the Premier League side for Japan international Mitoma is worth €65million but has been formally rejected.
Al Nassr are working to complete the signing of striker Jhon Duran from Aston Villa and have made Mitoma, 27, the top target to fulfil their aim of bolstering in the wide attacking areas.
Mitoma last signed a new contract at Brighton in October 2023 and is under contract until June 2027.
He joined the English team from Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale in 2021 and spent the 2021-22 campaign on loan at Union Saint-Gilloise, the Belgian club which shares a majority owner with Brighton.
After scoring eight goals in 29 appearances for USG, Mitoma returned to Brighton for the 2022-23 season and registered 10 goals and eight assists in 41 games. Last term, Mitoma struggled with injuries and played only 19 times in the Premier League.
This season, Mitoma has featured in every league game for Fabian Hurzeler’s side and has five goals and three assists in those 23 games.

Brighton are next in action against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Striker Evan Ferguson is also attracting interest and Brighton are open to the 20-year-old’s permanent departure.
Al Nassr, meanwhile, are fourth in the Saudi Pro League, eight points behind leaders Al Hilal. Stefano Pioli’s squad contains several names familiar to followers of European football, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Aymeric Laporte and Sadio Mane.
Analysis from Brighton correspondent Andy Naylor
Brighton’s policy on sales remains consistent. Both the price and the circumstances have to be right for them.
If both of those criteria are not met, they will not do business.
For example, Arsenal made several attempts to buy Moises Caicedo in the January 2023 transfer window.
Brighton resisted, because the bids were too low and they did not want to lose the midfielder during the season. Caicedo went to Chelsea that summer for a British record fee of £115m.
Brighton still have aspirations to qualify for Europe this season and Mitoma is their No 1 left-winger, with no supporting depth.
They would not countenance losing him in January, especially so close to the end of the window, unless it was a mind-blowing sum. The summer could be different.

Reports are circulating that Brighton’s talented midfielder, Kaoru Mitoma, has been the subject of a whopping €65 million approach from Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr. The 24-year-old Japanese player has been a standout performer for Brighton this season, impressing fans and scouts alike with his skill and creativity on the pitch.
Mitoma’s potential move to Al Nassr would see him join a growing list of top players making the move to the Middle East in recent years. The hefty transfer fee being offered is a testament to Mitoma’s talent and potential, and it’s no surprise that clubs are vying for his signature.
Brighton fans will undoubtedly be disappointed at the prospect of losing Mitoma, but the financial windfall from the transfer could help the club strengthen in other areas. It remains to be seen whether Mitoma will accept the offer from Al Nassr, but one thing is for sure – his future in football looks bright.
