  • Snow this weekend in Boston, how much will Massachusetts, New Hampshire get? – NBC Boston

There’s a lot going on as we round the corner to midwinter.

First up, is the warmup today (a bit) and Saturday (a bit more). A superb winter day is in store as we leap past freezing and head for the mid-30s.

    Rain expected Saturday

Clouds will have the upper hand all weekend, but we expect the showers to hold off until Saturday afternoon.

    Mild temperatures are expected.

Lots of melting and thawing with highs in the mid-40s.

How much snow will we get Sunday into Monday?

Sunday is the day we get jerked back to reality. Cold air will move in during the afternoon as a storm system winds up far offshore. Snow will sweep in from Connecticut and New York toward evening.

As subfreezing air is drawn in, the stage is set for accumulation overnight and into Monday morning.

Right now, it appears that the storm is moving quickly enough to keep amounts in the reasonable range of 3-5”.

But if the storm tracks a bit closer, we could see higher amounts with a bit more mixing on Cape Cod. It’s not a huge discrepancy — especially on a holiday weekend — but it will be an inconvenience and leave behind slippery travel/cleanup into Monday morning.

Blast of arctic air next week

What follows will certainly be the coldest air of this season AND last. We haven’t seen the likes of this cold in almost two years!

The wind won’t be howling in this cold snap, but just a moderate breeze will be enough to put us in “well below zero” territory in the wind chill department.

Thankfully, the cold won’t be around for long. Temps moderate late next week, as we watch the storm track carefully. We count no less than three close brushes with storms into the following week!

    Have a good weekend.

Get ready for a winter wonderland this weekend, as snow is expected to blanket Massachusetts and New Hampshire. According to NBC Boston, both states could see significant snowfall amounts.

In Massachusetts, areas like Boston, Worcester, and Springfield could see anywhere from 4-8 inches of snow. The coastal regions may see slightly less accumulation due to milder temperatures.

In New Hampshire, cities like Manchester, Concord, and Portsmouth could see similar snowfall totals, with some areas potentially receiving up to 10 inches of snow.

So make sure to stock up on hot cocoa and cozy up by the fire, as this weekend’s snowstorm is sure to bring a picturesque scene to the Northeast. Stay tuned to NBC Boston for the latest updates on this winter weather event.

  • 20 displaced after fire spreads from vacant building to nearby homes in Hartford – NBC Connecticut

Twenty people are displaced after a fire that started in a vacant building in Hartford spread to two nearby buildings, according to the fire department. Officials said the vacant building partially collapsed.

Firefighters responded to Ward Street, in the Frog Hollow section of the city, at 11:46 p.m. Thursday and found all three floors of a vacant brick building on fire.

The fire had also spread to two other buildings, including a another three-story multi-family building, according to the fire department.

    Hartford Fire Department

All the residents made it out safely.

Several fire companies responded to assist and put out the fire.

The vacant building partially collapsed, one nearby building sustained significant damage and the other building had minimal damage, according to the fire department.

One resident slipped and fell away from the scene of the fire, according to the fire department.

There are no reports of firefighters being injured.

Families from one of the buildings were allowed back into their homes and the Special Services Unit worked with the American Red Cross to help the 18 adults and two children who are displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

In a recent unfortunate incident in Hartford, a fire that started in a vacant building quickly spread to nearby homes, displacing 20 individuals. The fire, which started in the early hours of the morning, caused extensive damage to the surrounding properties and left the residents without a place to stay.

The Hartford Fire Department responded quickly to the scene and worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and ensure the safety of those affected. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries, but the emotional toll of losing one’s home and belongings is undoubtedly immense.

As the community comes together to support those impacted by this devastating fire, it serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety and the need for vigilance in preventing such tragedies. Our thoughts are with the displaced individuals as they navigate this difficult time and work towards rebuilding their lives.

  • Are schools closed? – NBC Chicago

Inauguration Day for 2025, which marks the day President-elect Donald Trump is sworn into office, is coming up on Monday. Jan. 20. In Washington D.C., the day, with events in addition to the swearing-in ceremony, which takes place at 11 a.m. CT.

Monday will also see many businesses and schools closed across the country, but not because the new president will be sworn in.

This year, that Inauguration Day also falls on the federal holiday of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The last time that occurred was in January 1997, when President Bill Clinton’s second inauguration also occurred on MLK Day.

So what exactly is closed on Monday, Jan. 20, what’s open, and what happens on Inauguration Day? Here’s a breakdown.

What’s closed on Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

    Schools

According to the Illinois State Board of Education, Martin Luther Kind Jr. Day isn’t considered a “legal school holiday.” However, the board does indicate that districts can choose to celebrate it. In those cases, the district considers it a “Not in Attendance” day, which means “no students are engaged in learning as determined by the local school board.

Chicago Public Schools on Monday, Jan. 20 are closed, according to CPS’ 2024-25 calendar. According to CPS’ calendar Tuesday, Jan. 21 will also see closures as it is listed as a “school improvement day,” with a “non-attendance day for students.”

For students in the Illinois districts that do have school on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a recent law may apply, allowing them an excused absence in exchange for engaging in a civic activity.

House Bill 5488, which took effect Jan. 1, 2023, states that any public middle or high school student will be permitted at least one “day-long excused absence from school to engage in a civic event.”

According to the bill’s text, a “civic event” is defined by an “event sponsored by a non-profit organization or government entity that is open to the public,” and can include “an artistic or cultural performance or educational gathering that supports the mission of the sponsoring non-profit organization.”

    Public Libraries

Many public libraries across the state, including branches of the Chicago Public Library, are closed.

    Mail Delivery

The USPS will be closed on MLK Day, and mail will not be delivered. According to officials, the day is one of 11 holidays the USPS will be closed for in 2025.

UPS is also closed on MLK Day, the company said, while FedEx will have “modified service.

    Secretary of State’s offices

All Illinois Secretary of State Offices, including driver services facilities will be closed, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

    Banks

According to the Federal Reserve Bank, the federal holiday means closures.

    Retail, Restaurants, Grocery Stores

While most government functions will not be operating on Monday, most grocery stores, big box stores and restaurants will remain open.

Major chain stores such as Target, Costco and Walmart will remain open on the holiday.

    What happens on Inauguration Day?

Inauguration Day is the day the new U.S. president is officially sworn into office.

Under provisions of the 20th Amendment to the United States Constitution, the new president officially takes office on Jan. 20, unless that date falls on a Sunday. In that situation, the inauguration would take place on Jan. 21.

Prior to the passage of the 20th Amendment, the new president had taken office on March 4.

So what happens on the day?

In addition to the president taking office, the vice president also takes the oath of office and becomes the vice president at noon on Jan. 20.

The new president traditionally offers an inaugural address on Capitol Hill following their swearing in, with the public invited to attend the transfer of power ceremony. A military parade typically follows, as does a traditional inauguration luncheon.

After the ceremony, the new president typically attends a series of inaugural events throughout the capital, including glitzy balls and dances. Monies raised for the inauguration are typically used to help pay for the events, including costs related to the oath of office ceremony itself.

Money leftover from the inaugural committee is expected to be used toward a future Trump presidential library, according to the person, the Associated Press reported.

  • Why Jayson Tatum wanting to guard Anthony Edwards is impactful to Celtics – NBC Sports Boston

Why Jayson Tatum wanting to guard Anthony Edwards is impactful to Celtics – NBC Sports Boston

The top tier of NBA players don’t just score a ton of points. They also want the challenge of shutting down the opponent’s best player on defense.

Jayson Tatum did both in the Boston Celtics’ impressive 118-115 road win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday night, and it was yet another example of why he should be a serious candidate for league MVP.

With both Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis out of the lineup due to injury, Tatum scored a game-high 33 points, including 16 in the third quarter. He also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out eight assists, along with three steals, in 38 minutes of playing time.

But most importantly, Tatum took on the challenge of guarding Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards. And it wasn’t a case of head coach Joe Mazzulla assigning Tatum to defend Edwards. The 26-year-old wing asked for the matchup.

“He wanted to guard him, so he took that defensive challenge,” Mazzulla said postgame. “That’s key for us to get to where we want to get to is him taking that on, so it’s a credit to him.”

Edwards played well below his standards. He scored just 15 points on 5-for-16 shooting (2-for-9 from 3-point range). When guarded by Tatum, Edwards scored just six points on 2-for-5 shooting (0-for-2 on 3-pointers) with one turnover.

“Even when I might have the shot, I’m like, ‘Aw they bringing two.’ Or a lane. I don’t know, man. I don’t know. I watch film, trying to figure it out,” Edwards said postgame, via MassLive’s Brian Robb.

“It’s hard to beat two NBA players, you know what I mean? These dudes are NBA players. It’s not like high school or middle school. These dudes, 6-8, 6-9, long strong, athletic. Then they funneling me to the dude who 8 feet tall at the rim. It’s crazy.”

Eddie House explained on NBC Sports Boston’s Celtics Postgame Live how Tatum wanting to guard Edwards lifted his teammates and gave them a boost.

“Since Jaylen Brown is out, your superstar steps up,” House said. “He says ‘I want that challenge. I need that. I’m not ducking the smoke, I want that smoke.’ And what that does is it fuels your team because you see your guy going out there not only just wanting to get paper on one end, and get money, and score points. ‘No, I also want to guard the best player that they have,’ so that does ignite your team.

“It gives you a little extra jolt, a little extra juice to go out there and do your job a little bit better than maybe you were thinking about doing when you placed them up. It’s January. It’s starting to become the dog days. Sometimes it’s hard to find that motivation and extra energy. He gave them a bolt of energy by (guarding Edwards).

Tatum leads the Celtics in points (28.5), rebounds (9.5) and assists (5.6) per game. He’s also excelling defensively, and his 108.5 defensive rating is two points better than it was last season.

Tatum probably won’t put up the stats required to win MVP, especially with Nikola Jokic averaging almost a triple-double for the Denver Nuggets. But it’s pretty hard to find any player in the league who makes a larger impact for his team on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor than Tatum does for the Celtics.

Why Jayson Tatum wanting to guard Anthony Edwards is impactful to Celtics – NBC Sports Boston

In a recent interview, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum expressed his desire to guard Minnesota Timberwolves rookie sensation Anthony Edwards in their upcoming matchup. This may seem like a small gesture, but it could have a significant impact on the Celtics’ defense and overall performance.

Tatum, known for his versatility and defensive prowess, has shown a willingness to take on tough defensive assignments in the past. By volunteering to guard Edwards, Tatum is showing leadership and a commitment to shutting down one of the league’s rising stars.

Guarding Edwards not only showcases Tatum’s defensive skills, but it also sends a message to his teammates that he is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win. This level of commitment and dedication can inspire the rest of the Celtics to elevate their defensive efforts and play with more intensity.

Additionally, by taking on the challenge of guarding Edwards, Tatum can potentially disrupt the Timberwolves’ offensive game plan and limit the rookie’s impact on the game. This could give the Celtics a strategic advantage and help them secure a crucial win.

Overall, Tatum’s desire to guard Anthony Edwards reflects his competitive spirit, leadership qualities, and commitment to team success. This mindset could be just what the Celtics need to turn their season around and make a deep playoff run. Stay tuned to see how Tatum’s defensive assignment against Edwards unfolds and impacts the Celtics’ performance.

  • Saquon Barkley’s respect for Derrick Henry – NBC Sports Philadelphia

Saquon Barkley’s respect for Derrick Henry – NBC Sports Philadelphia

As Saquon Barkley explained the emotions he was feeling after the end of his record pursuit this week, he was asked about winning the rushing title in 2024.

    Not so fast.

“I gotta be careful what I say because Derrick (Henry) can still get that, you know what I mean?” Barkley said. “He’s a special player and you can’t count him out of anything.”

It’s clear that Barkley has a ton of respect for Baltimore’s Derrick Henry, who enters Week 18 with 1,783 rushing yards. Henry is 222 yards away from Barkley so it’s obviously a long shot as the Ravens get ready to play the Browns, but Barkley isn’t counting Henry out.

Barkley actually spoke with Henry on Wednesday. Two of the best running backs in the NFL have grown close. They were rooting for each other this offseason in free agency as they moved on from their former teams and they’ve been rooting for each other throughout this historic season.

When it was brought up to Barkley, who hit 2,000 rushing yards on the season last week, that the first eight members of the 2K Club have failed to get back to that mark, he quickly mentioned King Henry.

Henry finished with 2,027 yards back in 2020 with the Titans and this is now the second-best season of his incredible career.

“Derrick Henry could do it,” Barkley said.

Then it was brought up that Henry was 217 yards shy of 2,000 for the 2024 season.

“I’m not gonna lie, I knew that number,” Barkley said. “I talked to him today. He was talking to me to see if I was going to get [the record]. Obviously, the news came out that I’m sitting. I told him you could do something special too. Be the first one to do it twice. You never know.”

    Get a paw up there

Jalen Carter has the ability to wreck games. You see him beat double-teams, knife into the backfield, hit quarterbacks and take down running backs. All the things that garner acclaim.

But there’s another thing Carter has been exceptionally good at in 2024.

He’s batting down passes at a really high rate. After he didn’t have a single pass breakup as a rookie in 2023, Carter has batted down six passes this season. His sixth came on Sunday against the Cowboys and he nearly swatted the ball into the arms of teammate Nolan Smith.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said that ability is just “innate” in some players.

“Yeah, he’s got a knack for it,” Fangio said. “That’s usually what it is. Some guys have a knack for it. He seems to have a knack for it. It’s been good.”

Carter has his own theory on why he’s been so good at batting pass.

“I think that’s from when I played offense in high school,” he said. “I’m used to running routes, little drags down the middle and stuff, catching the ball. Usually when I’m rushing and I see it’s not going to be a rush where I can get a sack or something, I can real a quarterback’s eyes and I can tell where somebody is coming behind me and I can get my hand up.”

Carter’s six batted passes are second among defensive tackles in the NFL this season behind just Cameron Hayward, who has eight. And this is the most batted passes for any Eagles DT since at least 1999.

Trevor Laws batted 5 passes in 2010, Darwin Walker had 5 in 2003 and the most Fletcher Cox ever had in a season was 3 in his rookie season in 2012. Carter has more batted passes this year than the rest of the Eagles’ DTs combined: Jordan Davis (2), Thomas Booker (1), Milton Williams (1).

    Opportunity for Tanner

You’ll hear a bunch of people call Sunday’s Week 18 game against the Giants “meaningless.” And from a playoff seeding perspective, it is.

But this game has plenty of meaning for the backup Eagles who will get a rare chance to show their ability in a regular season game. The top guy on that list is third-string quarterback Tanner McKee, who will make his first NFL start.

“This is my chance to play a significant amount of snaps, reps, and to go out and show what I’ve been working for this whole year,” McKee said. “Obviously, been putting in a ton of work for myself on the practice field and different things like that. I feel like I can showcase that and I’m super excited for the opportunity.”

The Eagles drafted McKee in the sixth round out of Stanford last season and have been developing him since. Last week against the Cowboys, McKee made his NFL debut in relief of the injured Kenny Pickett and played well. McKee completed 3 of 4 passes for 54 yards and 2 touchdowns. His only incompletion was a great ball to A.J. Brown in the end zone but Brown wasn’t able to keep his feet in bounds.

McKee, 24, said this is a big opportunity to show his team and the rest of the league what he can do. It’s also a chance for a big confidence-boost.

Even though McKee has barely played all year, he thinks he has improved as a quarterback.

“I feel like almost having another season under my belt with the offense, just feeling more comfortable,” he said. “Everything’s happening second-nature with different checks or where your eyes should be. Just not thinking as much, being able to see the defense, look off guys or just confirm things a little quicker with your eyes.”

    Harnessing Sydney Brown’s aggression

From the first play last Sunday against the Cowboys, Eagles second-year safety/special teamer Sydney Brown wasn’t afraid to mix it up with the opponent in a chippy game.

Eventually, Brown was tossed in the fourth quarter for body-slamming a Cowboys player in the tunnel after two Cowboys went after him.

“Unfortunate that it ended up with a brawl, but that’s just something we make a learning experience for Sydney,” Eagles special teams coordinator Michael Clay said. “When the whistle blows, so he doesn’t put anybody else in a bad predicament going forward. When you have a guy like Sydney Brown you’re not going to take away his tenacity. You got to make a learning point to hone in that emotion after the play stops just so you don’t put anybody else in a bad spot.”

The week before, starting safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was ejected against the Commanders. And you can also toss in defensive tackle Jalen Carter as a player who routinely plays up to (and sometimes slightly over) the line of aggression.

It’s about finding that balance. But Clay definitely appreciates the edge and emotion that Brown brings to special teams.

“Sydney does it through a physicality standpoint, especially on the outside,” Clay said. “So he does bring an edge. You always want your guys to back each other up. I think they do a good job on special teams of backing each other up and trying to get out of those dustups and make sure we don’t lose anybody going forward.”

    Developing talent in the NFL

Nick Sirianni always talks about the developmental periods the Eagles hold after practice for their younger players. So as they get ready to play a game where a lot of those guys are going to play, he was asked more about those developmental periods.

Sirianni said that Frank Reich had similar practice periods in Indianapolis when Sirianni was an offensive coordinator and the Eagles had done it before he arrived too. So it was a no-brainer to keep doing them.

    Sirianni on Friday explained why.

“It’s just so important,” Sirianni said. “When you’re on the scout team and you’re not getting a lot of the reps with the starters, then you don’t rep your plays, right? You’re doing what a card says. It’s a lot different running a play when you hear it in the huddle and have to go process it and go do it, one of our plays, as opposed to looking at a card, ‘Do this.’ It’s just different. We’ve got to try to put them in positions to develop.”

While Sirianni said he didn’t want to give away all of their methods to develop talent, he did offer one more detail. On Friday or Saturday — it’s up to the position coach — those scout team players have an extra meeting to go over their practice reps. The Eagles have to always prepare their starters to play but they want to keep bringing along their backups too.

In a recent interview with NBC Sports Philadelphia, Saquon Barkley opened up about his respect for fellow running back Derrick Henry. Barkley praised Henry’s work ethic, physicality, and ability to dominate on the field.

Barkley, who is known for his own explosive playing style, spoke highly of Henry’s impressive performance in the 2020 season, where he rushed for over 2,000 yards and won the NFL rushing title.

“He’s a beast out there. The way he runs through defenders and makes big plays happen is truly inspiring,” Barkley said. “I have a lot of respect for his game and the way he approaches every matchup.”

The two running backs have faced off on the field before, with Henry’s Tennessee Titans coming out on top in their most recent meeting. Despite the competition, Barkley expressed admiration for Henry’s skillset and the impact he has on the game.

“It’s always a battle when you go up against a player like Derrick. He’s a force to be reckoned with, and I have nothing but respect for him,” Barkley added.

As both players continue to make their mark in the NFL, it’s clear that Barkley holds Henry in high regard both on and off the field. Fans can expect to see more explosive performances from these two talented running backs in the seasons to come.

  • Giants among teams connected to Pete Alonso, Jack Flaherty – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Giants among teams connected to Pete Alonso, Jack Flaherty – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

With the MLB free-agency market red-hot, the Giants remain in the hunt to add some more big names to the roster.

San Francisco reportedly still is in the running for three of the biggest names still available — Pete Alonso, Jack Flaherty and Roki Sasaki — according to a piece published Friday by MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

Alonso is the best power hitter available on the market and “has been connected” to the Giants this offseason, per Feinsand., along with the Toronto Blue Jays. It’s believed the slugger will remain with the New York Mets, however, Feinsand reported, citing industry sources.

While the Giants lost out on the Corbin Burnes sweepstakes, the team could still pursue another hard-throwing starter like Flaherty to pair with Logan Webb at the top of the rotation. The Giants remain “in the mix” for Flaherty, per Feinsand, in addition to the Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs.

Still, San Francisco already spent a lot on Willy Adames and Matt Chapman, so it’s unclear whether president of baseball operations Buster Posey and the front office would open the checkbook again.

The most interesting free-agent prospect is Sasaki, the flame-throwing right-hander who has been turning heads in Japan. The 23-year-old righty has until Jan. 23 to sign with an MLB team and already has met with the Giants this offseason, per Feinsand.

Since Sasaki is classified as an international amateur free agent, he cannot command a massive contract, so he would be a financial fit for any team. The Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres are considered the two frontrunners for Sasaki, Feinsand reported, citing industry sources, but the Giants remain in contention for now.

With the Dodgers fresh off a World Series title and still aggressively pursuing top talent, San Francisco can ill-afford to fall behind in the NL West arms race. Signing Alonso, Flaherty or Sasaki would go a long way to closing that competitive gap.

“Giants among teams connected to Pete Alonso, Jack Flaherty – NBC Sports Bay Area & California”

The San Francisco Giants are making waves in the MLB offseason as they are reportedly connected to two big-name players, Pete Alonso and Jack Flaherty. According to NBC Sports Bay Area and California, the Giants have expressed interest in acquiring both players to bolster their roster for the upcoming season.

Pete Alonso, the power-hitting first baseman for the New York Mets, would bring a potent bat to the Giants lineup. The 2019 NL Rookie of the Year has quickly established himself as one of the premier sluggers in the league, hitting over 30 home runs in each of his first three seasons.

On the pitching side, Jack Flaherty of the St. Louis Cardinals is also on the Giants’ radar. The 26-year-old right-hander has been a standout performer for the Cardinals, posting impressive numbers and earning an All-Star selection in 2019.

If the Giants were able to land both Alonso and Flaherty, it would be a huge boost to their chances of contending in the competitive NL West. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as the Giants look to make a splash in the offseason.

Fog prompts ground stop at San Diego International Airport – NBC 7 San Diego

Fog was creating a travel nightmare Friday at the San Diego International Airport as travelers wrapped up the New Year’s Eve holiday.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop Thursday night for SAN, which created a domino effect of delays and cancellations that continued to affect travelers on Friday morning as fog continued to blanket the San Diego’s coastline.

“Flights are currently delayed by 90 minutes, SAN spokesperson Nicole Hall said. “Flights are currently arriving and departing but with impact of last night’s ground delay and this morning’s we anticipate delays throughout the rest of today as we get caught up.”

Hall advised travelers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

Dense fog over Del Cerro in San Diego on Jan. 3, 2025.

Thursday’s ground stop came amid a dense fog advisory for San Diego County’s coastal areas, which was in effect until 10 a.m. Friday. Some areas had visibility reduced to a quarter-mile, according to NBC 7 Meteorologist Brooke Martell.

SAN’s website was flooded with red as flights were delayed Friday. FlightAware, an unofficial flight tracking website, was showing nearly 300 delays and 40 cancellations by 11 a.m.

While fog is expected to clear in the afternoon, it’s possible foggy conditions will return to the coastline Friday evening, Martell said.

The airport’s holiday travel period continues until Sunday, which means they estimate about 80,000 people leaving and landing at SAN daily between now and then.

A Canadian family were some of the hundreds affected by delays. The Gendreau family was set to fly out at 7:15 a.m. but will be stranded at the airport until at least 1 p.m.

“We found out this morning when we arrived because all my reservations were done on my phone and it was turned off because I’m Canadian in the U.S. so I didn’t get any notification before we went here,” Alain Gendreau said “We don’t have any choice. So choose your battle. There’s nothing we can do.”

US Olympic sprinter Fred Kerley arrested for battery in Miami Beach – NBC 6 South Florida

Star United States sprinter Fred Kerley was arrested in Miami Beach for alleged battery on a law enforcement officer and other charges in an incident that was captured in police body camera footage.

In addition to the battery charge, Kerley, 29, was booked into jail early Friday on charges of resisting an officer without violence and disorderly conduct.

Miami Beach Police officials said officers were investigating an incident in the 100 block of 9th Street late Thursday night when Kerley approached the scene, expressing concerns about his vehicle, which was parked nearby.

Kerley’s “demeanor became increasingly aggressive” and he was asked to leave the area but he refused, police said.

Police said Kerley took a “fighting stance” and refused to obey officers’ commands, so they used a stun gun on him to take him into custody.

Police body camera footage released Friday doesn’t show the beginning of the encounter but shows Kerley, in a grey patterned hoodie, speaking with multiple officers as another officer approaches.

The officer places a hand on Kerley’s chest and a struggle ensues as multiple officers wrestle him to the ground, the video shows.

The video then shows an officer hits Kerley multiple times as he continues to struggle and a woman, believed to be Kerley’s girlfriend, screams at the officers.

“Stop! Stop!” the woman repeatedly yells. “He’s an athlete, please do not mess with him!”

Star United States sprinter Fred Kerley was arrested in Miami Beach on battery on a law enforcement officer and other charges, police said.

The officers are heard telling Kerley to stop resisting for several moments before one officer says “I’m gonna Tase him” and the others back away.

The officer deploys the Taser on Kerley, who falls to the ground and is handcuffed as the woman continues yelling.

“Stop! Stop! Get the f—— Taser off of him!” she yells. “Stop! Stop! Stop! He didn’t do anything!”

After several more moments, Kerley is heard speaking with the officers.

“Y’all weak … you’re weak,” he says. “You put your hands on me, hit me in the head.”

Kerley was expected to appear in bond court Friday afternoon. Attorney information wasn’t available.

Kerley won bronze in the 100m race at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and won silver in the event in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
