  • Brush fires reported in La Jolla and near U.S. border – NBC 7 San Diego

A trio of fires began burning Thursday afternoon around San Diego County.

One of the fires, which began just after 2 p.m., is burning near Gilman Drive in La Jolla, not far from where it intersects with Interstate 5, which is also close to UC San Diego and the Torrey Pines golf course, where the PGA is hosting the Farmers Insurance Open this week.

A second vegetation fire also began burning Thursday afternoon on a hilltop near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Flames from the fire could be seen racing up a hillside on Otay Mountain, near the Otay Mountain Truck Trail.

Smoke from the blaze was visible for miles. It’s not yet known what, if any, resources, have been assigned to the fire, though a fixed-wing aircraft was seen making a water drop on what is obviously a fast-growing fire.

The fires come in the wake of a series of blazes this week, including ones in Mission Valley near the Fashion Valley Mall and in Rancho Bernardo, as well as a second small one in Mission Valley on Thursday monrning started in a homeless encampment.

Most concerning for firefighters and residents, though, is the fact that Thursday’s forecast is for the strongest winds of a week of Santa Ana’s.

Check back here for updates on this breaking news story — Ed.

In La Jolla, the brush fire has already consumed several acres of land and is threatening nearby homes and businesses. Firefighters are working tirelessly to contain the blaze and protect the community.

Near the U.S. border, another brush fire has been reported, adding to the challenges faced by local authorities. The border patrol and fire departments are coordinating their efforts to ensure the safety of residents and prevent the fire from spreading further.

As the situation continues to develop, residents are urged to stay informed and follow any evacuation orders or safety precautions issued by authorities. • Dallas Goedert, Cam Jurgens miss practice – NBC Sports Philadelphia

A couple key Eagles were not practicing on Thursday as the Eagles prepare to host the Commanders in the NFC Championship Game.

Tight end Dallas Goedert (ankle) was at practice at the Linc but did not have a helmet and was not participating. He did catch some passes on the side of the field while his teammates warmed up. And center Cam Jurgens (back) wasn’t seen at practice at all during the portion open to reporters.

Both Goedert and Jurgens were listed as “DNP” on the Eagles’ estimated injury report after a walkthrough to start the week.

Jurgens was a Pro Bowler in his first season as the Eagles’ full-time center, replacing legend Jason Kelce, so it would be a big loss if he can’t play on Sunday.

On Thursday, Pro Bowl left guard Landon Dickerson worked at center. While Dickerson hasn’t played much center during his four-year NFL career, he did play center in college and has a good command of the offense. Tyler Steen replaced Dickerson at left guard.

If Jurgens can’t play on Sunday, the Eagles’ offensive line would likely look like this (from left to right): Jordan Mailata, Tyler Steen, Landon Dickerson, Mekhi Becton, Lane Johnson.

Goedert missed some time this season but is leading the Eagles in receiving through the first two games of this postseason. He has 8 catches for 103 yards the last two weeks after missing seven games in the regular season. He has also been a key cog in the Eagles’ run game as a blocker.

If Goedert can’t play, backup Grant Calcaterra would be the TE1 in this game.

All of the Eagles who were listed as limited to start the week were practicing on Thursday: QB Jalen Hurts (knee), CB Quinyon Mitchell (shoulder), WR AJ Brown (knee/rest), WR Britain Covey (neck), T Lane Johnson (knee/rest), OLB Josh Sweat (ankle/rest).

The two biggest questions after the divisional round win over the Rams were about Hurts and Mitchell. Both are expected to play on Sunday. The next question is about just how mobile Hurts will be with that left knee injury. Hurts had his left leg get caught under him awkwardly on Sunday and was limited after the injury.

Dallas Goedert, Cam Jurgens miss practice – NBC Sports Philadelphia

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert and center Cam Jurgens were absent from practice today, raising concerns among fans and coaching staff.

Goedert, who has been a key player for the Eagles this season, was seen on the sidelines during practice, but did not participate in any drills. It is unclear why he was held out of practice or if his absence will impact his availability for the next game.

Jurgens, a rookie center, was also missing from practice, further complicating the situation for the Eagles’ offensive line. It is unknown if Jurgens’ absence is due to an injury or another issue.

Both players are integral to the Eagles’ success this season, so their absence is definitely a cause for concern. Fans will have to wait for updates from the team to learn more about the status of Goedert and Jurgens. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • 3 observations after Sixers’ skid reaches 5 games with loss to Pacers  – NBC Sports Philadelphia

The Sixers dropped their fifth consecutive game and dipped to 10 games under .500 on Saturday night in Indiana.

With a 115-102 loss to the Pacers, the Sixers now sit at 15-25. They’ll reach the season’s halfway point Sunday when they visit the Bucks.

Pascal Siakam posted 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the 24-19 Pacers. Myles Turner had 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Tyrese Maxey was the Sixers’ leading scorer with 28 points. Kelly Oubre Jr. and Ricky Council IV each added 18.

The Sixers’ injury list remained lengthy and included Guerschon Yabusele, who sat out his first game of the season because of right knee swelling. In addition to Yabusele, the following Sixers missed Saturday’s game:

    • Joel Embiid (left knee injury management)
    • Paul George (left groin tightness)
    • Kyle Lowry (right hip sprain)
    • Caleb Martin (right hip sprain)
    • KJ Martin (left foot stress reaction)
    • Jared McCain (left lateral meniscus surgery)

Here are observations on the Sixers’ loss to Indiana:

    Drummond back in action

Andre Drummond returned after six games out with a left toe injury. He started alongside Maxey, Eric Gordon, Oubre and Council.

For the first time in a while, the Sixers’ strong start prompted the opponent to call an early timeout. The Pacers committed a couple of sloppy turnovers, Oubre and Gordon knocked down jumpers and the Sixers went up 8-1.

The Sixers’ zone defense was initially effective; Indiana began 0 for 6 from three-point range. The decision to use heavy doses of zone was reasonable, in part because it allowed Drummond to hang around the paint a bit more in his first game since Jan. 4.

The 31-year-old big man finished the night with eight points and three boards in 27 minutes. He looked rusty, losing out on several rebounds he’s accustomed to grabbing and being whistled for two illegal screens in the first half.

Moving forward, the Sixers will hope Drummond can stay healthy and provide some measure of consistency and dependability at center. Counting the Indiana game, Embiid and Drummond have combined to make five appearances in the month of January.

The best we’ve seen from Bona

Drummond shared the floor with fellow center Adem Bona for a few minutes in the second quarter.

Bona had his best half yet in the NBA. Though not known for his scoring, the rookie clearly has the power, leaping ability and competitive fire to do damage inside — on pick-and-rolls, on put-backs, in the open floor. He scored 11 first-half points on 5-for-5 shooting and threw down three big dunks.

Bona still doesn’t tend to appear very comfortable in less simple offensive situations, but that’s fine as long as he understands his game and avoids unnecessary risks. No need to try tight-window, cross-court passes out of the short roll or attempt to do anything tricky as a ball handler. He recorded no turnovers against Indiana and one assist, dishing to Maxey for a backdoor layup in the third quarter.

“Playing in the dunker (spot) helps us get spaced a lot, so I’ve been trying to do that and trying to draw the other big out of the paint,” Bona said on Jan. 9. “I think the biggest thing I’ve learned is me being on the court helps the team space the floor.”

The Sixers’ only two other players to check in off the bench in the first half Saturday were Justin Edwards and Jeff Dowtin Jr. Indiana’s second unit racked up 30 points before halftime, but the Sixers closed the second quarter well and kept rolling to open the third. After a Council three and a Drummond dunk, they held a 66-61 lead.

    Not enough long-range success

Indiana soon found its footing and surged back in front.

In many of the Sixers’ drastically shorthanded games this season, they’ve needed to make plenty of open jumpers to mitigate their lack of healthy players. That didn’t happen against the Pacers.

The Sixers went 10 for 34 (29.4 percent) from three-point range. Maxey was productive inside the arc, but he shot 2 for 7 on his long-distance tries. Over his last five games, he’s at 25.5 percent.

The Pacers seemed on the verge of putting the game away early in the fourth quarter. Edwards fouled out and the Sixers’ deficit grew with Maxey on the bench. Indiana took a 101-85 lead on a Siakam hoop with 8:25 to go.

Instead of Drummond or Bona, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse then opted to use Pete Nance at center. Nance hit a three on his first touch and the Sixers rather improbably made a 10-0 run. A Council slam trimmed the Pacers’ advantage to 106-100.

Again, the Sixers could not ultimately beat the odds. They’re two games out of a play-in tournament spot and searching for any kind of win.

    1. Embiid’s absence is glaring: Without Joel Embiid on the court, the Sixers’ lack of rim protection and interior scoring was evident against the Pacers. The team struggled to contain Indiana’s big men and generate easy baskets in the paint.
    2. Ben Simmons’ shooting woes continue: Simmons’ struggles from the free-throw line and perimeter were on full display in the loss to the Pacers. His inability to consistently knock down open jump shots has become a major concern for the team moving forward.
    3. Defensive lapses are costing the Sixers: Philadelphia’s defense, which was once a strength of the team, has faltered during their recent losing streak. The Sixers have allowed opponents to score at will and have struggled to get stops when it matters most. Addressing these defensive issues will be key to turning things around for the team.

  • Where do women’s reproductive rights stand with Trump in office? – NBC Boston

A government website to educate people about their reproductive rights has been taken down on the heels of President Donald Trump‘s inauguration.

The move is exacerbating long-held fears about what his presidency means for abortion access.

“Just hours after taking the oath of office, Donald Trump took down reproductiverights.gov — a website to help women find health care and understand their rights,” Rep. Katherine Clark, a Democrat from Massachusetts, posted on X. “They’re wasting no time assaulting freedom.”

Some say they saw this coming.

“The goal here is to control the flow of information,” Reproductive Equity Now President Rebecca Hart Holder said. “We know that the Trump administration does not want women to know how to access comprehensive reproductive health care, so I’m disappointed. I’m not surprised.”

Members of the LGBTQ+ community are reacting to President Donald Trump’s executive order on gender policy.

“Not surprised,” Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey said. “It’s what he ran on. I mean, he’s proud of overturning Roe and taking away abortion access in this country.”

The site, launched in 2022, explained which health plans are required to cover birth control under the Affordable Care Act, which Trump wants to repeal.

“We want to make sure women have access to health care they need and that we continue to protect our providers,” Healey said.

“After watching the Biden-Harris Administration insist for four years that abortion is the solution to a woman’s every need, we look forward to collaborating with President Trump’s outstanding pro-woman cabinet to develop any resource a woman might need that respects her dignity and allows her to choose life,” Massachusetts Citizens for Life President Myrna Maloney Flynn said.

Several laws have been passed to protect abortion care in Massachusetts over the years, and the state has its own website to educate people and connect them with resources.

“One of the most impactful things that happened was that the governor stockpiled mifepristone — one of two drugs in the medication abortion regiment — to make sure Massachusetts residents are safe, no matter what happens,” Hart Holder said.

Reproductive health experts say this is only the beginning. The Trump administration could take other steps to restrict abortion access across the country, including tampering with FDA approval of mifepristone or invoking a zombie law called the Comstock Act.

“We are hopeful, based on President Trump’s record of pro-life policies in his first term, that he will again defend unborn life during his second administration,” said Attorney Sam Whiting, general counsel for the Massachusetts Family Institute. “This should start with using all available tools to protect pro-life pregnancy resource centers from the types of violence and censorship that they have experienced here in Massachusetts.”

As President Trump’s administration continues, many women are left wondering where their reproductive rights stand in the current political climate. With Trump’s conservative views on abortion and contraception, there is concern about potential rollbacks on women’s access to reproductive healthcare.

One of the most notable changes under Trump’s presidency is the expansion of the global gag rule, which restricts funding for international organizations that provide or even discuss abortion services. This policy has far-reaching implications for women around the world who rely on these organizations for essential healthcare.

Additionally, Trump has appointed conservative judges to the Supreme Court, raising concerns about the future of Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision that legalized abortion in the United States. With a more conservative-leaning court, there is potential for restrictions on abortion rights to be upheld or expanded.

In terms of access to contraception, the Trump administration has rolled back the Affordable Care Act’s contraceptive mandate, allowing employers to opt out of providing birth control coverage for religious or moral reasons. This could result in many women losing access to affordable contraception.

Overall, women’s reproductive rights are at a critical juncture under Trump’s presidency. It is essential for women and advocates to stay informed and vocal about protecting these rights in the face of potential threats.

  • Celtics’ rout of Warriors was a ‘mindset win’ – NBC Sports Boston

The Boston Celtics have responded well to losses all season long, and Monday’s game vs. the Golden State Warriors was no exception.

After falling to the Atlanta Hawks in overtime Saturday, the C’s started their four-game West Coast road trip with an emphatic 125-85 victory. The win brought them to 12-1 this season after a loss with an average margin of victory of 21.7 points, according to WEEI’s Justin Turpin.

After the Celtics’ win over the Warriors, Jaylen Brown spoke about the team’s mentality heading into the matchup.

“We’ve just got to fight,” he told NBC Sports Boston’s Abby Chin. “We’ve just got to fight to get a win. It’s the NBA, it’s tough to get a win each and every night. Coming off a long flight, tough game, overtime, we just wanted to come out as a team and do it together.”

It’s been a rough stretch for the reigning champions. Boston entered Monday’s game with an 8-8 record over its last 16 games. Perhaps the midseason malaise is nothing to worry about, as Warriors coach Steve Kerr asserted before the matchup, but it’s been difficult to ignore some of the red flags that have appeared over the last month.

Heading out west after the brutal loss to Atlanta presented another stiff test for the C’s, and they passed with flying colors.

“Tonight was just a mindset win,” Brown said. “Our bodies not feeling great, overtime, long flight, early game, nobody made an excuse. We just come out and just tried to put our best foot forward.”

Brown played a key role in the win, notching 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting while adding four rebounds and two assists. He also took on the challenge of guarding Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, who finished with 18 points on a modest 6-for-16 from the floor (4-13 3-PT).

The 2024 NBA Finals MVP hasn’t looked like himself at points this month, but he stepped up to lead the bounce-back effort. Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla spoke after the game about handling players who are going through struggles and how he attempts to get them back on the right track.

“One, you trust them,” Mazzulla said. “You trust the work that they’ve put in their career. You trust the work they put in daily. I think that’s a huge part of that. These guys go through so much on and off the court.

“So, it’s a lot of trust, just seeing the way he carries himself, and I think it’s my job to (ask), ‘Hey, how can I put you in better situations?’ So, I think it’s a high level of communication that you try to have, and just whatever they need, you try to make sure us as a staff and team can put them in the best position.”

Brown and the C’s will look to duplicate Monday’s performance when they visit the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night. Tip-off for that matchup is set for 10:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Boston.

The Boston Celtics’ dominant victory over the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night was more than just a statement win on the scoreboard. According to NBC Sports Boston, the rout was a “mindset win” for the Celtics.

From the opening tip, the Celtics came out with a focused and determined approach, setting the tone for the game early on. They played with a sense of urgency and intensity that was unmatched by the Warriors, who seemed to struggle to keep up with Boston’s relentless energy.

The Celtics’ defense was particularly impressive, holding the Warriors to just 39% shooting from the field and forcing 20 turnovers. Their ability to disrupt Golden State’s offense and turn defense into offense was a key factor in their commanding victory.

But it wasn’t just their defensive prowess that stood out – the Celtics also excelled on the offensive end, with multiple players stepping up and contributing to the scoring effort. Jayson Tatum led the way with 26 points, while Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart also made significant contributions.

Overall, the Celtics’ performance against the Warriors was a testament to their mental toughness and resilience. They showed that they are capable of competing at a high level against top teams in the league and that they have the mindset to overcome any challenges that come their way.

As the Celtics continue their season, this “mindset win” could serve as a turning point for the team, propelling them to even greater success in the future. It was a statement victory that showed the rest of the league that the Celtics are a force to be reckoned with.

  • Steph Curry ignores aches to fight Warriors’ increasingly futile cause – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Stephen Curry rolled out of bed Monday to prepare his aching knees for another basketball game, though he was listed as questionable with a left ankle sprain on the Warriors’ injury report. He was cleared shortly before tipoff, and it quickly became evident his movement was compromised.

Before blaming his left knee, or right knee or left ankle, consider that by the third quarter, with the Warriors in the throes of a 125-85 demolition by the Boston Celtics, Curry was trying to shake the pain away from his throbbing right thumb.

That thumb, sore for a month and aggravated two days ago, forced Curry into exponentially more left-handed dribbling than usual as the Warriors were being crushed to a fine powder.

This routine — a 36-year-old superstar laboring in vain through incessant physical and mental challenges — is uncomfortable to watch not only for the agitated souls wandering the streets of Dub Nation, but also for those who enjoy competitive, high-quality basketball.

We are entering the stage where it is fair to ask two questions: Is Curry wasting his time? Or is Curry’s time being wasted by his teammates?

With 1:45 left in the third quarter, Warriors coach Steve Kerr, feeling merciful, provided a temporary response to those questions. Golden State was trailing by 32 when he beckoned Curry to the bench and kept him there for the rest of the afternoon. Curry’s replacement? Quinten Post, rookie center on a two-way contract.

White flag raised, towel thrown onto the floor, Warriors back to .500 (21-21) for the fourth time in 14 days.

“We’ve got to flush this one down the toilet and get ready for [Sacramento]” Kerr told reporters at Chase Center.

It was clear Kerr didn’t care to witness his best player, clearly physically impaired, trying to carry the escalating weight of the Warriors through a tunnel without light at the end. The Celtics were ferocious, piling on. The Warriors, after the first eight minutes, were compliant.

After falling behind 8-0 in 92 seconds, the Warriors fought back to tie less than two minutes later. They were trailing 19-17 when Curry was subbed out with 3:35 left in the first quarter. They were outscored 10-1 the rest of the quarter – and 68-45 over the next two.

“It’s just a tough one from the end of the first quarter through the rest of the game,” Curry said. “We came out with pretty good life and energy. A big part of our season has been when we can’t score, we lose spirit, we lose life, we lose competitiveness. You can get away with it against some teams. Against the defending champs it’s not a good formula for success.”

The Warriors, Curry aside, looked bereft of determination during the middle quarters. They went exactly 10 minutes without a field goal, spanning the last 5:20 of the first quarter and the first 4:40 of the second. Through the first three quarters, they shot 34.8 percent from the field, including 22.2 percent from beyond the arc.

“We were getting a lot of good looks,” Kerr said. “We were competing defensively, but the ball wasn’t going in.”

The Warriors are discovering that it’s very difficult for this roster to win when it doesn’t shoot well, particularly from distance. Unlike many teams, they don’t have four or five players capable of scoring at all three levels. Or getting to the line. Or consistently making shots at the rim.

One such player, Jonathan Kuminga, is sidelined with a sprained ankle. Another, Curry, is gritting his teeth and putting in the effort to be as productive as possible under unwanted circumstances. He scored 18 points in 27 minutes, but didn’t have much support.

Andrew Wiggins scored four points on 1-of-11 shooting from the field. Dennis Schröder and Buddy Hield combined for 15 points on 5-of-15 shooting, including 2 of 8 from deep. Moses Moody came off the bench for 13 points on 13 shots.

That’s not going to beat defending champs, who seemed to find all the holes in Golden State’s 3-point defense.

“You’ve just got to be able to come with the right attitude,” Curry said. “Like I said, it’s a belief thing that we can win whatever game is in front of us. It’s more so like an in-game thing. If doubt creeps in or a mindset that you’re not supposed to be on the floor, you’re a team that’s unbeatable, like I don’t know what it could be or what it is. You have to be able to just focus on what we need to do and hope it works out.”

The Celtics jumped on their reeling opponent with both feet, shooting 54.3 percent from the field and 41.7 percent beyond the arc to take a 97-63 lead into the fourth quarter. Kerr gave the fourth to the guys at the far end of the bench.

“We’ve been very competitive all year and our guys have fought,” Kerr said. “We’ve had a handful of these where we just get blown out and these are demoralizing. So most important thing to me is for our guys to forget this one, have a day off tomorrow, and be ready to roll in Sacramento on Wednesday.”

If only it were that simple. As the Warriors get deeper into the 2024-25 NBA season, they seem to have more lapses in execution and principles, which adversely affect physicality and energy. It’s becoming a recurring issue. Only once in their first 21 games did they lose by more than 10 points. They’ve endured six such defeats over their last 21.

Six of their next seven games will be at Chase Center, the other at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento. The schedule is relatively favorable. Team health is not. Draymond Green and Kuminga likely will miss all seven games. The mountain ahead seems to be growing higher.

“Next man up mentality,” Curry said. “Everybody who steps foot on the floor has gotta be able to perform, bring a spirit of ‘you belong,’ and do it together as a unit. Didn’t happen tonight.”

Curry will ignore his ailments and keep climbing, even though he is getting no closer to his goal. He’s fighting for a cause that feels more futile each day.

  • Federal agents on scene in East Boston – NBC Boston

Federal agents were spotted conducting an operation in East Boston on Wednesday.

The agents, wearing vests marked “POLICE — federal agent,” could be seen going door to door Wednesday afternoon, including at a home on Paris Street. At one point NBC10 Boston cameras captured agents putting a man inside a vehicle, apparently in custody.

The lack of clarity has neighbors on edge in a heavily migrant neighborhood concerned about how President Donald Trump’s new immigration policies could lead to enforcement actions in their communities.

“It is very sad to see someone leaving and not knowing what happened,” a neighbor named Bruno told Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra in Spanish.

José Marques Lima, who lives nearby with his family, said they saw the agents coming through the neighborhood and looking around.

NBC10 Boston did reach out to Immigration and Customs officials for comment but has not heard back.

“It’s quite scary and it’s causing a lot of concern among people in the community,” said Jeff Thielman, CEO of the International Institute of New England, which helps immigrants and refugees.

He says there are roughly 11 million undocumented people across the country.

“If millions of immigrants are deported, they will take the economy with them, because they work in many industries that are vital,” said Thielman.

“We do need immigrants, but there are many people waiting to come into the country legally,” said Janet Fogarty, a Massachusetts delegate to the Republican National Convention. “It is one of the first things President Trump said he’d do on Day 1 upon retaking the Oval Office, and he certainly has kept that promise, I support it.”

Fogarty is confident the arrests will be targeted.

“I don’t think we’re going to get everyone out who came here illegally, and President Trump has said the priority is going to be on those who have committed crimes, and those will be the first people deported,” said Fogarty.

Federal agents were spotted on scene in East Boston today, causing speculation and concern among residents. NBC Boston reported that the agents were seen in the area, although their specific purpose or mission remains unclear at this time.

Witnesses reported seeing agents in tactical gear and unmarked vehicles, prompting some to wonder if a major operation was underway in the neighborhood. Many residents took to social media to share their observations and express their unease about the situation.

Local authorities have not provided any official statement regarding the presence of federal agents in East Boston, leaving the community puzzled and anxious about what may be happening in their own backyard. NBC Boston will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.

  • Why Draymond Green isn’t surprised of Doug Christie’s Kings turnaround – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Doug Christie’s recent success with the Kings isn’t surprising to a familiar NBA rival.

On the latest episode of his “The Draymond Green Show” podcast, Golden State Warriors veteran forward Draymond Green, Sacramento’s foe since the team’s first-round NBA playoff series in 2023, revealed why Doug Christie is succeeding as Kings interim coach.

“I’m not surprised at all,” Green said. “I know what they’re capable of, and I think Doug has probably made small fixes with practice and more Malik Monk minutes.

“The whole sixth man thing is cool, but all of a sudden you’re down and need to get your best guns on the floor. I think he’s done some minor tweaks that were right there in their face. But, most importantly, you got guys that are working hard for you.

“And that is the challenge in the NBA as a coach: just to make sure that you have guys that are coming out to play hard. When you got guys that are playing for you, that goes a long way.”

In conversation with new co-host and former Warriors guard Baron Davis, Green also pointed out what might have led to former Kings coach Mike Brown’s shocking dismissal in late December.

And, no, Green didn’t get behind the exhausted rumor of Brown falling out of favor with star guard De’Aaron Fox.

“I’m not very surprised because I felt like Mike [Brown] kind of lost the guys,” Green told Davis. “I think a large part of losing the guys was the amount they were practicing.

“I think a lot of guys started feeling a certain way about that. They got talent. That’s the same team that took us to Game 7 a couple of years ago but added DeMar DeRozan. Like, obviously, that should help.”

Since taking over for Brown, Christie, a former player and assistant coach for the Kings, has led Sacramento to a 9-2 record, catapulting his team to eighth in the Western Conference.

If the Kings keep at it, Green is convinced there’s no reason a franchise icon like Christie won’t lose the interim tag

.“So, Doug, keep it up,” Green concluded. “He’s going to find himself with a job moving forward, not just as the interim coach of the Sacramento Kings.

“One thing is for certain: he’s put the time in. When it comes to that organization, Doug Christie has put the time in, probably more than anyone involved with the organization, including the ownership group. If he keeps winning and doing what he’s doing, he’s going to have himself a job moving forward, and it will be well deserved.”
