Taylor Swift’s Ex Shares Bloody Childhood Prank That Left His Neighbors ‘In Tears’
Joe Alwyn says his biggest childhood prank went wrong — and involved the police.
The “Brutalist” actor shared Friday on “The Drew Barrymore Show” that, decades before he dated Taylor Swift and (and possibly became the inspiration for the title of her 2024 album, “The Tortured Poets Department,”) he tortured his entire neighborhood with a bloody practical joke.
“When I was … about eight years old, I thought it would be a fun idea to prank the neighbors and I wrote some letters,” Alwyn told Barrymore. “They were prank-y, but they were of the threatening prank-y kind, and they were dipped in fake blood from a toy store.”
Alwyn, who grew up in a small town near London, sheepishly added, “I can’t believe I’m telling this,” before explaining how he and his older brother Thomas left the letters in every mailbox on his block.
He told Barrymore: “My parents got back from a dog walk and the phone rang and it was a neighbor on the phone to them saying, ‘Have you got one too?’ And me and my brother thought this was really funny, ’cause it was working! Success!”
The actor recalled him and his sibling being so giddy about the burgeoning chaos that they ran upstairs for a better view of the situation, but realized that their little prank had grown into something far more serious when police began to arrive.
“I’m not joking, this is true,” Alwyn said Friday. “The street was … quickly filled with the entire neighborhood in tears, and screaming, and worried. And, understandably, they had called the police, and Scotland Yard was on its way.”

The practical joke came to an end when three officers visited Alwyn’s home and the brothers confessed, though by that point Alwyn was sure he was going to be arrested.
“I don’t remember what the policeman yelled at me,” said Alwyn, “but they yelled.”
He left his mischievous past behind to become a professional actor, with roles in major films such as “The Favourite” (2018) and “Kinds of Kindness” (2024), and also contributed to two Swift albums during their romance from 2017 to 2023.
Alwyn, who is one of many ex-boyfriends rumored to have inspired her work, broke his silence in June about the relationship ending — and told The Times of London at the time that while he feels “good,” the breakup was a genuinely “hard thing to navigate.”

Taylor Swift’s Ex Shares Bloody Childhood Prank That Left His Neighbors ‘In Tears’In a shocking revelation, Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend recently shared a childhood prank that left his neighbors in tears – literally. The former flame, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted a bloody prank he pulled when he was just a teenager.
According to him, he and his friends decided to fake a gruesome injury by covering themselves in fake blood and acting like they had been in a serious accident. The prank quickly escalated, with the neighbors calling emergency services and rushing to their aid. Little did they know, it was all just a cruel joke.
The ex-boyfriend admitted that the prank went too far and he deeply regrets it now. He apologized to everyone involved and emphasized that it was a foolish mistake made in his youth.
As for Taylor Swift, she has yet to comment on the incident. But one thing’s for sure – this ex’s childhood prank definitely left his neighbors in tears, both literally and figuratively.

Joe Alwyn’s Neighbors Called Police on Him as Kid When He Pranked Them with Blood-Soaked Letter
Joe Alwyn was a prankster as a kid.
The Brutalist actor, 33, revealed on The Drew Barrymore Show that he once pulled a prank on his neighbors that landed him and his older brother a visit from police officers. When asked about the “funniest thing” someone has “yelled” at him, Alwyn detailed the story.
“When I was about 8 years old I thought it would be a fun idea to prank the neighbors. And I wrote some letters. They were pranky but they were of the threatening-pranky kind, and they were dipped in fake blood from a toy store.”
Alwyn then shared that he “ran up and down the road” with his brother and put the letters in their neighbor’s mailboxes. He joked, “Prank done, achieved! Great!” However, Alwyn said it wasn’t so simple after that, as a neighbor called his parents asking about the letter and things escalated.

“The street … was quickly filled with the entire neighborhood in tears and screaming and worried and, understandably, they had called the police and Scotland Yard was on its way,” he recalled. “Police cars turned up on the road cause they’ve got a killer to catch!”
“By this point I’m thinking I’m going to jail,” he continued. “About three policemen came into the house, we had to confess to our crime, and they stood over me and my brother, and because he’s 18 months older … he was the one that took the brunt of it.”
The actor added, “I don’t remember what the policeman yelled at me but they yelled.”
Earlier this week, the Kinds of Kindness star made his first-ever appearance on a late-night talk show, Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote his new film The Brutalist, where he plays the son of wealthy industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren (Guy Pearce).

On the show, Meyers, 51, praised Alwyn’s performance in the film — which also stars Adrien Brody as a Hungarian Jewish architect — before asking him how he was “feeling so far” on his first appearance on a late-night talk show.
“Awful,” responded Alwyn, causing the audience to laugh. He then paused and smiled before telling Meyers, “No, it’s great. I’m joking.”
Alwyn has primarily kept his private life and romance out of the spotlight over the years. Following his high-profile breakup with Taylor Swift after six years of dating, a source told PEOPLE that Alwyn was “doing well” and was “focused on work,” splitting his time between “London and N.Y.C.”
Speaking about how he deals with the spotlight, he told The Guardian in a recent interview that he tries to “focus on the things that are meaningful for me: friends, family, work, of course.”
The Brutalist is in theaters now.
Joe Alwyn, the British actor known for his roles in films like “The Favourite” and “Mary Queen of Scots,” recently revealed a hilarious childhood prank that landed him in hot water with his neighbors.During a recent interview, Alwyn shared that when he was a kid, he decided to play a prank on his neighbors by sending them a blood-soaked letter. The prank went awry when his neighbors mistook the letter for a serious threat and called the police.
Alwyn explained that he had used red food coloring to create the illusion of blood on the letter, thinking it would be a harmless and funny joke. However, his neighbors didn’t see the humor in it and called the authorities.
Thankfully, the police quickly realized it was just a prank and no charges were pressed against Alwyn. The actor admitted that he learned his lesson and never attempted a similar prank again.
It seems like Joe Alwyn’s mischievous side may have gotten him into trouble as a kid, but it’s all in good fun now as he looks back on the incident with a sense of humor.

Steve Guttenberg in 2024
Steve Guttenberg’s Pacific Palisades home survived the Los Angeles wildfires — but new winds are leaving it vulnerable once again, and he’s doing what he can to keep his neighborhood safe as the fire rages on.
“At this time I have the choice of sitting down and walking or standing up and doing what I can. I choose to stand and fight. And help,” the Police Academy star and author tells PEOPLE exclusively.
A source says Guttenberg, 66, who confirmed to the Associated Press on Friday, Jan. 10. that his house survived the initial blazes, has banded together with several neighbors whose homes also made it.
“They are having meals together, working on getting brush out of the way, trying to put out smoldering fires, and fighting embers in the air,” the source says, adding, “They have been getting food and necessities, portable heaters, water, through rapid relief groups and sharing everything, and basically are taking care of each other.”
The source notes that with the rising winds, things are getting scary again.
“Today the winds are kicking up so he’s trying to clear and clean up as much as possible in the neighborhood. It’s really a game of wait and see.”
The actor, who made headlines when he was seen on the news helping others evacuate from the Palisades on Jan. 7, later recalled witnessing at least 20 homes burned “pretty bad” in his neighborhood when he returned after evacuating.
The actor compared the tragedy he witnessed over the last couple of days to a sudden death.
“It’s like when someone dies suddenly,” he told the AP. “It’s like when someone gets hit by a car. You never expect that to happen. That’s how shocking it was.”

Speaking with KTLA on Jan. 7, Guttenberg urged people to leave the keys in their cars as they evacuated so it would be easier to move them when emergency vehicles needed to pass.
“What’s happening is people take their keys with them as if they’re in a parking lot. This is not a parking lot. We really need people to move their cars,” he explained to the outlet. “If you leave your car behind, leave the key in there so a guy like me can move your car so that these fire trucks can get up there.”
“There are people stuck up there. So we’re trying to clear Palisades Drive and I’m walking up there as far as I can moving cars,” he added.
