  • ‘Little House on the Prairie’ Series Reboot Set at Netflix


    Netflix has greenlit a new TV adaptation of “Little House on the Prairie,” the beloved book series written by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

    Rebecca Sonnenshine (“The Boys,” “Vampire Diaries,” “Archive 81”) will serve as showrunner and executive producer on the new series. Joy Gorman Wettels of Joy Coalition will also executive produce along with Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions, Dana Fox, and Susanna Fogel. CBS Studios and Anonymous Content Studios will produce for Netflix. Friendly is the son of Ed Friendly, who executive produced the original “Little House on the Prairie” TV series.

    “’Little House on the Prairie’ has captured the hearts and imaginations of so many fans around the world, and we’re excited to share its enduring themes of hope and optimism with a fresh take on this iconic story,” said Jinny Howe, vice president of drama series for Netflix. “Rebecca’s vision threads the needle with an emotional depth that will delight both new and existing fans of this beloved classic.”

    The official logline for the new series states: “Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West, this fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical ‘Little House’ books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”

    Ingalls Wilder released eight “Little House” books in the 1930s and ’40s, while a ninth was published posthumously in 1971. The books are based on her childhood in the American Midwest in the late 1800s. More than 73 million copies of the books have been sold to date.

    The books were then adapted into the incredibly popular NBC series “Little House on the Prairie,” which aired for nine seasons and over 200 episodes between 1974 and 1983. Three made-for-TV “Little House” movies were released after the series, and the show’s appeal has endured long after it ended. Nielsen recently reported that the original series was one of the most-streamed library titles of 2024, garnering 13.25 billion viewing minutes on Peacock over the course of the year.

    “I fell deeply in love with these books when I was five years old,” said Sonnenshine. “They inspired me to become a writer and a filmmaker, and I am honored and thrilled to be adapting these stories for a new global audience with Netflix.”

    Sonnenshine is repped by UTA, Circle Management + Production, and Hansen Jacobson.

    “It has been a long-held dream of mine to carry on my father’s legacy and adapt Wilder’s classic American stories for a 21st century audience in a way that brings together fans of both the books and the original television series,” Friendly added. “I am thrilled by our talented creative team led by Rebecca Sonnenshine who are bringing these beloved stories about family, community, and survival to long-time fans and new generations.”

    With this series order, Netflix has now commissioned three Western frontier series in the past few years. Most recently, the streamer released the limited drama “American Primeval” starring Taylor Kitsch and Betty Gilpin. The streamer is also prepping the Western drama “The Abandons,” although series creator and showrunner Kurt Sutter exited the project back in October with a few weeks left on the shooting schedule. Filming was completed, but no premiere date for the series has been set at the time of this publishing.

    Netflix also previously released the Western limited series “Godless” in 2017, with that show receiving 12 Emmy nominations with three wins.

    Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House books, beloved by children (and former children) of many generations, are based on her own tales of growing up in the American West in the 1800s. Written during the Great Depression and first published in the 1930s, Wilder’s stories were adapted into the hit TV series Little House on the Prairie, which ran for nearly a decade in the 1970s and into the ’80s. Now a new generation will have its own version with Netflix’s reimagining of the treasured novels. 

    Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys, The Vampire Diaries, Archive 81), is shepherding the new series as showrunner and executive producer. And, like everyone before her who became engrossed in the adventures of the Ingalls family, Sonnenshine is a lifelong fan.

  • ‘Little House on the Prairie’ Reboot Coming to Netflix


    The 19th century Ingalls family is getting a 21st century TV life.

    Netflix has ordered a Little House on the Prairie series, 40-plus years after a long-running adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved books aired its last episode on NBC. The new version comes from showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys, The Vampire Diaries).

    “Little House on the Prairie has captured the hearts and imaginations of so many fans around the world, and we’re excited to share its enduring themes of hope and optimism with a fresh take on this iconic story,” said Jinny Howe, vp drama series for Netflix. “Rebecca’s vision threads the needle with an emotional depth that will delight both new and existing fans of this beloved classic.”

    The new take on Little House will be, per Netflix, “part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West” that will serve up a “kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”

    Sonnenshine will executive produce Little House with Joy Gorman Wettels of Joy Coalition, Trip Friendly of Friendly Family Productions, Dana Fox and Susanna Fogel. The show comes from CBS Studios and Anonymous Content Studios. Trip Friendly is the son of Ed Friendly, who held rights to Wilder’s novels and was an executive producer of the original series. The show ran from 1974-83 and spawned several follow-up TV movies.

    A Little House reboot has been in the works for several years — Anonymous Content and what was then Paramount TV Studios began work on the project in 2020. Wettels, Friendly and Fox have been attached as executive producers from the beginning.

    “It has been a long-held dream of mine to carry on my father’s legacy and adapt Wilder’s classic American stories for a 21st century audience in a way that brings together fans of both the books and the original television series,” said Friendly. “I am thrilled by our talented creative team led by Rebecca Sonnenshine who are bringing these beloved stories about family, community, and survival to longtime fans and new generations.”

    The original series, which streams on Peacock, remains popular: Nielsen said in its year-end streaming release that U.S. viewers watched more than 13 billion minutes of Little House on the Prairie in 2024.

    The original series starred Michael Landon (who was also an exec producer and directed more than 80 episodes), Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson and Sidney and Rachel Greenbush as the Ingalls family. Katherine MacGregor, Richard Bull, Jonathan Gilbert, Alison Arngrim, Matthew Labyorteaux and Dean Bell also had regular or heavily recurring roles.

  • Kate Hudson Stars in Netflix Basketball Comedy


    Netflix is welcoming you to the family business.

    In the trailer for the new series Running Point released Thursday, Kate Hudson stars as Isla Gordon, the new appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves basketball franchise. Being thrown into the job after a scandal forces her brother (Justin Theroux) to resign, Hudson’s Isla has to work on proving her skeptical family, the board and sports community that she is adept for the job.

    “I work in a family business for the greatest basketball franchise in the history of the game, the Los Angeles Waves. And this is the story of the fucked-up family that runs it,” Hudson can be overheard saying in the trailer.

    Throughout the rest of the teaser, Hudson has to prove herself against the naysayers, some of which describe her as a “Nepo baby” who doesn’t know what she’s doing. Despite the doubts, Husdon’s Isla is determined for the team to make the playoffs and succeed.

    “On behalf of all women, don’t ever make a mistake. Looks bad for all of us,” Brenda Strong tells Hudson as she prepares for her new role.

    The 10-episode series, which is described as putting a “bold twist on the underdog comedy,” also stars Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Jay Ellis and Max Greenfield.

    David Stassen is the showrunner with  Mindy Kaling and Ike Barinholtz joining him as writers and executive producers. Hudson, Howard Klein (3 Arts Entertainment), Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis also exec produce and Jordan Rambis produces.

    The series is produced by Mindy Kaling’s Kaling International in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling is under an overall deal.

Television, where she has an overall deal.

  • Ginny & Georgia Season 3 Sets June Release Date on Netflix


    The wait for season 3 of Ginny & Georgia is almost over!

    On Thursday, Jan. 30, Netflix announced the third season of the hit teen drama series will premiere on June 5. The story will pick up right after last season’s cliffhanger.

    “Georgia (Brianne Howey) has just been arrested for murder during her wedding — ruining her fairy tale ending and putting the spotlight on the Millers like never before,” the official synopsis reads. “It’s always been Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and Georgia against the world, but the world has never come for them quite like this.” 

    The description continues: “Now, Ginny needs to see where she stands when push comes to shove – is the two of them against the world something Ginny really wants to sign up for?”

    In the first-look images from the upcoming season, Georgia is behind bars, with a worried look on her face, and in the other, Ginny and her younger brother Austin (Diesel La Torraca) sit in what appears to be a courtroom with stern faces, likely awaiting news from their mom’s trial.

    As fans may recall, the final episode of the show’s second season ended with Georgia Miller being arrested for the murder of Cynthia Fuller (Sabrina Grdevich)’s husband in the middle of her wedding reception. She was then taken away by the police as her new husband Paul (Scott Porter) and children — Ginny and Austin — watched.

    The series creator Sarah Lampert told PEOPLE in January 2023 that the surprise ending was planned from the beginning.

    “How we pitched season 1 and then how we ended our pitch of season 2 was, ‘Then Georgia’s married to Paul, they’re having their first dance, and she’s arrested for murder,’” she recalled. “So it was always the plan.”

    As for what’s to come in season 3, Lampert teased “all of the dominoes have been set up as far back as season 1.”

    As for Georgia’s children Ginny and Austin, they will struggle in the aftermath of their mother’s arrest, according to Lampert.

    “Ginny also has a lot of guilt associated with actions that her mother has done,” she explained. “We see that conversation with her in Cordova, in the coffee shop, where he’s like, ‘If this happens again, it’s on you. You’re protecting your mom, and she plays God. If she hurts someone else, this one’s on you.’ That’s something Ginny’s going to have to grapple with.”

    Lampert added Austin will wrestle with his emotions after witnessing his mother’s murder “because that is unarguably a traumatic thing for a little boy to witness.”

    Earlier this month, Howey, 35, told PEOPLE that the upcoming season of Ginny & Georgia is “unhinged.”

    “I’m blown away that the writers are still able to show us completely new sides of each character, and that’s what you’re going to see in season 3,” she gushed.

    “You will see a lot of grit and hustle, but in an entirely new way. Georgia has to dig deeper into a part of herself we haven’t seen yet,” she added. “So, she has to use that grit in all new ways.”

    When it comes to Georgia and her daughter Ginny’s “ever-changing relationship,” the actress also explained that fans will begin to see “new similarities between them as well as enormous differences.”

    Netflix has added season 2 of The Recruit, which again stars Noah Centineo as young CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks, who is thrown into a new daredevil mission in South Korea.

    Yes, rather than doing the normal TV thing of placing an FBI agent at the heart of the action like the gigantic hit The Night Agent, the first series of The Recruit took the quirky decision to stick a lawyer into a conspiracy thriller.

    That decision split audiences and critics, with viewers giving it an 84% Rotten Tomatoes score while it only managed a 68% critic score. The Roger Ebert review described watching Owen navigating Langley as being “about as much fun as paperwork”. However, many viewers liked its “tongue-in-cheek style” and became hooked by a “fantastic show”.

    Watching The Recruit we think if you like the central character then you’re likely to find yourself being quickly immersed in the first series and now the second season has dropped on Netflix, which will come just at the right time for loads of people who’ve crashed through The Night Agent season 2. OK, spoilers ahead if you’ve not seen season 1.

    The spy drama’s new six-part run picks up up straight after season’s 1 finale, with Owen kidnapped by Nichka, aka Karolina (Maddie Hasson), the daughter of rogue Russian asset Max Meladze (Laura Haddock) whom he thought was dead. But after a last-minute rescue operation and orders to stay put in his office, the stakes continue to rise for the risk-loving lawyer when a cryptic note from Korea lands on his desk. Owen convinces his boss Walter Nyland (Vondie Curtis-Hall) to send him to Seoul, where he lived as a child when his father was stationed there.

    “Owen’s headspace is in complete chaos after witnessing Max, the former CI asset who he almost died multiple times trying to protect, get shot by her daughter,” says Noah Centineo. “But while Korea carries a heavy weight for him. It also brings back sweet memories from his childhood. It’s fertile ground for the vicious and life-threatening fun Owen loves to find himself in the middle of.”

    The plot sees Owen team up with South Korean National Intelligence Service agent Jang Kyun (Teo Yoo) and he begins to suspect there could be a threat within the CIA itself. A string of new characters are introduced in season 2 including intelligence officer Grace (Young-Ah Kim), senior US diplomat Tom Wallace (Felix Solis) and businessman Oliver Bonner-Jones (James Purefoy).

    The Recruit seasons 1 and 2 are on Netflix globally now.
