The Night Agent season 1 is a political thriller centered around Peter Sutherland (Basso), a low-level FBI agent who works in a secretive White House crisis room. His job is to monitor an emergency phone line for spies, but it rarely rings. That is, until one night when he receives a call that sets off a chain of events that plunges him into a conspiracy involving high-ranking officials.
As Peter tries to uncover the truth behind the mysterious call, he teams up with Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), a tech entrepreneur whose aunt and uncle were recently murdered. Together, they uncover a deep cover-up that threatens national security, forcing Peter to navigate a dangerous world of deceit and betrayal.
In the second season, Peter and Rose face a fresh danger: a chemical weapons attack aimed at Midtown Manhattan. The storyline explores global conspiracies, with Peter grappling with difficult moral choices and personal sacrifices. At the end of the season you will see that Peter makes a difficult choice that affects his future.
Snow joined the cast as Alice, Peter’s partner. Alice and Peter are chasing Sears‘ character of Warren, a high-level intelligence officer and a pilot who sold classified information to a wealthy buyer in exchange for a better future for his son, in Bangkok.
Shooting on season three began filming in Istanbul at the end of 2024 and will begin filming again in New York City soon.
Basso has spoken at length about how he likes to do his own stunts, “I think that can kind of get misconstrued into the world of, like, I do it because I want to say I can do it, and it’s really not about that,” he explained on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “To me, it’s about audience immersion. I don’t want the audiences watching the show, and then right as I’m about to get hit or hip tossed or thrown on my back, you know. I feel like it’s a lie. I enjoy acting. I don’t like lying. There’s just a difference. And for the sake of audience immersion, for the sake of believability, they like Peter [and] to watch him take hits is important, I feel like. And if that requires me to get tossed into a wall, then fine. It’s not the end of the world,” he added.

It’s hard to imagine how any sports comedy could emulate the success of Ted Lasso. Well, Netflix looks to be hoping to do just that by swapping soccer for basketball in the new trailer for sports comedy series Running Point.
Netflix has taken a leaf out of Ted Lasso’s book and created a new female boss in the sports industry. Running Point stars Kate Hudson as Isla Gordon, who is unexpectedly appointed the head of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most famous professional basketball franchises in the US.
In the new trailer (see below), ambitious and fiery Isla fights to prove she’s the right person for the job, despite facing backlash from her male colleagues. From just watching the trailer, Running Point shares a similar humor and feel-good vibe to the hugely popular series Ted Lasso. Hey, I can’t complain, it looks like a perfect watch while I wait for a rumored fourth season of the best Apple TV Plus show.
In Running Point, when Isla’s brother is forced to resign as president of the Los Angeles Waves, she’s chosen to take over his role. Constantly overlooked by others, Isla must navigate the male-dominated world of sports and prove to her dubious brothers, the board, and the sports community that she’s up for the job.
It’s no illusion that the Mindy Kaling-created series has similarities to Ted Lasso, as Running Point has already been accused of copying its concept. According to The News in August 2024, it was reported that Ted Lasso creator and leading star Jason Sudeikis was “unimpressed with the similarities” between Running Point and his critically acclaimed show, which is about an American football coach that’s brought in to manage a British soccer team.
An insider close to the actor reportedly told the publication: “When Ted Lasso took off, it was such an offbeat, optimistic and wacky show that Jason legitimately believed it would be impossible to imitate. For a while there, he was right.
“Little did Jason know that pretty much the second Lasso ended production, there would be copycats popping up like weeds on the various streaming services. The copycat that particularly bugs him is Netflix’s sports comedy Running Point, which has completed shooting and which will roll out next year.”
We’ll have to wait and see if Running Point will become one of the best Netflix shows when it debuts on the best streaming service on February 27.

Adam Sandler has some help on the golf course in Netflix’s newly released look at its upcoming comedy sequel Happy Gilmore 2.
The streaming service shared a new sneak-peek image from the forthcoming film on Thursday, coinciding with the company sharing its plans for movie, TV and game projects in the coming year. In director Kyle Newacheck’s sequel, Sandler reprises his role as the titular unlikely golf sensation that he originated in Universal’s 1996 film Happy Gilmore. Filming for the project wrapped last month.

As seen in the new still below, Sandler is ready to take one of his character’s signature golf swings while getting caddy assistance from Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, also known as singer Bad Bunny. Another image, which is above, shows Sandler facing off with longtime rival Shooter McGavin, with actor Christopher McDonald reprising his role from the initial movie.
A premise has not yet been released for the film, which Netflix announced Thursday is set to debut later this year. (Sandler previously hinted at a possible summer release.) Other castmembers for Happy Gilmore 2 include Julie Bowen, Margaret Qualley, Travis Kelce, Conor Sherry, Ethan Cutowsky, Maxwell Jacob Friedman and Philip Fine Schneider. Dennis Dugan, who directed the original film and executive produces the sequel, will have a role in the new movie as well.

Returning to produce the sequel are Sandler, Tim Herlihy, Robert Simonds and Jack Giarraputo. Sandler and Herlihy wrote the screenplay for Happy Gilmore 2 after having penned the original film’s script.
During an interview with the Dan Patrick Show that aired last month, Sandler admitted to feeling pressure to live up to the first film.
“It’s on your mind,” the star said at the time. “We’ve got a lot of good stuff, and we just want to make sure that it all comes together and keeps it going from start to finish, and that’s the goal. We’ll see. We’re definitely nervous, but we feel some sort of confidence.”

Western shows are one of the most popular genres on streaming services, but it can often be quite difficult to do them well, especially in their more modern iterations. Classic Western movies, like many of those starring John Wayne or Clint Eastwood, paired well with the original great Western shows, like Gunsmoke, Bonanza, or The Lone Ranger. Now, a new revival of the Western genre has become increasingly popular over the last decade. As a result, streaming services like Netflix and Paramount+ are eager to add exciting new titles to the mix.
Unsurprisingly, there have been some great modern Westerns released recently, and several of them are thanks to Taylor Sheridan. Sheridan’s series Yellowstone can be seen as one of the first shows to really capitalize on the revitalization of the Western genre, and in many ways directly influenced all the Western shows that have come since. Not only was Yellowstone itself a success, but Sheridan also expanded the show’s universe by creating spin-off shows. It is this success for Paramount+ that services like Netflix are chasing through shows like its recent addition, American Primeval.
Immediately following its January 2025 release, American Primeval has become one of Netflix’s most popular shows to date, and certainly its most popular Western. The series centers on the competition for land and power among several groups during the Utah War in the 1850s. While some of the characters and the plot points are fictional, many of the events that happen in the show and the people who play a big role in them were real people involved in the foundation of Utah, making the series even more interesting.

Netflix recently released a new Western TV series that, unfortunately, highlights what exactly has gone wrong for Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone.
What makes American Primeval work so well is precisely its ability to blend American history with fictional characters that audiences can’t help but root for. The show also does not shy away from the real horrors of the time, presenting Utah as an often violent and dark place. Though the series only holds a moderate 67% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences enjoyed American Primeval much more, as is evident from its 88% approval rating and appearance on Netflix’s top charts. Its success could point to Netflix pushing for more Westerns in the future as well.
Though American Primeval is now the most popular of Netflix’s Western shows, the streaming service actually released an even better Western eight years ago. The series Godless premiered on Netflix in November 2017, and it was met with critical acclaim. While American Primeval‘s reviews are not bad by any means, Godless‘s reviews are overwhelmingly positive. The series currently holds an 83% critics approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it was nominated for 12 Emmy Awards and won three.
Compared to many Western shows where the women characters often feel like second thoughts, Godless shines because of its large cast of complex female characters.
The series takes place in 1884 in New Mexico when an outlaw, Roy, decides to rebel against his former boss because his violence has gone too far. Roy arrives in a town called La Belle, which creates an interesting and unusual divergence from normal Westerns because the town is almost exclusively made up of women. Compared to many Western shows where the women characters often feel like second thoughts, Godless shines because of its large cast of complex female characters. Beyond the great performances, the series’ plot is well-paced and perfectly self-contained.
Despite Godless‘s critical acclaim and American Primeval‘s success with audiences, Netflix has still not managed to find the same success with its Westerns as Paramount+ has with those of Taylor Sheridan. The biggest problem with the service’s current Westerns is that they don’t have any multi-year shows and little potential for spin-offs, which is no easy feat to begin with. While American Primeval could return for another season given its popularity, the deaths of many characters would make it challenging and the next season could still be several years away.

American Primeval‘s ending saw many of the most popular characters die, and many of those that remained alive were cast out onto the road again. While it could be possible to regrow the cast around the remaining characters, it does seem like the show was meant to conclude its story after one season. Instead, it seems more likely that Netflix will learn from the audience demand for more shows like American Primeval and work to develop a Western series with further potential for the show’s plot and characters to extend beyond one season, much to the delight of Western fans.
If you’re a fan of Netflix’s new hit western series, it’s time to take a trip down memory lane and revisit one of the streamer’s underrated gems from 8 years ago. While the new show may be making waves globally, it’s important not to forget about the older series that has a far better Rotten Tomatoes score.

If it isn’t Cameron Diaz, back in the spotlight, championing Netflix’s latest number one movie – Back In Action – which has flown up the charts since its 17 January release date. She stars alongside Jamie Foxx in an A-list production that Netflix produced with a $70 million budget.
What’s particularly interesting, however, is that Diaz has been absent from our screens for over a decade. Her previous movie, Annie, was released back in 2014 – and not to a particularly warm reception. But Diaz is now well and truly back in the game, with Outcome in post-production for a future release, and she’ll reprise her role in Shrek 5 for 2026 too according to IMDB!
Back In Action isn’t referring to Diaz’s Hollywood hiatus so much as its own storyline though: Emily (Diaz) and Matt (Foxx) are former CIA spies, thrown back into a world of espionage as their identities are exposed. That proves a big problem for the fact that their young kids – Alice (McKenna Roberts) and Leo (Rylan Jackson) – are also on the scene and need to be protected.
While Netflix often proves itself among the best streaming services, putting its hand to creating all manner of movies and shows, Back In Action may have proved popular so far – but the ratings are abysmal. The Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score is a mere 23%, but viewers are riding the action-comedy fun wave with more enjoyment – scoring it 64% on average (at the time of writing).
The reviews are very mixed, to say the least, though. One laments “Acting looks like a C grade home made movie,” supported by another’s comment that “Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz should just retire already”. Others disagree, though, calling Jamie and Cameron “amazing”. Those movies where viewers can’t agree are sometimes quiet winners.
Back In Action is directed by Seth Gordon, known for Horrible Bosses and Baywatch, so if those movies have captured your interest in the recent past then it’s worth giving Diaz and Foxx a shot – and just strapping in for the ride. Don’t expect anything out of the ordinary or groundbreaking here, but sometimes that’s just what the doctor ordered. And it’s great to see Diaz back on screen.

The LEGO Group has done it yet again! LEGO, Netflix, and Tomorrow Studios are collaborating on an epic LEGO collection to bring the Netflix live-action series One Piece to brick-life. So fans of the uber-popular construction toy and the Straw Hat Pirates should come aboard and bring along all their hopes and dreams to score some collectibles!
On January 23, 2025, Lena Dixen, Senior Vice President for Core Businesses at the LEGO Group, shared that this would be the first time LEGO and the popular anime would join hands. The One Piece LEGO world was built on the inspiration of the Netflix live-action adaptation and Dixen shared that designing the collection was immensely exciting, albeit challenging. Lena Dixen teased that the collection will embody the grand adventure that the long-running franchise is so well-known for. The Vice President of Consumer Products at Netflix, Josh Simon, also expressed the company’s excitement over the LEGO and One Piece collaboration. Simon teased what to expect from the highly anticipated and historic collaboration in the following words:
“Through every detail of the design process, we’ve worked to meticulously create a collection of playsets that will give fans new ways to live out their own epic voyages into the Grand Line one special brick at a time.”
Based on Eiichiro Oda’s legendary and beloved manga series, One Piece Season 1 spent eight weeks at the #1 spot in Netflix’s Global Top 10 Shows across 46 countries after its debut. Hopefully, however, it’s safe to ay that the LEGO and One Piece collaboration will probably take fans through East Blue with iconic moments and scenes from the live-action adaptation once again with brand new and exciting LEGO sets! Netflix has added three new cast members to the ensemble for One Piece Season 2. On January 15, 2025, Variety exclusively revealed that Rigo Sanchez, Yonda Thomas, and James Hiroyuki Liao have joined the popular Netflix series. Sanchez will play Dragon, Thomas will play Igaram, and Liao will play Ipponmatsu.
The trio will be joined by returning cast members Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero, Taz Skylar, Ilia Isorelys Paulino, Jeff Ward, and Michael Dorman. One Piece Season 2 will feature additional new faces that include Charithra Chandran, Joe Manganiello, Katey Sagal, Lera Abova, Mark Harelik, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Brendan Sean Murray, Callum Kerr, Camrus Johnson, Clive Russell, Daniel Lasker, David Dastmalchian, Jazzara Jaslyn, Julia Rehwald, Rob Colletti, Ty Keogh, and Werner Coetser.
The series follows young adventurer Monkey D. Luffy, played by Godoy, who has always longed for a life of freedom. He sets out searching for the legendary fabled treasure, One Piece, to become King of the Pirates. But to do so, he has to assemble a crew and find a ship to sail, “searching every inch of the vast seas, outpacing the Marines, and outwitting dangerous rivals at every turn.”
Netflix has yet to announce a release date for One Piece Season 2. In the meantime, you can stream the show’s previous season on Netflix.

Jamie Foxx’s glorious return from his health scare continues, as the actor’s new film, Back In Action, has become one of Netflix’s biggest film debuts in years.
On Tuesday (Jan. 21), Variety reported that Back In Action, Foxx’s comedic action-thriller co-starring Cameron Diaz, amassed 46.8 million views in just three days following its release last Friday (Jan. 17).
This makes Back In Action the most successful English-language film release on Netflix since The Adam Project, which premiered on the platform in March 2022.

Back in Action finds Foxx playing opposite Diaz in the role of CIA spies who left the field to start a family together, but are forced to rely on old tactics after their cover is blown.
Featuring a cast that includes Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction) Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers), Jamie Demetriou (Barbie), McKenna Roberts (Skyscraper), and Rylan Jackson (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), Back In Action marks Foxx and Diaz’s third film together.
The reunion is one that the Academy Award winner says he has been looking forward to for years.

“A lot of people don’t know this, but after Cameron and I did Any Given Sunday and Annie together, we became friends in real life — and I’ve been begging her to come play with me again,” said Foxx, who also served as an executive producer of Back In Action.
“We all know there’s just something about her…,” the jokester added, referencing Diaz’s popular 1998 film, There’s Something About Mary.
Back In Action marks Jamie Foxx’s second Netflix release since being hospitalized after falling ill in April 2023. In December 2024, the Texas native released the Netflix comedy special, What Had Happened Was, his first stand-up film in over two decades.

XO, Kitty, Netflix’s spinoff of Jenny Han’s megahit rom-com film series To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, returned for a second season last week to great fanfare, vaulting toward the top of Netflix’s Top 10 list. The show follows the younger sister of To All the Boys protagonist Lara Jean, Kitty Song-Covey (Anna Cathcart), as she attends high school in Korea and deals with the ups and downs of teenage romance and self-discovery. Season 1, which aired in 2023, ended on a cliff-hanger that saw one of Kitty’s friends, Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee), dramatically confess his love to our titular character on a plane as she headed back to America, under the pretense that her time at the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS) was coming to an end. What Min Ho was unaware of was that Kitty had recently had the revelation that she is bisexual, spurred by her developing a massive crush on their mutual friend Yuri (Gia Kim—ironically, Lee’s real-life sister).
Between potential love interests Yuri, Min Ho, and Kitty’s previous boyfriend Dae (Choi Min-young), it seemed as if XO, Kitty had fully embraced the classic teen-soap trope of characters dating exclusively within the same friend group. You know what I mean: By the end of Riverdale, All American, 90210, Gossip Girl, and so many other teen dramas, every possible combination of couple that could be made between the main cast of characters had already been explored. (In Riverdale, this was even aided by an alternative-universe plotline in which the unlikely couple of Veronica and Jughead were able to get together.) Though some shows do include outside love interests—for example, the beloved Vampire Diaries’ story of Caroline and newcomer “original hybrid” Klaus, or One Tree Hill’s late-stage introduction to Brooke’s eventual husband Julian—it’s rare that these characters stick. Often, they are ushered in after the show is finished depicting the high school years, when the characters are thrust into adulthood. Or, even if some characters do decide to date outside their friend group during high school, the relationship is often treated merely as a pit stop on the way to the final in-group soulmate.
But then, refreshingly, XO, Kitty appeared to be on the verge of bucking this and other tropes. In the trailer for Season 2, we see Kitty expressing a desire to 1) date outside the friend group, and 2) date girls besides Yuri—both desires that seemed to confirm that Min Ho’s Season 1 confession had been met with rejection. It was a breath of fresh air to see Kitty prioritize these goals because, while plenty of narratives may include bisexual characters these days, it’s still rare to see a protagonist on-screen coming of age and actually exploring what that means for them. This move would have beautifully cemented Kitty’s sexuality as more than a plot device to make her more diverse or to push her together with one specific character. Her being bisexual would have been a real part of her identity and an important piece of the puzzle in understanding how she moves through the world.
But XO, Kitty fumbled the bag. Kitty gets a new love interest outside her friend group in the form of Praveena (Sasha Bhasin), a quintessential cool girl who helps Kitty get out of a tough spot in the first episode. Over the following episodes, they grow closer, though Kitty’s still-lingering somewhat-secret crush on Yuri threatens to get in the way of their budding romance. This all implodes during Episode 4 (one of the best of the season), when the existence (and strength) of Kitty’s crush on Yuri comes to light for some of her friends. Just like that, after two failed dates and a smattering of scenes together, Kitty and Praveena are done. For the rest of the season, Kitty’s crush on Yuri subsides as she tries to focus on the subplot of finding her Korean family, only for Kitty to circle back, by the end, to the earlier idea of her and Min Ho as a couple. It’s sort of ironic—if Kitty wanted to talk to the same five people, she could have stayed home. But, try as you might, you can never escape the magnetic pull of the TV-friend-group love interest.
I do get why this trope exists. The entire point of teen soaps is to exploit the drama between members of the main group; after all, they’re the characters that we’re interested in, not some random stranger. But after years of watching televised friend groups become so romantically intertwined that mapping their connections would look like the world’s most confusing murder evidence board, I’m tired. I want my favorite protagonists to try dating someone, literally anyone, else! It’s a good opportunity to see these dramatized teenagers learn more about themselves and the world around them. And Kitty, it seemed, was on her way to doing just that earlier this season. Watching her venture out from her bubble felt a little radical; her budding romance with Praveena was a great chance for Kitty to exit the drama-laden ecosystem of dating her friends and explore more of herself, her sexuality, and whatever social differences exist between dating girls, boys, and everyone in between. Secretly, I do want Kitty to run to Min Ho and profess her undying love by the end of the series, but let her get some time in the outside world first. How else is she, a character in desperate need of some growth, supposed to obtain it when she’s constantly fielding the fallout of breaking up with someone, only to then fall in love with their best friend? More important, it would be a shame if her crush on Yuri is all the series had to show for Kitty’s bisexuality.
I shouldn’t be surprised by this letdown. XO, Kitty is notorious for being as annoying as it is irresistible. Season 2 was no exception, filled with ups (Noah Centineo reprising his role as Peter Kavinsky!) and downs (where did Teacher Alex go?). Kitty’s dating history and sexuality was one area with narrative risk that the show had seemed primed to take on. And, sure, while my heart may be cheering on the eventual Kitty–Min Ho coupling that seems inevitable at this point, I would love to see our girl put herself out there even more first. There’s a whole world beyond the people she already knows.

By focusing solely on looks, “Love at First Sight” sends the message that superficial qualities are more important than deeper connections.
While the show may be entertaining to watch, it’s important for viewers to remember that real-life relationships require more than just a spark of attraction. By prioritizing meaningful connections and compatibility over instant chemistry, we can build stronger and more fulfilling relationships that stand the test of time.
