Brooklyn Nets vs. Houston Rockets preview: Is Houston a model for Brooklyn?
Well that was impressive. The Brooklyn Nets were on the road Wednesday night to face the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets didn’t put up a fight and the Nets cruised to a 21 point victory. Not much more to it then that.
The opponent tonight has been one of the biggest surprises in the NBA this season. The Houston Rockets have been magnificent this season and have a great chance of securing homecourt advantage in the first round. They went down to the wire against the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday night, but fell one point short.
Where to follow the game
YES Network on TV. WFAN on radio. Tip after 8 PM.
Injuries
No Cam Thomas, Cam Johnson, De’Anthony Melton, Maxwell Lewis, Bogan Bogdanovic, or Noah Clowney. Dariq Whitehead is back with Long Island.
Jabari Smith is out with a left metacarpal fracture. Alperen Sengun is questionable with a left calf contusion.
The game
Are the Rockets ahead of schedule? Coming into the season, Ime Udoka’s guys weren’t expected to be major players. However, they’ve been better than even the most optimistic Rocket fan could have predicted. Houston has a bright, bright future and they have the room to do just about anything they set their minds to as we head into the trade deadline and beyond.
Someone who’s a big part of that vision is Amen Thompson. He’s been on a great roll in recent weeks, and he’s been a multiplying force for his teammates. Over at The Dream Shake, Nick Stevenson made note of Thompson vis a vis the injured Jabari Smith and said:
The biggest argument against Amen becoming as permanent starter is his lack of 3-point shooting, however the Rockets are shooting nearly 40 percent from the three-point line since Amen has become a starter in Smith Jr.’s absence. His defense leads to fast break points, his penetration into the paint has created open shot opportunities for his teammates when he’s not finishing in the paint at a very high clip.
For as good as he’s been, the super sophomore still has some more miles to go. Udoka talked about that after Thursday’s final possession
Ime Udoka said the final play was drawn up for Amen Thompson. They cut off his path and he kicked it to Fred for the final shot.

Live and learn.
If the Nets want to pull off the upset, they’re going to need a big game out of Nic Claxton. The Rockets are the best rebounding team in the NBA this season and assuming Sengun is back for this game, we’ll be seeing a top ten rebounder in the league this season.
Player to watch: Jalen Green
Is this the year Jalen Green finally puts it all together? We’ve been waiting for a good while for the former number two pick in the 2021 Draft to live up to his potential. He’s still got some ways to go, but he’s coming off of the best month of his young career. In January, Green averaged close to 26 points per game on 47/44/89 shooting splits.
Green keeps showing what he can do. The only question has been can he do it on a consistent basis. Of late that question is being answered in the affirmative and with him, Thompson and Sengun all still only 22 years old, Houston is a problem.
Going forward, the Nets can hopefully do what the Rockets have done, make smart trades for picks, build organically, hire a smart young coach and overall make the right decisions at the right time. The Rockets are way further along on that track.

#Brooklyn #Nets #Houston #Rockets #preview #Houston #model #BrooklynDe’Aaron Fox Trade Talks, Spurs, Heat, Nets, 76ers, Hawks
With De’Aaron Fox having a destination in mind ahead of his 2026 free agency, the Sacramento Kings are listening to trade inquiries on their star point guard and have received numerous calls from teams with interest.
Before the latest news on Fox, Sacramento was trying to upgrade its roster by discussing trades with the Brooklyn Nets for forward Cam Johnson and the Utah Jazz for forward John Collins, league sources told HoopsHype. It’s unclear how Fox’s trade market will affect Sacramento’s discussions for Johnson and Collins.
Sacramento’s most consistent trade discussions had centered around Kevin Huerter, Trey Lyles, and future draft pick compensation, sources said.
The prevailing belief within league circles is that Fox is eyeing the San Antonio Spurs looking ahead toward his free agency.
The Spurs have max cap space for the summer of 2026 as Fox will enter unrestricted free agency.
San Antonio also has young assets in Devin Vassell and Stephon Castle, along with up to nine future first-round picks to dangle.
It’s also worth noting Fox’s wife, Recee, grew up in San Antonio.
With the Spurs outside the Play-In Tournament and franchise cornerstone Victor Wembanyama too good for any potential tanking towards the end of the season, it could be time for San Antonio to pair him with another star sooner than expected.
Another Texas team, the Houston Rockets, has also been linked to Fox.
If Houston exercises its $44.89 million team option on starting point guard Fred VanVleet for the 2025-26 season, he will be eligible for unrestricted free agency by the summer of 2026, when Fox also would hit the market.
The Rockets also have expiring contracts in Steve Adams ($12.6 million), Jeff Green ($8 million), Jae’Sean Tate ($7.57 million), and Jock Landale has a non-guaranteed $8 million salary for the 2025-26 season.
Former No. 3 overall pick Reed Sheppard was also highly coveted before the draft by various teams. Tari Eason and Cam Whitmore are other young, talented players who could thrive with bigger roles elsewhere. The Rockets also have several first-round picks they can dangle, including an unprotected 2027 first-round pick from Phoenix, which is after Kevin Durant is set to hit free agency.
To this point, however, the Rockets signaled a patient approach with its young core that currently holds the second-best record in the West.
The Miami Heat have also been linked to Fox since they have max cap space for the summer of 2026, and center Bam Adebayo was Fox’s roommate at Kentucky as the two have remained close since.
However, Miami doesn’t have much draft capital to dangle in trades. For now, Miami is focused on trading Jimmy Butler.
Lastly, the Brooklyn Nets have prominently been linked to Fox.
Brooklyn has the future max cap space and has up to 12 tradeable future first-round picks they can dangle to pivot in several directions looking ahead. Fox also played for Nets coach Jordi Fernandez, an associate head coach alongside Mike Brown during their time together in Sacramento.
While the Nets have significant trade assets and a clear connection to Fox on paper, acquiring him at the start of a rebuild in the middle of the season with no other stars around him and then having to pay him a max contract in the summer of 2026 doesn’t align with Brooklyn’s rebuilding plan coming into the season.
The latest NBA trade rumors are swirling around Sacramento Kings star point guard De’Aaron Fox, with several teams reportedly interested in acquiring the talented young player. Among those teams are the San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Atlanta Hawks. The Spurs, who are in need of a dynamic playmaker to lead their offense, have reportedly expressed interest in trading for Fox. With DeMar DeRozan’s future in San Antonio uncertain, Fox could be a perfect fit to take over as the team’s primary ball handler.
The Heat, who made a run to the NBA Finals last season, are also said to be eyeing Fox as a potential trade target. Miami has a strong core of players but could use a player like Fox to give them an extra boost in the backcourt.
The Nets, who already have a star-studded roster with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, are rumored to be interested in adding Fox to their lineup. Pairing Fox with Durant and Irving would give Brooklyn a formidable trio that could make them serious contenders for an NBA championship.
The 76ers, who have been looking to upgrade their guard play, are another team that has been linked to Fox in trade talks. With Ben Simmons’s future in Philadelphia uncertain, Fox could be a great fit to pair with Joel Embiid and help the team take the next step towards a championship.
The Hawks, who are a young and up-and-coming team in the Eastern Conference, are also reportedly interested in acquiring Fox. Atlanta already has a talented young core with Trae Young and John Collins, and adding Fox to the mix could make them a force to be reckoned with in the East.
It remains to be seen if any of these teams will be able to pull off a trade for De’Aaron Fox, but it’s clear that there is significant interest in acquiring the talented point guard. Stay tuned for more updates as the NBA trade deadline approaches.

The Nets defeated the Hornets, 116-115, on Nov. 19 in Brooklyn in their first meeting this season after the Hornets won two of their three matchups last year.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET from the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C. The Hornets are favored by 3 points in the latest Hornets vs. Nets odds, according to the SportsLine consensus. Anyone following at sportsbooks and on betting apps could have seen huge returns.

Why the Nets can cover
The Nets enter on a seven-game losing streak, but they did cover twice as they were underdogs in each of those contests. Six of those seven games came against teams currently in the top eight of their conference and the Hornets certainly aren’t in that situation. Charlotte is one of the few teams in the NBA with a worse record than the Nets and the Hornets’ injury situation is just as brutal as Brooklyn’s.
The Nets will be without Cam Thomas (hamstring) and Cameron Johnson (ankle) as their top two leading scorers this season. But the Hornets will also be without some of their top talent, including LaMelo Ball (ankle), Brandon Miller (wrist), Mark Williams (foot) and Tre Mann (back) as four of their top five leading scorers. D’Angelo Russell has led the Nets in scoring in back-to-back games with 19 and 22 points and Jalen Wilson, a second-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, has scored more than 10 points in three straight points as a complimentary piece for Brooklyn. See which team to pick here.
Why the Hornets can cover
With both teams battling significant injuries, the Hornets have the luxury of arguably the best player on the floor in Miles Bridges. The No. 12 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft is averaging 18.9 ppg this season after back-to-back years averaging more than 20 ppg. He had 26 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a 112-107 loss to the Lakers on Monday as he was needed to take on a larger role with Ball only playing nine minutes before suffering his ankle injury. The Hornets pushed in their 5-point spread against Los Angeles.
The Hornets are 28th in the league in scoring but have the 14th-best scoring defense, allowing 112.2 ppg, and a strong defensive effort could be enough to extend Brooklyn’s losing streak. The Nets are 29th in scoring offense (105.5 ppg) and have been held to fewer than 100 points in four straight games and haven’t scored more than 101 points in seven straight contests. The Nets have been abysmal offensively lately and the Hornets defense can capitalize on that on Wednesday. See which team to pick here.
How to make Nets vs. Hornets picks
The model has simulated Hornets vs. Nets 10,000 times and the results are in. We can tell you that the model is leaning Under, and it’s also generated a point-spread pick that is hitting almost 70% of simulations. You can only see the pick at SportsLine.
So who wins Nets vs. Hornets, and which side of the spread hits almost 70% of the time? Visit SportsLine now to see which side of the Hornets vs. Nets spread you need to jump on, all from the model that is on a 140-100 roll on top-rated NBA picks since last season, and find out.
Are you ready for some NBA action? The Brooklyn Nets will face off against the Charlotte Hornets on January 29, and the odds are in favor of the Nets. According to a proven model, the Nets are the favorites to win this matchup. The Nets, led by their superstar duo of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, have been on a roll this season and are currently one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. On the other hand, the Hornets have been struggling a bit and will need to bring their A-game to compete with the Nets.
In terms of the score prediction, the model suggests that the Nets will come out on top with a comfortable lead. The final score is expected to be in favor of the Nets, with a predicted score of 115-105.
If you’re looking to place some bets on this game, the best bets according to the model are to take the Nets to cover the spread and to bet on the over for the total points scored in the game.
So mark your calendars for January 29 and get ready to watch an exciting matchup between the Nets and the Hornets. And if you’re feeling lucky, consider placing a bet on the Nets to come out victorious. Good luck!

Noah Clowney’s recent surge in minutes has also led to more threes for the talented big. Look for the Nets forward to expose the Kings’ lackluster perimeter defense in Brooklyn tonight, per our NBA betting picks.
Photo By – Imagn Images. Noah Clowney in NBA action.
Get set for NBA non-conference action when the Brooklyn Nets welcome the Sacramento Kings to Barclays Center for a Monday night clash.
Brooklyn has lost nine of its previous 10, but my Kings vs. Nets predictions anticipate Brooklyn forward Noah Clowney to continue with his hot hand from downtown.
Read on as I explain my NBA picks for Monday, January 27.
Kings vs Nets prediction
My best bet
Noah Clowney Over 2.5 made threes (+110 at bet365)My analysis
The Brooklyn Nets may be riding the struggle bus, but Nets forward Noah Clowney isn’t.
The second-year forward from Alabama has been lighting it up from downtown, and I don’t envision the Sacramento Kings preventing him from knocking down a trio of treys tonight.
That’s because the Kings are one of the worst stop units at defending the triple. They’ve 21st is attempts allowed (38.7) and rank 29th in made threes per night (14.6), which spikes to nearly 15 on the road.
That should allow Clowney enough opportunities to clear his 3-point prop. He’s averaging a pair of triples on nearly six attempts, but he’s seen an uptick in minutes and attempts and has knocked down at least three triples in two of his last five.
Clowney will get every opportunity to clear tonight’s 3-point mark. He should see at least 30 minutes, and he’s playing a much faster-paced Kings group that doesn’t defend the perimeter well.
Kings vs Nets same-game parlay
The uptick in pace will allow Clowney to get his looks from downtown, but Kings center Domantas Sabonis will also flourish in the fast-paced environment, which should also send the game total Over the number.
Sabonis is one of the best passing bigs in the game. He’s dished 7+ dimes in seven of his last nine and is up against a Nets defense surrendering the 10th-most (27.5) per night.
The faster pace should send the final score Over the game total. The Kings’ Over/Under mark is 8-2-0 to the Over across its last 10 because its defense is awful.
That poor Kings defense should allow the Nets to score enough behind Clowney’s triples to take this game Over the number.

The Sacramento Kings will be taking on the Brooklyn Nets in an exciting matchup that is sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats. Both teams have been playing well this season and will be looking to secure a victory in this game. The odds for this game currently have the Brooklyn Nets as the favorites, with a -6.5 point spread. The over/under is set at 229.5 points.
In terms of picks and predictions, the Brooklyn Nets have been performing exceptionally well this season with a strong roster that includes superstars like Kevin Durant and James Harden. The Sacramento Kings, on the other hand, have been inconsistent and struggling to find their footing.
With that being said, I predict that the Brooklyn Nets will come out on top in this game. They have the talent and experience to outmatch the Kings and secure a win. I also believe that the game will go over the point total, as both teams have the ability to score at a high rate.
Overall, my pick is for the Brooklyn Nets to win and for the game to go over the point total. It should be an exciting matchup between two talented teams, so be sure to tune in and watch the action unfold.

Brooklyn Nets vs Sacramento Kings preview: Monday night basketball
A special night for an all time great. On Saturday night, the Brooklyn Nets retired Vince Carter’s jersey as his #15 ascended to the Barclays Center rafters. It was the perfect end to a perfect week celebrating one of the franchise’s greatest players. The team itself played and lost against the Miami Heat, but they got the main thing right.
The opponent tonight is, somehow, still in the playoff chase. It’s been a long year for the Sacramento Kings, but coming into this game they are in the tenth and final spot for the postseason. They didn’t help the cause on Saturday night as they got knocked around by the New York Knicks at MSG.
Where to follow the game
YES Network on TV. WFAN on radio. Tip after 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Brooklyn Nets will commemorate the Chinese New Year — the Year of the Snake — tonight as well. The Chinese New Year game is part of the Nets Unite platform and will include unique food, fashion and culture. The festivities also include a red envelope giveaway for every fan in attendance, a Chinese tradition wishing good fortune for the new year.
Injuries
No Cam Thomas, Cam Johnson, Bojan Bogdanovic, Trendon Watford, Maxwell Lewis, and DeAnthony Melton. Ben Simmons is questionable.
All clear on the report for Sacto.
The game
Brooklyn won the first game in November, Jordi Fernandez’s homecoming. This is the last meeting between the two teams this season.
Since the last time we saw Sacramento, they underwent a big change. After a disastrous loss to the Detroit Pistons, the team fired Mike Brown the next day. Being fired is one thing, but being fired after running practice, doing media availability, and traveling on the way to Los Angeles for a game against the Lakers is what pissed everyone off. Former Kings coach Michael Malone didn’t hold back when he talked about the firing:
“So I’m not surprised that Mike Brown got fired, because I got fired by the same person. And what really pissed me off about it was the fact that [the Kings] lost last night, fifth game in a row, I believe. Tough loss, fouling a jump shooter,” said Malone, the Nuggets coach. “They had practiced this morning. He does his media, and he’s in his car going to the airport to fly to L.A. and they call him on the phone [and tell him he’s fired]. No class. No balls. That’s what I’ll say about that.”
Jesus. The reputation of Kings’ management is in the dirt, but something funny happened along the way. The team got good again! Under first year head coach and former King fan favorite Doug Christie, Sacramento has gotten their groove back. Since the firing, the Kings have gone 10-4, fourth best record in the NBA during that time span. It appears Christie is pushing all the right buttons, and according to Keon Ellis, he’s been a major breath of fresh air:
“I think it just has been easier because there are not a lot of rules, honestly. The only real staple is going out there and playing hard, playing for each other. The offense, the defense is just playing aggressive and playing our game.
“He’s preached a lot of communication. On the defensive end, if we’re blitzing someone just talk about whatever we are doing. We run a bunch of different things, but it doesn’t matter as long as we’re communicating and getting through it, that’s all that matters. And then on the offensive end, you have the best players in the game so you’re giving them the ball.
“I think that was the first message he told us is it’s going to get real simple. Late game or whatever throughout the stretch, [De’Aaron] Fox you get it, we’re running this play, Deebo [DeRozan] you get it, whoever has it you guys are pros, you guys are the players out there. I’m going to give you the ball and you are going to go out there and make it happen. So, I think he just puts it all on us and I think he just wants us to go out there and play hard and play for each other.”
There’s still a lot of season to go, and if the Kings are able to make something shake in the postseason, maybe the messy ass breakup would have been worth it.
In the meantime, the Nets will have their hands full with Domantas Sabonis. Sabonis leads the NBA in rebounding at 14 a night and grabs almost four offensive boards a night. If you don’t put a body on him and match his physicality, he’s bound to do something like this
Hope the guys have been hitting the weights extra hard. We’ll see how Nic Claxton is able to handle the former All Star on the inside. Clax tends to look more like himself when he’s set up in great position to score and fed close to the rim. He and Noah Clowney will have to work incredibly hard to keep Sabonis off the glass and limit those second and third chance opportunities. If they don’t, Sabonis is a good bet to earn his seventh triple double of the season.
If the game gets close, the Kings will hand the reins over to the midrange maestro. DeMar DeRozan has been pretty solid in his first year with the Kings, and when the game is close late, Christie can put the rock in his hands and trust him to get to his spots. For all great teams, you need at least two players who can get their own shot, especially in crunch time. Sacramento has that. Now can they do everything else needed to be a great team? We shall see.
Player to watch: De’Aaron Fox
Recently, New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart was on Candace Parker’s the Trophy Room show. Stewie was discussing the pressure of being the best player on a team and taking responsibility when things don’t go according to plan, and she said something pretty fascinating:
“Taking ownership came from coach [Geno] Auriemma, from UCONN. I just remember having a conversation with him at one point throughout my career and he was like “No matter what happens on the court, it’s your fault…
“But as you get older, you understand why things are said that way. No matter what was happening in that game, I can take it on me because I can take it…”
That’s the rule when you’re the best player. When things go right, you get the credit and acknowledgement as the star you are. When you lose, you’re the first person we turn to when things go wrong. And when people suspect you of being the person that helped get the coach fired, well… we’re gonna ask you all kinds of questions
“I wouldn’t use the word ‘guilt.’ That’s the nature of the job that we have. Obviously, him signing his extension this summer, we thought we would be together a whole lot longer.
But that’s the decision that they made. But at the end of the day, too, he’s still getting paid. A great part of being an NBA player, being an NBA coach is those things can happen, but contracts are guaranteed.”
I mean he’s right, but yeesh. But when you talk like that, you better ball. Fox has held up his end of the bargain for the most part. Since the firing, he’s averaging around 22/5/6 on 42/28/87 shooting splits. Fox has been dealing with finger injuries on his left hand since training camp and is now dealing with a sprained right thumb. He’s gonna keep toughing it out, and considering how deep in the hole the Kings put themselves in, he’s gotta give them as much as he can.
D’Angelo Russell is back after a brief injury absence, and when he’s able to draw the defense’s attention, good things happen
The partnership between he and Claxton will be something to watch closely as we go through the rest of this season. For Brooklyn tonight, they’ll do their best to try and find their way into the paint. In January, the Kings are only allowing teams to shoot 63.6 percent in the restricted area. It’s a marked improvement from earlier in the season when they allowed teams to shoot close to 70 percent in that part of the court. Russell’s ability to probe defenses and find his way to the cup will help keep the Nets in it.
From the Vault
On Saturday, D’Angelo’s “Voodoo” turned 25 years old. It was lauded immediately upon release and has grown in stature over the years. With that in mind, let’s pull up two tracks before we hit the road

Commanders vs Eagles odds and preview at DraftKings Sportsbook
The two teams split the first two games they’ve played this season, and a trip to the Super Bowl is on the line. It’s important to note that Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts got injured in the second game and didn’t finish. Obviously, Hurts being available changes a lot about this contest today.
DraftKings Sportsbook has Philly as the -6-point home favorite on the spread and -278 on the moneyline. Washington is +225 on the moneyline. The total currently sits at over/under 47.5 points, with a lean toward the under at -115. The odds for the Commanders vs Eagles are subject to change.
The key to this game is the line of scrimmage. The team that wins this battle in the trenches will have the upper hand. The other factor, as we saw in the Commanders’ upset of the Detroit Lions, is turnovers. The team that holds onto the ball will gain an even better advantage.
The other fascinating aspect of today’s game is the quarterbacks. What else is there to say about rookie Jayden Daniels? If he leads Washington to another road upset, he’ll be the first rookie QB to lead his team to a Super Bowl. On the other side is Hurts, who has been to the Super Bowl before and obviously wants to get back. The quarterback who makes the most plays will put their team in the best situation to advance to New Orleans.
With DraftKings offering up to $1,250 in bonus offers for new sign-ups, it’s a prime opportunity to leverage your insights for these odds.
