  • Cam Jurgens injury updates: Eagles center will miss NFC title game

We’re now hours from kicking off the NFC Championship game, and Eagles Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens will be inactive after testing out his injured back.

With Jurgens expected to be ruled out, Tyler Steen will shift to the left guard spot, and Landon Dickerson will start at the center position.

Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert declared he was “good to go.” He was a full participant and has no game status designation for Sunday.

Jurgens, meanwhile, was a limited participant and is questionable for Sunday. Landon Dickerson took reps at center this week in case Jurgens cannot play.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts (knee) was a full participant on Friday and has no game status designation.

The Eagles ruled out two players on Injured Reserve, who have returned to practice – wide receiver Britain Covey (neck) and defensive tackle Byron Young (hamstring).

Covey’s absence means that Cooper DeJean will continue to handle punt returns.

This article originally appeared on Eagles Wire: Cam Jurgens injury updates: Eagles center will miss NFC title game

The Philadelphia Eagles will be without starting center Cam Jurgens for the NFC title game due to a lingering injury. Jurgens, who has been dealing with a lower body issue, will not be able to suit up for the crucial matchup against their conference rival.

This news comes as a big blow to the Eagles, as Jurgens has been a key contributor to their offensive line throughout the season. His absence will be felt as they face off against a tough opponent in the NFC title game.

The team is hopeful that Jurgens will be able to recover in time for the Super Bowl, should they advance. In the meantime, they will have to rely on their depth and adjust their game plan to make up for his absence.

Stay tuned for further updates on Cam Jurgens’ injury status and how the Eagles will adjust in his absence for the NFC title game.

  • Jason Kelce walks back Jayden Daniels-Jalen Hurts debate before NFC Championship

The Washington Commanders and the Philadelphia Eagles are getting ready to face off for the third time this season. However, this third meeting will have much more juice behind it as the winner of the NFC Championship game will move on to play either the Kansas City Chiefs or Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl LIX from New Orleans.

The build up to this game has been at a high all week and that hasn’t been missed by many and that also goes for NFL and Eagles‘ legend Jason Kelce who made some interesting comments regarding his stance on the two teams facing off, heavily siding with his former team when speaking on a radio spot earlier this week.

‘”I’ll be very candid. I think the Eagles are better at every position,’ he said Thursday during a radio spot. ‘I don’t know that there is one position if you put the two rosters, the depth charts next to each other that I would take the Washington player over the Eagle player. And that is a very honest assessment,” Kelce said. “I think that the Eagles are loaded. And Washington to their credit, they play extremely well as a team. [Head coach] Dan Quinn is a fantastic coach, they scheme things well.”

A pretty strong statement there from the eldest Kelce brother. Believing and knowing are two different things and when comparing the rosters, yes the Eagles’ roster greatly overpowers the Commanders. However, saying at every position is a stretch especially considering that rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has outperformed the veteran Jalen Hurts this season.

Kelce took heat for his statements across social media with fans and media alike both stating that obvious fact. Following getting crushed for his original statements, Kelce took to his ‘X’ platform and attempted to clarify what he was actually talking about during his segment on the radio show.

“Just to clarify, I wasn’t really talking about the QBs with this quote, I had already brought them up in the convo. I was talking about all the other positions, I could have been clearer with that. I think both QBs are incredible, Jayden is having an insane rookie season. Washington is very good, obviously, their linebackers are fantastic, and the DTs Allen and Payne are very good. They are good across the board,” Kelce wrote on ‘X’. “In the rest of the interview I go on to say Washington plays very well as a team, they’re very physical, well coached, and a resilient group. It’s going to be a dog fight. Wasn’t trying to say anything negative about them.”

Kelce made sure to clarify that he wasn’t strictly speaking on the two quarterbacks while further explaining the rest of the interview that he had during the segment, not just the snippet that was captured online. While Kelce may have given Washington their flowers, it is no shocker where his allegiances lie as he spent 13 seasons in Philly.

As I previously mentioned, Daniels has outplayed Hurts this season throwing for over 600 more yards and seven touchdowns while also outpacing him on the ground by 261 yards while Hurts has the edge in rushing touchdowns 14 to Daniels’ six due to him getting tons of opportunities at the goal line with the ‘tush push’ quarterback sneak.

Both rosters and quarterbacks are respected by either side and we will finally get to see them matchup in an all-important game for a chance to reach the Super Bowl.

In a surprising turn of events, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce has officially walked back his previous comments regarding the Jayden Daniels-Jalen Hurts debate ahead of the NFC Championship game.

Kelce, who sparked controversy earlier in the week with his bold declaration that Daniels was the superior quarterback over Hurts, has now publicly apologized for his remarks and clarified that he fully supports Hurts as the team’s starting quarterback.

“I want to set the record straight and make it clear that I have the utmost respect for Jalen Hurts and believe in his abilities as our quarterback,” Kelce said in a statement released by the Eagles. “I let my emotions get the best of me in the heat of the moment, and I want to apologize to Jalen and the entire team for any confusion or distraction my comments may have caused.”

Kelce’s retraction comes just days before the Eagles are set to face off against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game, with Hurts leading the charge as the team’s starting quarterback. Despite the initial controversy, it appears that Kelce and the rest of the Eagles are now fully focused on the task at hand and are ready to give it their all in pursuit of a spot in the Super Bowl.

As the Eagles prepare to take on the Packers, Kelce’s walk back of the Daniels-Hurts debate serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and support within the team. With Hurts leading the way, the Eagles will look to prove their doubters wrong and come out on top in what is sure to be an intense and hard-fought matchup.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Eagles gear up for the NFC Championship game and continue their quest for Super Bowl glory. Let’s go Birds! #FlyEaglesFly

  • 2025 NFC Championship: Jalen Carter humbled by Aaron Donald comments after saving Eagles year, set for encore

PHILADELPHIA — Jalen Carter has the drive to be great. When Sunday rolls around, the Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle excepts nothing less.

But even Carter is humbled. When one of the greatest defensive players of all time gives Carter a shoutout, all Carter could do was smile.

Eagles legend LeSean McCoy revealed on Fox Sports 1 he spoke to Donald, a friend of McCoy’s and fellow Pitt alum, as the future Hall of Famer give the highest praise to Carter.

“I haven’t watched football like that in a long time, Donald told McCoy. “That guy Jalen Carter, bro. My replacement is here.”

When Carter was informed of Donald’s comments, the reaction was wholesome.

“That’s nice man. I always wanted to talk to AD,” Carter said. “Just to hear that from him, one of the best, and I watched his film and learned from him. That means a lot…That’s love from an OG right there. I really don’t know what else to say.

“If I’m getting that from him, that means something right there.”

Carter had one of the most dominant performances in Eagles playoff history in last week’s divisional round victory over the Los Angeles Rams. He finished with five tackles, two sacks, seven pressures, three quarterback hits, and a forced fumble in the 28-22 victory — with his two biggest plays in the fourth quarter. His forced fumble on the first play of the fourth quarter led to the Eagles extending their lead, but the biggest play was a sack on Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford on a third-and-2 at the Eagles’ 13 with 1:14 left in the Eagles clinging to a 28-22 lead. On the next play, Carter hit Stafford and forced an incompletion that sealed the Eagles win.

Carter saved the Eagles season. he doesn’t look at it that way, part of what makes him great.

“It made me feel good. But you know, it really don’t hit until like later on,” Carter said. “We all celebrating there. You know, I’m getting all the [accolades] as you mentioned. I’m like I might [have won the game] but at the end it’s still a team game, like we all had to do what we had to do.

“I know that one play is a big play, but at the end of the day, everybody still had to do their job.”

Carter is the one player on the Eagles defense the Washington Commanders have to account for at all times. He’s the one that can change the game for Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels as well.

Sunday could be an encore performance for Carter, who is already tabbed as the next Aaron Donald

The 2025 NFC Championship game was filled with drama, excitement, and star power. In a showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Rams, it was a battle of the ages as seasoned veteran Aaron Donald faced off against up-and-coming star Jalen Carter.

Carter, a defensive tackle for the Eagles, had a standout performance in the game, making crucial plays that ultimately helped lead his team to victory. But it was his post-game interaction with Donald that truly captured the hearts of football fans everywhere.

After the game, Donald, known for his dominance on the field and humble demeanor off of it, took the time to praise Carter for his performance. He commended the young player for his talent, work ethic, and sportsmanship, calling him a “rising star in the league.”

Carter, who has long admired Donald and modeled his game after the Rams’ defensive powerhouse, was visibly moved by the praise. In a post-game interview, he expressed his gratitude for Donald’s kind words, saying that it was a surreal moment for him to receive such high praise from one of the game’s all-time greats.

But Carter’s humility and respect for Donald didn’t stop there. As he looks ahead to the Super Bowl and the chance to further solidify his place among the league’s elite, he remains focused on his team and the task at hand.

With the support of his teammates and the inspiration of players like Donald, Jalen Carter is poised for an encore performance that could solidify his legacy in the NFL. And with the humility and respect he has shown throughout his career, there’s no doubt that he will continue to make a lasting impact on and off the field for years to come.

These longtime NFC East rivals split their two games during the regular season, with the Eagles winning the game played in Philadelphia, 26-18. Top Eagles vs. Commanders predictions

For Commanders vs. Eagles in the NFC Championship Game, Hartstein is leaning Over the point total. Both teams ranked in the top seven of the NFL during the regular season in scoring, with the Commanders averaging 28.5 points per game, and the Eagles averaging 27.2. Both teams have also been effective on the offensive side of the ball during the NFL playoffs 2025, with Washington averaging 34 points per game and Philadelphia averaging 25.

The Eagles are paced by one of the league’s top rushing attacks. Philadelphia averaged 179.3 rushing yards per game during the regular season, and is averaging 227 during the postseason. Running back Saquon Barkley established himself as a MVP candidate in his first year with the team, rushing for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns, with 33 catches for 278 yards and two scores during the regular season. In two postseason games, Barkley has 324 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The Commanders have one of the league’s most explosive and balanced offensive attacks behind rookie sensation Jayden Daniels. The 2023 Heisman Trophy runner is likely going to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, and is one of the most dynamic players in the NFL despite his lack of experience. Daniels threw for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, and rushed for 891 yards and six scores during the regular season. In two playoff games, Daniels has 567 passing yards and four touchdowns, and he’s rushed for 87 yards. He has yet to turn the ball over during the postseason. Eighty-seven percent of the public is backing the over as well. See which side to pick here.

As we inch closer to the 2025 NFC Championship Game, all eyes are on the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles as they battle it out for a spot in the Super Bowl. The odds, spread, and line for the highly anticipated matchup have been released, and experts are weighing in with their picks and predictions.

The Commanders, led by their dynamic quarterback and stout defense, are currently favored to win the NFC Championship Game with -3.5 spread. The Eagles, on the other hand, are the underdogs with a spread of +3.5. The over/under line is set at 48.5 points, indicating that this could be a high-scoring affair.

Expert handicapper, who is currently on a scorching 22-6 run, is leaning towards the Commanders to cover the spread and come out victorious in this matchup. He believes that Washington’s defense will be the difference-maker in this game, as they have been able to shut down high-powered offenses all season long.

However, he also warns not to count out the Eagles, who have been playing with a chip on their shoulder all season. Their explosive offense and opportunistic defense could pose a threat to the Commanders, especially if they can create turnovers and capitalize on Washington’s mistakes.

Overall, this NFC Championship Game is shaping up to be a thrilling and closely contested battle between two worthy opponents. It will be interesting to see which team comes out on top and punches their ticket to the Super Bowl. Stay tuned for more updates and analysis as we get closer to game day.

  • Four storylines to watch for Bills-Chiefs, Commanders-Eagles in AFC, NFC Championship Games

The Athletic has live coverage of Commanders vs Eagles in the NFC Championship Game and Bills vs Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.

    And then there were four.

The NFL’s conference championship Sunday is here, bringing matchups between the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC and the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC. The winners advance to Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9 in New Orleans.

The NFC Championship Game is at 3 p.m. ET at Lincoln Financial Field, and the AFC Championship Game follows at 6:30 p.m. ET at Arrowhead Stadium.

There are no unknowns between these four teams.

Washington and Philadelphia face each other twice a year as members of the NFC East, and they split their games this season. The Eagles won the first meeting 26-18 in Week 11, then the Commanders turned the tables with a 36-33 victory in Week 16.

But this is only the second playoff meeting between the teams. Washington beat Philadelphia 20-6 in the 1990 season wild-card round.

The Chiefs and Bills also have met previously this season, with Buffalo beating Kansas City 30-21 in Week 11. Since 2020, the Bills are 4-1 in the regular season against the Chiefs. Kansas City, however, has won three straight playoff meetings against Buffalo, including last season’s 27-24 triumph in the divisional round. Kansas City also beat Buffalo 42-36 in the 2021 season divisional round and 38-24 in the 2020 season AFC Championship Game.

Here are four more top storylines to follow Sunday.

    NFC: Commanders at Eagles

Jayden Daniels’ shot at Super Bowl history

Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels has delivered a rookie season for the ages. That success has carried over into the playoffs, where he has a rookie-record 46 completions along with 567 passing yards, four touchdown passes and no interceptions, which translates to a 116.2 passer rating. He also has 87 rushing yards in two playoff games.

Daniels has 14 victories in his young career. With another one Sunday, he would surpass Ben Roethlisberger (with the 2004 Pittsburgh Steelers) for the most wins by a rookie quarterback, postseason included. Daniels also can become the first rookie quarterback to win three postseason games and start a Super Bowl. Finally, he can join Tom Brady (2020 Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Tony Eason (1985 New England Patriots), Eli Manning (2007 New York Giants), Aaron Rodgers (2010 Green Bay Packers) and Roethlisberger (2005 Steelers) as quarterbacks to win three road games in one playoff run.

In his last meeting with Philadelphia, Daniels recorded 258 passing yards, five touchdown passes, two interceptions and rushed for 81 yards. With the game on the line, Daniels directed a nine-play, 57-yard scoring drive capped by a 9-yard touchdown pass to Jamison Crowder with six seconds left on the clock to lift the Commanders.

Daniels has directed five fourth-quarter comebacks and game-winning drives (four in the regular season and one in the playoffs at Tampa Bay). The Commanders handily upset Detroit 45-31 in the divisional round last week behind 299 passing yards and two touchdown passes from Daniels. Can the dazzling rookie lead his team to an improbable victory yet again?

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts was hobbled last week but still helped Philly beat the Rams. (Eric Hartline / Imagn Images)

    Eagles injury concerns

Almost everyone is beat up this time of year, but the Eagles find themselves nursing injuries at several key positions, and that could hamper their effectiveness against Washington.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts suffered a knee injury in last week’s divisional victory over the Los Angeles Rams and had reduced mobility during the latter stages of the game. Hurts averaged 42 rushing yards per game in the regular season and had 14 rushing touchdowns, many of them scored on the Eagles’ signature tush-push quarterback sneak play.

If Hurts’ mobility is reduced again Sunday, Philadelphia’s offense loses a significant dimension. If that’s the case, look for the Eagles to lean even more heavily on running back Saquon Barkley, who has averaged 25.5 carries and 162 rushing yards per game in the playoffs. He also had two rushing touchdowns — a 62-yarder and a 78-yarder — against the Rams.

The running game is the only consistent element of Philadelphia’s offense. Big-play wide receiver A.J. Brown has just three catches for 24 yards this postseason, while DeVonta Smith has tallied only eight catches for 76 yards and no touchdowns.

Tight end Dallas Goedert has eight catches for 103 yards and a touchdown this postseason, but he is nursing an ankle injury that caused him to miss practice time this week. He expects to play Sunday. Center Cam Jurgens is questionable with a back injury.

The Eagles also have a concerning injury on the defensive side of the ball. Impressive rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell missed the bulk of last week’s game with a shoulder injury. He expects to play Sunday, but his effectiveness could be limited depending on his range of motion and strength. Mitchell limited Washington’s leading pass-catcher Terry McLaurin to just one reception for 10 yards in Philadelphia’s victory, but McLaurin had five catches for 60 yards and a touchdown in the rematch.

    AFC: Bills at Chiefs

Can Josh Allen, Bills get over the hump?

Allen has spent his entire career chasing Patrick Mahomes. As mentioned, he has outdueled his rival in the regular season. But when the contests matter the most, Allen has come up short.

In last season’s divisional showdown, he completed 26 of 39 passes for just 186 yards and a touchdown but scored two rushing touchdowns. Buffalo had just seven second-half points and suffered a fourth-quarter fumble that foiled a potential scoring drive. Allen and the Bills have had a whole year to think about what they would have done differently as they now get another crack at Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Allen has done more with less in 2024 while directing an offense that ranked second in scoring during the regular season (30.9 points per game) despite not having a top-flight No. 1 receiver. Against Baltimore last week, Allen was efficient, passing for 127 yards, completing 16 of 22 attempts and rushing for two touchdowns. He received support from a defense that forced three Ravens turnovers and running backs who combined for 127 rushing yards on top of Allen’s 20.

Allen and the Bills averaged 359.1 total yards to Kansas City’s 327.6 and averaged eight more points per game than the Chiefs during the regular season. In the postseason, Buffalo’s offense has averaged 372 yards and 29 points in two games to Kansas City’s 212 yards and 23 points in one. Buffalo’s defense boasted a league-best plus-24 turnover differential in the regular season (Kansas City was plus-6) and has a plus-3 differential in the postseason.

Is this finally the year Allen gets his team over the hump?

Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes hasn’t been as explosive this season. Does that change vs. the Bills? (Mark Konezny / Imagn Images)

Defense important as Chiefs eye Super Bowl return

Kansas City finds itself one win away from a third consecutive Super Bowl appearance. Only three teams, the 1971-73 Dolphins, 1990-93 Bills (four appearances in a row) and 2016-18 Patriots, have accomplished such a feat. No one, however, has won three Super Bowls in a row.

Three other back-to-back Super Bowl champs (the 1992-93 Cowboys, 1988-89 49ers and 1974-75 Steelers) returned to the conference championship game for a third straight season, but none made the Super Bowl.

Mahomes is trying to join Tom Brady and John Elway by reaching the Super Bowl five times in his career. Brady, of course, did so 10 times, so Mahomes would have a ways to go to catch him in this category.

To return to the Super Bowl, Mahomes and the Chiefs offense may need an infusion of life after producing a paltry 212 yards in last week’s 23-14 win over Houston. Third downs proved problematic for the Chiefs, who converted on just four of their 11 attempts.

Mahomes, who passed for just 177 yards and a touchdown last week, is looking for another receiver to emerge as a threat after tight end Travis Kelce erupted for 117 yards and a touchdown on seven catches. Xavier Worthy, Noah Gray and Kareem Hunt combined for just nine catches and 60 yards. Marquise Brown, DeAndre Hopkins and JuJu Smith-Schuster all went without a catch on four combined targets.

Offensive struggles will intensify pressure on a defense that limited Houston to only two touchdowns but allowed the Texans to convert 10 of 17 third downs and gain 336 yards. During the regular season, the Chiefs defense was among the stingiest in the league, holding foes to just 19.2 points a game (fourth fewest).

That unit may have to deliver one of its most dominant performances yet to get to New Orleans.

As the AFC and NFC Championship games approach, football fans are eagerly anticipating the matchups between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs, as well as the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles. With so much on the line, here are four key storylines to watch for in each game:

Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs:

    1. The battle of the quarterbacks: Josh Allen vs. Patrick Mahomes. Both young signal-callers have been playing lights-out football this season and will look to outduel each other in what is sure to be a high-scoring affair.

    2. The Chiefs’ high-powered offense vs. the Bills’ stout defense. Kansas City boasts one of the most explosive offenses in the league, led by Mahomes and star tight end Travis Kelce. The Bills, on the other hand, have a top-ranked defense that will look to slow down the Chiefs’ high-flying attack.

    3. Revenge factor: The Bills were eliminated by the Chiefs in last year’s AFC Championship game, and they will be looking to avenge that loss and punch their ticket to the Super Bowl.

    4. Coaching chess match: Sean McDermott of the Bills and Andy Reid of the Chiefs are two of the best coaches in the league and will have their teams well-prepared for this matchup. Look for strategic adjustments and game-planning to play a big role in determining the outcome of this game.

    Washington Commanders vs. Philadelphia Eagles:

    1. Battle of the NFC East rivals: The Commanders and Eagles have a long-standing rivalry within the NFC East, and this game will have added significance as they vie for a spot in the Super Bowl.

    2. Jalen Hurts vs. Taylor Heinicke: Two young quarterbacks who have exceeded expectations this season will go head-to-head in a matchup that could determine the outcome of the game.

    3. The Commanders’ dominant defense vs. the Eagles’ potent rushing attack. Washington boasts one of the top defenses in the league, while Philadelphia has leaned heavily on their rushing attack led by running back Miles Sanders. The battle in the trenches will be crucial in determining the winner of this game.

    4. Coaching matchup: Ron Rivera of the Commanders and Nick Sirianni of the Eagles will look to out-coach each other in what is sure to be a hard-fought battle between two evenly matched teams.

As the AFC and NFC Championship games approach, these four storylines will be key in determining which teams will advance to the Super Bowl. Football fans are in for a treat as they watch these exciting matchups unfold.

  • What time is the Philadelphia Eagles game Sunday? What to know before Philly hosts the Commanders in NFC championship

The Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders will go head-to-head in the NFC championship on Sunday with a one-way ticket to Super Bowl LIX on the line.

Of course, this isn’t the first time these two teams have played against each other this season. The Eagles beat the Commanders 26-18 the first time they went up against each other on Nov. 14. But the Commanders took home the win in their second regular season matchup, winning 36-33 on their home turf.

The winner of Sunday’s game will headline the 2025 Super Bowl playing against either the Buffalo Bills or Kansas City Chiefs.

Philadelphia faithful, get the game-day snacks and your favorite Eagles hoodie on because this game is a must-watch. Here’s what to know before kickoff Sunday.

What time does the Eagles game start today?

The NFC championship game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders kicks off at 3 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field. Although in tailgating time that means it’ll be an extra early morning for Birds fans planning to park it down in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex lots.

    Eagles vs. Commanders tickets

Tickets are still available to see the Birds in person at the Linc on Sunday, but these will cost you more than a bit. Ticket sales on TicketMaster started as low as $600.

The Better Business Bureau shared tips for buying tickets online earlier this month.

    • Buy from a trusted vendor.
    • Verify your tickets with will call.
    • Use a credit card so you can get your money back if tickets are fake.

    Philadelphia Eagles Injury Report

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was a full participant in practice on Friday and has no game status designation. Hurts previously said he expects to wear a knee brace on Sunday.

Meanwhile, tight end Dallas Goedert who suffered an ankle injury, was also a full participant in practice Friday and has no game status designation ahead of the NFC title game.

Center Cam Jurgens returned to practice Friday as a limited participant and is questionable for the game. Landon Dickerson got some reps in as center during practice in the event that Jurgens can’t play. Additionally, wide receiver Britain Covey and defensive tackle Byron Young, both players on Injured Reserve, were ruled out ahead of Sunday.

The team announced Saturday they’ve elevated linebacker Nicholas Morrow and fullback Khari Blasingame for the NFC title game. The Eagles also signed defensive end KJ Henry to the practice squad and released offensive lineman Cameron Erving from the practice squad.

    NFC championship game weather forecast

Temperatures on Sunday will be slightly above average for this time of year. At kickoff, temperatures will reach a seasonable range in the low 40s, with a wind chill in the mid-30s. During the Eagles-Commanders NFC championship game, cloud coverage could shift from mostly cloudy, to partly cloudy.

Familiar face returning to the Linc

If the Eagles want to reach the Super Bowl for the second time in three years, they’ll have to beat one of the franchise’s all-time greats. Zach Ertz, who caught the go-ahead touchdown pass in Philadelphia’s Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots, plays tight end for the Commanders.

Ertz spent nine seasons with the Eagles after he was selected in the second round of the NFC draft in 2013 out of Stanford University. He ranks fifth all-time in franchise history in receiving yards, second all-time in catches and seventh all-time in receiving touchdowns.

Ertz last played with the Eagles in 2021, but the team traded him to the Arizona Cardinals midway through the season. He played with the Cardinals for three seasons until he signed with the Commanders in the offseason.

In the 2024 season, Ertz had his best season since 2019. He had 66 catches, 654 yards and seven receiving touchdowns, which ranked second on the team. In the divisional round win over the Lions, he had five catches for 28 yards and a touchdown.

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to face off against the Washington Commanders in the NFC championship game this Sunday. The game will kick off at 1:00 PM EST at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Before the highly anticipated matchup, here are some key things to know:

    1. The Eagles are coming off a strong regular season, finishing with a record of 12-5 and securing the top seed in the NFC. They have been led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, who has had a breakout season and will look to continue his success against Washington’s defense.

    2. The Commanders, on the other hand, finished the regular season with a record of 9-8 and secured a wildcard spot in the playoffs. Led by quarterback Taylor Heinicke, Washington will look to pull off an upset on the road and advance to the Super Bowl.

    3. This will be the first meeting between the Eagles and the Commanders in the playoffs since 1990, adding extra excitement to the game.

    4. The winner of this game will advance to the Super Bowl and represent the NFC in the championship game.

So mark your calendars and get ready to cheer on the Eagles as they battle the Commanders for a chance to advance to the Super Bowl. Let’s go Eagles! #FlyEaglesFly #NFCChampionship

  • 3 expert player prop bets to make for Commanders vs. Eagles in the NFC Championship game

The Philadelphia Eagles host the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. ET. The Eagles will be aiming to reach the Super Bowl for the second time in three seasons.

We highlight the best Player Prop bets on DraftKings for Eagles vs. Commanders. Be sure to also opt into their “King of the End Zone” promotion for both of today’s conference championship games. Use a qualifying bet token on an Anytime TD Scorer to win a share of $2 million in bonus bets.

The Eagles scored 33 points against Washington in the last meeting between the teams in Week 16, so wagering on the Philadelphia offense can bring you some satisfying returns. Let’s get into my expert player prop bets to make for the NFC Championship game of Commanders vs. Eagles.

Best player prop bets for the NFC Championship game

Note: Odds are based on the best value our experts find as of publication; check lines closer to game time to ensure you get the best odds.

    Saquon Barkley 2+ TDs

    Odds: +255 at DraftKings Sportsbook

The odds for Barkley as an anytime TD scorer are -225, so being aggressive and betting on more than one TD will provide a better return. The superstar running back can certainly deliver on this wager against the Washington defense. The Commanders allowed three rushing TDs to Detroit last week after allowing 16 during the regular season, which was tied for second-most in the NFL.

Barkley rushed for two TDs in both matchups against Washington this season. He also rushed for two TDs last week against the Rams. As we have seen often this season, Barkley is capable of scoring from anywhere on the field, and with Jalen Hurts working through a knee injury, the Eagles may be slightly less inclined to use him as a rushing TD alternative.

DeVonta Smith Over 48.5 Receiving Yards

    Odds: -113 at DraftKings Sportsbook

This is certainly an attainable yardage number for Smith to clear when we consider that the Washington defense will be heavily focused on Barkley, and A.J. Brown in pass coverage. Plus, it is uncertain just how healthy Brown is. He is also playing through a knee injury and only caught three passes in two playoff games. Smith finished with 51 receiving yards in the Week 16 matchup with the Commanders.

The Eagles may have to respond to some frequent scoring from Washington, and Smith can be a key part of the passing flow if the two teams trade offensive punches.

Brian Robinson Jr. 10+ Rushing Attempts

    Odds: -107 at DraftKings Sportsbook

Robinson carried 10-plus times in each of the first two Washington playoff games. While he has not been a prominent part of the Commanders offense so far in the postseason, Washington’s lead RB does play an important role in the game plan.

Washington wants to control the clock as much as possible against the Eagles and Robinson can also ease some pressure on Jayden Daniels, who will be the top containment priority for the Philadelphia defense. The Commanders RB totaled 26 carries in the two regular season meetings with the Eagles this season.

    1. Jalen Hurts over 50.5 rushing yards – Hurts has been a dual-threat quarterback all season, and with the stakes this high in the NFC Championship game, he will likely use his legs to make plays. The Commanders defense has struggled at times against mobile quarterbacks, making this prop bet a solid choice.
    2. Terry McLaurin over 75.5 receiving yards – McLaurin has been a consistent playmaker for the Commanders all season, and in a game of this magnitude, he will likely see plenty of targets from quarterback Taylor Heinicke. The Eagles secondary has been vulnerable at times against top receivers, making this prop bet a good one to consider.
    3. Miles Sanders under 60.5 rushing yards – The Commanders boast a strong run defense, and Sanders may struggle to find running room against them in the NFC Championship game. With the Eagles likely to rely more on the passing game to move the ball, Sanders may not reach the 60.5 rushing yard mark in this matchup.

  • NFC Championship QB matchup: Jalen Hurts vs. Jayden Daniels, who has the edge?

The AFC Championship may feature the NFL’s chief quarterback rivalry, pitting Patrick Mahomes against Josh Allen for the fourth time in their respective postseason careers. The NFC title game is no slouch when it comes to star power under center, however, featuring its own duel of electric signal-callers.

On one end: Jayden Daniels, the stellar rookie whose dual-threat heroics have quickly transformed the Washington Commanders from promising rebuild to big-stage contender. On the other: Jalen Hurts, whose MVP and Super Bowl bid just two seasons ago helped establish him as one of the steadiest winners at the position, even if fellow all-stars like Saquon Barkley now propel his Philadelphia Eagles.

Which of the two NFC East quarterbacks is best positioned to reach the Super Bowl? We’ve studied the tape and the numbers to break down which playmaker has the edge going into the NFC Championship:

The 2024 overview: Daniels vs. Hurts

    Jayden Daniels

    12-5

    25

    9

    69.0 7.4

    100.1

    891 6

    Jalen Hurts

    68.7 8.0

    103.7

No matter how you slice it, Daniels has enjoyed one of the finest seasons ever produced by a rookie quarterback, and that’s considering C.J. Stroud’s pristine debut for the Houston Texans in 2023. He’s been a true one-man show for Washington, offsetting an otherwise inconsistent Commanders rushing attack with smooth moves outside the pocket, while threading the needle as both a short-area and deep-ball passer for play-caller Kliff Kingsbury. Superior defenses briefly halted his gaudy numbers earlier this year, but there’s really not a whole lot to critique about his game, and he’s still in Year 1 at the NFL level.

Hurts, meanwhile, has endured more of a “choppy” season, as he described it recently. His aerial marks are paltry by today’s passing standards, reinforcing just how much of the Eagles offense now runs through MVP-level ball carrier Saquon Barkley, whose home run breakaways have come with regularity. On the flip side, not so unlike Patrick Mahomes with the Kansas City Chiefs, Hurts has seemingly mastered the ability to control the rock when it matters most, contributing more as a bruising crunch-time scrambler and especially selective passer to let Barkley and the team’s physical defense pave the way.

Here’s how the two quarterbacks have fared just this postseason:

    Jayden Daniels

    2-0

    4

    0

    69.7 8.6 116.2 89 0

    Jalen Hurts

    2-0

    2

    0

    68.3 6.3 101.6 106 1

Daniels, again, has done more through the air, notably vaulting his yards per attempt from the regular season, whereas Hurts has taken even more of a back seat to the Eagles’ more methodical but equally victorious approach: stick to the ground game and hold onto the football.

What can these numbers — and other advanced statistics — tell us in addition to the eye test? What lies beneath the surface? Let’s proceed.

Note: Advanced statistics referenced below are courtesy of NFL Pro.

    Accuracy

Hurts has come a long way since the earliest days of his NFL career, when he was far more scattershot with ball placement. Seven different times this season he eclipsed 20 pass attempts while completing at least 70% of those throws. In other words, when he’s let it rip, he’s generally been very on-target. Daniels has been just a smidge better, showcasing his snappy arm with five different starts of at least a 75% completion rate. Also helping his cause: He’s thrown it significantly more than Hurts in 2024, meaning he’s not only matched his rival’s accuracy on paper but done it with more regularity and rhythm.

    Edge: Daniels

    Ball control

Daniels’ heavier workload as the centerpiece of the Commanders’ offense hasn’t steered him into the turnover sprees of, say, 2023 starter Sam Howell. In fact, he’s totaled fewer giveaways (nine) than Hurts (10) while also playing two more games. Yet Hurts has really rebounded from an early-season bout with forced throws, making ball control his No. 1 priority for the stretch run, whereas seven of Daniels’ nine interceptions came in the back half of the schedule. Hurts has also been especially careful in the playoffs, losing the ball just once, either via fumble or pick, in his six postseason matchups since 2022.

    Edge: Hurts

    Big-play magic

Simplistically, Daniels is widely viewed as the hot new do-it-all star, whereas Hurts registers more as the scrappy but unconventional figurehead of an all-star Eagles lineup. Yet the numbers suggest Hurts is actually more likely to throw the ball farther down the field (8.0 air yards per attempt vs. 7.6 for Daniels). He’s also got more 20-yard runs (8) than Daniels (7), including playoffs. In truth, these guys about as even as it gets when it comes to generating explosive plays. Hurts’ current knee injury could well affect his upside in this area, so we’re going to break the mold and call this a straight-up draw.

    Edge: Even

    Rushing impact

How do you define “impact”? If it’s critical short-yardage efficiency you need, Hurts is your man. His 66 first-down carries and 15 touchdown runs, including playoffs, outweigh Daniels’ marks in those areas. Complicating his assessment, however, is the knee injury that seemed to affect his mobility at the end of the Eagles’ divisional-round victory. Daniels is a much different type of runner, practically coasting down the field rather than bowling through contact, but the freshness of his legs could work in his favor here. The fact he racked up close to 900 yards on the ground and no one batted an eye should speak volumes.

    Edge: Daniels

    Situational poise

The more you dig into these two, the more you realize just how exciting their NFC East battles could be not only on Sunday but for years to come. This category is a big reason why. Daniels has been virtually unfazed by adversity as a rookie, guiding five different fourth-quarter comebacks and game-winning drives. He’s also posted his best passer rating when trailing, excelling rather than folding in the face of challenge. Hurts deserves just as much respect for his own unflappable posture, which was seen on the biggest stage of them all in 2022, but Daniels is also bearing a bigger load as a rookie. Man, it’s close.

    Edge: Even

    Home vs. road splits

Daniels has actually been a more effective passer on the road than at home, upping his completion rate from 64.6% to 74.6% in away contests. That bodes well for his return to Philadelphia. Hurts has really thrived at Lincoln Financial Field, though, and his comfort as a home quarterback extends back years; he’s now 23-5 as a starter at the Linc since 2022, including playoffs.

    Edge: Hurts

    Head-to-head history

Technically these two have only met twice, but even their existing series should carry an asterisk, as Hurts missed roughly three quarters of their last matchup, in December, due to a concussion. The first time they squared off, Daniels was relatively neutralized, rushing for just 18 yards and throwing for fewer than 200 as the Eagles controlled the ball. The last time they met, Daniels feasted on defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s blitz-heavier approach, tossing five touchdowns in a last-minute comeback win.

    Edge: Even

    The final verdict

The tally from our seven categories is as follows:

    1. Jalen Hurts (2)
    2. Jayden Daniels (2)
    3. Even (3)

Hard to get much tighter than this, isn’t it? And the thing is, even if you swing the pendulum for one category (like giving Daniels the nod in situational poise thanks to his improbable calmness as a first-year player), you could just as easily do the same for another (like giving Hurts the nod for big-play magic, since he’s shown up in big spots over a longer sample size). It speaks to the intrigue of this NFC championship, where Daniels seemingly has the power to single-handedly guide another upset, but Hurts has enough moxie to pair with Philadelphia’s formidable supporting cast to get back to the Super Bowl. Buckle in.

In this highly anticipated NFC Championship QB matchup, we have two dynamic young quarterbacks going head to head: Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles and Jayden Daniels of the Arizona Cardinals. Both signal-callers have had impressive seasons leading their teams to this point, but the question remains – who has the edge in this crucial playoff showdown?

Jalen Hurts, the dual-threat quarterback from Alabama, has been a revelation for the Eagles this season. He has shown off his athleticism and playmaking ability, both with his arm and his legs. Hurts has the ability to extend plays and make things happen when the pocket breaks down, which has made him a nightmare for opposing defenses. With his leadership and poise under pressure, Hurts has proven himself to be a true franchise quarterback in the making.

On the other side, Jayden Daniels has been a steady presence for the Cardinals all season long. The young quarterback out of Arizona State has shown off his accuracy and decision-making skills, leading Arizona to a successful season. Daniels has a strong arm and the ability to make all the throws, making him a dangerous threat to any defense. With his ability to read defenses and make quick decisions, Daniels has the potential to be a game-changer in this matchup.

So, who has the edge in this NFC Championship QB matchup? It’s a tough call, as both Hurts and Daniels bring unique skills to the table. Hurts’ athleticism and playmaking ability could give him the edge in this matchup, but Daniels’ accuracy and decision-making could also prove to be the difference-maker. Ultimately, it will come down to which quarterback can rise to the occasion and lead their team to victory in this high-stakes game. One thing is for sure – this is a matchup that fans won’t want to miss.
