  • Commanders, 76ers Owner Admits He’s in for Awkward Philly Visit for NFC Championship

Josh Harris is no stranger to conflict in the sports world. The billionaire investor entered major sports ownership in 2011, buying the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers. Two years later, he added an NHL team to his portfolio, with the New Jersey Devils. It was in 2023 that he made his biggest splash, however, spending a record $6.05 billion to buy the Washington Commanders from Dan Snyder.

His portfolio places him in a very interesting place with his various fan bases. Philadelphia is a four-sport city famous for diehard fans of its teams, and the NHL’s Flyers are nearby division rivals of the Devils. The relationship between Harris’s Commanders and the Philadelphia Eagles takes drives the awkwardness to a new level, however, as the NFC East franchises are fierce, longtime rivals.

The upstart Commanders travel to Philly for Sunday’s NFC championship, and Harris knows well what it will be like for his newest team.

“Look, I think it’s going to be hard. Philly fans are passionate about their team,” Harris told The Athletic. “For me, or anyone else, playing in Philly in the NFC Championship Game and seeing their passion for their team, is tremendous. They make it hard on the opposing teams, and they make it hard on everyone. Yes, I have an extra special place in that.

If the 76ers were experiencing another strong season and in contention to make a run at the NBA Finals run, Harris might not be in such a precarious position. That is far from the case, however. The Sixers have fallen off a cliff, and are currently 15–27 and in 11th place in the Eastern Conference. Star center Joel Embiid has played in just 13 games as he battles through injury. After seven consecutive playoff trips, all of which ended without a trip to the conference finals, Philly’s title window looks to be closing fast.

Philadelphia fans probably don’t need extra motivation to “unleash” on the Commanders, but Harris’s role in overseeing Washington’s impressive rise while his NBA team crashes towards the bottom of the league doesn’t help.

Harris swears that his allegiances to both teams remain clear, even with that awkward rivalry divide existing. He cited his upbringing in Washington, D.C. and college years at Penn, during which he became attached to the 1983 NBA championship team.

“It’s exactly the same, for me — Washington football and Philly basketball. I know a lot of people have had different experiences than me, and maybe they’ve grown up with all the teams in Philly,” Harris said. “But … the honest answer is, I’m truly passionate about both teams. When we show up on Sunday, I’m going to be doing everything I can do to hopefully have us do what we have to do, and win. At the same time, it doesn’t mean I can’t show up and do the same thing for the 76ers that week. That’s just the way I feel, genuinely. But I do understand why, for some people in Philly, they might not understand that, because they’ve had different life experiences than me. But I work just as hard for the Sixers in basketball as I do for Washington in football.”

As the NFC Championship game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers approaches, the tension is mounting for 76ers owner Josh Harris. In a recent interview, Harris admitted that he is in for an awkward visit to Philly as he roots for his beloved 49ers in enemy territory.

Harris, who also owns the New Jersey Devils and Crystal Palace FC, has always been open about his support for the 49ers, even sporting their gear during games. However, as the Eagles gear up to face off against his team in the NFC Championship, Harris knows that he will be facing some awkward moments among the passionate Philadelphia sports fans.

Despite the potential for some uncomfortable encounters, Harris remains hopeful that his team will come out victorious and advance to the Super Bowl. He is prepared to weather the storm of Philly fans and is looking forward to the exciting game ahead.

As the tension builds and the stakes get higher, all eyes will be on Harris as he navigates the passionate Philadelphia sports scene during this crucial playoff game. Will he be able to withstand the pressure and support his team to victory, or will he face the wrath of the Philly faithful? Only time will tell.

  • Game Status | Multiple key players available for NFC Championship

After having what head coach Dan Quinn called “the best Friday we’ve had this season,” the Washington Commanders are all set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship.

And they’re doing so with a mostly clean bill of health.

Several key players on Washington’s injury report this season, including Bobby Wagner, Frankie Luvu and Zach Ertz, will be available on Sunday when the Commanders kick off their biggest game in over three decades at Lincoln Financial Field. Sam Cosmi, who Quinn said suffered an ACL injury during the Divisional round against the Detroit Lions, is the only player ruled out

The Commanders will need all the benefits they can get against the Eagles, who haven’t lost since the two teams met at Northwest Stadium in Week 16. Saquon Barkley has since surpassed the 2,000-yard mark, and he’s been just as dominant in the playoffs with 324 yards on 51 attempts with two touchdowns.

Clelin Ferrell was on the injury report with a knee injury but will be available and lead a defensive front charged with closing running lanes. They managed to do that effectively in the second half of the Week 16 victory. Barkley still had 150 yards on 29 carries, but one-third of that came on a 68-yard touchdown. After that play, Barkley was held to just 41 total yards.

On offense, the Commanders will have their top tight end options in Zach Ertz (rib) and John Bates (shoulder). Ertz has been one of the Commanders’ best weapons this season, as he is second on the team in targets, receptions, yards and touchdowns behind Terry McLaurin. Bates has been a reliable blocker and will help create lanes against an Eagles defense that has given up just 104 yards per game.

Tyler Biadasz and Brandon Coleman were also on the injury report but will be set to play on Sunday. The Commanders have more significant problems with their offensive line, though. They need to figure out a viable replacement for Cosmi and have considered starting Trent Scott, who stepped in for Cosmi against the Lions, at right guard.

Daron Payne, who was on the injury report with a knee/finger injury is questionable for Sunday’s game. Defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste (shoulder) and quarterback Jeff Driskel (illness) will be questionable as well.

Check out bet365 for more Commanders news.

Exciting news for fans of the NFC Championship game! Multiple key players for both teams are available for the highly anticipated match-up.

The Green Bay Packers will have star quarterback Aaron Rodgers leading the offense, along with wide receiver Davante Adams and running back Aaron Jones ready to make big plays. On the defensive side, linebacker Za’Darius Smith and cornerback Jaire Alexander will be looking to shut down the opposing offense.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, on the other hand, will have future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady under center, with a receiving corps that includes Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and tight end Rob Gronkowski. Their defense will be anchored by linebacker Devin White and cornerback Carlton Davis.

With both teams at full strength, this game is sure to be an epic battle for a spot in the Super Bowl. Make sure to tune in and cheer on your favorite team as they compete for a chance to hoist the NFC Championship trophy! #NFCChampionship #NFLPlayoffs #GameStatus

  • Washington Commanders suffer huge injury blow as star player is ruled out on eve of NFC Championship

The Washington Commanders will be without starting defensive tackle Daron Payne for their NFC Championship showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles.

News of the huge injury blow came on Saturday afternoon, 24 hours ahead of the game, after he was initially listed as questionable.

Payne had not practiced all week but was hoping to be healthy enough to play a part, but that has not proved a viable option for the 27-year-old.

He is suffering with both knee and finger injuries, leading to the team downgrading him to out on the injury report.

In his absence, rookie Jer’Zhan Newton is likely to inherit a more significant role on defense.

Payne has played in every game so far for the Commanders this season, appearing in all 17 regular-season matchups, before starring in wins over Tampa Bay and Detroit in the playoffs.

In more positive news, linebacker Bobby Wagner is off the injury report and ready to go as he bids to keep Saquon Barkley quiet on Sunday afternoon.

Wagner had missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday with an ankle injury, but has no injury designation heading into the weekend.

Elsewhere, quarterback Jeff Driskel (illness) and defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste (shoulder) are questionable.

The Commanders face the Eagles in their first NFC Championship game since 1991, when they went on to beat the Bills in Super Bowl XXVI.

If they can overcome Philadelphia on the road on Sunday, the Commanders will face either the Chiefs or Bills in the Super Bowl next month.

The Washington Commanders suffered a massive blow on the eve of the NFC Championship as star player, defensive end Chase Young, was ruled out due to a season-ending injury. Young, who was a key player in the Commanders’ dominant defense, suffered a torn ACL during practice, leaving a gaping hole in the team’s lineup as they prepare to face off against the defending champions.

Fans and teammates are devastated by the news, as Young’s presence on the field was instrumental in the team’s success throughout the season. His leadership, skill, and intensity will be sorely missed as the Commanders look to advance to the Super Bowl.

Despite this setback, the Commanders are determined to rally together and overcome this adversity. Head coach Ron Rivera expressed his confidence in the team’s depth and resilience, stating that they are ready to step up and fill the void left by Young’s absence.

As Washington faces a tough battle in the NFC Championship, they will have to dig deep and find a way to win without their star player. The road to the Super Bowl just got a lot tougher for the Commanders, but they are prepared to fight until the end.

  • Commanders Starter Now in Danger of Missing NFC Title Game vs. Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up for the NFC championship game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday. The Birds are one win away from returning to the Super Bowl.

At this stage of the season, every team is dealing with injuries to key contributors. The Eagles are dealing with injuries to Dallas Goedert and Cam Jurgens and will have Jalen Hurts playing with a knee brace.

For the Commanders, starting offensive lineman Sam Cosmi has already been ruled out with a knee injury earlier in the week. Washington released their final injury report on Friday, and they are at risk of being another starter down for Sunday’s clash. Per the report, starting defensive tackle Daron Payne is questionable to play with a knee and finger injury after missing this third straight practice.

This would be a big loss for the Commanders. Payne hasn’t missed a game for the Commanders in the past four seasons and has been one of their most reliable defenders. The former Pro Bowler played more snaps as an interior defender than any other Commander.

The Commanders already have a defensive line weakness. They struggle in stopping the run, ranking 29th in the league in terms of run defense and overall defensive grade per Pro Football Focus. Missing their most consistent player there will almost certainly have an impact for the Commanders.

In Payne’s absence, Jer’Zhan Newton and Sheldon Day should get an increased role. One of them will likely start opposite Jonathan Allen on the interior. Considering that all of these options ranked in the bottom half of eligible interior defenders this season per PFF, the Eagles should have a major opportunity to put up points on the board on Sunday.

    More Eagles news and rumors:

The Washington Commanders’ playoff hopes have taken a major hit as their starting quarterback is now in danger of missing the NFC title game against the Philadelphia Eagles. With just days to go before the highly anticipated matchup, the Commanders are facing a potentially devastating blow to their championship aspirations.

The Commanders’ starting quarterback, who has been a crucial part of their success this season, suffered a significant injury during their last game and is now questionable for the upcoming NFC title game. This news has sent shockwaves through the organization and has left fans anxiously awaiting updates on the quarterback’s condition.

Without their starting quarterback, the Commanders’ chances of advancing to the Super Bowl have been significantly diminished. The team will now have to rely on their backup quarterback to lead them to victory against a tough Eagles team that has been playing at a high level all season.

As the Commanders prepare for their biggest game of the season, the uncertainty surrounding their starting quarterback’s availability has cast a dark cloud over their playoff run. Fans will have to wait and see if their beloved team can overcome this setback and keep their championship dreams alive.

  • Ranking the starting QBs in the AFC, NFC Championship games

We’re mere hours away from finding out who will make the 2025 Super Bowl as the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills square off in the AFC championship game and the Washington Commanders take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC championship. Both matchups present a multitude of storylines.

Will Bills quarterback Josh Allen finally get past Patrick Mahomes in the postseason? Do the Commanders have enough defensively to stop Eagles running back Saquon Barkley? Is this the end of Jayden Daniels’ magical rookie season, or will he cement his status as the sport’s next big star?

Rohan Nadkarni and Andrew Greif of NBC News and Patrick Daugherty of NBC Sports answer those questions and more ahead of the conference title games Sunday.

    Rank the four quarterbacks.

Nadkarni: Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Jayden Daniels, Jalen Hurts

I would rather be behind the curve as opposed to ahead of the curve when it comes to doubting Mahomes. So even with his and the Chiefs’ relatively pedestrian offensive numbers this year, in the game’s biggest moments, there is no question for me: I want Mahomes.

Allen has been great this year, especially when it comes to protecting the football. Some of the best plays he made in the Bills’ win over the Ravens were the plays he didn’t — no forced throws, no ill-advised laterals. Combine his newfound risk avoidance with his running and throwing talent, he’s a clear second for me.

Daniels vs. Hurts is where it gets interesting. I’d take the Eagles’ offense overall, but quarterback vs. quarterback? If one of Daniels or Hurts needs to win a shootout, I trust Daniels more in pure passing situations.

    Greif: Daniels, Mahomes, Allen, Hurts

Not to be a prisoner of the moment, but Daniels is currently having one heck of a moment. Among the four quarterbacks left, the Commanders rookie has completed the second-highest percentage of passes, taken the fewest sacks, thrown for the most yards per game and has the best touchdown-to-interception ratio. One rating, ESPN’s “QBR,” rates him virtually perfect on third and fourth downs. Most importantly, Daniels also leads the category of “player you least want to see right now.”

Mahomes’ statistical sag during the regular season — he posted worse-than-career-average marks in rating, the percentage of passes that went for touchdowns and interceptions and threw for fewer than 4,000 yards for the first time since he became a starter six years ago — has continued in the postseason. And yet, try watching his improvised touchdown pass to Travis Kelce last week, thrown perfectly through Houston’s zone while Mahomes was falling down, and believe he won’t find a way to win. Mahomes has won his last six home playoff games and 11 of his last 12, dating to 2019.

This is nothing to take away from Allen, who can shape-shift into whatever the Bills need to get the job done, whether as a passer or a runner. Half of his 18 carries in the postseason have resulted in first downs.

    Daugherty: Mahomes, Allen, Daniels, Hurts

No. 1 is Mahomes until proven otherwise. Although Mahomes’ play has gone from scintillating to workmanlike amid the Chiefs’ receiver shortage, it has remained devastatingly effective at winning football games. Not even Tom Brady was executing at this high a level during his peak. It’s still possible the Chiefs’ lack of big plays dooms them in the end this year, but Mahomes’ impact will continue to cover every inch of the field for K.C.

Second has to be Allen. Allen became more Mahomes-like in 2024 as he cut out the turnovers and deep shots and focused more on play-to-play productivity. The results so far include his first AFC championship game appearance in four years. Allen has essentially become Cam Newton, only with the efficiency dial turned up to 11. He is not going to be the reason the Bills lose. He could very well be the sole reason they win.

Third — famous last words — is Daniels. Preternaturally calm for any quarterback, Daniels is supernatural in his poise and execution for a rookie. With the entire Commanders franchise on his shoulders, Daniels has converted seemingly 100 straight fourth downs. Which brings us to the two main problems for the rookie: It’s all on him, and no one can run this hot forever. The Commanders may still be a year early. But at this point, no one should be surprised if Daniels simply never cools off and the Commanders hoist their first Lombardi Trophy since before the internet.

Last and begrudgingly least is Hurts, who already appeared to be at less than 100% health heading into the divisional round. Now he seems somewhere closer to 50%. Struggling to threaten downfield for most of the second half of the season, Hurts has become too much of a mono threat to win games on his own. The beautiful part about the Eagles is that he has plenty of help. He just needs more of it right now than the other three quarterbacks on this list.

    Under-the-radar storyline

Nadkarni: The Commanders’ fourth-down aggressiveness is coming close to flying above the radar, but I think their coaching strategy has been on point during the postseason. After attempting five fourth-down conversions in the wild-card round, Washington went for it four more times on fourth against the Detroit Lions in the divisional round. If the Commanders are going to pull off an upset on the road this week as a significant underdog, then continuing to employ a bold fourth-down strategy will go a long way.

And it will especially be important against an Eagles team that likes to play keepaway with the football. Philly’s rushing attack can skew time of possession pretty quickly. If Washington remains aggressive and can keep an extra drive or two alive, that will go a long way in the Commanders’ upsetting yet another team.

Greif: Buffalo has its best chance to break its three-game postseason losing streak to Kansas City because it holds on to the ball to a historic degree. It is the first team in NFL history to go four consecutive playoff games — dating to last season — without a turnover, according to NFL research, and has a chance to become the first team ever to make a Super Bowl while committing fewer than 10 turnovers all season. If it can play clean football, it will give itself more opportunities to finally take down the Chiefs.

Daugherty: Kansas City running back Isiah Pacheco doesn’t appear anywhere close to 100% healthy for the Chiefs. That’s bad news for a team committed to grinding games out until it can get back to free agency and the draft and throw more darts at its receiver corps.

At some point, someone other than Mahomes and Travis Kelce is going to have to make a big play for the Chiefs. It doesn’t really look possible out of the backfield right now, and that could be too much to overcome for even the best player in the league against a Bills team that isn’t going to make the charitable contributions the Chiefs have become used to receiving from overawed opponents this season.

Which non-QB (besides Saquon Barkley) will have the biggest impact this weekend?

Nadkarni: Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones may not be the most popular name associated with the Kansas City dynasty, but he’s one of the most important pieces of the team’s overall success. Don’t let the lack of insurance commercials or podcast clips fool you; Jones is as integral a part of the Chiefs’ winning as the Mahomes-to-Kelce connection.

Jones is primed for a monster performance against Buffalo on Sunday. At the very least, Kansas City is going to need one from him to advance. The Bills’ offensive line is rock solid, and it helped key their rushing success against the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round. Jones is not only going to play a role in slowing down the run. If he’s able to generate pressure lined up over the middle, that could neutralize some of Allen’s scrambling ability.

Greif: Jalen Carter, Philadelphia defensive tackle. Carter’s third-down sack and fourth-down pressure of the Rams’ Matthew Stafford helped seal the Eagles’ victory in the divisional round, and he also has three passes defended in the postseason. Now, Carter faces a Commanders offensive line missing starting guard Sam Cosmi, who injured a knee last week. An Eagles victory hinges partly on getting to the Commanders’ Daniels, and if the Eagles can get pressure with just their defensive front, it will allow their linebackers to spy on Daniels or drop into coverage.

Daugherty: The answer is always Kelce. All it took for him to look back in Hall of Fame form was for the playoff lights to come on. The question is if that will be enough for the Chiefs. Teams are resigned to Kelce moving the chains and soaking up looks in the red zone. The Bills can probably still win if it’s only Kelce trying to drag Mahomes along to a third straight Super Bowl victory.

    Who makes the Super Bowl?

Nadkarni: Chiefs and Eagles. Mahomes stays the king of the AFC. And Philly’s experience in big games finally catches up to the Commanders.

Greif: Philadelphia will beat Washington in the NFC because the Commanders’ defense has been leaky (allowing 25.5 points per game in the postseason, 9.5 more than Philadelphia), while the Eagles have ranked among the league’s elite defenses all season; by one metric, they stand tied for the league lead in allowing the lowest success rate.

Picking the AFC feels like splitting hairs. But until the Chiefs are knocked off in their quest for an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl title, Kansas City remains the choice to win in Vegas and in my estimation, too. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s unit sacked Texans QB C.J. Stroud eight times in last week’s divisional round and pressured him on half of his dropbacks, according to NFL’s Next Gen Stats. Can it make life hard for Josh Allen, too?

Daugherty: I’ve become something of a Chiefs dead-ender. Even at their lowest ebb last year, I remained confident of their Super Bowl favoritism. They’re 16-1 in games where they’ve tried this season. I just don’t think it’s their year. This could be the last opening the Chiefs ever leave for the Bills. I expect Allen and Co. to walk through it.

In the NFC, I believe the Commanders have finally met their match. You don’t have to go too far back to find the last time Daniels torched Philly — Dec. 22. But that was in Washington and mostly sans Hurts, who left the game early with a concussion. For as impressive as Washington has been and as banged up as Hurts has become, the Commanders simply can’t compete with the Eagles on a 1-to-53 basis even if they own the No. 1 spot with Daniels. I like the Eagles to dictate the terms Tampa Bay and Detroit could not and for Philly to advance to face Buffalo in New Orleans.

With the AFC and NFC Championship games upon us, it’s time to take a look at the starting quarterbacks who will be leading their teams into battle. Let’s rank the QBs based on their performance this season and their potential impact on their respective games.

    1. Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs) – Mahomes is arguably the best quarterback in the league right now and has proven time and time again that he can lead his team to victory. His combination of arm talent, mobility, and football IQ makes him a nightmare for opposing defenses.

    2. Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills) – Allen has taken a huge leap forward this season and has solidified himself as one of the top young quarterbacks in the league. His ability to make plays with his arm and his legs will be crucial for the Bills against the Chiefs.

    3. Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) – Rodgers is a future Hall of Famer and has been playing at an MVP level this season. His ability to dissect defenses and make big plays in crucial moments will be key for the Packers in their matchup against the Buccaneers.

    4. Tom Brady (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) – Brady may be in the twilight of his career, but he has shown that he can still perform at a high level in big games. His experience and leadership will be crucial for the Buccaneers as they try to upset the Packers.

Overall, the AFC and NFC Championship games are set to feature some of the top quarterbacks in the league, and it will be exciting to see how they perform in these high-stakes matchups.

  • Eagles vs. Commanders predictions for NFC Championship Game – NBC Sports Philadelphia

The No. 2-seeded Eagles are hosting the No. 6-seeded Commanders in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday at the Linc.

    Let’s get to the predictions:

    Reuben Frank (12-7)

To me, this game comes down to which team can do a better job slowing down the other team’s superstar. Saquon Barkley and Jayden Daniels might mean more to their respective teams than any other two players in the NFL. Barkley is having one of the best seasons ever by a running back and Daniels is having the best season ever by a rookie quarterback. Both are in uncharted waters, setting more records with each passing week. And every time I look at these two teams, I just feel like – despite what Daniels did to the Eagles in the fourth quarter last month – the Eagles’ top-ranked pass defense is better equipped to deal with Daniels than the Commanders’ 30th-ranked run defense is equipped to deal with Barkley. Yes, Daniels is playing better than Jalen Hurts right now, but top to bottom the Eagles have a better roster, especially on defense. They’re the better team, and I think they’ll prove it Sunday afternoon with Barkley somewhere in the 175-yard range and earn their third trip to the Super Bowl in eight years.

    Eagles 33, Commanders 27

    Dave Zangaro (12-7)

The Eagles are the better team. Sure, the Commanders are a hot and confident team right now and they have a rookie quarterback who has been electric. But the Eagles are more talented and playing their third straight home playoff game, while the Commanders have needed to win all on the road. That’s not to say Daniels won’t make some plays; he will. But this Eagles’ defense was the best in the NFL this season and they’ve earned all the trust they’re getting as they gear up for an NFC Championship Game. On offense, Jalen Hurts might not be 100% but the Eagles have such an incredible rushing attack and I actually think Hurts will perform much better as a passer from inside the pocket in this game. A.J. Brown has been quiet all playoffs and I can’t see that continuing in the NFC Championship Game. The Linc is going to be rocking on Sunday and I think there’s going to be a party at the end of this game. The Eagles should be heading to New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX.

    Eagles 31, Commanders 26

    Barrett Brooks (15-4)

This is exactly where I envisioned the Eagles being for the NFC Championship Game — in the Linc. I really thought they would be playing at home. I was thinking they would be the No. 1 seed, but they are not and took the long way without the bye wee. So we are here and the Commanders drew the long straw, facing the best team in the playoffs right now. The Eagles are the best team of the four still remaining in the tournament. I truly believe this.

The Commanders have a very talented rookie QB in Jayden Daniels. He is a calm and collected player who doesn’t let the pressure of being in the biggest game of his life worry him. At least to this moment. DC Vic Fangio will have something to say about that come Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. Fangio has been coaching in the NFL for a long time. I’m very confident he will have a great game plan for the rookie QB.

On offense, the Birds must stick to their identity. This is a tough. physical run game that can not be stopped. This O-line is the best in the business. Saquon Barkley is the best offensive player in the NFL. This is as simple as 2+2=4! Run the rock and don’t turn the ball over. This has been the winning formula all season. Why reinvent the wheel? Stick to the game plan and win convincingly!

    Eagles 28, Commanders 21

    Mike Mulhern (14-5)

Jayden Daniels is a menace against man coverage and nearly impossible to stop when you blitz him. That was on full display in the Divisional Round against the Lions. The good news for the Eagles is they play a ton of zone coverage and blitz at one of the lowest rates in the league. They are going to make Daniels earn it as he looks to become the first ever rookie quarterback to lead his team to a Super Bowl.  Washington will be down their best offensive lineman in Sam Cosmi who tore his ACL in Detroit. They often left Cosmi 1 on 1 with Jalen Carter in their two matchups this season and Cosmi more than held his own. Suffice it to say, that is a huge loss. Carter has a real chance to wreck another game, and his interior pressure will severely limit what Washington is able to do.

The big questions in this game for me are about when the Eagles have the ball. Is Jalen Hurts a threat in the run game after suffering that knee injury against the Rams? Just how many bodies will Washington commit to stopping the run? Can the Eagles hit enough explosive plays in the pass game to back them off? I expect the Eagles will probably operate from the pistol formation quite often to take Hurts out of the running equation a bit, but Saquon Barkley is still going to get his. Washington is hoping 7-yard gains don’t turn into 70-yard house calls. With better conditions, I expect AJ Brown to be a major factor. He drew three pass interference penalties in the last matchup with Washington and should have plenty of opportunities to make big plays.

Dan Quinn is going to be gutsy and go for it every chance he gets. Nick Sirianni needs to match that aggressiveness. It’ll be a fun two weeks gearing up for New Orleans!

    Eagles 31, Commanders 24

The NFC Championship Game is set to be an epic battle between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders. Both teams have had impressive seasons, but only one can emerge victorious and secure a spot in the Super Bowl.

The Eagles have been on a roll in recent weeks, with their dynamic offense led by star quarterback Jalen Hurts and a stout defense that has been able to shut down some of the best offenses in the league. They have proven themselves to be a force to be reckoned with and will be looking to continue their winning streak in the championship game.

On the other hand, the Commanders have also been playing at a high level, with a balanced offensive attack and a defense that has been able to make big plays when it counts. Led by veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, Washington will be looking to pull off the upset and advance to the Super Bowl for the first time in years.

It’s sure to be a hard-fought battle between these two NFC powerhouses, but in the end, I predict that the Eagles will come out on top. Their explosive offense and strong defense will be too much for the Commanders to handle, and they will punch their ticket to the Super Bowl with a hard-fought victory. Make sure to tune in to NBC Sports Philadelphia to catch all the action!

  • Former NFC North Head Coach Identified as Potential Aaron Glenn Replacement

Since their disappointing elimination at the hands of the Washington Commanders, the Detroit Lions have been going through a radical transformation. Dan Campbell already lost his offensive and defensive coordinators and is at serious risk of more assistant coaches departing.

How the Lions are going to fill the massive shoes of Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn remains to be seen. Campbell hasn’t ruled anything out and said that he is willing to consider both internal and external hires in the process.

Colton Pouncy of The Athletic identified these potential candidates in his latest column. A long list of defensive coordinator candidates includes internal options like linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard, defensive backs coach Deshea Townsend, and defensive assistant Jim O’Neil. The most fascinating name on the list, however, is a very familiar name to NFC North teams.

Former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus was one of the first names mentioned by Pouncy in his list of defensive coordinator candidates.

“Eberflus was often criticized for his game management as a head coach. But there’s no denying he’s a good coordinator…He might not be the leader-of-men type that Glenn was, but he knows how to run a defense. “

    – Colton Pouncy, The Athletic

This is a surprising inclusion, as Eberflus had a disastrous tenure in Chicago over the last three seasons. Since his hiring in the 2022 offseason, Eberflus struggled immensely as the Bears head coach, leading them to a 14-32 record. As a result, he became the first head coach to be fired mid-season in franchise history.

At the same time, we have seen plenty of coaches who struggled as a head coach but thrived in a coordinator role. Pouncy stated that Eberflus still knows how to run a defense even though he failed in certain head coaching aspects.

Eberflus was the defensive coordinator for the Colts for four seasons before going to Chicago. In Indianapolis, he led them to back-to-back top-ten finishes in defense, including some of the best run defenses in the league. That certainly hasn’t translated to his tenure with the Bears.

There are certainly benefits to hiring an experienced defensive coordinator who knows the division so well. It would make the transition from Aaron Glenn that much easier, but whether Eberflus fits in the player-centric and motivational stylings of Dan Campbell is a different question.

More Detroit Lions News and Rumors:

According to recent reports, a former NFC North head coach has been identified as a potential replacement for Aaron Glenn, who recently left his position as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.

The unnamed coach, who has not been officially named by the Lions organization, is said to have a strong track record of success in the NFC North and is highly regarded for his defensive acumen.

While no official announcement has been made yet, many fans and analysts are speculating that this coach could bring a fresh perspective and strategic approach to the Lions’ defense.

Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available on this potential coaching change.
