  • Herm Edwards Calls Jayden Daniels the NFC’s Most Complete QB

Earlier this week, You Better You Bet’s Nick Kostos stated that in his eyes, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is already the best quarterback in the NFC. That hot take got him blitzed on X, with dozens of people calling him out on it, but with some others agreeing as well. Clearly, there is a lot that needs to go into that kind of take, but Kostos maintained his convictions when discussing the topic with former NFL head coach and current ESPN analyst Herm Edwards this week, leading into Washington’s Divisional Round game against the Detroit Lions.

“I think Jayden Daniels, who obviously you know very well and you coached, I think he is already the best quarterback in the NFC” Kostos told Edwards, who coached Daniels at Arizona State before he transferred to LSU. “This doesn’t mean that the Commanders are going to win the conference, it’s not like a one-man game obviously, it’s a team game. I think Jayden is already the best quarterback in the conference and the best quarterback left standing in this NFC postseason. Do you agree that Jayden Daniels is the best QB in the NFC already?”

Edwards, who is always a very entertaining and intelligent listen, gave his perspective on Daniels and how well he has played so far to begin his NFL career.

“I will say this, he is the most complete quarterback,” said Edwards. “He can beat you with his legs and his arm, and I’ll tell you one thing he does not do, he doesn’t turn the ball over. The game isn’t going to be too big for him. He doesn’t have experience, but the only way you get experience is to what? To play. As we watch him continue to play, he is getting better and better.”

“You sound proud of the young man,” Kostos chimed in. “I talk to him once a week,” answered Edwards. “I’m very proud of him.”

It was very evident from the conversation that Edwards was emotional talking about Daniels, and you could tell in his voice that he was like a proud father watching his son grow into his own. Kostos could not get him to actually say that Daniels was the best quarterback in the NFC, as I don’t think Edwards wants to put that kind of take out there as his former coach at ASU, but saying he is the most complete quarterback is pretty close.

It is really hard to argue with either of them. Daniels has been unreal so far, leading the Commanders to their first playoff win in close to 20 years last week. He led a game-winning drive down the field in Tampa Bay on the road, which is something that is not easy at all to do, and to do it as a rookie is extremely impressive.

Going to Detroit and playing at Ford Field is not going to be an easy task this weekend, but Daniels has proven that he can go into enemy territory and win football games. It would be one of the biggest upsets in recent memory if he did, but he has the ability, and we’ll see if Kostos and Edwards are correct that he is the most complete and best QB in the NFC.

Listen to the You Better You Bet podcast for more insight, analysis and guest appearances ahead of the Divisional Round!

In a recent press conference, Arizona State head coach Herm Edwards made a bold statement about his quarterback Jayden Daniels, calling him the NFC’s most complete QB. Edwards praised Daniels for his accuracy, decision-making, arm strength, and leadership on and off the field.

Daniels has been a standout player for the Sun Devils this season, leading the team to several impressive victories and putting up impressive stats along the way. With his combination of skills and intangibles, Edwards believes that Daniels has what it takes to succeed at the next level and become a top quarterback in the NFC.

Fans and analysts alike are excited to see how Daniels will continue to develop and grow as a player, and many are already comparing him to some of the top quarterbacks in the league. With Herm Edwards in his corner, there’s no telling how far Jayden Daniels can go in his football career.

Who gets the NFC’s No. 1 seed and a first-round bye if the Vikings and Lions tie in Week 18?

The NFL script writers sure saved the best for last. The Lions host the Vikings on “Sunday Night Football” to end the regular season, the first regular-season game in NFL history between teams with 13-plus wins.

You couldn’t draw up a regular-season game with much more at stake than this one. The winner of the game will be the one seed in the NFC, win the NFC North and have home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. Neither team would have to play outdoors all postseason.

The loser will get the five seed in the NFC and go on the road in the wild-card round (either at the Rams, Buccaneers or Falcons), becoming the first 14-win team to ever play in that round. There’s a good chance the five seed’s path to the Super Bowl would include a road game at the NFC North champion in the divisional round and the No. 2 seed Eagles in the NFC Championship Game.

That’s a massive difference, considering one seeds have made 49 Super Bowls since the playoffs expanded to 10 teams in 1978, and five seeds have made a grand total of three.

OK but what if there’s a tie?

There has not been a tie since Week 13 of 2022 between the Giants and Commanders, but if you remember the Chargers-Raiders regular season finale in 2021, anything can happen. The Raiders won that game on a 47-yard field goal as time expired in overtime; otherwise it would have ended in a tie and the Steelers would have missed the playoffs.

A tie in Sunday’s Vikings-Lions game wouldn’t be quite that doomsday scenario. The Lions would get the one seed because they own the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Vikings courtesy of a 31-29 win in Minnesota in Week 7.

In the event of a tie, it also means Detroit’s result on Monday in San Francisco wasn’t completely meaningless. If the Lions had lost that game and tied in Week 18 vs. the Vikings, they would be the five seed.

I think Dan Campbell would sooner instantaneously combust than play for a tie in overtime, but if somehow the game ended in a tie, the Lions would be the beneficiaries.

In the event of a tie between the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions in Week 18, the NFC’s No. 1 seed and a first-round bye would go to the team that wins the tiebreaker. The tiebreaker scenario would involve looking at various factors such as head-to-head record, division record, conference record, strength of victory, and strength of schedule.

It is important to note that tiebreakers can be complex and may require multiple steps to determine the final outcome. Ultimately, the team that comes out on top in the tiebreaker process will secure the coveted No. 1 seed and a well-deserved first-round bye in the playoffs.

Stay tuned as the Vikings and Lions battle it out on the field in Week 18, with potentially high stakes on the line for both teams in the race for the NFC’s top seed.

  • How Detroit can clinch NFC’s No. 1 seed

How Detroit can clinch NFC’s No. 1 seed

With the Detroit Lions currently sitting at the top of the NFC standings, the possibility of clinching the No. 1 seed in the conference is within reach. Here are a few key steps the Lions can take to secure home-field advantage throughout the playoffs:

    1. Keep winning: The most obvious way for Detroit to clinch the top seed is to continue winning games. With a strong record already in place, the Lions must maintain their focus and momentum in order to secure victories in the remaining games of the regular season.

    2. Defend Ford Field: With a perfect record at home this season, the Lions must continue to dominate at Ford Field. By winning their remaining home games, Detroit can solidify their position as the top seed in the NFC and give themselves a significant advantage heading into the playoffs.

    3. Get healthy: Injuries are always a concern as the season progresses, but the Lions must prioritize getting key players healthy and back on the field. A fully healthy roster will give Detroit the best chance of securing the No. 1 seed and making a deep playoff run.

    4. Focus on the details: In close games, the little things can make a big difference. Whether it’s avoiding turnovers, converting on third downs, or excelling in the red zone, the Lions must pay attention to the details and execute at a high level in order to secure the top seed in the NFC.

By following these steps and staying focused on their ultimate goal, the Detroit Lions have a strong chance of clinching the No. 1 seed in the NFC and positioning themselves for success in the playoffs. Go Lions! #OnePride

  • Lions, Vikings to battle for NFC’s No. 1 seed, 1st-round bye

Lions, Vikings to battle for NFC’s No. 1 seed, 1st-round bye

The NFC’s No. 1 seed will come down to the final game of the regular season when the Detroit Lions host the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday night.

The winner takes the NFC North and gets a first-round playoff bye and home-field advantage until the Super Bowl. The loser becomes the No. 5 seed and must play on the road in the wild-card round. The Lions hold the tiebreaker if the teams enter with identical records and play to a tie.

The Vikings (14-2) held on for a 27-25 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday to set up the high-stakes showdown in Week 18. The Lions (13-2) visit the San Francisco 49ers (6-9) on Monday night in a rematch of the NFC title game. If they win, they have to beat the Vikings again or tie. Detroit beat Minnesota 31-29 in Week 7. If they lose or tie, they must defeat the Vikings.

The Philadelphia Eagles (13-3) clinched the NFC East and locked up the No. 2 seed with a 41-7 rout of the Dallas Cowboys. However, coach Nick Sirianni has a tough decision to make this week. Saquon Barkley is 101 yards away from breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season record for rushing yards in a season.

Sirianni has to decide whether to rest Barkley and most of his starters to prepare for the playoffs or let his star try for the 40-year-old record.

The Los Angeles Rams (10-6) clinched the NFC West and the Seattle Seahawks (9-7) were eliminated when the Commanders beat the Falcons 30-24 in overtime Sunday night. Washington (11-5) secured a wild-card berth with the win. The Commanders and the Packers (11-5) hold the final two NFC playoff spots.

Atlanta’s loss gave the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-7) control of the NFC South and dropped the Falcons (8-8) into second place. The Buccaneers would clinch the division with a victory or tie against New Orleans next Sunday.

Three teams in the AFC have already secured their seeds. The two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs (15-1) won the AFC West weeks ago and clinched the No. 1 seed.

The AFC East champion Buffalo Bills (13-3) are the No. 2 seed. The AFC South champion Houston Texans (9-7) are the No. 4 seed.

The Baltimore Ravens (11-5) would win the AFC North and get the No. 3 seed with a win or tie against Cleveland on Saturday or a loss or tie by Pittsburgh, which hosts Cincinnati on Saturday night.

If they don’t win the division, the Steelers have already clinched a wild-card berth. The Los Angeles Chargers (10-6) also secured a wild-card spot. They’ll be no lower than the sixth seed.

The final AFC playoff spot comes down to the Broncos (9-7), Dolphins (8-8) or Bengals (8-8).

Denver clinches with a win or tie against the Chiefs. The Dolphins need the Broncos to lose and they must beat the Jets on the road to get in. The Bengals must win and the Broncos and Dolphins have to lose for them to get in.

Exciting news for NFL fans as the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings are set to face off in a crucial matchup to determine the NFC’s No. 1 seed and secure a first-round bye in the playoffs. Both teams have been on a hot streak this season, with impressive records and standout performances from key players.

The Lions, led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, have been a force to be reckoned with on offense, while the Vikings have relied on their strong defense to shut down opponents. This game is sure to be a nail-biter as these two division rivals battle it out for the coveted top spot in the NFC.

Fans can expect a hard-fought game with playoff implications on the line. The winner of this matchup will have a significant advantage heading into the postseason, so both teams will be giving it their all to come out on top.

Be sure to tune in to see which team will emerge victorious and claim the No. 1 seed in the NFC. It’s sure to be a game you won’t want to miss!
