  • Listen to Ryan Cabrera’s new ‘On the Way Down’ with NSYNC, Hanson, more

Ryan Cabrera is turning back the clock to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his first album, Take It All Away — and he’s enlisted what he calls a team of “TRL all-star alums” to help him.

Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive premiere of the new version of the singer’s iconic 2000s pop song “On the Way Down,” re-recorded with NSYNC’s Joey Fatone, Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean, Hanson’s Taylor Hanson, Drake Bell, Walk the Moon’s Nicholas Petricca, and Hot Chelle Rae’s Nash Overstreet. Listen to it below.

“I got to have a bunch of my friends whose music I love join me on a song that basically started my career,” Cabrera tells EW. “It’s weird because I still think TRL happened yesterday, but it’s super cool that I’m able to do a new spin on this song that meant so much to me.”

But Cabrera didn’t originally plan on assembling the Avengers of early-aughts pop for the milestone anniversary of his debut single, which peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 4 on the TRL chart. He wanted to revamp “On the Way Down” on his own, but he struggled to do it “without losing the essence of why people loved it in the first place.”

“Finally, I just so happened to be talking to my buddy Nick from Walk the Moon, and I’m like, ‘Are you in L.A.? I’m in the studio right now, on like the 11th version of trying to figure out how to re-record ‘On the Way Down,’ if you want to come by and just lay down some stuff,’” Cabrera recalls. “So he swung by the studio and came up with this part, which is the top of the song, and it’s on the top of the choruses, and it’s very Walk the Moon.”

That riff changed everything. “I was like, ‘Dude, that’s the spark I’ve been waiting for,’” Cabrera says. “After that I was like, ‘Maybe I can get some other friends to do a part.’ I wanted to hear a song I wrote, but somebody else’s take on it.”

The roster of featured artists grew as Cabrera recorded last year. Hanson was the next recruit, and then Cabrera casually invited McLean to join the song while they were golfing together.

“After we golfed, we went straight to the studio and AJ did his Backstreet Boy thing on it,” Cabrera says. “I’ve always known that AJ can sing his ass off, but I didn’t know the extent of how crazy his vocals are until I saw him in the studio going nuts.”

Cabrera actually convinced Fatone to sign on by playing McLean’s vocals for him. “AJ and Joey toured together last year, and I got the chance to open some of the shows DJing,” he says. “But when I played this for Joey — I was like, ‘Joey, AJ did it, so now you’ve got to do it’ — he hears it and he’s like, ‘Damn, I didn’t even know he can hit the falsetto like that.’”

Cabrera loves how the track ended up totally different from the original, and he hopes fans feel the same way. “I do the first chorus, Taylor does the second verse, Drake does the second chorus, Nash is the third chorus, AJ’s just riffing, and Joey’s doing the bridge,” he says. “And then Walk the Moon is the top and the bridge. It’s a cool journey of different vocals on a song we’re celebrating 20 years later.”

Whether they’ll all ever get to perform the 2025 version live together remains to be seen — you try coordinating the schedules of a bunch of grown-up aughts legends. “That would be really tough,” Cabrera says with a laugh. “But you never know. I have some shows in L.A. coming up, so I’ll definitely hit up some of the boys, and hopefully they have enough time to come by.”

Even if he can’t get the rest of the guys to sing it with him, Cabrera plans to include “On the Way Down” on his set list for every show. “The fact that I’m not tired of it is what I’m the happiest about,” he says. “I don’t know why. It’s a song I’ve sung probably over 20,000 times, but I still enjoy every single time I get to perform it and watching people sing along. I’m also the guy who can watch the movie Hitch a hundred times and annoy my wife and everybody around me. But I love it.”

He’ll also never get sick of his friends sending him videos whenever they hear “On the Way Down.” “Literally every week I get texts from buddies and it’ll just be a video of them in the airport, their local grocery store, their Applebee’s, Walgreens, CVS, Home Depot — I don’t know what channel all these places are playing, but for some reason it still plays ‘On the Way Down’ every day,” he says. “It’s pretty awesome.”

One of those videos inspired another re-recording of “On the Way Down” that Cabrera will release soon — and that one goes hard. “About two years ago somebody sent me a video of this band called Like Ghosts doing a rock version of ‘On the Way Down,’ and it sounds like if 30 Seconds to Mars’ Jared Leto did it,” he says. “I ended up having the label get ahold of them, and so we re-recorded it. It’s like a complete rock version.”

He laughs, adding, “My friends who don’t necessarily listen [to my music] and are like, ‘Ryan, we love you, but your music’s a little soft for my taste,’ I texted a couple of ’em and I’m like, ‘Well, how about now?’ I sent them this version and they’re like, ‘Dude, that’s sick.’”

Cabrera is the king of nostalgia — just watch his appearance on The Hills: New Beginnings for proof of that. But he wants to make one thing very clear: His trademark gravity-defying, spiky coif is staying in the past, where it belongs. “That’s the only thing that will not be coming back — that 2004 hair,” he says. “It’s too expensive, all that hairspray. Too much work.”

Are you a fan of early 2000s pop music? Then you’re in for a treat! Ryan Cabrera has just released a new version of his hit song “On the Way Down” featuring members of NSYNC, Hanson, and more.

This nostalgic collaboration brings together some of the biggest names in pop music from the 2000s, creating a fresh take on a beloved classic. The energy and chemistry between these artists is undeniable, and their harmonies are sure to transport you back to a simpler time.

  • Justin Timberlake has surprising reaction when he spots *NSYNC members in concert crowd

Justin Timberlake was saying hi hi hi to his former *NSYNC bandmates.

The singer, 43, had some surprise guests in the audience while performing at the Thousand Palms, California, stop of his Forget Tomorrow World Tour.

JC Chasez, Lance Bass and Chris Kirkpatrick showed up to Timberlake’s concert, as seen in Bass’ Tuesday TikTok video.

The footage shows the artist onstage as he spots the trio in the crowd.

“Why didn’t you guys text me?” Timberlake mouths before laughing and moving to another part of the stage.

The clip cuts to Bass dancing, with the text reading: “On second thought, maybe we should have texted Justin before we showed up.”

Bass, 45, Chasez, 48, and Kirkpatrick, 53, continued to dance together in the audience as Timberlake performed onstage.

Missing from the action? Joey Fatone, 47, who’s currently on Broadway. His debut as Lance in “& Juliet” was Tuesday, taking over from actor Paulo Szot.

“In honor of Joey’s Broadway debut tonight,” Bass playfully wrote in the caption, “we had a date night without him.”

Bass also shared footage of the night on Instagram, with a photo of the four former boy-banders backstage at Timberlake’s show, plus a promotional pic announcing Fatone’s “& Juliet” run. “You guys are the sweetest I appreciate it !!!!” the thespian commented.

Fatone then shared his own Instagram post, photoshopping himself into the reunion pic.

“Thank you, Chris for putting me in the photo,” Fatone captioned the cheeky shot. “It is perfect! I was definitely there in spirit!”

Last week, Fatone told The Post that the group needs to “have a conversation” about a future reunion.

“That’s really what it boils down to. And we’re gonna hopefully do that soon. We keep saying soon, but it’s getting where it’s like either s—t or get off the pot,” he said. “Let’s be real.”

And with the 25th anniversary of *NSYNC’s blockbuster album “No Strings Attached” coming up in March, Fatone thinks that it’s time for “that moment of the five of us sitting down going, ‘OK, what does this look like? Do we want to do a tour? Is it just a tour? Is it an album? Is it an EP? Are we not going to do anything? Like, what exactly are we going to do?’”

Chasez would also be down for a reunion.

“You go where inspiration is, right?” he said during a November appearance on the “LadyGang” podcast. “I’m not one of those people that fakes it very well. Whenever I’ve tried to fake it, I’ve always felt s–tty about it, to be honest with you.”

But in July, TMZ reported that Timberlake was allegedly the big holdout on a reunion tour.

The outlet claimed that insiders revealed the “SexyBack” star and his team did not respond to multiple proposals for an *NSYNC stadium tour this summer, despite the other members showing interest.

Justin Timberlake, former member of *NSYNC, had a surprising reaction when he spotted his former bandmates in the crowd at his recent concert.

During a performance of one of his hit songs, Timberlake paused mid-song and pointed into the audience. The crowd erupted in cheers as Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick were shown on the big screen, smiling and waving at their former bandmate.

Timberlake couldn’t contain his excitement and invited his former bandmates to join him on stage. The group performed a medley of *NSYNC hits, much to the delight of the audience.

Fans were thrilled to see the reunion of the iconic boy band and the camaraderie between the members was evident as they shared the stage once again.

It was a heartwarming moment that reminded everyone of the special bond between *NSYNC members, and left fans hoping for more reunions in the future.

    2. But wait, Lance wasn’t the first fifth member of ‘N Sync!

That role was originally played by Jason Galasso, who had known Fatone from choir in their high school days and was dabbling in the singing-group arts when he got a page (1990s, FTW) out of nowhere from his old acquaintance. Coincidentally, he also knew Chasez because, as Galasso explained on The Digital Get Down podcast in 2019, he “used to kind of hang out with The Mickey Mouse Club” stars like Chase Hampton and Keri Russell.

After they “locked in perfectly” on a rendition of Boyz II Men‘s “End of the Road,” that was it, he was in the as-yet unnamed group. “I remember I’m like, ‘Dang, Justin’s young!’” he recalled. “But then I heard him sing, I’m like ‘Oh, it doesn’t matter how old he is, he can sing his butt off.”

At the same time, however, the bass singer was also in a three-man group called Unreal, “so I’m still trying to decide, you know, what I want to do, what direction I want to go in as far as which group I want to go with,” Galasso, who’s in the mortgage loan business these days, recalled. “Because I remember, the first time Lou Pearlman brought over some music, he was thinking about the type of music that we would be doing, and I come from an R&B, hip-hop background. That’s my love, my heart, my soul.”

So when Pearlman came over with “this European-style techno, I was just like, ‘Hmm, okay.’” So, he went ahead and traveled with the other guys in Unreal to Atlanta to cut a demo, which he thought turned out great.

Meanwhile, ‘N Sync was starting to fashion a look and they were talking about putting a showcase together for Disney’s Pleasure Island. They even took a field trip to Shaquille O’Neal‘s house to check out his home studio in Orlando, but they had not yet recorded any music. And, more consequentially for Galasso, they hadn’t yet signed any contracts.

Pretty soon, both groups were trying to get him to sign. Galasso said he took the dueling contracts to a lawyer and, while the deal with the trio was pretty standard issue, Pearlman had himself written into the ‘N Sync contract as a sixth member, and that contract was “thick as a phone book.” He felt that the other members of ‘N Sync were more gung-ho than he was about the deal—which was true, because they all proceeded to sign it, whether they truly understood what it entailed or not.

So Galasso ultimately went with the group that wasn’t ‘N Sync.

*NSYNC Skips Joey Fatone’s Broadway Debut for Justin Timberlake Show

Fans of the iconic boy band *NSYNC were left disappointed when it was revealed that the group would not be attending Joey Fatone’s Broadway debut in “Little Shop of Horrors” on Thursday night. Instead, the members were spotted at fellow bandmate Justin Timberlake’s show in New York City.

Many fans expressed their disappointment on social media, with some calling out the group for not supporting Fatone in his new venture. However, others defended the decision, pointing out that the members have busy schedules and may not have been able to attend.

Despite the absence of his bandmates, Fatone received rave reviews for his performance in “Little Shop of Horrors,” with many praising his comedic timing and stage presence. Hopefully, *NSYNC will make it up to Fatone by showing their support in future performances.
