  • Four numbers to know ahead of Iowa-Washington WBB


    It’s fair to say that the Hawkeyes season is hanging on by a thread. After another deflating loss, this time in Eugene, the Iowa women’s basketball team sits at 12-7 overall, with a 2-6 record in Big Ten play. Jan Jensen and Co. will look to salvage something from the west coast trip, facing Washington on Wednesday night in Seattle. It will be the 8th all-time meeting between the two programs, with the Huskies leading the series 5-2. Iowa will be looking to avoid their first six-game losing streak since 1999.

    HawkeyeReport takes a look at some important numbers to know going into Thursday’s matchup between the Hawkeyes and Huskies.

    53.3% – Washington effective field goal percentage

    The Huskies offense is one of the most efficient in the entire country, with their 53.3% effective field goal percentage ranking 18th-best. They rank 1st in the Big Ten in three-point percentage (36.6%), 4th in two-point percentage (52.4%) and 3rd in overall field goal percentage (46.9%). Washington has shot better than 45% from the floor in 12 of their 19 games.

    Over their last six games, the Huskies are averaging 79.5 points per game, while shooting 50.7% (187/369) from the floor and 42.5% (51/120) from three-point range. They’ve gone 4-2 over that stretch, including a win over Illinois, with their losses coming against Michigan State and Michigan.

    18.2% – Washington free-throw rate

    As effective as the Huskies have been on the offensive end of the floor, free-throwing shooting has been nearly nonexistent. Washington ranks 357th out of 362 teams in free-throw attempt rate (18.2%) and are averaging just 11.16 attempts per game. Their 212 free-throw attempts rank dead last in the Big Ten, with UCLA (252) and Purdue (213) sitting ahead of them in 16th and 17th. It is worth noting that when the Huskies do get to the line, they make their free ones, ranking second in the Big Ten in free-throw percentage (77.8%).

    84 – Combined made threes by Washington guards Sayvia Sellers and Elle Ladine

    These two can flat out shoot the basketball and are the best three-point shooting duo in the Big Ten. Both guards, Sayvia Sellers and Elle Ladine have combined for 84 made threes this season, which is eight more than any other duo in the conference. They both make them at a high percentage too, with Sellers at 44.7% and Ladine at 37.2%.

    An All-Pac 12 Freshman Team selection last season, Sayvia Sellers has knocked down 3+ threes in eight games and has made 18 over her last five games. As for Elle Ladine, she has made 3+ threes in six games, including a six made triples against Northwestern.

    70.1% – Washington shooting percentage on close 2’s

    Whether it’s frontcourt or backcourt players, Washington is absolutely elite when it comes to finishing around the basket. Their 70.1% shooting percentage within 4.5 feet of the basket ranks amongst the best in the country and leads the Big Ten, even outpacing UCLA (66.3%).

    6’4 forward Dalayah Daniels leads the way, converting 68 of her 91 (74.7%) looks in close, while Eastern Michigan transfer, 6’3 forward Tayra Eke is 43 of 65 (66.1%) from within 4.5 feet. Guard Sayvia Sellers has also been very impressive, getting 36 of her 46 (78.3%) shot attempts to fall. All seven players that have made at least ten field goals from within 4.5 feet are shooting better than 60.0% from that area.

  • Tulsa shelters seek clothing and monetary donations as guest numbers rise


    TULSA, OKLA. (KTUL) — Emergency shelters are working together to keep people warm, but with these shelters currently hosting more people, they’re in need of donations.

    “The other shelters around, we communicate with them and collaborate with them in order to help as many people as we can safely and efficiently,” said Ryan McCullough, the Director of Guest Services at the John 3:16 Mission Downtown shelter location.

    A collaboration between multiple organizations in Tulsa to help keep residents warm as another round of freezing weather hits the state.

    “If it feels like 32 or colder, our warming station immediately goes into activation,” said McCullough.

    One of those organizations is John 3:16 Mission, a nonprofit that opened a warming station in their downtown emergency shelter.

    “They’re out in the cold, they need somewhere to come to warm up for a little while and be safe. They can come here and that’s available 24-7,” said McCullough.

    Another warming station is at Tulsa Day Center.

    CEO of the center, Mack Haltom says that, unlike the last cold snap, there aren’t any overflow shelters, so people will have to rely entirely on the emergency shelters for overnight warmth.

    “We’re going to really have to hopefully make room with as many people as we can to get them inside during the day and during our night shelter, and I know the other shelters will be having the same kind of issues,” said Haltom.

    The other shelters that are opening their doors include the Salvation Army Center of Hope and Youth Services of Tulsa.

    “With the increased numbers, I think, of course, increased needs that we need for the Tulsa Day Center, keeping our building open, the costs of utilities, and the supplies we need to help people take care of people,” said Haltom.

    Haltom says people can help them by donating warm clothing, and they are also taking financial donations to keep the building open and heated.

    John 3:16 Mission is asking for towels and scrubs, hand warmers, emergency blankets, gloves, and socks, and just like Tulsa Day Center, they’re also taking monetary donations.

    Shiba Inu, the second-largest meme coin, has seen its price edge upward, and its token burn mechanism has also relayed a similar trend. According to the Shiba Inu burn tracker Shibburn.com, the number of SHIB tokens burned has risen by about 21.76% in the past 24-hour timeframe. This increase in SHIB burns is looking positive for the meme coin’s price going forward, but the actual burn numbers reveal a persistent challenge in achieving significant progress.

    Shiba Inu has witnessed a lackluster burn activity in the past two weeks, stemming from a similar lackluster price action, activity, and interest in the cryptocurrency. As such, daily SHIB burns have perambulated around 21 million SHIB tokens burned, which is far less than the typical daily burn activity required for bullish momentum.

    According to Shibburn.com, the last 24 hours were highlighted by 26,221,803 $SHIB tokens collectively sent to the SHIB burn wallets, which represents a 21.76% increase from the 21 million SHIB tokens burned in the previous 24-hour timeframe.

    Despite the 21.76% rise in burn activity, the total number of tokens burned remains underwhelming. This amount, though an improvement over previous days in the past few weeks, pales in comparison to the huge circulating supply of Shiba Inu, which currently sits at more than 589 trillion tokens. To put this into perspective, even at this improved burn rate, it would take decades to make a significant dent in the token’s supply.
