In a recent statement, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose emphasized the importance of every vote in the upcoming 2024 local races. With 23 races taking place across the state, LaRose highlighted the significant impact that each individual’s vote can have on the outcome of these elections.

On a 25-degree night, Ohio State’s quarterback supplied one of the best games of his career, torching the Volunteers and looking nothing like the guy who sputtered against Michigan.
“I was fired up about our game plan,” Howard said, “I think we did a hell of a job executing it.”
Do tell, why so fired up?
“I mean, you saw it,” Howard said, providing a dodging answer that really didn’t need elaboration.
Yeah, we saw it. We saw offensive coordinator Chip Kelly dial up an aggressive attack intent on putting the Buckeyes’ perimeter players into space and calling on Howard to let it rip, to the tune of 311 yards.
“Will,” Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said, “was excellent.”
As excellent as ever.
Is it fair to call Will Howard ‘Just A Guy?’
Ohio State’s offensive line kept Tennessee’s vaunted defensive front at bay. By the end of four quarters, Tennessee’s defensive backs were cooked, utterly outclassed by the Buckeyes’ receivers.
“I think we’ve got the three best receivers in the country, but I’m a little biased,” Howard said.
Biased, but not all that off base. Many would agree that Ohio State, collectively, features the nation’s best receiving corps.
What of its quarterback, though? Is Howard good enough for Ohio State to win a national championship?
The short answer is yes, particularly when you factor in his unmatched supporting cast of skill-position playmakers.
Examine the eight remaining quarterbacks in the playoff. If you’re selecting a quarterback to go win a national championship, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel would come off the board first.
After that, give me Howard.
He’s no Justin Fields or C.J. Stroud, but Howard rates as an improvement over Kyle McCord, the Buckeyes’ quarterback last season.
Despite lofty stats, Howard generated limited buzz for the Heisman Trophy. He falls under the “Just A Guy” heading of quarterbacks. That label comes off a tad harsh to quarterback who’s had Howard’s season.
He ranks second nationally in completion percentage (73.2%) and fifth for touchdown passes (29). He’s third in quarterback efficiency, outranking Oregon’s Gabriel, Miami’s Cam Ward, Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders in that category, the three finalists for the Davey O’Brien Award, given to the nation’s best quarterback.
‘Blessing’ for Ohio State to get rematch with Oregon
A quarterback’s lowlights are remembered as much as his highlights, depending on a game’s outcome, and that might influence perception of Howard. He threw two interceptions in Ohio State’s loss to Michigan. One set up the Wolverines at the 2-yard line for their lone touchdown. The other occurred inside the red zone and thwarted a Buckeyes scoring opportunity. Howard played at his worst in Ohio State’s biggest regular-season game.
That wasn’t the case when the Buckeyes lost to Oregon. Howard threw for a season-high 326 yards, but the play most remembered most was his moment-too-late slide at the end of a scramble, while time expired. If he had slid a couple of steps sooner, the Buckeyes would have had an attempt at a long game-winning field goal.
“The way that last (game against Oregon) ended doesn’t sit right with me,” Howard said. “It still doesn’t. It still bugs me. And I’m just thankful for the opportunity that we get another crack at them.
“In life, you don’t get a lot of second chances. The fact that we’re getting a second chance here is a blessing.”
Howard’s execution of Ohio State’s game plan against Tennessee ensured that second chance materialized. Deliver a few more playoff victories, and Howard would alter the narrative that he’s “Just A Guy.” Win a national championship, and Howard would become “That Dude.”

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The fourth quarter had just begun when the chants around the Horseshoe started.
“We want Oregon.”
In the tunnel underneath the Ohio State student section, Rose Bowl staffers readied red roses for the locker room celebration, as Brutus emerged from the catacomb with the first bouquet.
The Ohio State backups still had several minutes to play before Tennessee was officially put away. But the Buckeyes had already mentally moved on to their looming rematch against Oregon in the Rose Bowl quarterfinal on New Year’s Day.
With its emphatic 42-17 victory over the Volunteers in the first round of the College Football Playoff, Ohio State set the stage for a second showdown with the Ducks, who defeated the Buckeyes 32-31 in Eugene on Oct. 12 on the way to an undefeated regular season, Big Ten championship and the CFP’s No. 1 overall seed.
The Buckeyes had every chance to win that October game. But with Ohio State driving in the final seconds, star freshman wideout Jeremiah Smith was flagged for a controversial offensive pass interference call, pushing the Buckeyes out of field goal range. Quarterback Will Howard then inexplicably slid as time expired, ending the game at the Oregon 26-yard line.
“We’ve all been looking forward to this one and for another crack at these guys,” said Howard, who had a rose stem in his teeth as he congratulated teammates coming off the field after the victory over Tennessee. “The way that last one ended doesn’t sit right with me. It still bugs me.”
The Ohio State defense has been a different unit since that first crack at the Ducks.
Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw for 341 yards and two touchdowns, as Ohio State’s talented defensive front failed to sack him once and generated pressures just twice. Oregon’s wide receivers also won their one-on-one matchups, most notably against cornerback Denzel Burke, resulting in a barrage of big plays. But since then, the Buckeyes have dominated the opposition. Since the Oregon game, they rank No. 1 nationally in fewest yards allowed per play (3.8), yards given up per game (234.4) and points surrendered per game (11.7).
“We’re looking forward to the opportunity because it was not a great game for us,” defensive coordinator Jim Knowles said of the first Oregon outing. “Quite frankly, the guys got pissed off and it led to a run for us. They used that game as motivation.”

Ohio State steamrolls Tennessee to set up Oregon rematch
Ohio State impresses in a thumping 42-17 win over Tennessee to set up a date with Oregon in the College Football Playoff.
Ohio State’s explosive offense came out motivated Saturday night after a listless performance in its regular-season finale, a 13-10 loss to Michigan. The Buckeyes also showed what they’re capable of when, as offensive coordinator Chip Kelly put it, they’re “clicking on all cylinders.”
Facing one of the SEC’s top defenses, the Buckeyes produced touchdowns on their first three drives. Tennessee couldn’t cover Smith, who scored a pair of touchdowns and had a game-high 103 receiving yards. The Vols also couldn’t tackle running back TreVeyon Henderson, who generated 134 yards of offense with two scores.
“We called this game more aggressively — there’s no question about that,” coach Ryan Day said. “But also, I think we did some things that maximized what we have in terms of our strengths and minimized our deficiencies.”
Ohio State maximized Howard and the downfield passing attack by featuring arguably college football’s top receiving duo in Smith and wideout Emeka Egbuka, who added 81 receiving yards on five receptions.
Howard responded to the challenge and his poor play against Michigan by completing 24 of 29 passes for 311 yards. His lone interception came on Ohio State’s fourth drive with the Buckeyes already up 21-0. Howard tried to zip a pass to Smith at the back of the end zone. Officials could’ve called defensive pass interference on Tennessee linebacker Arion Carter, who was draped all over Smith. Instead, Tennessee’s Will Brooks was able to corral the tipped ball for the pick before crashing out of bounds.
“I liked the call, I liked how aggressive we were,” Day said. “When you call the game aggressively, something like [that] happens. You have to be willing to live with it.”
The contrast of these past two games underscored how Ohio State’s offense is at its best when it’s aggressive. Combine that with a defense playing as well as any in college football, and it’s easy to see why Buckeyes will head to Pasadena with revenge on their mind — and a national championship run in their sights.
“Yeah, I’m excited, man,” Howard said. “We’re going to go out there and have some fun and let it rip.”
After a disappointing loss to Oregon earlier in the season, Ohio State football is ready for redemption in their upcoming rematch. With a renewed sense of focus and determination, the Buckeyes are gearing up to face the Ducks once again.

In the movie Kerry Washington plays U.S. Army Maj. Charity Adams Earley, a trailblazing officer of the Women’s Army Corps.
The 6888th Central Postal Battalion was assigned to sort through a three-year backlog of undelivered mail that amounted to 17 million pieces to and from soldiers and their families.
Adams Earley, who was born in 1918 and grew up in South Carolina, came to Ohio to attend Wilberforce College to study math, Latin and physics. She returned to South Carolina to be a schoolteacher but in the summers she took graduate classes at Ohio State University, according to her biography published by the National Women’s History Museum.
In 1942, she joined the Women’s Army Corps and became a member of the first officer candidate school. In 1944 Adams Earley was picked to be the commanding officer of the first Black WAC unit sent overseas.
The Netflix movie, directed by Tyler Perry, tells the story of Adams Earley and her battalion’s grit and resourcefulness during the mail sorting assignment.
She left the service in 1948, having achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel. Adams Earley returned to Ohio State University to finish her graduate degree and later work for the Veterans Administration in Cleveland.
She moved to Switzerland where her husband, Stanley Earley II, was studying to become a doctor. The couple returned to the states in 1952, settled in Dayton and had two children.
Adams Earley became active in Dayton civic affairs, serving on the boards of Sinclair Community College, American Red Cross Dayton chapter, Dayton Metro Housing Authority, Dayton Opera Company and Dayton Power & Light Co.
