  • Patriots request defensive coordinator interview with Dolphins OLB coach Ryan Crow

The Patriots want to talk to one of head coach Mike Vrabel’s assistants from Tennessee about a role on the staff in New England.

Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports that the team has requested permission to interview Dolphins outside linebackers coach Ryan Crow for their defensive coordinator position. Crow joined the Dolphins for the 2024 season.

Crow spent the previous six seasons working under Vrabel with the Titans. He was a defensive assistant and an assistant special teams coach before moving on to the outside linebackers role for his final three seasons in Nashville.

The Patriots are expected to hire former Titans assistant John Streicher and the interest in Crow suggests they may not be done targeting Vrabel’s former assistants.

The New England Patriots have reportedly requested an interview with Miami Dolphins outside linebackers coach Ryan Crow for their vacant defensive coordinator position. Crow, who has been with the Dolphins since 2019, has been instrumental in developing young talent on the defensive side of the ball.

With the Patriots looking to rebuild their defense after a disappointing season, Crow’s experience and expertise could be just what they need to turn things around. It will be interesting to see if Crow accepts the interview and potentially joins forces with Bill Belichick in New England.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story. #Patriots #Dolphins #RyanCrow #DefensiveCoordinator

  • Former Oregon OLB Emar’rion Winston announces transfer portal destination

Former Oregon OLB Emar’rion Winston announces transfer portal destination

Former Oregon Ducks outside linebacker Emar’rion Winston announced his transfer portal destination, as the Oregon native will be joining up with former Duck assistant Matthew Powledge and teammate Tyler Turner at Baylor.

Winston announced his decision via social media on Monday.

Winston, listed at 6-foot-4, 255 pounds, was a former four-star recruit out of high school, was the No. 28 EDGE rusher coming out of the 2022 class, and ranked as the No. 4 player in Oregon.

During the 2024 season, Winston was a constant threat on third down and longs, playing one or three technique on the interior of the defensive line, which was a new move compared to his previous seasons with the Ducks. In 2023, Winston played 244 snaps as well, but mostly playing as a stand-up edge rusher, as his recruiting profile indicated.

Winston played a season-high 32 snaps against Illinois earlier this season.

Winston finished the 2024 season with eight tackles and one PBU. Winston finished with 27 tackles and 1.0 tackles for loss and two PBUs during his Oregon career, which lasted for 30 games.

Here was 247Sports’ Brandon Huffman’s scouting report of Winston as a high-school recruit: “After shedding weight from his junior year, Winston showed more explosion, athleticism, twitch and suddenness as a senior. Can play as a stand up edge or put his hand down and be used as a pass rusher but also his linebacker background gives him the opportunities to cover backs and tight ends in the passing game. A three-down linebacker, Winston’s tackling ends plays and he can made violent hits to quickly stop the ball-carrier. Finds ways to get to the ball to force or recover fumbles and has taken several back for long gains. Plays with an energy and an edge and all the way through the whistle. Projects as multi-year Power 5 starter.”

Former Oregon outside linebacker Emar’rion Winston has announced his transfer portal destination, and it’s a big one. The talented defender will be taking his talents to the University of Southern California.

Winston, a former four-star recruit out of Portland, Oregon, had a solid career with the Ducks, recording 46 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and one interception in his time with the team. However, he has decided to pursue a new opportunity with the Trojans.

USC is getting a versatile and athletic linebacker in Winston, who has the ability to make an impact both against the run and in pass coverage. With his combination of size, speed, and instincts, he should be a valuable addition to the Trojans’ defense.

Winston will have to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer rules, but he will have two years of eligibility remaining starting in the 2023 season. USC fans are excited to see what he can bring to the team and how he can help them compete for championships in the future.

  • Patriots Waiving OLB Yannick Ngakoue

    Patriots Waiving OLB Yannick Ngakoue

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots are waiving OLB Yannick Ngakoue

    Yannick Ngakoue

Ngakoue, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016 out of Maryland. He played out the final year of his four-year, $3.48 million contract before the Jaguars used the franchise tag on him.

However, Ngakoue refused to play for the Jaguars in a contract dispute and they later traded him to the Vikings. He lasted just a few months in Minnesota before he was traded to the Ravens that same season.

As an unrestricted free agent in 2021, Ngakoue signed a two-year, $26 million deal with the Raiders. He was traded to the Colts after one year in exchange for CB Rock Ya-Sin.

Ngakoue signed a one-year, $10.5 million deal with Chicago last August. He returned to the Ravens in September and signed to the active roster in October. Baltimore put Ngakoue on waivers in November when New England claimed him.

In 2024, Ngakoue has appeared in five games for the Ravens and six games for the Patriots and recorded 14 total tackles and 1.5 sacks.

The New England Patriots have made the tough decision to waive outside linebacker Yannick Ngakoue. Ngakoue was acquired by the Patriots in a trade earlier this season, but unfortunately, he has not lived up to expectations on the field.

Despite his talent and potential, Ngakoue has struggled to make an impact in New England’s defense. The Patriots have decided to part ways with the veteran linebacker in order to make room for other players who can contribute more effectively.

It’s always tough to see a player released, especially one with Ngakoue’s caliber, but the Patriots are clearly focused on making the necessary changes to improve the team’s performance. We wish Ngakoue all the best in his future endeavors and hope he lands on his feet with another team in the NFL.

  • Buccaneers signing OLB Shaquil Barrett

    Buccaneers signing OLB Shaquil Barrett

Barrett, who was released by Tampa Bay at the end of last season, signed with the Dolphins in free agency, but then announced July 20 that he was retiring. That decision didn’t last, as Barrett applied to be reinstated at the end of November, a request that Miami initially declined.

The Dolphins ultimately allowed Barrett to be waived, clearing the path for him to sign with another team this season, and the linebacker has quickly found a new home in his old home.

Before his temporary retirement, Barrett had played the previous five years with the Buccaneers, earning both of his two Pro Bowl nods while in that jersey (2019, 2021). In the first of those Pro Bowl campaigns Barrett recorded a league-high 19.5 sacks.

He has played nine seasons in the NFL overall between the Broncos and Buccaneers, accumulating 400 tackles, 125 QB hits, 73 tackles for loss, 59 sacks, 22 forced fumbles and three interceptions in 131 games. Now, Barrett has taken the next step to officially playing a 10th season.

As Barrett will directly join the 53-man roster, the Buccaneers will have the choice of whether to make him active for Sunday’s crucial game against the Carolina Panthers, and if so how much to use him. With two games left in the season and the Falcons ahead via tiebreaker in the NFC South standings, it’s a must-win contest for Tampa Bay. Whether Barrett will be ready to contribute on such a short turnaround remains to be seen.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have bolstered their defense by signing outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett to a one-year deal. Barrett, who previously played for the Denver Broncos, brings a wealth of experience and talent to the Buccaneers’ defense.

With his ability to rush the passer and make plays in the backfield, Barrett is expected to make an immediate impact for the Buccaneers. His addition to the team adds depth to the linebacker position and gives the defense another weapon to disrupt opposing offenses.

Fans of the Buccaneers are excited to see Barrett in action and are hopeful that his presence on the field will lead to more sacks, turnovers, and ultimately, more wins for the team. Stay tuned for updates on how Barrett’s signing will impact the Buccaneers’ defense in the upcoming season.

  • Broncos OLB Nik Bonitto Staying Positive After Being Shut Out in L.A.

Broncos OLB Nik Bonitto Staying Positive After Being Shut Out in L.A.

By losing to the Los Angeles Chargers in such a cumbersome manner, the Denver Broncos have lost a vital foothold. But the Broncos still understand they’ve got to deliver just one more win, with two chances to do so.

Broncos rush linebacker Nik Bonitto seemed determined not to overly obsess over the team bursting its own balloon on Thursday night. Even though Bonitto was shut out by Chargers left tackle Rashawn Slater, the bigger goal takes precedence.

“I mean, just look at the game. It was a lot on us that we could have controlled what happened that went wrong in the second half,” Bonitto said via DNVR‘s Zac Stevens. “So, you can’t be discouraged. So, if anything, we’ve just got to go back—we’ve got to go look at the film—get what we need to fix and just win this last two.”

Bonitto’s determination to get the Broncos over the line and into the playoffs is commendable, especially given that the 25-year-old is firmly in the mix for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. Such individual hype can be intoxicating and could very quickly go to Bonitto’s head, but the former second-round pick has a laid-back personality, which comes in handy when brushing off all the increased attention.

“It’s pretty dope—I mean you just gotta kind of keep it one game at a time,” Bonitto said via Stevens. “We got these last two games to finish up with so it’s just being able to go out there as a defense and have good performances, and just continue winning is the main thing.”

Despite being held without a sack at So-Fi, it’s still safe to say that Bonitto’s performances are the least of Sean Payton’s problems. Indeed, it could be argued that Payton has gotten a bit too greedy of late.

Payton’s decision to agree to the NFL flexing the Broncos’ Week 16 tilt vs. Chargers to Thursday night backfired on him, as evidenced by Vance Joseph’s defense appearing a little gimpy on a short-week turnaround.

Furthermore, getting too aggressive before halftime and playing into the shrewd hands of Jim Harbaugh cost the Broncos three points. But perhaps most importantly, the botched clock management and gunner Tremon Smith’s subsequent sloppy penalty flipped the momentum in a game the Broncos seemed to have well under control.

There are lessons to be learned for sure, and perhaps we shouldn’t be that surprised to find the young Broncos still finding their way. Still, Payton is long enough in the tooth to avoid falling into traps set by his adversaries, but not on Thursday night.

“I think we’re playing hard,” Payton said. “But we’ve got to be smarter. And we’ve got to be smarter as coaches as well.”

As far as the defense’s current woes go, the quick fix everybody is pointing toward is the Broncos getting their outstanding No. 2 cornerback Riley Moss back in the lineup. That scenario would be a massive boost, but Moss’ return from his knee injury still must be carefully managed.

In the meantime, Bonitto bouncing back after being shut out vs. the Chargers holds a massive key to getting that one last crucial win the Broncos require to punch their ticket back to the playoffs for the first time since 2015.

The Denver Broncos suffered a tough loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, and one player who was particularly disappointed with his performance was outside linebacker Nik Bonitto. Despite being shut out in the game, Bonitto is staying positive and focused on improving moving forward.

In a recent interview, Bonitto expressed his frustrations with his performance against the Chargers but emphasized the importance of staying positive and learning from his mistakes. “It was definitely a tough game for me personally, but I know I have to keep my head up and keep working hard,” Bonitto said. “I can’t dwell on one bad game. I have to learn from it and come back stronger next time.”

Bonitto is known for his speed and pass-rushing abilities, and he is determined to bounce back and make a bigger impact in the next game. “I know what I’m capable of, and I have to trust in my abilities and keep pushing myself to get better,” Bonitto said. “I’m not going to let one bad game define me. I’m going to use it as motivation to work even harder and come back stronger.”

Broncos fans are hopeful that Bonitto will bounce back and help the team secure a win in their next game. Despite the setback against the Chargers, Bonitto’s positive attitude and determination to improve are inspiring to his teammates and fans alike. Stay tuned to see how Bonitto and the Broncos respond in their next game.
